The evil aliens have arrived to the Solar System and are about to destroy all humans. Your main task is to destroy the evil alien mothership.
Silver Waffle is a shoot'em'up with spaceships and evil aliens with some RPG elements and first person activities, taking place in the Solar System. A mixture of game modes include flying in planet levels viewed from side, flying in space levels viewed from angle (top/behind), and walking inside buildings viewed from first-person.
There are 20 planet/moon levels with spaceports and other buildings that can be landed on, and some of the buildings can be entered in first-person gamemode. In some of the buildings you will come across NPC's, some of them may be helpful or give you optional missions. You can also find items and spaceships of varying configuration within the spaceports. Evil alien spaceships will be lurking in the planet levels, and in some of the building levels you will encounter the evil aliens in person.
Travelling between planets and moons is done via temporary space levels. In these space levels you will encounter waves of evil alien spaceships until you reach the destination. The amount of evil aliens present in the space levels are tracked; the more you destroy them the less there will be next time. The previous planet/moon levels can always be returned back to. Travelling is limited; you can only travel to the neighbor planets and moons, for example from Earth you can travel to Venus, Moon, or Mars. There is no "fast travel" available, but you will be able to discover utilities to speed up the process.
The flying model of the spaceships is simple, arcade style, and while there is varying gravity (depending on planet) its effect to the spaceship can be nullified with one module. The anti-gravity module is immediately available when playing with the easy difficulty mode. Spaceships can be upgraded with modules of different types including weapons, defense systems, and other utilities. Each module has characteristics such as weight and power usage.
Research can be conducted to unlock new types of modules and other usable items. Your player character can be levelled up with points distributed over skills. Resources are collected to advance the game, rebuild infrastructure, and manufacture new spaceships, modules, and items. Transporting the resources requires you to manage your limited inventory space.
You can choose from three difficulty settings when you start a new game. Depending on your choices during the playthrough, there may be an option to restart with increased difficulty.
