Artificial Nexus Devlog - May 2025

Welcome back to the latest in my monthly devlogs, or hello and greetings if youre here for the first time! As always, Ill be discussing what Too Many Teeth Studios has been up to in the last month, and whats coming up next (which means that the May devlog is covering the activity of April - yes, I know that its a bit unintuitive). The big news, which Im assuming that youve already heard of (how are you here if not?) is that our second game, Artificial Nexus released on April 17th! The release has been a success so far (minus a terrifying issue discovered and fixed a few days before launch - dont accidentally upload your saves folder to Steam, kids), with positive reviews and feedback overall. Other than the game releasing, the majority of work done in April has been, unsurprisingly, bug fixes and post-release changes. As you can see from the list below, the actual changes have been for relatively minor things; its been pretty smooth sailing overall:

  • Fixed up a typo in an early scene
  • Fixed up some sprites that didnt match the side portrait
  • Fixed up an issue where some streamers couldnt load their games after downloading an update
  • Added in an image of Hank to the Move map
  • Added in functionality for deleting personal notes
  • Updated the Codeword minigame to remove some ambiguity around repeated letters
  • Updated preferences to allow for muting music/effects/voice individually
So, with a game released after a year and a half of development, whats the next step? There are a few more minor issues with the game that Ive still investigating and intend to fix, but none of it is anything too major at this point. More notably, this Saturday Ill be appearing on Checkpoint Gamings radio show to talk about visual novel development, so if that sounds like your cup of tea and you live in the right area, check it out! Other than that, whats next for Too Many Teeth? Stick around and find out ;) Finally, if youve already bought the game (thank you!) and get stuck on a puzzle, find a bug, or simply want to discuss the plot and characters with people, feel free to join our friendly Discord. If not then hey, thanks for reading anyway.

“Where...am I? And...who am I?”

Those are the words that Susan asks herself when she’s woken up in a strange, high-tech coffin-like device in an otherwise empty room. Beyond her name she has no memory of her past. A voice over the intercom, Hank, tells her that she’s in a facility owned by a tech company, but she’s never heard of it.

Susan must leave the building to find out who she is, but things get more complicated when she discovers that the facility is under attack. She will have to use all of her wits and luck to get out of the building, but even if she can do that, will she uncover the mysteries of her past?

------

Artificial Nexus is a sci-fi mystery investigation game, which plays as a visual novel/point-and-click hybrid. In order to escape from the building and learn about Susan's past, you'll need to move around to multiple locations, find hidden codes, race against time, and control computers, all while avoiding the enemies who have attacked the building. If you're cunning enough you may even be able to discover some of the secret unlockables...

Some of the features of the game include:
  • More than just dialogue trees - Artificial Nexus places you in a location where you can control what you do and where. The rate you progress is controlled by you, and you have a wide array of options available to you in each room.
  • Voice acting - all important story scenes are fully voice acted by the talented Bree Frankel and Shaun Mendum.
  • An engaging and thrilling mystery - who is Susan, and how did she get into the building? Who is the perpetrator of the attack? Is any of this really happening?
  • Clever puzzles to solve - you'll need to rely on your own brain to get through everything - good luck!
  • Full length story - nearly 80,000 words of content in the story!
  • Content to keep you returning - an unlockable gallery of artwork and achievements will keep you playing through the game to find every last secret.
  • Beautiful anime-style artwork from our artist, misokatsuhaumai.
  • Multiple endings - what state will Susan be in by the time you've finished the story?
