We have worked on improvements for game controllers compatibility, mainly Xbox and PlayStation controllers. The game now correctly displays button labels based on the current game controller in use. Since the game's launch, we have continuously brought updates with improvements, new features, and platforms. In 2024, we added 2 new official platforms (Mac OS and Linux + Steam OS). We also introduced Steam Cloud to keep your game progress saved in the cloud and made some fixes and adjustments. Our goal is to continue supporting the game by adding more features, improvements, and fixes. We have put a lot of love and work into this project and want to see more players enjoying solving the puzzles while trying to reunite our heroes Ukko and Guar. You, an Apple Mac OS device user, can now enjoy the magical gaming experience of Ukko & Guar: Stellarbound on your favorite Mac. Help our heroes Ukko and Guar solve puzzles while enjoying the unparalleled experience of using a Mac OS. Soon, we will also bring compatibility for computers running the Linux system.

One year ago, on December of 2021, the creator team of Ukko & Guar: Stellarbound (Alice, Fernando, Karolina, Thas and Renan) was on Finland, in the city of Helsinki, for an incredible and immersive experience in the local scene of game development and entrepreneurship. As the winning team of the Good Game Brazil Game Jam, the five creators were rewarded with a trip of five days to Helsinki in a diplomatic mission for the Brazilian Embassy. Arriving at Helsinki, on -12 C (10.4 F), on a Monday night, the team went directly to the Embassy where they were welcomed by the Ambassador of Brazil Mr. Joo Luiz de Barros Pereira Pinto and his crew. The journey of the creators of Ukko & Guar: Stellarbound had just started.
On Tuesday the team could learn more about Helsinki, but specially, visit Metacore and Supercell. We had a very good welcome for lunch and chat with Metacores CEO and heads of projects, a moment of knowledge exchange and learning. In the evening, while the shine of the first ice flakes fell on the team, we visited Supercell, where a Brazilian welcomed us to talk about the company and to show us its amazing office.
The following days, Wednesday and Thursday, the focus of the diplomatic mission was to attend Slush, a big event for startups, entrepreneurs, CEOs and founders. At the event, the team could learn more about trending topics, good practices and stories of success. Slush also has some side events in which one of them was related to the game industry. We could learn a little more about blockchain games and other topics.
As Friday had arrived, the team had to prepare for its return to Brazil. Those were amazing days of so much learning in Helsinki. As indie game developers in Brazil, we would love to see more opportunities like that happening. Hundreds of game development teams are just waiting for this little push to make their game ideas a reality. We hope more and more developers have the opportunity to learn about game development around the world.

That is it! We have just launched the game on Steam. You can now buy Ukko & Guar: Stellarbound and enjoy this beautiful journey of two friendly creatures. First created during the Good Game Brazil Game Jam hosted by the Brazilian Embassy in Helsinki, the game had its development continued by Maqna Interactive team. For six months, part of the team was dedicated to polish, improve and add more content to the game. It was a very pleasant and enjoyfull process. We are now delivering the game to the public, so now everybody can experience the powerfull connection between Ukko and Guar. Two creatures, living very far from one another, connected by a magical power and colaborating together to solve the puzzles.

We are now entering the final sprint on the development of Ukko & Guar: Stellarbound. It is a dense, urgent, delicate, and stressful but a very important moment of the game development process. As we move level-to-level, reviewing, adjusting, balancing, improving and making things better for the player, we are also experiencing the first view of all those days working on the project and appreciating the fullness of it. Different people (artists and developers) were involved, and some, someway still involved, have dropped their bit of themselves in the game. For some, it will be the first game release on Steam; for others, it is the first game ever developed. Ukko & Guar: Stellarbound a result of love, creativity and a lot of work. Ukko is representing Finland in our game; it is a shy and gentile reindeer. The noble friends of Santa Claus live on Lapland, a region to the north of Finland. The reindeer is not the national animal of Finland but we choose it to be in the game due to its serenity and because people admire them in general. There are many different species of reindeer all through the countries near the Artic Polar Circle; those species vary in size, fur and behavior. The reindeer is also the symbol of Christmas. If you are looking for its scientific name, Rangifer tarandus fennicus is what you are looking for.
Image by Uusijani Alice Mattosinho is the artist responsible for the design and voices of the character; she shares with us her creative process for Ukko: it is a serene animal, a counterpart for Guar, who shares some of Brazilian habits. I was looking for an animal that could bring that idea of a calm creature. It reflected also on the voice directing for both characters. For the visual of Ukko, Alice told: it was so cool to research all the variations of reindeers fur and, with that; I could try different possibilities for the concept art. The national animal of Finland is the bear, so I decide to use it on the clothes of Ukko with the colors of Finlands flag, the white and the blue. To complete the visual, I choose to make Ukko hold a cup of coffee, because Finland has the highest index of coffee consumption per citizen in the world. It should be good drink for the cold temperatures".

Meet Guar, a manned-wolf from Brazil. His name is based on the Brazilian name for the species lobo-guar in Portuguese. Manned-wolfs are a very special animal from the Brazilian fauna, they are very rare to see and are typically found on the cerrado (a savanna like biome) regions of Brazil. Manned-wolfs are the biggest canids in South America and they are featured on the Brazilian ballot of R$200.00. We have chosen this incredible animal as the Brazilian character of the game. The mystical creature that resembles a cross between a gray wolf and a red fox was undoubtedly the best option for a character. Playful, very sociable, funny and who loves to make friends, Guar is like a IMP, moving a little away from the shy and lonely Chrysocyon brachyurus, the real world manned-wolf.
Image by Celso Ferrarezi Jr Maqnas Lead 2D Artist, Thas Ferreira, was in charge of the character design of Guar. She shares her process of creation of the character: the first thing that came to my mind was the fact that he needed to be cute, and somehow, despite the fact that he is an animal of the Brazilian fauna, he needed to have any element in correlation to the Brazilian people. I decided that he had to use a pair of slippers; I think there isnt any Brazilian soul that never used this kind of footwear in its life. This way, Guar is able to show, a least for me, the simplicity and sympathy that most of the Brazilians have, and of course, the joy of living.
