Demo Patches #3 and #4 - Medal Cap Increase, Optimizations, Strafing Run Buff

Patches #3 and #4 have been released for the Rogue Battalion Demo. These are mostly some optimizations for the game's CPU demand but have some other changes that have been requested. First, the medal cap has been increased from 500 to 2000. This allows players to activate all of the upgrades in the demo's progression menu at once. Second, the strafing run now does damage in a small area on bullet impact so it's possible to hit infantry with it. It's still difficult to hit them, but possible.

Rogue Battalion Demo Patch #2

Patch #2 for the Rogue Battalion Demo is out now with some balance changes. TLDR: After looking through the metrics, we noticed that over 75% of losses happened within the first 4 waves which seemed a little extreme. We adjusted some things to make the difficulty start a little more fair to the player but then ramp back up to where it was by the end of the demo. Hard difficulty has not been touched. Balance Changes:

  • Assault troops were underperforming. Most of the time, starting with an assault troop card meant losing in the first 2 waves. The assault troop card has been buffed a bit to provide 5 assault troops instead of 1 riflemen and 3 assault troops.
  • Assault troops were not surviving their approach long enough to actually matter. Their health has been increased by 10%. This doesn't seem like much but actually makes them hit a significant breakpoint so that enemy snipers can't 1-shot them anymore.
  • Regular infantry are no longer completely useless against tanks (just mostly useless). Larger caliber infantry weapons (riflemen, fire support troops, snipers) can now do at least a small amount of damage to armored units. They're still not effective against them but it's not a guaranteed loss anymore if an enemy tank shows up and the RNG has denied you anti tank weapons up to that point. It's still in your best interest to get the card and escalation upgrades to make sure you have a way to deal with enemy armor.
  • Tank-based machine guns are a little more accurate now to keep the balance between them and swarms of riflemen.
  • The final wave is now guaranteed to have at least some enemy tanks so be ready.
Visual Changes:
  • The ability bar on the HUD has a slightly new appearance.
Known Issues:
  • Mountains in the first level block aircraft shots. This is actually intentional but it's not exactly clear players need to use the directional control function of the air strike abilities to work around obstacles so we may end up changing this for the first level and making it a challenge for a later level in the full game instead.
  • Optimization is still a work in progress. The next update will likely be an optimization one.

Rogue Battalion Demo Patch #1

Patch #1 for the Rogue Battalion Demo is out now with some small changes and bug fixes. Here are the notes: Balance Changes:

  • Strafing run cooldown has been decreased from 25 seconds to 20 seconds. The main benefit of the strafing run is that it should be usable very frequently as opposed to the other air support abilities.
Fixes:
  • Strafing Runs now use the proper audio channels. Before, they were stuck on the main audio loop and their 6 machine guns quickly filled up the list of audio sources.
  • Grenade explosions are now working again. They were not assigned to an audio channel and were throwing a null reference exception preventing the rest of their explosion code from executing. This has been fixed so assault troop grenades are once again useful.
  • Touchscreen functionality has been fixed a bit for the steam deck. There was an issue where using an ability with the touch screen would cause the ability to go where the targeting reticle used to be instead of where you tap on the screen. This has been fixed.

Rogue Battalion - Air Power

Attention, Commanders!


The Rogue Battalion closed beta has been running smoothly for the past week, and weve been hard at work squashing bugs, optimizing gameplay, and perfecting the commander abilities for the upcoming public demo next month. Todays update is a quick look at the commander abilities, complete with a new video highlighting the Air Support Commanders powers. In the announce trailer, we revealed the Air Support Commanders Strafing Run and Rocket Strike, alongside the Artillery Commanders Mortar and Howitzer barrages. Since then, weve added even more destructive options: Paradrop: Deploy reinforcements directly into the fray. Bombing Run: Unleash devastation from above. White Phosphorous Barrage: Disrupt enemy lines with chaos and fire. Incendiary Barrage: Leave a fiery path of destruction.

Behind the Scenes: Sound Design Overhaul & Demo Prep

Hey, Commanders!


Since the release of the Rogue Battalion trailer, we've been hard at work making the game even more immersive, focusing heavily on sound effects. Sound design might seem straightforward, but creating realistic and dynamic audio has been a fascinating challengeand were making huge progress!

Heres What Weve Done:


  • Overhauled Weapon Sounds: A rifle firing sounds great on its own, but when multiple rifles fire together, the sound can become chaotic. To solve this, weve implemented a system that layers multiple sound effects for each weapon. This system randomizes and adjusts the sounds based on firing conditions and distance, ensuring a more authentic experience.
  • UI Sound Effects: The clicks, hovers, and notifications are now polished and cohesive, adding to the games tactical atmosphere.
  • Progress So Far:
    • All infantry weapon sounds revamped with the new system.
    • Two-thirds of vehicles and mounted weapons are completed.
    • The UI sound effects overhaul is finished.

  • Polishing animations for fluid visuals.
