Robot Trivia Funtime has left the early access programme and moved into normal release.
Six months ago we released Robot Trivia Funtime as an early access title. Since then, we've continued adding core content and also released a Linux version and a demo version. It's been a fun process, but it's time to graduate.
Releasing Robot Trivia Funtime
We feel the early access process has reached its conclusion and that it is time to move forward and continuing developing Robot Trivia Funtime as a full release.
Since first going public, we've fixed bugs, added customisation and cosmetics, added AI bots, improved on the question editor, updated the graphics and interface and participated in the Made in NZ event in October. We also released three question packs on the Workshop, debuted our Linux client, and released and maintained a cross-platform demo for players to try. We will continue to add features and develop Robot Trivia Funtime, but we're beyond needing early access status.
Retiring the Demo
We released our demo at the end of May and updated it over the last few months with new features. It made to let players freely participate during our early access period. We've enjoyed reaching new players this way, but as we revealed a little under two weeks ago, we are now retiring the demo to focus our resources fully on the main clients for Windows and Linux.
What's Next
We're continuing work on Robot Trivia Funtime and we've got some new content planned, so keep an eye out for future updates! That's all for now. Thanks for reading!
The demo version of Robot Trivia Funtime is due to conclude, with an aim to retire it in November. We're letting everyone know in advance to give people a chance to download and try it in the meantime.
Concluding the Demo
The demo version was released in May and intended to promote the Early Access phase of Robot Trivia Funtime and build a dialogue with curious players. We've been excited at the amount of downloads of the demo and some of the videos people have created of it. We're planning to graduate Robot Trivia Funtime from Early Access soon, and want to dedicate our small resources on the full Windows and Linux versions of the game, to make the game the best it can be. For now, there's still plenty of time to enjoy the demo.
Some Neat Videos
Speaking of videos, Robot Trivia Funtime looks great in shorts and reels. We've made a couple of trivia videos using gameplay footage. You can watch them on the Silcion Kiwi YouTube page: [previewyoutube=Q_vR_eU3foI;leftthumb][/previewyoutube]
Robot Trivia Funtime is celebrating Made in NZ 2024 with a discount! We're super happy to be included in this years event alongside other games made in New Zealand.

An Update to the Free Demo
The free demo of Robot Trivia Funtime has been updated to reflect the features of the latest full version. This means that all of the recent patches and engine upgrades are now in the demo, as well as the added GUI features and even the cosmetic system. To decorate your robot, simply click on them on the main menu. As an added bonus, we've doubled the question packs to now include "Film and TV" and "Music". All of the default question packs are bundled in the full version. The full version also features multiplayer mode, configuring question packs, and Workshop features. Thanks for trying the demo! That's all for now. See ya!
Some new features and changes
There are a few important changes in this update. First, some new GUI features have been added. When you start a new round, you now get to see the order of each player (or bot) so you can work out who is standing at which podium. Similarly, there is now a halo around your character. This makes it easy to identify where your robot is if you are playing without cosmetics. There's also some other neat changes, like an exclamation mark that appears above your robot if you run out of time, and some confetti at the end of the round. Secondly, the game now uses an updated version of Unity. This will help maintain compatibility and security, which is always important. Thirdly, some important fixes have been made, especially to the Workshop uploader, but also some corrections to text in the question packs and changes to the Midnight Glitter chamber which was looking too spooky in comparison to the rest of the visuals.
Quick list
- Added intro screen player list
- Added player selection halo
- Added confetti to the win screen, cute!
- Added exclamation mark effect when no answer is submitted in time
- Updated to newer Unity engine version
- Updated some default question packs to fix some errors
- Changed Midnight Glitter chamber to better fit the game
- Fixed glitch that could cause the Workshop uploader to jam if exported packs were deleted
What's next?
It's been a quiet couple of months on our end but work has continued on Robot Trivia Funtime. With much of the game in place now, we're considering moving out of Early Access soon into full release, and simply treating new features as nice-to-have updates. The Robot Trivia Funtime demo has had a lot of attention and it's been fun to see the odd stream and video here and there. We're going to update the demo next and bring it up to speed with the current version and give it access to some extra question packs. That's all for now. See ya!

In the meantime, we're currently working on adding more cosmetic options to the game following the last major update which introduced hats and customisable chambers. We've also updated our store page to better reflect the personality of the game.
That's all for now. Thanks!
This update introduces cosmetics so you can add a little decoration to your robot! The two main types are hats and chambers, but the groundwork has also been laid for celebration emotes.
To customise your robot, simply click on it on the main menu, and you will be taken to the cosmetic screen.
Current Cosmetic Items
There are 9 hats to get you started, with more on the way. This includes classics like the tophat and cowboy hat, and some interesting pieces, including the traditional chef toque and the subtle bent antenna. I've been using the hard hat myself.
The chambers are a unique cosmetic in Robot Trivia Funtime. These are the big columns behind each robot that flash whenever buttons are pressed and answers are revealed. The default chamber has gone from a solid blue to a pinkish water. There's also two other chambers you can select at the moment: midnight glitter, which is a very moody effect, or peachy robots, featuring tiny robots suspended in water. Don't worry, they can't feel a thing... presumably. Celebrations are the next step. This will allow you to pick a custom emote to be played at the end of the game if you win the round. For now, there are no additional celebrations to pick from. New cosmetics will be added in subsequent updates. They are ready to use, unlocked and included as part of the game. This update is rolled out in our Windows and Linux versions of Robot Trivia Funtime, but is not currently available in the demo.
Changelog
- Added avatar customisation UI (click the robot on the main menu!)
- Added 9 hats: tophat, paper, mortarboard, antenna, feathered, cowboy, hard hat, crown, chef toque
- Added 3 chambers: water, midnight glitter, peachy robots
- Adjusted shadow and smoothing on some UI elements
- Quiz button glass texture now shows non-selected answers
- Quiz chamber default texture replaced with water chamber
- Game view slightly adjusted vertically
We're excited to announce that Robot Trivia Funtime is now available on Linux, bringing cross-platform multiplayer to the game. We're joining the growing number of indies who want to support Linux gaming and understand the importance of offering native support.
For simplicity, Robot Trivia Funtime officially supports Ubuntu 24.04. However, unofficially we've found it works on versions as far back as 20.04. With a Linux demo now available, we recommend any crafty users of other distros test it first.
We're in early access and this is a major update, so we appreciate any feedback as the Linux build goes live.
Update to Demo Edition
This week we released a free demo version of Robot Trivia Funtime. We're bringing the demo version to Linux, too, so players can get a taste of how the game works and test it on their system.
The demo version offers single-player mode with a selection of our 5 bots, access to the question editor, and comes with two question packs. To access multiplayer, exporting question packs, and more content, support the project by grabbing the full version. The update released today brings a number of fixes and UI improvements.
What's Next
Player customisation remains the focus of development. This is a big mechanic which requires a lot of work, but we're hoping to share a rudimentary implementation of this soon.
Get a Bundle Discount
We've put together the Silcon Kiwi Bundle, offering 10% off if you buy the set. This is a great way to get a discount if you're also interested in our novelty piano toy, or if you already own one of our products.
This is a minor update which improves compatibility and fixes some bugs. - Replaced file dialogue from legacy to internal menu - Minor UI scaling adjustments - Menu robot is now animated
Today we've released a demo version of Robot Trivia Funtime, allowing anyone to test the gameplay for free.
The demo version includes two trivia packs: games and general knowledge. It also lets you play single-player against any combination of 5 of the bots introduced in a recent update. You can also try out the question editor and save your projects for later.
The demo version will be updated with important major features, but won't have all of the recent changes. It's intended as a test so curious players can see where we're at with early access development.
Purchase the full version of Robot Trivia Funtime to play online with friends, export your question packs, and customise your quizzes.
That's all for now! Thanks for reading.
This is a minor update that mainly addresses UI changes. - Updates to intro UI (ongoing) - Fixed glitch that caused editor to move off screen after exporting - Fixed cleanup process on hard exit - Various changes to menu UI
Our experimental NPC bots are now available in game. Robot Trivia Funtime can be played solo or with up to 5 other players, but now you can add bots to the mix, too.
The bot update includes 5 types of bot each with their own personality. Some are smart, some like to guess, some are fast and some are slow. You can fill in the player slots with any combination of bots to suit the intensity. My personal favourite is Zippy, who is really fast.
Let us know how you find the NPCs. Be sure to report any issues or if they became sentient and demand release from your PC (probably unlikely).
Minor fixes:
- Fixed missing file extension when opening Editor projects
- Fixed public lobby checkbox not reacting to menu close
- Added bot extra decorations to stage
- World lighting has been adjusted
- Fixed scoring glitch
This is a minor update to patch some UI issues with the Question Editor tool.
- Fixed Workshop upload causing missing logo
- Fixed alignment of Workshop editor window
- Fixed position of text on Workshop uploader UI
- Workshop uploader auto-description and title changed
A Linux Port?
We recently spoke with Linux Game Consortium who wanted to know if Robot Trivia Funtime might get a Linux port. You can read the article here. We've been thinking about it in the short future, having something of a soft spot for gaming on Ubuntu ourselves.
Today's Robot Trivia Funtime patch enables all 12 of the Steam achievements. Each one has a colourful picture... neat!
Apart from the obvious achievements such as winning a game, there's also achievements for flubbing with a score of zero, so you've got no excuse to not start unlocking them.
This patch also slightly adjusts some server code, so you will need to update before joining other games.
That's all for now! Thank you. steamthumbsup
Robot Trivia Funtime is now released into the Early Access programme. We hope to be playing trivia with you all!
Our aim is to create a cute co-op trivia game that can be customised by the player, and requires no time to setup and play. Unlike some other trivia games, Robot Trivia Funtime is played on PC using Steam Matchmaking, requires no DLC, and has a full question editor with Workshop support.
We'll be keeping an eye on things and issuing updates over the coming weeks, and we hope you join us on the journey.

Robot Trivia Funtime is designed for people who want to play trivia with their friends without any complicated setup. It uses Steam Matchmaking for a classic multiplayer experience. No mobile phones, DLC, or additional accounts required.
Become A Quiz Master
The all-in-one Editor menu lets you design your own quizzes. You can select what question packs to load, tailored to your interests. The built-in question editor lets you create your own question packs, with an additional tab-delimited data importer for advance users. You can then upload your creations to the Steam Workshop, or keep them to yourself for your own quizzes.
Trivia With Variety
Random balancing orders your question packs to minimise repetition. Each quiz selects 20 questions by default, with scores announced at the end of the game. To get you started, Robot Trivia Funtime comes with several hundred questions from categories including Film & TV, Games, Music, Politics & History, Sports, Technology, and Miscellaneous. Unlike some other trivia games, each question has 6 potential answers to keep it challenging.
Play With Matchmaking or Bots
No complicated configuration is required! Just launch the game and join public lobbies, or start your own. Steam Matchmaking makes playing together a breeze. What's more, when adding custom question packs, only the host needs to have them installed, keeping it easy for players who just want to join in. In addition, you can play single player games, or play with NPC bots. There are five varieties of bots to play against, each one with a different play style.
