Korter 1996 is an exploration of loneliness in a point and click adventure game. You can organise and decorate your new apartment and go on expeditions to other people's homes to find more items. While exploring different apartments on the block, you get to solve puzzles that will lead you to more information on each of the inhabitants. How you interact with the items in their apartments will move forward their story and through item dialogues you get to know about their lives.

2025 End of Year Update

Korter team is sending off the year with our last 2025 update!

Hope all of you are safe and well! For us this year has been very much focused on Korter 1996, with the release in June and polishing the rough edges with updates over the following months. Right now, we are very tired but happy, ready to wrap up and put a bow on the Korter year.

  • The very next week, we showcased our game at TipiLAN in Tallinn, and ran a decorating competition

We\'re back with an autumn update for Korter 1996!

This update is packed with bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and a few extra story-beats, interactions and items. You can safely use your existing save game and see the newly added items, and if you already completed the game, I would recommend experiencing the ending again!

The path ahead for Korter 1996 definitely features a few more of these updates. We launched the game with the full story we wanted to tell and a generally bug free path from start to end, so we\'re really proud of that! But were not quite done yet. For future updates we want to make every apartment feel really lived in, and make sure every character\'s story is properly realised and has a satisfying finale. Next up, well do a big items update, making the decorating part more interesting and versatile.

July Update

Oooh, so its been almost three weeks after our release and honestly, it feels more like a month. Weve been doing small patches to deal with the more annoying bugs based on your feedback and on Tuesday we published a bigger update that concludes this months patch-work.

Bug fixes

  • The morning recording sequence had trouble starting automatically after loading the game so we decided for it to be interaction-based. So, you have to make the extra click to start the recording but it now always works.

  • An issue on some Mac models made all of the sprites turn hot pink until you toggled fullscreen, so we got a slightly dirty fix to make it refresh the sprites on startup.

  • Steam Achievements went live last week but now weve made sure you can actually achieve all of them.

  • Made sure music always switches when going through the Main Menu.

  • Added a new cursor type for navigating the stairs.

Hotfix Patch 3

We fixed even more things!

  • The loading order for Progress is now 100% accurate
  • Unlocking achievements show the Steam toast immediately, instead of after the game
  • When loading, the notebook now opens to the correct page
  • When quitting to main menu during a sleep scene, the night sounds stop
  • Some plates were given different names so they load correctly
  • Attempt to fix a visual glitch the first time you look at each scene after a load
  • The PC now correctly adds UI elements when loading
  • Wallet slots now show what is in them immediately when loading
  • Daily recap trigger now happens even after a load
  • Fix the Day 5 softlock that stopped you sleeping

That's all for now, hopefully this build will run real smooth :)

Achievements (and Bugfixes)

Hello everyone!

I hope you have been enjoying this first week of playing with Korter 1996! We've been so thrilled to see your screenshots, reviews and lovely comments on our game. We wanted to reward some of your more... interesting decorating choices, and give you a little something to hunt for, so we've added achievements!

Full patch notes:

  • Added 30 achievements to the game, including 7 hidden achievements. Can you find them all?
  • Fixed several save/load issues
  • All items in the game can now be loaded (the load system had an old list of items, and would miss a few things towards the end of the game)
  • When loading, progression actually unlocks in the right order this time. (I thought I fixed this in the hotfix, but I guess it slipped through)
  • Added sound effects to lots of items that either had no pickup/place sound or had the default sound

Hi there!

We're so happy people are enjoying our game and leaving lovely feedback. We've got a great hotfix for you this morning, basically fixing the entire save/load system, so you can actually take your time and decorate your Korter over multiple sessions <3

  • Major fix to loading save games. (It now unlocks your progress in the correct order, so that the correct objects are activated and triggered in the correct order)
  • Save which items you've taken out of the catalogue, no more infinite items sorry
  • Fix the Back button in menu being blocked when in 16:10 ratio (it was the version number overlapping)
  • Music transitions back to the regular in-game track if you press "Continue" after credits

Demo Patch 2

Our final demo patch before the release is now live! Just in time for Next Fest. Weve done a big UI overhaul to make it feel more like its part of the world that you are exploring. You can read more about the details below.

Demo Patch 1

After the demo launch, taking some time off and looking at the project with fresh eyes we've now made some fixes that we thought were important for making the demo more enjoyable. If you haven't got to trying it out yet, now's a good time.

Here's a summary of what we've improved:

Content Changes

  • Made the placements in the starting apartment feel more snug
  • Added an audio-visual treat to solving the final puzzle of the demo
  • Some characters now have hidden portraits until you meet them
  • Improved the puzzle-solving flow in apartment 5

Bug Fixes

  • Fix some bugs where you could click through solid sprites
  • Fix some outlines not showing correctly when hovering over objects
  • Fix some hints that werent showing up
  • Prevent UI elements going over the edge of the Address Book
  • Increased the interaction area for some awkward sprites
  • Changed the magazine when you already found it
  • Fix transparent items being invisible when previewed
  • Fix a visual error in the portal shader at large resolutions
