Update v0.1.1 - Patch Notes

Thanks for playing Loki's Revenge! Just a small patch with some fixes and tweaks based on Day 1 player feedback and bug reports.

  • Fixed a bug where the timer would stop working after increasing the Vengeance level

  • Made Swarm enemies faster

  • Rebalanced the global stat upgrades as follows:

    • Area decreased to 5% per level, max of 25%

    • Attack decreased to 5% per level, max of 25%

    • Cooldown decreased to -1% per level, max of -5%

    • Dodge Chance decreased to 1% per level, max of 5%

    • Luck decreased to 1% per level, max of 5%

    • Speed decreased to 1% per level, max of 5%

    • XP Modifier decreased to 1% per level, max of 5%

  • Made Bifrost Shards bigger so that they're more noticeable

Loki's Revenge is OUT NOW in Early Access!

The wait is over - Loki's Revenge is OUT NOW in Early Access!

Lokis Revenge is a survivors-like roguelite where you play as Norse gods fighting Lokis army of monsters to prevent Ragnarok! Level up to gain powerful upgrades and explore hand-crafted maps to find secrets. Build the ultimate overpowered god with permanent upgrades and master each gods signature ability.

The Early Access version of the game has the following content on day 1:

  • 3 playable characters: Thor, Sif, Odin

  • Each playable character has a signature Active ability (right click or triggers)

  • Permanent meta progression via stat upgrades that affect all characters

  • 25+ Boons (stat upgrades, weapon-style boons, status effects, and passives)

  • 1 map with hidden secrets, a challenge area, and a final boss

  • Achievements (in-game, Steam achievements coming soon)

  • Steam Cloud save support

    • If you played the demo - your demo save ports over automatically

  • Vengeance levels - the ability to loop a run with harder enemies

There's a ton of content planned for the full version of the game - but I need player feedback to help shape it! I'm a solo dev who's been making this game for a year and a half, so I've certainly got blind spots. The Early Access version represents the starting point after iterating on the demo with players. There's currently a 10% launch discount on the 1.99 USD price. The price will increase as new content gets added in Early Access as a way to be fair to players who support the game early. (Please see the other announcement posts for details)

Early Access FAQ

Hi everyone! I've gotten some questions about the Early Access launch, pricing, updates, etc. and wanted to make a definitive post here with all the information.

Content in EA and how it differs from the demo


  • A new boon, Vampiric Wing, has been added! This boon has a very small % chance to heal you (and fully heal on its final level) every time you hit an enemy with an attack

  • Kaun Challenges have been added! There's 1 to find in Midgard for now, but more are planned. These challenges require you to kill a specific number of enemies while standing in a specific area to unlock a new boon. Vampiric Wing is the 1st of these!

  • A new Weapon-type boon, Fire Wand, has been added! You can get this from the Bifrost gift when defeating a mini-boss enemy. The fire wand fires a slow-moving fireball at a random enemy. When fully leveled, the fireballs spawn much quicker and deal more damage

  • The level cap has been increased from 100 to 1000

  • New achievements

  • Steam Cloud Save support

  • Various bugs have been fixed and tweaks have been made, such as:

    • Fixed a bug where a boon found in the map wouldn't be able to be leveled during that run

    • Fixed a save file bug where the game would've missed new boons added in updates

    • Tweaked the volume and pitch of some SFX

    • Adjusted some VFX, like the level up falling XP gems

    • Increased the number of enemies Odin's spear, Gungnir, pierces to 5

    • Adjusted the hitboxes and sorting of trees in Midgard

Please note that the demo will no longer be available when the full version of the game releases! This is because it's a lot of work to maintain 2 versions of the game that fairly limit the content in the demo, while also representing the current state of the game well.

Content update plan


My intention is to release meaningful updates about once per month. That frequency may vary in either direction based on a variety of factors. If people are finding bugs, I'll try to fix those faster. If I'm not able to make enough changes in a month, I may wait to release an update until I can.

This is the type of content I'd like to update the game with:

  • More maps

  • More characters

  • More boons

  • More Kaun challenges

  • More bosses and enemy types

  • More permanent upgrades to spend gold on

  • QoL features like a compendium

  • New modes

  • New content I'm not even thinking about based on player feedback!

However, to be fully transparent, I can't make specific commitments to the frequency or type of updates for a few reasons:

  • Loki's Revenge is a side project for me - I have a full time job and other responsibilities outside of working on the game, which limits how long I can work on it

  • I'm a solo developer, so if I can't work on the game, nothing gets added to it

  • If the game sells poorly, I frankly can't justify a long timeline of updates when I could be working on new games

No matter what happens, I truly intend to release a 1.0 version of the game and exit Early Access at some point. That could be a couple of months, it could be a year. It totally depends on how the game does after launch.

Pricing plan


  • The game will be 1.99 at launch, with a 7-day discount of 10% for early players as an extra thank you

  • As the game gets bigger and heads toward 1.0, the price will increase. I'm not 100% sure on the final price, since it will depend on the final content. The goal is to thank players who jump in early by having a reduced price. Whenever a price increase is coming, I'll give plenty of heads up and be very clear about it.

Early Access Release Date Announcement!

It's official - Loki's Revenge launches in Early Access on June 23, 2025!

Here are some key details:

  • The game will be 1.99 at launch, with a 7-day discount of 10% for early players

  • There will be a bit more content than the current demo version - some new boons and achievements, some balance tweaks, etc.

  • It will support Steam Cloud Saves at launch, with Steam Achievements coming soon

  • When the full game releases, the demo will be taken down. It's difficult to maintain both versions of the game as a solo dev, and I don't want players to play a very outdated version of the demo when the game is much farther along.

  • My goal is to update the game at least on a monthly basis with new content, but that will depend on what needs to be added

  • As the game gets bigger and heads toward 1.0, the price will increase. I'm not 100% sure on the final price, since it will depend on the final content, which will depend on player feedback. The goal is to thank players who jump in early by having a reduced price. Whenever a price increase is coming, I'll give plenty of heads up and be very clear about it.

Loki's Revenge will be in the June 2025 Steam Next Fest!

Exciting news - Loki's Revenge will be participating in Steam Next Fest this month!

To celebrate, a new demo update will be available during Next Fest that now has Odin unlockable and playable!

The Allfather himself wields Gungnir, his legendary spear. Odin is built like a glass cannon - he has lower health than Thor and Sif, but has higher attack, weapon speed, etc.

His active ability spawns his wolves, Geri and Freki, to help mow down enemies. Once spawned, Geri and Freki will bounce across the screen and deal high damage to any enemies they run into along the way. They really help with crowd control when tons of enemies are on screen!

Demo v0.2.1 Patch Live

Couple of small fixes in this build:

  • Fixed an issue where menu buttons were sometimes unresponsive to mouse clicks
  • Fixed an issue where the Bifrost Bridge would repeatedly spawn after killing the final boss
  • Fixed an issue where the Vengeance level would incorrectly persist after finishing a run
  • Fixed an issue where the time survived displayed on the game over screen would incorrectly appear as 0 after winning a run
  • Changed the XP requirement at every 10 levels to jump by ~100XP rather than the previous 1000+

Demo Update v0.2 is LIVE NOW

The wait is finally over - Loki's Revenge Demo v0.2 is now LIVE!
This update has been long in the making, and I'm so excited to finally release it. This demo contains:

Sneak Peak at a LARGE Demo Update Coming Soon!

A LARGE update to the Loki's Revenge Demo is coming soon!


I've been quietly hard at work for the last few months on a very large update to the Loki's Revenge demo that is packed with new content, features, and quality of life changes that are bringing the game much closer to launch. Here's a sneak peak at a small selection of what to expect:

ACHIEVEMENTS


Achievements are now in the game! They're not just feel-good popups either, they're directly tied to unlocking new content in the game. The screenshot above has a super small sample of what to expect - killing a certain number of enemies, surviving for a certain amount of time, or even finding secrets within the levels will unlock new characters and boons to power up your gods.

NEW CHARACTERS


Sif and Odin have been visible in the demo, but not playable for awhile. FINALLY they are unlockable and playable!! They play very differently from Thor - with their own stats, weapons, and abilities. They each feel different enough to suit a different playstyle without any one of them (hopefully) feeling like the obvious best choice.
I'll give a quick sneak-peek at Sif and how she compares to Thor: Sif is bulkier, but weaker than Thor. She starts off with higher health (5 compared to Thor's 3), but is slightly slower, shoots a little slower, and has half the attack that Thor does. However, she also has higher starting knockback to keep enemies away while she collects enough boons to rival Thor's starting strength. Sif, like Thor, also has a powerful ability you can activate. Sif's active ability makes her invincible for a few seconds, and then heals 1 health afterwards. Since enemies back away when they touch the gods, this lets Sif get out of tight situations by pushing enemies away, and then healing some damage.

REDESIGNED LEVEL UP AND BOON SYSTEM


Previously called "upgrades," boons have had more than a name change. They now each have leveled-up versions you can collect. Some boons will have different effects upon level up, so keep a close eye on the description when choosing one! If you've played the demo before, you'll notice that the screen has had a lot of love - it's a MUCH cleaner and thematically appropriate design, much easier on the eyes.

BARRELS


Previously, enemies would drop pickups like chicken legs (recover health) and magnet orbs (collect all XP you haven't picked up yet). Now, barrels will appear throughout the map that you can break for a chance to find a pickup. You may also notice the coin icon in the UI now - coins are the currency you'll collect to buy upgrades for your gods after a run. Coins can appear in these barrels, and how often you find them is dependent on your Luck stat!

FINALLY - SAVE FILES


Last thing to mention is a basic one - your progress is now saved! You can see the debug button I've been using to test the system on the revamped main menu here. Your progress is automatically saved anytime an important event happens (unlocked an achievement, ended a run, etc.) The system is also being built so that it's possible to import your demo save to the full version of the game if you want! That's all for now! There's plenty more I haven't called out, like the new CRT filter, new enemies, new boons, new secrets, and more. Demo Update V0.1.4 - In-Level Upgrades!

The Loki's Revenge Demo update v0.1.4 is now live! It's been a little bit since the last demo update (lots of big life stuff), but this is a major one for the game so far.

Changes


  • In-level upgrades - you can now find unique upgrades hidden in the map! There are currently 5 hidden upgrades - can you find them all?
  • Finding an upgrade in the map will unlock it in the normal pool on subsequent runs (note: only within the same session. Closing the game and re-opening will reset the upgrades, since saving is not available in the demo yet)
  • Added an Area stat - this controls the area of effect for damage-dealing weapons
  • Poop now scales with Area rather than Pickup Range
  • Fixed a number of bugs related to UI scaling, wrapping, etc.

Demo Update v0.1.3 - Fixes and Tweaks!

Thanks for playing the Loki's Revenge demo! In update v0.1.3, there's a few minor fixes and tweaks:

  • Added a moving background texture to the Character Select and Options screens
  • Adjusted the player hit effect
  • Fixed a bug where Andvaranaut was subtracting 1 from max health
  • Made it clearer that Odin and Sif are not yet available in the demo
  • Adjust player and enemy colliders/hitboxes/hurtboxes based on player feedback
  • Fixed a bug where the player could only take damage from any given enemy once and then never again (i.e. Enemy A damages player, can never be damaged by Enemy A again)

Demo Update v0.1.2 - Auto Attacking!

The Loki's Revenge Demo update v0.1.2 is now live! This update comes with the following changes and fixes based on player feedback:

Changes


  • Manual attacking has been removed and replaced with auto-attacking with aiming on mouse cursor
  • Related to the above: ammo has been removed from the game, all attacks occur on cooldown
  • Changed the "Shot Cooldown" stat to "Cooldown" which now affects all weapon upgrades
  • Removed Reload Cooldown and Ammo stats
  • Removed the aim reticle, now default Windows mouse cursor displays
  • Move speed penalty on shooting removed
  • Removed camera lean on aiming with mouse cursor
  • Updated the tutorial text
  • Updated text related to the above changes
  • Rebalanced Thor and Mjolnir's stats
  • Reduced Hraesvelgr's Feather from +25% weapon speed to +10%

Bug Fixes


  • Fixed a bug where run stats would not clear when returning to the Main Menu from the Game Over/Win screen, causing the next run to complete after killing 1 enemy

After eons of being imprisoned by the Asgardian gods for his crimes and trickery, Loki has broken free and is taking revenge! Loki has unleashed his army of loyal monsters to terrorize the realms and take control from the Norse gods. Fight back as one of your favorite gods and defeat Loki and his army!

Defeat Loki's Loyal Army

Draugrs, ogres, wolves, and the jotnar - they all fight for Loki and must be stopped! Defeat wave after wave of large hordes of monsters and bosses. Some monsters behave differently and will, for example, shoot projectiles.

Master each god's unique ability

Every god has their own, unique ability you can activate. For example: Thor uses his lightning powers to double all of his stats, while Sif channels the energy of the bifrost to heal herself. Each god's ability creates unique play styles!

Level Up and Gain Powerful Boons

When defeated, enemies will drop XP. Collect enough and you'll level up and get to choose from 3 powerful Boons! Boss enemies will also drop a Bifrost Shard that gives you access to unique Boons. Some Boons boost your stats, some give you new ways of attacking enemies and dealing damage. Collect as many as you can to build the ultimate overpowered god!

Permanently Upgrade Your Character

Gods never die! After dying or completing a run, you'll have the opportunity to spend your hard-earned XP on permanent upgrades. Boost stats for gods or select upgrades unique to each god to make your favorite even stronger!

Explore hand-crafted maps to find hidden upgrades

Each map is hand-designed - no procedural generation here! Hidden within each of them are powerful upgrades. Once you find them, they'll be permanently added to your available pool of upgrades for future runs.
