WHAT IS DUNGEON WORLD?
A small "playground" where you can spend your time creating villages, killing some monsters, and preparing your character for the final day.Inspired by games like Dungeon Stone Crawl Soup and Minecraft, Dungeon World combines simulation and minimalism in a classic dungeon-crawler where the dungeon is an entire world: with its changing biomes and emergent behaviors, but on a small scale and with simple interactions.

GAME CYCLE
Start in an unknown world that has its days numbered: get allies, find treasures, and prepare for the final day.Planning your adventure is essential because you will age and lose most of your progress upon death; to grow stronger throughout your lives, you will have to learn about the world and modify it to your needs (heirs, seasons, shortcuts, settlements, etc).
Thanks to procedural generation, each world is unique, creating small emergent adventures for each player, such as:
- Establish or defend settlements
- Find objects or retrieve them from your past lives
- Defeat hordes or major monsters
- Gain allies to accompany you
- Explore layers and unknown regions of the world

FEATURES
Dungeon World revolves around minimalist gameplay, moving away from similar games based on combat or statistics, and instead focusing on simple interactions, inventory management, and planning given the lifespan of your character (and the world). Some highlights include:- A simulated world with interactions between NPCs
- Turn-based and grid-based (movement, item usage, temporal cycles)
- +40 monsters and items
- +20 settlements and NPCs
- Create and save as many worlds (games) as you want
- Collection of creatures and stories
- Cheats to use in the late game

STORY
"When the being that shaped the world abandoned these lands, they began to wither... but thanks to a wise person who foresaw the disaster, there is now a chance for the god to return and renew its creation."The player controls an avatar that carries the essence of the creator and will have a limited time to learn about these lands and their myths, grow stronger throughout their lives, and ultimately confront the creator themselves if they wish to save this world.
The game does not focus on the story, but it does have "time" as its main theme in the form of messages and systems that the player must internalize to progress successfully in each game.

Bug Fixes
\n- \n
- Fixed an issue where playtime was displayed incorrectly.\n
- Fixed a bug where the procedural generation seed would disappear from the menu.\n
- Victory over post-game bosses is now correctly recorded (fixed an issue where the post-game cutscene would not trigger).\n
- Fixed a bug where special modifications to \"time lived\" (Elf ally, Final Day) did not function correctly after resuming a save.\n
- Fixed minor translation errors.\n
Merry Christmas to everyone! Thank you for the support during launch. I\'ll stay tuned to fix any of the weirder bugs that might pop up.
\n\n
This will be the last changelog for quite a while. While there might be patches for specific issues, all main content for Dungeon World is now complete.\n\n
What\'s New
\nGuest System
\nIf you manage to save a world, you can now invite heroes from other save files to live in your lands and help you restore them. This is done through the rainbow that appears after defeating the being that shaped the world; remember youll need magic feathers to bring them over and name them in your kingdom.\n\nOnce summoned, these heroes will offer unique deals based on their traits and the milestones they achieved in their respective worlds. Guests will also reflect the current state of their own games: allies, aging, or lost/deleted worlds.\n\nNew Libraries
\nThe beings, history, and seasons sections have been expanded with the latest additions, making a total of 30 libraries.\n\nSignboards
\nRandom signs will now appear in the world. These will have notes about nearby points of interest, though you can always rewrite them!\n\nTechnical Details
\nImproved Configuration
\nYou can now change the control scheme shown across all interfaces (keyboard, gamepad, or numpad), as well as adjust music and sound effects volume.\n\nThese preferences, along with your last hero selection in the Hub, are now saved between sessions.\n\nKnown and Fixed Bugs
\n- \n
- Fixed an issue that prevented correct interaction with shooting stars.\n
- A known issue is that, occasionally, the Big Picture mode virtual keyboard can disrupt player controls. It is recommended to enter text slowly; if it locks up, switch between windows to force an interface reset.\n
Final Version
\n\nThank you so much for supporting my first Steam game. As the sole developer of this project, Ive learned a lot throughout the process. I have many reflections on what went well and what didn\'t; while I am generally proud of the game, there are areas like promotion and technical polish that I will avoid handling alone in the future. Instead, Ill focus on what I did best with Dungeon World: world design, progression systems, and emergent behaviors.\n\nRegarding the future of Dungeon World, I plan to take a break, though I will stay alert for any necessary patches. I still have ideas for this little simulator (editing, online, game modes), but these are things I\'m simply interested in implementing and are not fundamental to the game\'s core design.\n\nThis marks the end of main development for Dungeon World. I hope you enjoy the world and its systems, and please overlook any small flaws due to my inexperience. See you in the next project!\n\n
At last, Dungeon World is in the final stretch.\nDungeon World\'s version 1.0 will be released on December 18th, only 2 weeks away!\n\n
The game and the demo have been updated
\n\n- \n
- New \"traits\" system based on stats when finishing a run.\n
- It is now possible to collect and recall all pixel art cinematics in the game.\n
- New animations when you interact or are attacked.\n
- New animations when you use certain items.\n
- New pixel art cinematic when you finish the post-game.\n
- The thief in your party now steals items 100% of the time.\n
- The dragon orb now summons more beings from the season.\n
- Small interface corrections.\n
- Steam achievements have been updated.\n
- \n
- 9 Hub libraries.\n
- Guests system (Rainbow).\n
- Technical improvements.\n

This is, without a doubt, the biggest update for Dungeon World: In addition to adding a Post-game, there are many changes to improve the pace of runs and make some systems more appealing. Even so, there is still content under development that will be available for version 1.0 in December.\n\n
\n\n
After the final day... (Post-game)
\nOnce you beat the final day, you\'ll surely be happy to have saved your world and can spend all the time you want rebuilding it... but there\'s still more to do!\n\nBosses
\nWhen the being that shaped the world is defeated, 2 new monsters emerge in the sky and the underground to try to take its place. They are very strong and will relentlessly pursue you as soon as you step into their territories. If you want a chance, be sure to go with allies and useful items. Although their behaviors are similar, each one grants a unique reward that will allow you to modify your appearance and the rules of your saved world.\n\nTrades
\nNow that the middle plane is no longer threatened, some creatures that were believed to be extinct have left their hiding places in search of a home. Search the seas to get an item that will allow you to attack at a distance, or explore the mountains to get a defensive item against distant enemies.\n\nChanges
\n\nCombat, Allies & Resources
\n- \n
- Adjusted the automatic enemies of towers, castles, and troops.\n
- Worms and Soul-Magic monsters now have 3 HP.\n
- Allies who ask for a potion now have 3 HP (merchant, dwarf, and elf).\n
- The fountains in the rainy season now rejuvenate more.\n

- The elf ally now extends your longevity.\n
- The merchant ally now also offers trades to dwarves and elves.\n
- The treant no longer offers a trade (this achievement was removed); it now shows your stats.\n
- More fairies, worms, and griffins now appear.\n
Interactions & System
\n- \n
- User interface improvements.\n
- 3 new playable characters were added.\n
- Family tombs now become sanctuaries when you collide with a fairy.\n
- The ruins of buildings no longer become abysses when you collide with a fairy.\n
- You can now always see elves (even if you are not a child).\n
- The shooting star now allows you to get ANY item you want.\n
- Minor changes to some descriptions, help menus, and libraries.\n
- Saved games now have a permanent and unique index.\n
- Stats now count deaths by bombs and the percentage of the map discovered.\n
- The \"berserk\" cheat was changed to \"external.\"\n
- The \"traveler\" cheat now makes you start with a map.\n
Bug Fixes
\n- \n
- The ghost did not disappear when you recovered your item.\n
- Completed runs were not being registered correctly.\n
- The new seasons (v0.5.1) could not be selected when starting a world.\n
- Scrolls were not being deducted when paying for cheats.\n
- The \"inventory full\" message was overlapping the \"reincarnate\" message.\n
- Un-interactable corpses appeared after completing a world.\n
- Incorrect sprite color for the dragon orb.\n
- Revision of the Japanese translation.\n
Roadmap
\nThere\'s just over 2 months left until the release of Dungeon World version 1.0! In this time, I will be implementing the final features of the game, but I will also be busy with \"extra material.\" The priorities are:\n\n- \n
- Final libraries (+9).\n
- \"Guests\" system.\n
- Some object animations.\n
- Improved tutorial.\n
- Improved configuration menu.\n
- Demo update.\n
- 1.0 launch trailer.\n
- Steam achievements review.\n
- \"Manual-style\" PDF (?).\n
Thank you for your interest in Dungeon World, and I hope you enjoy the additions in this new version!
\n
Update focused on polishing procedural generation and increasing variety (3 new seasons). Changes and improvements to presentation and balance (objects, effects, sprites, particles, etc.) are also included.\n\n
\n\n
New Additions!
\n\nSeasons
\nThere are 3 new seasons that modify the lands of Dungeon World and bring unseen creatures:\n- \n
- Tropical: Trees will appear in deserts and seas; stay away from jellyfish, they explode on minimum contact.\n
- Cloudy: The sea will fill with clouds in deep areas; chase frogs to travel easily between floors.\n
- Flowery: Mountains will give way to flowered trees; beware of carnivorous plants, they grow with each bite.\n
Seed for procedural generation
\nFrom now on, you\'ll be able to set a seed for the world generation of each game, allowing you to share and reproduce the terrain formation and initial NPC placement.\nNote: The seed is written below the minimap in the status menu; worlds prior to this version (0.5.1) do not have a record of the seed used.\n\nCheat: Terrain
\nA new cheat available for those who have completed the library: seasons will produce extreme changes, drastically transforming the landscape, to points where it can be difficult to navigate... For experienced players only!\n\nChanges and Corrections
\n- \n
- The pickaxe can now also create abysses.\n
- When you go to pick up an item with a full inventory, you will be informed what type of item it is.\n
- The fish from the rainy season were changed to springs; drinking from them will rejuvenate you a bit.\n
- You can now push temples with the leaf.\n
- Added Steam\'s virtual keyboard support when playing with a controller.\n
- The edges of the middle plane are now clouds.\n
- The functionality of particles was corrected so they no longer disappear abruptly.\n
- The dragon orb\'s sprite was changed.\n
Thank you for your interest in Dungeon World, and I hope you enjoy the additions in this new version!
\n
Almost a year into Early Access, Dungeon World already features a good variety of monsters and items... but adventures also need a story: finally, unlockable characters with micro-stories are here, offering a first approach to the lore after saving these withered lands.

New Stories
Wandering Spirits
Some spirits wander the lands of Dungeon World with a wish that still ties them to the mortal realm. If you manage to gather the items they request, their stories will inspire the avatar with a new appearance, allowing you to start new runs with different items and unseen animations. These spirits are uniquemeaning the items you give them will carry over if you meet them in other worlds, letting you preserve progress and unlock rewards across multiple runs.To change your appearance or check all collected spirits, head to the mirror located in the Hub.
After the Final Day...
If you overcome the apocalypse and defeat the being that shaped the world, you should seek out the prophetnow that his mission is complete, he can finally rest and offer you a valuable gift.Changes and Fixes
- New music theme plays near wandering spirits.
- Some new tips added in the player milestone menu.
- Signpost text now always appears on the minimap without needing to have a map in your inventory.
- The telescope now shows how many days have passed in a run.
- Fixed a bug that caused the credits scene to trigger multiple times at the end of a run.
Steam
- 5 new achievements added to the Steam profile.
- Cloud saves are now cross-platform (PC / Steam Deck).
Early Access
Dungeon World will receive its final version (1.0.0) by the end of 2025. I believe the game is quite complete and balancedI just want to add a bit more variety and polish some details before calling it done. The Steam Early Access FAQ has been updated on the store page.
Roadmap
I plan to release the final Dungeon World updates during the second half of 2025. There will be at least two more updates before the final 1.0.0, one of which will be like this one (v0.6.0), where I will revise the roadmap to clarify the current state of development.Upcoming content, ordered by priority:
- Seed management for procedural generation.
- More seasons (3).
- Post-game content, likely in the sky and underground.
- More unlockable characters (3).
- Filling in lore gaps.
- More cheats.
- Technical refinements.
As for online features, they will likely be dropped for version 1.0.0 due to a lack of a large enough community to justify the implementation. However, the design is well-developed, and I may revisit it in a future updateor adapt it into a lighter version without requiring a server.
Thanks for your interest in Dungeon WorldI hope you enjoy the new content in this update!

New Monsters
Thief
A weak creature that appears near shrines when you make deals with the Fairy Queen. It will steal your items from a safe distance and then run awaychase it down and kill it to get your items back!Nest
After the first year (or through a secret interaction), you will see monster nests in the middle plane: if you are within their range, they will order nearby monsters to attack you... and if there are none, they will spawn them! The monster that appears depends on the last important day (Soul, World, or Magic), and you can add it to your party if you bring an item it likes!New Group Members
Skeleton
An extremely resilient skeleton. However, since it is not alive, it cannot be healed in any way. Find it in a monster nest after the Soul Day.Slime
Thanks to its moist body, it grants the party immunity to fire and terrain damage (lava, swamp, etc.). Find it in a monster nest after the World Day.Thief
If you have this mischievous monster in your party, sometimes it will steal the item an enemy is carrying just by attacking them. Find it in a monster nest after the Magic Day.Quality of Life Changes
- Units that take damage now have a small animation and "throw into the air" a number to indicate how much damage they received.
- Old saves will no longer be locked and can be updated to include future version changes (mainly unique spawns at the beginning of the game and hero actions with certain units).
General Balance
- The bomb now destroys mountains and walls up to 4 tiles away (damage and fire still apply up to 2 tiles).
- Frozen season ice no longer breaks when stepped on, only when bombs are used.
- Skeletons now leave an empty corpse when they die.
- The attack range of the towers has been increased; it is now 3 spaces.
Bug Fixes
- When upgrading HP, hearts would stop displaying after 8 (visual issueyour actual HP was working correctly). This has now been fixed for the maximum number of hearts (12).
- The player could not attack magic spiders or magic wyrms. This has been fixed.
- Minor bugs that caused cutscenes and some menus to overlap have been fixed.
- Fixed a bug where your heir would gain more HP than you had.
- Fixed a bug where units would sometimes overlap and/or you couldn't interact with them.
Thank you for your interest in Dungeon World! I hope you enjoy the new additions in this version!
New Monster - Werewolf
A creature that appears during the nights of the mid-plane and spawns on the world-day near caves. It turns merchants into monsters like itself and leaps onto its prey to chase them. Luckily, its not very strong, but it can surprise the unwary or turn an entire community into nocturnal beasts.New Item - Cursed Fang
Part of a monster cursed by the creator, it still retains its essence and will grant strength to whoever consumes it, at the cost of some longevity. It is dropped by tornadoes, mimics, and werewolves.General Balance
- Sky tornadoes now deal damage when dragging you (less frequently) and can no longer be used to descend to the mid-plane, only to attack.
- Inhabitants of the outer layers (dwarves and elves) will no longer pay you gold for gems or feathers, now they will only buy cursed fangs.
- The flute now attracts more types of monsters.
- You can now retrieve the watch used to stop time, which resumes normal time but allows you to reuse the item.
- NPCs that had 1 HP now have 2.
Config Menu
Pressing ESC brings up a menu to manage game resolution, music, and sound effects, and shows the keyboard controls.NPC Portraits
A small visual addition alongside text boxes to give a bit of personality and differentiate when an NPC is talking.Library Changes
A third section has been added to the library, Seasons! It includes 7 new books with details on terrain changes, creatures, and tips for each season in Dungeon World. Two old books have also been updated to reorder new game information.Japanese Translation (v1)
Missing katakana characters have been added.Controller Support (v1)
There is now native controller support, but its not fully integrated with Steam Input (this will be improved in the future). For now, it works if you follow these steps in the given order:[olist]
[/olist]
If you disconnect your controller or close the game, you may need to repeat these steps.
Thank you for your interest in Dungeon World, and I hope you enjoy the additions in this new version!
- Japanese translation (v1: no kanjis, few texts were no translated due to graphic issues)
- Fix flute message (now show correct count of steps)
- Fix minor glitch in lategame
