Giving Thanks

Its that time of year where we here in America take time to appreciate all the good things that have happened, and we want to extend our sincere gratitude and thanks to all our players here at home and wherever else you might be. Thank you for giving our game a play, thank you for the feedback youve given us, and thank you for accompanying us on our journey upwards! We truly appreciate every single one of you who has played and hopefully, in these tumultuous times we find ourselves in, Go Up can be at least a small something to be thankful for. We hope you all have enjoyed everything that weve been able to add to the game so far, and hope you continue to enjoy the upcoming changes. Whisps

Whisps are naturally occurring accumulations that can grow over time as they collect the various types of particles. You can click them to collect what theyve accumulated so far, but if you let them grow youll get more out of them. There are also some new whisp related dark skills in the skill tree.

Emotes

The character now has a mouth with which to scream or smile, or frown, depending on what you might subject it to.

More Stats

We are now tracking a number of new stats in the compendium. For instance, those of you who were wondering the total number of particles your refiner has made, we now have an answer for you in your favorite format, yet another number that goes up! (If anyone has a specific stat they want tracked that we arent already tracking let us know and we\'ll see what we can do)

Dark Upgrades

Purchasing dark upgradable skills now allows you to see the next purchasable dark upgradable skill, and you dont have to purchase the normal version of the skill ever again!

New Music Track!

Our friend Stephen Garza has made yet another aural masterpiece for you to unlock, a true fest for your ears!

Go Up October Update

The Tree of Life

We introduced the Tree of Life in the last update but have since fleshed out the mechanics a bit more. As the tree grows it may produce a branch or a fruit as you already know, but now the branches can grant powerful passives that will help you in various ways along your journey.

Pruning

  • You can now prune the tree for a stick and a chance to grow more fruit in its place, or possibly a branch with different passive effects. Once you have a branch you like you can upgrade it by fertilizing the tree.

Composting and Fertilizing

  • You can now compost fruit and/or sticks collected from the tree and once youve collected the compost you can use it to fertilize your tree. This will upgrade its branches for more powerful passives and/or grow your fruits to the next tier instantly!

Biotemporal Suspension

  • Once you have your tree the way you want it, and if you arent interested in gathering more fruit, you can now freeze the tree in its current state. While Biotemporalysis is in effect the tree will no longer wither or grow.

Compendium and Stats

Weve added some more info about particles into the compendium expanding on the lore of Go Up. Weve also been trying to pack in some more statistics that you can monitor in real time while playing.

\nChaos Buildup and Shape Spawns

Weve changed the way chaos builds up to add more randomness. Now the more quickly you collect chaos particles the less they are worth, but weve also added randomness to triggering the chaos event, meaning there is no longer a set amount of particles you need before the event spawns.

We continued to add a few more shape spawns as well, and Im sure we have some more coming up. Also instead of only getting the anvil event while suffering, now the lower value shape drops can also reduce your suffering count.

  • Weve reorganized, added, and changed a few things in the skill tree with new hidden areas youll need to find. Some of these hidden areas may require an item to unlock, which bring me to the next big change!

  • Weve added usable items into the game, some are used to unlock hidden areas, some are used to boost spawn rates, who knows what some of these items may do in the future! One of the more important items you may find moving forward is the simple but powerful omni fruit. But how does one acquire one of these rare fruits?\n

  • Agriculture is one of the corner stones of any society, and now you can farm in Go Up with the Tree of Life! Water your tree, watch it grow! Max it out in order to grow the most fruit. The omni fruit is a very valuable tool when it comes to ascending. You can eat it, you can sell it, and weve got some more big ideas for the future of the omni fruit.

Notifications and the Compendium

  • You cant always be looking at your progress in Go Up, and being an idle game I would go so far as to say you probably shouldnt. This being so weve decided to add some notifications when certain things happen so when you get back you can see that youve encountered something you may not have seen before.

  • Weve finally got the first batch of achievements ready to go, but you can bet there will be many more to come. These are the first of many, maybe not as much as some idle games, but I think there will be enough to keep you busy for a while.\n

  • As always this update comes with a slough of minor bug fixes and some quality of life improvements. We also have continued to further optimize as much as we can, because were going to need some head room for the larger updates ahead. Also the skill tree should be a little easier to navigate now, and editing your sigil should be a little less fidgety.\n

Go Up August Update!

[u]Oodles of Moodles[/u]

Weve added a moodle system to help show statuses you might face in your journey. For example our players are probably already familiar with the encroaching darkness, but were not sure how many noticed that if you let it build up for a while you actually get a reward after. With the new moodle system you can see exactly how much bonus time youve built up.

[u]Looming Shadows and Suffering[/u]

As you progress through Go Up youll have to make many decisions, some of these decisions might lead to gaining power, but often gaining power comes with some bad karma, which could build up, which in turn could lead to some things going wrong. Injury or even monsters may mire your progress if you choose the path of darkness. Luckily there are paths to absolution for those hoping to embrace the light!

[u]Oaths take and Tithes[/u]

Our players may have interacted with these skills in order to halt the encroaching darkness, but beware broken oaths and unpaid dues!

[u]Good and Bad Deeds[/u]

Crime pays, but your conscience often foots the bill. You might be able to progress down an easy path more quickly, but there is something to be said for doing some good deeds and progressing quickly without the weight of a guilty consequence.

[u]Omni particle frenzy[/u]

Along with consequences weve also added some new rewards. The Omni particle is a special and rare new particle that will boost the spawn rate of all other particles for a short time. Grab them quick before you pass them by!

[u]Radiant ascension[/u]

If you ascend with a clean conscience you will be rewarded with an hour of higher spawn rates making your progress on your next ascension a little easier.

[u]Clicking the can down the road with the Arrow Meter[/u]

We\'ve heard your cries of \"Button? Why Button?\" In short weve decided to alleviate the strain of holding a button in these trying times and will now be subsidizing any press or click with the new Arrow Meter. It will fill while holding down any button, fill faster when clicking faster, and will make everything function as if you were pressing while there is still juice in the tank. More clicks, less holds, making every second of active play go further towards your next ascension, or allow for a more afk upwards experience.

[u]Less Falling, Go Higher[/u]

We\'ve changed the base acceleration skills so that you not only stop falling when the game is closed but now have also added dark upgrades that actually let you go up while the game is closed. We\'ve also decided to add the ascension bonus multiplier to high scores, which in combination with the new acceleration skills might make highscores start to get a little out of hand, but that\'s a problem for another day.

[u]Player Made Sigils are here![/u]

Players may now create their own sigils made up of all the different particles. If a player has customized their own sigil then anyone passing that players high score gets to collect their sigil.

These sigils could be made of gold or even dark particles, making passing a player with a sigil a pretty lucrative event. But for those who have spent some time making fancy sigils of their own, players may also collect their own sigils at the beginning of each ascension. As you progress through the game the size and amount of particles used in making the sigils goes up, so the more sigils you make the richer everyone may become!

Go Up July Update is here!

What a time to Go Up!

Free Demo!

First off we wanted to mention the free demo that is available on Steam. We finished it ahead of schedule and decided to quietly release it a little while back, but we wanted to make sure anyone who is following this main Go Up page and didn\'t see it had a chance to play asap. Who doesnt like free samples, right?

Balance Changes

Go Up is in a very exciting state for us developers right now, which usually means big changes, new systems, and fun new interactions. We are constantly discovering new ideas we want to add to Go Up and ways to improve on the systems that we have in place.

Ascension

We\'ve decided that to make some of our new systems make more sense moving forward that Gold Dust will need to be reset on Ascension . Don\'t worry, we know that the Gold Dust must flow, so we\'ve added some new systems that will help you keep your engine running...so to speak.

Dark Skills

You might notice we\'ve also \"rebalanced\" the costs of most dark skills. One of the hardest parts to making an incremental game is knowing how things are going to scale as our players make their way through the game. We knew that Dark Particles were going to be more rare than Gold Dust, but we really had no idea how rich in Dark Particles some of our players would become. Safe to say, the amount of dark particles you get was way more than we initially imagined and have upped the cost of most dark skills to fit this scaling. As we continue to test and get a better idea of how some dark skills will affect your ascensions we think some of these cost increases may go back down a bit. Either way there are many more new skills on the horizon, some more affordable than others.

Encroaching Darkness

If youve been lucky enough to witness the encroaching darkness effect and reap the rewards, then weve got good news. The encroaching darkness effect now builds up faster, which in turn makes the rewards build up faster as well. Unfortunately this also means the slowing effect of the encroaching darkness builds up faster as well, but there are some eclectic ways of getting around this debuff. A word of caution to the wise, delving into occult matters comes with its own consequences but for now youre probably safe.

NEW MECHANICS!

Here comes the good part! There is a lot to go through here and even more mechanics up our sleeve just waiting to be implemented, so sit back, relax, and Go Up!

Painting with Particles

Our favorite new system lets us make use of our extraordinary artistic talents, and in the next update youll be able to flex your own creative muscles as well!

Lets face it, everyone wants to go fast, its just a fact of life. Lucky for you there is a brand new particle that will let you ascend faster than ever! These particles act a little differently than the others, but we think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Efficiency and Ascension Update

Our first update since the Early Access launch comes with some pretty major improvements. Performance has been greatly improved, we\'ve reworked the balance of ascending, and we added some really nice new visual effects and fixed some others.

Performance

We\'ve made some major changes to how some core bits are handled so you can rise much more efficiently now. There should be far fewer frame drops now, even during the most chaotic of events.

This has also opened the door to some new interesting mechanics that we are excited to implement now that we can put a ton more dust and trails on the screen at once, so keep an eye out for that in the near future.

Visuals

You will notice a few new juicy visual updates in this latest release. There is now (finally!) a visual effect for the magnet, that I think came out really well :). This should make it much more clear what the radius of the magnet is and when it is active, as well as where the Go Getter is most effective.

The trails have also received a major overhaul so they are much smoother and just generally nicer looking now, as well as much more efficient to render on the screen freeing up much more space for some future mechanics. The stars in the chaotic events that occur in space also now have some nice colorful wiggly trails.

Balance

After much deliberation we\'ve decided that the mechanic that forces your height to reset on skill purchase, effectively making you go down, is simply too punishing and frankly disgusts us, so we\'ve removed it entirely. After all this is Go Up! You are now free to Go Up, unrestrained by the burden of saving your Golden Dust for just the right moment. It\'s your dust and you need it now! Spend freely, and ascend to greater heights than ever before.

More and Less

Our testers have been going up for a couple weeks now and have shared their thoughts on how to Go Up in new and exciting ways. For their troubles we have implemented a couple new skill trees that can help our active users as well as our users that like to Go Up at their own pace.

[u]Mouse Collector[/u]

A mini-you controlled by the mouse with limited space for dust particles, but not to worry, when you fill up you can just drop them off and go back for more! Yet another way to collect more points in your quest to find the greatest heights.

[u]Zero Point Energy[/u]

We've unlocked the use of Zero Point Energy in our propulsion systems. These particles may be used for a limited time to go up almost as if you were pressing a button! Unlock more skills in this new skill tree to go up for longer periods of time without having to press a button (but I mean, where's the fun in that right...right?).

[u]Open Alpha Test[/u]

We want to thank all of our early alpha testers who have gone up with us so far. As we near early access and the end of the playtest we've decided to open up the alpha test to everyone. No longer will our players have to wait on approval to begin their journey. Let our people go...up!

Go Up Beta Test is Live!

The Go Up beta test has begun and the first wave of testers have already begun their ascent. Thanks to Steam's brand new functionality you may now invite up to 3 friends to participate in the beta test and compete with each other to see who can go the highest!

We will be busy making fixes and rolling out updates to the beta test for the next few days, but we would still love to hear your feedback! We've included a questionnaire which you can access after launching the playtest. If you do happen to experience a crash then send the bug report when you reopen the game to help expedite the fix.
