WARM MONKEY is an animal fable that tells a story of urban exploration, the search for water, and the importance of cooperation.
You are a monkey in the heart of a garden city. Every ten seconds, a new companion appears by your side. As your group grows, guide your fellow monkeys on a journey to reach the sea, located to the south of the city.
Life and death of a monkey
- On your journey, vigilance is essential. Your monkeys may succumb to dehydration, fall from buildings or trees, or be struck by a scooter on the city’s roads. If the lead monkey dies, the nearest companion will take its place (if any remain). The game ends if all your monkeys perish before reaching the sea.
Water, your vital resource
- Keep an eye on your life bar, as it reflects your level of dehydration. If a monkey turns red, it's a warning that you need to quickly locate a water source to rehydrate him. The city is dotted with small puddles and, occasionally, larger pools—so stay vigilant! Multiplying your group improves your chances of survival but also increases your water requirements. Rehydrating a group of ten monkeys requires larger water sources, which become progressively harder to find.
Explore, embrace the taste for risk
- You move freely through a labyrinthine open world, where you can climb trees and buildings, jump from one to another, travel from puddles to pools, and from the ground to rooftops. There’s no predefined path—only your intuition and experience matter. But beware of falls and passing vehicles on the road. If you fall from a tree or building, some of your companions may follow the same path...
Companions can be unpredictable
- The members of your group follow you, but not exactly. The artificial intelligence intentionally adds an organic element to their behavior. They may fall from the buildings and trees you climb, rush in a group of twenty to the small puddle of water you've just discovered, or wander too close to the road. As the guide, it’s up to you to anticipate these unpredictable actions and protect your group.
Multiplayer mode: A matter of coordination.
- At any time, multiple players can join the game, turning it into a cooperative experience. If players stray too far from one another, the screen stays centered on the group. Therefore, you must communicate to progress more efficiently, balancing exploration with discipline while saving each other in tough moments. While you may go faster alone, together you can go farther! In WARM MONKEY's multiplayer mode, communication and coordination are crucial for success.
The scoreboard, in old-school style.
- The scoring system, reminiscent of traditional arcade games, rewards the player or team's performance in multiple ways. In WARM MONKEY, points are earned based on exploration duration, the number of monkeys in your group, altitude, acrobatic feats, but also monumental buildings you discover as you explore! These buildings are easily recognizable by their unique appearance, and as you get closer to them, they reward you with valuable bonus points. You can choose to either focus on completing the game by reaching the beach, or you can explore the map and its remarkable elements to score the highest points. At the end of each game, you're invited to enter your score on the leaderboard to see how your performance compares to others.
