Were excited to announce that Final Outpost: Definitive Edition is now officially verified on Steam Deck!
The game has native support for the Decks resolution, button glyphs, gamepad controls and runs at a buttery smooth framerate.

Trading Cards


FO:DE now has trading cards! Collect the 10 cards for each job type in the game, and craft 5 badges to unlock wallpapers and chat emoticons. Theres also a special foil badge to unlock.

Weve also just released an update to make some necessary changes to easy mode in the game. There are now more deer in the forests and zombies have less health so that this difficulty mode is a more relaxed experience.

Steam Deck Support


The game has full controller support and we are planning to have the game verified on the Steam Deck. Our testing indicates that the game runs 'buttery smooth' on Deck. One tester even went as far as to say that the game is a 'perfect Deck title'.

Deep Dive: Modifiers, Music & More

How do modifiers impact gameplay?


With 38 modifiers and a thousand possible combinations, each Outpost presents unique challenges. To give you a little taster, here are some examples:
  • Barbed Boundaries - your walls constantly damage zombies
  • Repopulation Doctrine - citizens contribute to the birth rate at all times
  • One Shot, One Kill - snipers do double damage

There are also some negative modifiers we are excited to see you play! For example:
  • Long-term Contracts - no unassigning allowed, except for horde nights
  • Long Lunchbreak - building construction and upgrades can only take place at night
  • Focused Onslaught - on blood moon nights ALL zombies go to either the left wall or the right wall

How do Difficulty Modes work?


Difficulty modes have always been a popular suggestion since Final Outpost began and we are happy to be finally introducing them with Final Outpost Definitive Edition.
Easy and Normal feature a new checkpoint system allowing players to save their progress throughout their survival journey.
  • Easy Mode involves a smoother start with the larger deer populations of Busy Forests and Beginning of the End attracting more survivors to your Outpost's gates
  • Normal and Classic Mode offer a balanced experience with Classic keeping the original mechanics where losing means starting over completely
  • Hardcore Mode ramps up the difficulty with Quieter Forests reducing deer reserves and Tougher Zombies increasing enemy health by 10%
Each difficulty mode has its own set of leaderboards and stamps can be collected as you play through each mode.

Introducing our first OST


Composer Ben Randall has created a brand new soundtrack for the game, featuring main menu and cutscene music, four in-game ambient tracks and dynamic combat music that reacts to the threat level on your walls.
Alongside a range of new sound effects, the new original soundtrack makes it that much easier to get totally immersed in Final Outpost.

Increased Game Speed Controls


We've also included a new 10x fast-foward option for players who want to speedrun their Outpost. This doesn't come without risk, though! It's all too easy to miss a group of survivors or forget to assign your knife fighters...

Deep Dive: Meta-Progression

Progression has always been a part of Final Outpost but now, for the first time, you can settle more than one Outpost and test your survival skills with collectible gameplay modifiers. So, how do you reach new Outposts?
There is now a rusty motorhome amongst the rubble in your Outpost. The motorhome contains a procedurally generated map, which lets you plan your route and decide where to settle next.
Once you've repaired the motorhome with parts obtained from the trader, you can move to a new location! So what happens next? This is where modifiers come in.
In Final Outpost: Definitive Edition, there are 38 modifiers that change everything from seasons and weather to worker efficiency and zombie horde behaviour. Each location on the map is associated with a negative modifier, sometimes easier, sometimes incredibly challenging, so route planning is crucial to avoid areas with stamps that you don't like!
After selecting your destination, you pick from a selection of positive modifiers to optimise the situation you find yourself in. A great positive stamp can help you to complete an Outpost with even the toughest negative modifier.
With 1000 possible Outpost modifier combinations, this system brings a new level of replayability to the game. Choose whether to survive as long as possible in a single Outpost or to traverse the map to get a higher prestige level. We've also introduced the Stamp Book, allowing you to collect the stamps you found along your survival journey.
Every time you leave an Outpost the modifier stamps tied to that Outpost will be added to the Stamp Book, a fun way to document your progress and showcase your accomplishments - with an achievement for 100% completion! Finally, we added 10 new achievements and leaderboards that track this new progress. Leaderboards will be tied to difficulty modes, which we'll cover in our next deep dive.

Deep Dive: Trading System

Survival in Final Outpost: Definitive Edition is not just about gathering supplies, it is about making smart trades. With the introduction of the trader, there is a new way to secure resources and expand faster. Here's our video on the new feature: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWr-2jiA7wY
Need 150 stone for an upgrade? Instead of assigning miners, you can trade for it instantly. Facing a food shortage? The trader might have wheat to save your citizens on the brink of famine.
Do you spend gold now to help your citizens in the short term or hold onto it for future trades? Do you gamble on a big upgrade or slowly stockpile for stability? The trader makes possible entirely new strategies for Outpost growth. However, trading is not available straight away. You will need to build a Radio Tower to attract traders to your Outpost. After parting with 50 scrap, you'll start attracting traders every few days.
An extra bonus of the Radio Tower is that it acts as a rod to absorb some lightning strikes, protecting other buildings in your Outpost. Level 1 and 2 take 15% and 50% of all strikes, respectively. Your Outpost will be better protected for the rest of the game since the Radio Tower cannot catch fire.
The level 2 Radio Tower unlocks a new type of trader who offers more valuable deals as well as rare vehicle parts that can be used to repair the decaying Motorhome inside your Outpost. The Motorhome is the hub for the new meta-progression system in Final Outpost: Definitive Edition, with which you'll be able to drive off into the sunset (or sunrise).

A New Main Menu?

Dear players, The demo for Final Outpost: Definitive Edition is out now! This is the first time that a bunch of new features will be playable so we hope you get stuck in and enjoy it. So let's go through what's new.

What's new in the demo?



Traders



Traders stop by your Outpost every 3 days with a range of trade offers. Gold has been added to the same as a currency to enable the exchange of resources.
One might even save your citizens from the brink of starvation!

Difficulty Modes



The demo includes the Normal and Classic difficulties, each with their own leaderboards. Classic is slightly more difficult as you cannot rewind to an earlier save when your Outpost is destroyed.
Normal mode has a new manually editable save panel which allows you to rewind time and try out new strategies.

Environment + UI Changes



We've improved the forest and rubble images, added dirt and grass tufts around the map, brought the colour palette together, and cleaned up season transitions for a more cohesive visual look. The UI has also been updated for PC with a new control panel that includes a 7.5x speed toggle.

New Scoring System


In the demo you can play until the beginning of the first Winter. But there's a twist: we've added a new scoring system that allows you to compete with your friends to build the best Outpost before time runs out!

Changes


  • Added a score summary to the game over screen
  • Rebalanced trade offers
  • Trader now turns up every 3 days (from 2)
  • Added a warning indicator for when walls have zombies damaging them and no knife fighters are assigned to them
  • Added an indicator for when survivors arrive at the gates
  • Added a badge to the job menu tab that shows when there are unassigned citizens
  • Added a badge to skill menu tab that shows when there are unspent skill points
  • Added a cross icon to birth progress text when population capacity is reached or there is no food
  • Shortened the skill point gain animation to 2s (from 3s) and made it independent of current game speed
  • Material values in building upgrade menus now displays in red when there is not enough of the corresponding resource available
  • Moved the pickaxe down by two rows in the crafting menu
  • Knife fighters now prioritise the left wall

New Leaderboards and Scoring System!

Today we are excited to introduce in-game leaderboards to Final Outpost: Definitive Edition alongside a new scoring system. This is a great time to talk about the demo for FO:DE. The demo will include all the improvements we've been working on for the last few months and tease new features like difficulty modes and the all-new trading system. You'll be able to play all the way up to the first Winter, which is over 2 hours of gameplay!
The best part? The demo has a new scoring system that shows how well you performed throughout your game. So the demo will have its own competition to see who is the best Outpost manager in the first 36 days. This competition won't be in the full release so make sure to play the demo on Steam when it releases on 13th December!
The new scores are calculated based on days survived, total population, and deaths. This means the players topping this leaderboard will be those who can grow their population the fastest without having any of their citizens starve.
Normal and Classic modes are available in the demo. In terms of difficulty these two modes are identical, but in Normal mode you can save your progress whenever you like. If your walls are breached you can rewind to a previous night and try a new strategy.
In the full game, you will be able to compete against others for overall score, number of days survived, biggest population reached, and prestige level. We will explain prestiging in a future blog post. In the meantime, thank you so much for reading. What does this new building do?

Dear players, Today we are talking about a new building coming to Final Outpost: Definitive Edition.

The Radio Tower



From base level 6, you can build the radio tower. This unlocks a new trading slot for your exchanges with the Trader, allowing you to trade more of what you want.

From base level 9, you can upgrade the radio tower. Long-range broadcast technology attracts a new type of trader to your Outpost. This trader sometimes sells special parts. These will become important as you grow your Outpost. Upgrading the radio tower to level 2 attracts the level 2 trader
Lightning strikes are conducted by the radio tower, protecting your buildings from burning down during storms.

Introducing the Trader

Dear players, We have some exciting news on the development of Final Outpost: Definitive Edition. The first major addition to the game is here. Introducing the Trader!
The Trader will regularly come to your Outpost offering up a variety of trades. In order to buy resources, you will need to sell something to obtain a new resource: electronic scrap!
With electronic scrap, you can buy and sell everything from wood to machine gun bullets. Because Traders change the types of trades they offer as you build up your Outpost, you'll need to save up different resources to make sure you always have something to sell.
The trader could save you next time your citizens are starving! In other news, we have been working on a new checkpoint saving system:

Devlog #2: Steam Launch, Controller Support & gamescom

Dear players, That was a... weird? month. First off, thank you so much for all your support around the launch of Final Outpost: Definitive Edition. In our first month on Steam, nearly 1000 of you added the game to your wishlists! That is an incredible result for our first game on Steam and this makes us even more excited to bring you the full game. We also released a major UI overhaul as part of the 1.6 update and you all seem to really like the new look. We've had so many messages, comments and discussion on Discord so it really feels like we have a strong foundation on which to build FO:DE. Work on patches for 1.6, holidays for the devs, and the Steam page launch basically took us to the middle of August, with gamescom fast approaching. Although we didn't have a booth of our own this year, gamescom was such a great experience. We had the chance to meet some of our favourite developers and gaming journalists and try out upcoming games! We of course made sure to tell as many people as possible about the upcoming release of FO:DE.
All this meant that we didn't have a whole lot of time to work on Definitive Edition features but, fear not, we have been working on something very important to the game's PC playability: controller support! We are happy to announce that Final Outpost: Definitive Edition will have full controller support. As the game is now fully playable with keyboard and mouse, we decided to start developing a system for players to experience our RTS world from a controller while having full and responsive control of the UI. Here is a sneak-peek:
Building on these foundations, we are planning to have the game verified on Steam Deck. We have also implemented a range of important PC features, such as Steam achievements, cloud save and, of course, the early stages of resolution settings:
We are working on support for ultra-wide monitors. So far we can confirm the game will run as normal without any stretching on these monitors. However full ultra-wide support, including removal of black bars, is not yet confirmed - full details will be updated in our FAQ. Please add FO:DE to your wishlist. Final Outpost is Coming Soon on Steam!

Thats right, its a Definitive Edition. That means well be taking the original popular mobile strategy game to a new level with more features, content, and replayability as we wrap up our creative journey into a complete premium game without microtransactions. The game will be available in 16 languages across 5 platforms (PC, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS). New features we know will be in the Definitive Edition:
