    What\'s this? A strange shadow creature? Shades are playful little spirits with not much in the way of brains, but they\'re cute and friendly enough that we\'re sure you\'ll be fine caring for one. Time in the garden passes in real time, so pop in on occasion and feed it a bean or two if you can. They\'re pretty hardy, so no worries if they need to fend for themselves for a bit. Though, if you do raise it carefully, it might be able to help you out with some things in the near future...

    Check it out from the new Garden button in the Mode Select menu.

    Hi there. We\'re interrupting our usually scheduled programming to bring you something of an emergency patch to fix some flickering issues introduced with the latest Windows 10 and 11 updates.\n\nNotable Changes:\n

    • Fixed flickering issue on Windows\n - The change made to Windows as part of their September 2025 update that caused the flickering retroactively affects ALL previous versions of Crescent Roll, unfortunately. We highly recommend updating. Not that there\'s really much of a reason to stay on any of the older versions anyway, but you know.\n
    • Miscellaneous hangs relating to malformed and incomplete mods fixed\n
    • Core Mod File Browser added in the Mod => Docs sub-menu\n - Use it to pull any of the resources used by the game as a template for your own mods. Be sure to read the license agreement for re-distributing assets though, please.\n

    The Ruthless Capitalism Update

    It\'s a hot one out there. And in here too - our [strike]oven[/strike] PC has been on non-stop for the past two months getting this update ready. And it\'s a spicy one:

    Standard offerings starting to feel stale? Introducing Challenge Mode! The clock is ticking down, and you have a never-ending stream of randomized special orders to fill with all kinds of strange effects. From shrinking your ball down to encasing it in jelly, each changes how you need to approach every stage. The longer you go, the more Dough you earn and the more coins get added to the stage, but the less time is restored and the more effects get piled on at once. How long can you hang on?

The randomness and sheer number of combinations means you might hit certain setups that are significantly more difficult than others out of the blue, so if you get frustrated with potentially unwinnable situations or external factors ruining your run, this mode might not be for you.

    \nCosmetics get an Overhaul

All 3 modes also give out Dough, with big bonuses for getting new hearts, so play what you want and the cash will just roll in.\n\nDon\'t worry - any existing cosmetics you bought before carry over, and you\'ll get some Dough for all of the Hearts that you\'ve earned before this update, even if you\'ve already spent them.

    • Fixed an issue with the game hanging when trying to start without a save file on certain machines

    June 6 2025 Update v1.3.2

    Don't mind me - just doing a little bit of preliminary maintenance here before the big stuff shows up.

    Notable Changes:

    • UI Fixes
      - Back Button on the Main Menu now shows the controller button. Not sure how we missed that one.
      - Steam Deck should size stuff like the Cookie Jar setup menu correctly now
    • Performance Tweaks
      - Stage Loading should no longer lag, and be significantly faster on most machines
      - Main Menu especially should run consistently faster now, especially on Steam Deck
      - The initial game load will last a little bit longer now. We're working on getting that back down, but had to make a temporary tradeoff to get the rest of the game running more smoothly.

    Last chance to explicitly purchase specific in-game cosmetics with the Hearts earned on stages, for real this time. The next update is adding a lot of cosmetics, but switches over to a different in-game currency system and makes the unlocks mostly luck-dependent, You'll keep all your existing cosmetics, and be retroactively awarded Dough for your best stage times with no penalty on any Hearts spent, so might as well go nuts and nab what you want now.

    The hazy days of Summer are soon upon us, and that means picnics. And picnics, means bees. And bees, means honey. And you keep honey in jars. See where we're going with this? Probably not.

    Cookie Jar Mode get an Upgrade

    A total of 10 individual Cookie Jar stages are now available! Merge the balls together for the ever-elusive king-sized snack in a variety of somewhat inconveniently-shaped-for-storage jars. Also, some of them might be a little sticky with honey. But the hearts earned here can be spent on cosmetics just like the ones in the Main Course mode, so aim for that high score!

    Please note that a total of 10 recipes need to be cleared in the Main Course mode before Cookie Jar mode is unlocked. I mean, you've gotta bake 'em first. You can't stick Nothing in a cookie jar.

    Get to New Stuff Faster

    That extra three seconds of having to sit through the stage setup animation twice if you beat a stage and then just wanted to immediately move on to a different one was kind of annoying. So instead of giving up and finally making a normal results screen, we opted for a quick menu that pops up for those brief seconds that you can use to pick if you want to advance or retry. If the next stage hasn't been cleared, it'll default to moving on instead of retrying, but you can change it with a quick button press. There's still no penalty for failing or changing stage normally though, but now you can keep riding that flow just a little bit more efficiently.

    Other Changes

    • The UI buttons now show for Keyboard and dynamically change when controllers change
    • A new Hairstyle and Hat to celebrate... bees, I guess.
    • Additional tweaks to reduce level loading times when playing all of them in a suite.
    • Lots of internal stuff getting cleaned up to help with future content.

    As usual, if you happen to find any bugs (except for the bees) please let us know. We'll squash them for you right quick.

    This week's levels are now hot and ready. Come and get 'em.

    Notable Changes:

    • The Level Select in-game now shows individual times and hearts earned
    • 5 new Cordial Levels
    • PlayStation 4 and 5 controllers now change colors based on the background. Neat.
    • Significant re-organization for Menu systems under the hood
      - This should slightly improve memory consumption for the Main Menu
    • Potential crash fixed when you have more than 4 controllers plugged in

    Another reminder that in the next major update in May, the cosmetics shop is going to change to switch to a capsule machine system, so the number of cosmetics is going to increase dramatically, but it will not be possible to directly pick which outfit you want. You will be granted the full amount of game currency that you would have earned over playing the game at the time of the switch, with nothing deducted from any of the purchases made with the current heart system, so we suggest grabbing the items that you specifically want now before the switchover occurs.

    Greetings, Gourmands.

    In the excitement of the Steam Deck release last week, we seem to have forgotten to put out our Easter Specials. Have no fear, as you are now free to overdose on virtual chocolate and jelly beans. Or at least one shiny foil egg.

    Notable Changes:

    • Various internal tweaks and fixes
      - Switching between Touch/Mouse and Controller modes should work more consistently
      - The advice given on the Recipe Complete screen should change according to progress now
    • 5 new Easter holiday levels, with a particularly difficult one at the tail end
    • Some rather tacky bunny ears

    We'll also take this time to give a heads-up that the cosmetic shop will be changing in the next update to better facilitate a larger number of items. Anything that you buy now with the current system WILL remain unlocked, however. If you have something in particular you know you absolutely want to get now, you may want to spend the hearts to grab it before the next update sometime in May.
