CAW CAW! BAGOODA! WEESNAW! These are the noises I make when I playHear Say. I would never be able to make these noises if it werent for the geniusJackbox Gamesdevelopers behind the project.
These outside-the-box thinkers created a new game forParty Pack 11 where you use your real phone microphone to make real noises that are put into the real game! We recently spoke to the team about what went into makingHear Say.

Please introduce yourself and your role on Hear Say.
Hi! Im Alina Constantin, I was the game director forHear Say.
Im Bruno Rodrguez, and I worked on the art forHear Say.
Im Michael Siciliano, I programmedHear Say.
Im Avery Makel, I worked on the sound forHear Say.
How did you come up with the idea for Hear Say?
Hear Says game idea started in Jackboxs sound department. A group of sound designers and engineers prototyped a concept where players competed as foley artists, using microphone input to make silly sound effects for old movies. We built on that to go beyond literal dubbing and answer the question - how many different ways can we bring your sounds to life? - Alina
Something the team added after the initial pitch was the intermission games (Ups & Downs, Nibble Noises, and Hup Hop). We did all this work to hook up microphones into the game and we really wanted to push what we could do with that beyond just recording words or sounds for a prompt. - Michael
Do you have any fun stories from making Hear Say?
Once people get comfortable recording, you get somespectacular nonsense.\nWhen colleagues started to say that when they played, their pets were leaving the room or their partners checked in to see if they were ok, we knew we were getting there.\n\nOne time we were testing out a music video idea, and got to hear each other belting insane lyrics wed just made together. It wasnt reliable enough to keep, but was a lot of fun - Alina
What makes the Hear Say dev team so special?
Everyone on the team is incredibly talented and dedicated to their work. Every detail of this game is meticulously crafted, tested and vetted on repeat; whether its camera motion, the impact of tied scores, the dynamic linework of an animated character, the exact audio range your phone is picking up and playing back, the exact sound effect or adjective to help players performances be fun, varied, and the joke land twice, amplified onto the exact split second off a patchwork of corporate footage that was definitely filmed with something else in mind Its very intentional and elaborate work to make something feel beautifully stupid at its best - Alina
There are no big egos, everyone offers their take on things but we respect each other a lot. I really enjoy what everyone worked on, from the hilarious prompts and videos that Paris \\[Newton,Hear SaysEditorial Lead,] and Alina wrote and curated to the cool tech stuff Chase \\[McClure] and Michael worked on for the controller and the game respectively. Avery \\[Makel,Hear SaysAudio Lead,] made some incredible music, and Dutch \\[Freese, our QA Leads,] playtesting of the game was thoughtful and his recorded sounds were all winners. I think we just had a really good combination of folks forHear Say and we had fun making the game. - Bruno
What was one challenge you had to overcome during production?
One of the hardest nuts to crack were the final round clips. We wanted them to be a fun video backdrop for the player\'s individual sounds to make sense coming together, be surprising even as theyd already been replayed, yet still feel like their own. From old movie scenes to original trailers or commercial shorts, we tried a lot of things. We needed to build a modular film editing pipeline from scratch on top of a game relying on the nuances of microphone input, both of which we hadnt done before. Landing on little bite sized narratives with the right mix of surreal and relatable took curation with a lot of iteration between 3 different departments. - Alina
I wanted the environment to feel more immersive, like entering a mysterious tunnel inside a TV. Weve done similar things before with video but I wanted to make it more dynamic and lively so I asked Michael (our gameplay engineer) to help me make it real. We made a series of randomized panels that cycle through back and forth creating the illusion of motion in three dimensions. It took some elbow grease to make it work but we did! - Bruno
Theinfinitely-zooming panels might just be the most difficult set of animations Ive worked on. Lots of considerations with aesthetics but also with performance. They look really good though! - Michael
What were you inspired by while designing the look and music for Hear Say?
We knew wed be combining very different kinds of media between different player sound performance to different visual sources. A visual and sound personality that could both unify and harmonize it, while always spotlighting our players was important to me. Things like the 90s MTV idents were a nice inspiration for our tv world and how we framed things together - Alina
The main inspiration for the art was poster design from the 60s and 70s. Specifically Cuban movie posters, or American designers like Milton Glaser. They had this loose and playful feel to them. I think a reaction to more traditional realistic illustrations from the time that people would have seen everywhere. I also looked at odd musical instruments and devices as well as sciency visual representations of waveforms. - Bruno
What is your favorite part of Hear Say?
So much of it brings up joy in different ways that its really hard to say. Im proudest of the final round because it felt like the biggest challenge. But right now after spending months on hundreds of video files, my favorite parts to watch and play are the lobby and the blooper reel, the bookends outside the game. People making conversation in unexpected ways through the game; rerecording avatar sounds responding to each other, then nagging or highlighting each other with particular replays of their performances at the end, that really makes me happy - Alina
Art-wise maybe the game font, called Meltaface. It was the first time I tried creating a complete font and it was a somewhat difficult but rewarding process. Im happy with the end result and I think it fits the game well, sometimes it is hard to find an existing font that does that.\nHere aresome fun hidden symbols I made for the font. - Bruno
Any fun glitches or unexpected gameplay moments that happened during production and testing?
One time we had a playtester dive face first into a bean bag so others wouldnt hear him recording. Another time at a DePaul campus playtest, one of the students recorded hiding behind a projector screen. A friend recorded their cats sounds, and stole a round with just that. Then there was that bug when I was trying to trigger specific prompts and got stuck staring into the beauty of ourendlessly looping tunnel instead. - Alina
Just recently we finished a playtest and were trying to get notes on the prompts people saw. But any time someone tried giving their feedback, players would play a blooper video of an explosion with the sound of a wet fart. We never got to the notes. - Michael
What has been your favorite memory of making Hear Say?
My favorite memory is seeing one of our senior producers muted on camera, making silly faces and secret hand gestures with his son to record sounds together, and win the game. Having someone whod actively participated since our earliest tests stating he knew hed never be good at it, now be celebrated in-game while sharing this personal moment with his family and the teamabsolutely golden. - Alina
Playing the game during our PAX West panel with a huge audience all playing the intermission games. Absolute pandemonium. - Michael

Imagine a world of humble knights, roguish rogues, and valiant heroes Now imagine them at your local trivia night Thats Legends of Trivia!
Jackboxs next trivia game is cooperative and inspired by RPGs. And like the trivia-defeating team youll find in the game, we had an amazing team come together to work on the project. Read below to learn more about what went into makingLegends of Trivia.
Please introduce yourself and your role onLegends of Trivia.
Hi! Im Nate Sandberg, the Audio Lead and one of the people who make the original concept pitch for Legends of Trivia! - Nate\n\nHi! Im C.J. Tuor, the Editorial Lead and one of the people who created the original concept and pitch for Legends of Trivia - Nate
Hi! Im Warren Arnold, the Director for Legends of Trivia.
How did you come up with the idea forLegends of Trivia?
I play a lot of tabletop RPGs with friends, and Im sometimes a little frustrated with the randomness of dice. Like Im a legendary Yuan-Ti Sorcerer and I just entirely miss with my firebolt because I rolled a 2?! Ridiculous. So I always thought that a skill based test for success would be fun to try. Thats when I came up with the idea of using trivia questions instead of dice! Turns out Hector had already thought of this idea and pitched it at Jackbox years before haha! So I worked with him and a bunch of other team members to put together the final pitch version of this game. -Nate
Do you have any fun stories from makingLegends of Trivia?
The first appearance of the Ogre in a company play test was really great. Up to that point, players faced the same monster design over and over as we uploaded new assets and refined the mechanics. There was such glee when he came riding in and asked his questions in his unique Ogre tone. - Warren
What makes theLegends of Trivia dev team so special?
Everybody on the team was dedicated to making this game as special as possible. Everyone had such great ideas for bringing this world to life. The dev team did a great job of taking all of those ideas and making them work with the confines of a trivia game. - Warren
What was one challenge you had to overcome during production?
The biggest hurdle was the overall balance of the game. We were merging answering trivia and fighting monsters and those two concepts can sometimes butt heads. What we tried to focus on were trivia types that required everybody to work together but also didnt outstay their welcome. - Warren
What were you inspired by while designing the look and music forLegends of Trivia?
I always try to mash together a few different inspirations when Im working on new music for a game. For LoT, I listened to the soundtrack from the original Final Fantasy for NES. Its amazing. I also listened to the music fromMonty Python and the Holy Grail. This was a great reference for the bard songs as well a big orchestral fantasy sound. And I listened to a lot of Medieval and Georgian Polyphony. I find this kind of music so beautiful and I definitely wanted to reference it in this game. -Nate
What is your favorite part ofLegends of Trivia?
The ending. We knew what we wanted to do very early in production and I think it turned out great. I cant share footage because that would spoil the fun! - Warren\n
Any fun glitches or unexpected gameplay moments that happened during production and testing?
Image trivia started out as the way you revived yourself from death. Players hated it but I really liked the mechanic. It felt like you entered another game and most players just wanted to get back in. So, we made an Image Trivia category and found that it worked immediately. - Warren
What has been your favorite memory of makingLegends of Trivia?
I had a great time at our recording sessions with Austin Packard \\[who plays the host in Legends of Trivia]. He not only did an amazing job with the voice over for the game, but he also had to sing a bunch of songs! And the music I wrote is pretty tricky in spots, but he absolutely nailed it! -Nate
My wife had a baby during development and if you buy the game, well be able to feed her! -C.J.
Honestly, the last part of production because the full vision came together. It was so cool to watch people play and enjoy something that had been in our heads and hearts for months - Warren

Please introduce yourself and your role onSuspectives.
I\'m Tim Sniffen, the director ofSuspectives! Or rather, the Suspector.
Hi! Im Ryan McGill, jackbox.tv engineer forSuspectives in The Jackbox Party Pack 11.
Hello! Im Liz Anderson, writer and editorial lead forSuspectives!\nHowdy! Im Lev Cantoral, lead artist onSuspectives!
How did you come up with the idea forSuspectives?
The core idea behindSuspectives, \"survey answers become evidence\", had been floating around the Jackbox halls for the last year or so. But this year it jelled together in a way that had people excited to build out the mechanic into a complete game. - Tim\n\n
What makes the Suspectives dev team so special?
Im completely impressed with our teams flexibility. A different pairing of engineers got this game off the ground in the beginning, then swapped with a team that polished the excellent foundation they left. Over that entire time, I never did discover the one team member who was tasked to secretly work against us while trying to avoid suspicion! Isnt that right,Tim? - Ryan\n\nThis was my first outing as an art lead on a game, and I couldnt have asked for a better team to learn the ropes with. Everyone on it is such a master of their craft. I immediately felt I was in great hands with Tim as director. Tim was actually one of the very first people I worked with as a contractor at Jackbox back in 2021 when I made thetrailer forParty Pack 8 , so we have a great rapport. - Lev
What was one challenge you had to overcome during production?
An initial challenge was \"what if people simply lie on the surveys?\" This led to our in-game \"lie detector\" where you have a chance to choose a topic and potentially see what a player answered. If it\'s not in line with what you know about them, or different than what they said during an interrogationyou might just be looking at a criminal.- Tim
A key part of the game loop forSuspectives is the survey of personal information players take at the beginning. These may look simple on the surface, but it actually took us a while to really hone in on what agood survey question looks like. They must:
Be easy to answer quickly
[/*]Be broad enough to not to give anyone away
[/*]Be narrow enough to generate strong opinions
[/*]Generate immediately useful information
[/*]Be entertaining
[/*]
Thats a lot! Our team went through around three rounds of full, top-down overhauls of our content pool. During those overhauls we had to reject somewhere around of all our written content! What remains in-game is the best of the best. That effort was worth it, I think, because our shipped game is more consistent, more juicy, and ultimately more fun. -Liz
What were you inspired by while designing the look and music for Suspectives?
There\'s a real seventies cop show ( laColumbo) and noir feeling about the look, music and dialogue of the game. For a moment like questioning other players, we wanted to keep it light and fun to dig into, and that approach felt like a good match for this mechanic. And our Audio Lead Elise Wattman is a wildly talented jazz musician who was able to coordinate musicians and compose-improvise the smokey jazzy soundtrack. - Tim\n\nThe core components of the look ofSuspectives are classic film noir mixed with the more gritty 70s vibes ofColumbo, all wrapped in a package of cartoon dogs. - Lev
What is your favorite part ofSuspectives?
I love the interrogations and how every player can weigh in. There\'s sometimes a great moment where the subject will slip, maybe say something sketchy and suddenly everyone is hitting their \"deeply suspicious\" emoji you can feel the net closing in on them, true crime style!\n\nAs you fill out the surveys at the beginning of the game, youll see a montage of moody city-scapes. These are all inspired by real-life locations around Chicago where Jackbox is headquartered. In many cases, I took photos of actual street corners around me and used those as direct reference. The vast majority of them were then painted by Charlie Bickett, who I must sing the praises of. So much artistry and care went into each one. Theyre a brief moment of the game, but I think they do a great deal in setting the mood and tone. - Lev
Any fun glitches or unexpected gameplay moments that happened during production and testing?
Weve all seen the prompts so many times, I know so much about my co-workers, that it began to be impossible to accurately playtest because we each KNEW when someone was lying about knowing about the stock market or whatever. Oh, you suddenly know about IPOs now?? SURE. -Liz\n\nSo at one point we decided to make the avatars blink, but while that was in the process of being hooked up (connecting the art in the game to the actual code that makes the art do things), there was a time where we had avatars with no eyes, which was somewhat horrifying. - Lev
What has been your favorite memory of makingSuspectives?
The first day the team playtested with emoji reactions in, everyone went wild spamming them to see the faces squint and jump. Seeing something I had just animated the day before be so immediately engaged with was so fun. - Lev
As director I was worried that taking the surveys at the top of the game would feel slow-going. But when Lev\'s Chicago-inspired artwork was in, Elise\'s music was playing, and Liz\'s easy-weird-interesting survey questions were in the system, that worry went up in smoke. All those elements added up to such a fun way to get pulled into the world of the game. More than once we\'ve said \"I could stay in this moment forever!\" (Seriously: run the game, leave the survey screen up, stare out the window towards that devil-may-care moon over the city skyline, and drink in the vibes.) - Tim

In a moment of brilliance, Kelly Shuda uttered the name Jim Reaper in a meeting and then we jokingly started to spitball on what that character might be like, finally landing on a 90\'s bad boy vibe. From there it started to click how we could approach this wrapper in a fun, accessible Jackboxian way. - Rammel[/p][p align=\"start\"]Early on in production we were ironing out our round structure and trying to formulate a good flow. We just started playtesting and trying a lot of different things, which led us to the second round where you ruin something another player likes or enjoys. It really snapped into place as a way to keep building on the game loop and provided players a more intimate experience. - Pauline[/p][p align=\"start\"][/p][p align=\"start\"]What is your favorite part ofDoominate?[/p][p align=\"start\"]We built a game that puts you in the spotlight and showcases your sense of humor! My favorite part is seeing everyone\'s answers as the scrolls roll down. Hands down. I never not laugh. - Rammel[/p][p align=\"start\"]I end up playing this game alone through the testing process, so my favorite part really is seeing new people play. Every new group seems to think of new, fun ways to ruin the prompts I have been seeing for months. Its such a joy to see people play, and I cant wait for it to be out in the world! -SJ[/p][p align=\"start\"][/p][p align=\"start\"]Any fun glitches or unexpected gameplay moments that happened during production and testing?[/p][p align=\"start\"]\"I was not there that day, but I heard tell of the legend of Shrump Skumpo\" - Rammel[/p][p align=\"start\"]I dont remember any glitches or bugs that were fun, but there was one day Jim came on for a mini tutorial, and he was very shaky. That one made me laugh when I saw it. - SJ[/p][p align=\"start\"][/img]What has been your favorite memory of makingDoominate?[/p][p align=\"start\"]One day, we were brainstorming on the Final Round, and Brooke \\[Breit, Director ofDoominate,] asked, Should we make it good? Someone pointed out that it sounded like she was asking if we should make the game good. We all laughed about it, but then it became a running joke within the team, asking if we should make the game good. - SJ[/p]Doominate is coming toParty Pack 11 on most major platforms, October 23rd! Welcome toCookie Haus! Youve been hired as a cookie decorator for a bakery with an odd sort of clientele. Your job is to decorate cookies to their specifications better than your fellow employees.
Youll be given a cookie to decorate. That cookie might look like a crescent moon, but the customer has asked for it to look like Americas Ugliest Dogs.
Its time to frost. Choose from a variety of colors and frosting sizes. Add some sprinkles for pizazz. Then, give it a title to illustrate your creative vision.
Cookie designs will then be shown in matchups with other bakers. Vote on your favorites, and assign kudos to other bakery masterpieces.
Ready to start your shift? Well, the bakery isnt open just yet. AddThe Jackbox Party Pack 11 to your wishlist on Steam to be first in line at this cursed cookie consortium.
