I've added the first handful of achievements. Soon enough, there will be others. Everybody have fun!
So you all know, I've taken a breather after launch, gathered some feedback, and decided to move ahead with implementing Steamworks features in Froojarspootz. The first one will be achievements. I have a number of them lined up, but do need to familiarize myself with how the interface works first. If you want to dive in early, you can subscribe to the `beta_test` branch. This will have new features as I begin to test them out. Once I'm sure it's working there, I'll move them to the public branch for everyone. However, you should know that `beta_test` is not at all guaranteed to be stable, and may even be unrunnable at times. It exists so it can take the hit early and protect the public branch. But, I don't know why you shouldn't be able to download it if you really want to.
We now have fifteen levels across five game worlds, including the bedroom, the yard, the swimming pool, the classroom, and the camp site. Dodge bears and janitors as you collect a wide variety of discarded junk in each level, and bring it back to its goal location. I've also introduced The Mess, an antithetical evil monster made of amassed uncleanliness, your ultimate opponent in the game. If you take too long, the mess will show up and actively chase you around. You can't hide from it, so work fast. I'm admittedly still getting used to uploading and publishing to Steam, so there may be a minor number of hiccups; but after a little more cut scene art and a few minor adjustments, we will be going live!
It's hard to think of something more iconic, of the importance of keeping a clean room (slash house, slash work space, slash life), than a camp site. We always try to leave them cleaner than we found them, after all. Camp grounds will have a unique opponent as wellwildlife. Cute as the raccoons may be, they can see Froojarspootz quite well, and must be avoided! Grab sun block, cooking pots, back packs and more while dodging them. You know what this means, of course. Once this is done, I'll just have a handful of items left on my checklist before a formal release. I'll likely spend some time polishing it afterward, removing unnecessary code and organizing my scenes in a more maintainable way. My plan is to give you something not only playable and enjoyable beginning to end, but something expandable down the road; and that takes a healthy amount of foresight and experience. I'm not silly enough to talk about a hypothetical here, not explicitly; but there are a few of them which may come to fruition before release and will increase play-ability quite a bit. One thing at a time, though. Once the foundation is in place, I'll start working on adding Steam-specific features like achievements and collectable cards. That's just a given, really. As another player, there's a reason these things are so popularthey're fun in themselves. Keep watching for future updates!
We aim to keep the same steady funk to the music, but used a banjo for the swimming pool and got a bit dryer and cleaner with the background music for the backyard. It's really good. I feel like the game is moving fast, but we're not going to release anything that doesn't match the vision, and it's been a long and adventurous season making it! Next up are a number of hand animations, and at least two more game worlds including a classroom. Some of the art is already done for the classroom. Expect more tweaks to come before the big release, but everything's going beautifully smoothly right now! We'll talk to you soon. Thanks to everyone who has wish-listed the product!
The back yard has a significant amount of original art to it, and shows up starting in the fourth room. Toys go in a big tent instead of under the bed. The lawn mower has some original behavior, like actually mowing the tall grass; and the boundary is a fence instead of a wall. I've made some major adjustments on furnishings and barriers, too, so we may get some lawn chairs and other yard paraphernalia in there too. It took pretty much my whole day yesterday, but I'm happy to do it. [previewyoutube=2Zx11yQXC5o;full][/previewyoutube]
