Thank you for the support of the release of Toward Dawn! I really hope you are enjoying it. Change log:
The full game of Toward Dawn is now available! Thank you for all the support. This game has been a passion of mine for the last 14 months, and it means so much as a solo dev to hear all the feedback so far. I hope that you enjoy the full story. Steam Deck should be fully supported, so if you play on that, please do let me know how it goes! Feel free to report any bugs you find and I will do my best to fix them as soon as possible. Diolch, Devi Serene
With the full release of Toward Dawn tomorrow, the demo has now been updated. This demo contains all the polished content for the main release. Saves from this demo can be carried forward to the full game. Fixed bug in trader UI where items would not properly sort after trading Fixed bug in trader UI where certain actions could result in no item being focused. Added new hotkeys for keyboard to enter the Inventory (I), Loadout (L) and AbilityTree (K). NPCs now have interaction icons WASD now work in battle and menus Added input prompts to the party menu tabs Battle: Fixed a bug where the focused ability for Carys' Incantation could not set properly when first opening the menu. Fixed a bug where Incantation of Regrowth passive would revive all party members on Carys' turn instead of just heal. Added sound effect for level up. Updated icons for the enemy intentions. The intentions now show the element or if they are doing a status move. Fixed a bug where the enemy intention portrait could be misaligned. Updated the combat UI, showing a unique variant for each character. Fixed various bugs associated with removal of status effects. Added options to the Battle screens. Updated all status effect icons. Status effect icons are easier to see in battle. During a unit's turn, they appear in the left hand side "Unit Data" book, allowing easier access to see what their current status effects are. Updated scroll bar for status effects in the Unit Data book. If the Unit Data book or Player Portrait has too many status effects to show, it will now gradually scroll across them. You can now select the Incantations/Empower buttons with the mouse. Balance: Lowered Ceiliog Neidr health and poise Flux Echo now is random target, but has an upgrade to make it single target. EarthStrike incantation is now quicker to cast. Arc Cutter now chains between enemies, the incantation now targets all enemies. Increased the Health/Poise of enemies in Hard mode. Carys' Sanctify incantation no longer applies a status effect, instead restoring 50% of the Health damage dealt to herself. Additional Health/Poise Potency from equipment or passives now only give 50% effect for AOE abilities. (boosting this became way too strong) Removed Incantation of Dusk as a basic ability - now it is a weapon ability. Removed Cover ability upgrade tree (Bleddyn still has access to this ability by default). Added new Base Stats upgrade tree for all characters - Choose between Health/Poise/Potencies/etc to upgrade. This allows you to change how a character plays easier. Idwal's ability tree unlocks now cost appropriate AP. Sheltering Veil will now reduce damage taken from a particular element by 80% for one hit. Other: Added a tutorial for the skits. (If you view the first skit before you reach this trigger, the tutorial will not appear) When using a controller, the mouse cursor will be hidden (if returning to mouse/keyboard, it will show again) Opening the Steam Overlay will now pause the gameplay / battles / dialogue scenes. Added support for save transfer from demo to main game (sadly the Next Fest demo version is incompatible) Added Demo End screen that allows save for transfer, return to menu and quitting. Added new texture variants for the various abilities in the trees. Fixed a bug with autosaves that could potentially put you in 0,0 position on load Added default music and sound effect volume settings - starting at 35% instead of 100%. Added option to return to the Frontend in the Menu. Fixed a bug where ability tooltips could remain on the menu. Fixed a bug in the Incanter's Song minigame causing misses to occur at the opposite end of the tracker. Audio changes to allow more sound effects to play at the same time, and have the same sound effect to be able to be played multiple times during its playtime.
Shwmae friends! Thank you so much for the lovely feedback on the Next Fest demo, I hope that you are looking forward to the full release! I am extremely grateful for you support and reviews - this is my first game and it is entirely solo-developed and self funded - and to have people play the game, enjoy the story and embrace the Welsh myths and references has been very humbling. This small update should address some of the more common concerns that were brought up.
Steam Next Fest is here, and so is the major demo update. Here is a brief rundown of the updates:
Battle Updates
Experience a new perspective in battle! Carys and Bleddyn as well as all enemies, backgrounds, and animations have been updated. This was more in line with my original intentions for the game, and I hope that you enjoy the battles more so with how they look and feel!
In addition to looks, some mechanics have also changed.
Carys now has access to Incantations. This allows her to combine two of her spells into a new ability, expanding her versatility greatly. This includes the abilities she can gain via equipment, so experiment to find your favourite combination!
Bleddyn can consume all of his Mana to Empower his next ability. This increases the damage or effects (such as making it go from single to multi target), and the more mana consumed, the stronger the result.
While the first chapters only feature 2 of the 3 permanent party members, you can still find some guest characters who join for a battle or two!
All of the UI has been updated. This includes updates to item icons and most ability icons. Hopefully you will agree it is not only a more stylish update but also nicer to use! The game is fully compatible with controllers (my preferred way to play games), or keyboard. I need to add an input prompt, but you can change tabs by using RB/LB or Q/E, so you don't need to use the mouse.
Portraits for Carys, Bleddyn and Idwal have all been updated. As have almost all the lines of dialogue from the previous demo - Bleddyn is not quite so Australian anymore (there are still a few 'mates' left in there though)!
I have already received some fantastic feedback from this demo, I'll do my best to add what I can to the full game. Creating Toward Dawn has been a labour of love for the past year and I am grateful to everyone who plays this solo-developed game!
Hwyl fawr!
Thank you for your interest in Toward Dawn! In the lead up to the Next Fest demo, here is a trailer for Bleddyn, our favourite Welsh Wolf! [previewyoutube=1FYOCNgKfv4;full][/previewyoutube] I hope you enjoy his new voice, as well as the updated graphics and battle system in the demo! - Devi Serene
