Starground 0.14 + Game OST Released

[/img]The third automation planet for Starground is here! Opis is a new gas giant planet that players can exploit for new resources and technologies. Expand out your initial platform, collect asteroids, and deal with the dangers of powerful thunderstorms. With a new automation planet comes a whole host of new buildings, and blueprints! This update also comes along with the release of the official soundtrack for Starground! Buying the OST is a way to directly support us and make development of Starground more sustainable.

Whats New

OST Launch

[dynamiclink href="https://store.steampowered.com/app/3735710/Starground_OST/"][/dynamiclink]

The official soundtrack for Starground is finally here! This OST, created by Ben Pittman, starts out with 47 tracks as seen in-game. These span from the calm and lo-fi vibes of automation zones, to the intense and grungy tracks from dungeons. This OST will be continually updated as new tracks are created and put into the game. A bundle with the OST and main game will be ready to go soon!

Buying the OST is entirely optional, and serves as a way to support more development of Starground. We hope you all enjoy it!

Opis

[/img]

Opis is now the third automation planet in Starground. Being a gas giant, there's no physical surface to build on. Instead, players start on a floating platform that they can extend by building more in the Crafter. Opis offers new base materials like gold and hydrogen. It's important to be weary of the environmental hazards on Opis however. Lightning tends to strike often here, so building surge protectors to absorb those zaps will prevent your power networks from shutting down.

New Technology

[/img]

0.14 includes a whole new host of new content! Buildings include:

 • Asteroid Collector

 • Atmosphere Collector

 • Surge Protector

 • Wind Turbine

 • Big Frog Battery

 • V3 Conveyor, Splitter, and Underground Conveyor

There's also brand new items and researches to unlock on Opis as well!

Blueprints

[/img]

Blueprints are finally here in Starground! This feature lets you copy buildings in a selectable area to be placed down later in any save. The ability to create new blueprints is unlocked on Opis, but you can access and place existing ones anytime in the blueprint menu (G on keyboard).

Blueprints can be saved, which ensures they stay around even when you close out of the game. Blueprints can also be imported/exported as text, in order to make sharing blueprints with others extremely easy.

QOL Improvements

[/img]

It was always a bit tricky to see what items did what, and what ingredients buildings required, etc. In 0.14, all building, item, and recipe icons now show a more detailed list when hovered over. Planets in the Starlauncher also have received the same treatment, now outlining much more information about them than before.

More QOL features, including quick grabbing items from buildings, and shift + left/right clicking buildings to copy and paste recipes will be coming very soon!

Thats all for this update, with some left out features coming very soon. Be on the lookout for upcoming announcements on Steam, and for our 0.15 plans!

If you run into any problems, please report them on the Steam forums, or over on Discord. Enjoy!

Starground 0.14.0.0-ex2 Released

This is the first "real" release of an experimental build for Opis! (the first one being for bugfixes) This update includes a ton of things, mostly focusing on automation, general stability, and QOL.

Many of these changes were merged into the main branch in order to fix multiplayer issues, however they'll be reported on alongside these experimental releases and eventually the full release of 0.14.

Let me know on Discord or on Steam Forums how things are feeling balance-wise. I will continue to tweak things, add new buildings, and get this update ready for the 14th.

Starground v0.13 Released

A brand new dungeon makes its entrance to Starground! In this update, Finders Keepers, players can now explore Tephra, an abandoned planet infested with insects. Alongside the new zone, there's now a whole bunch of added weapon parts, artifacts, enemies, rooms, and more!

Whats New

Tephra

Tephra is a brand new dungeon in Starground! Unlike the lab on Enceladus, Tephra is an entirely new planet that can be completed simultaneously as Enceladus (on multiplayer). As with any new region, this comes alongside a ton of new content, including:
 • Calorus, a brand new boss
 • 5 new enemies to battle
 • New combat rooms
 • New ranged and melee parts
 • New artifacts
This dungeon is the second of the final 4 dungeons planned. As time goes on, new levels will be added onto Tephra (just like the lab on Enceladus). Coming regular updates will continue to add and improve content for Tephra.

Updated Dungeon Visuals

Dungeons in Starground now look better than ever! This update includes some fancy new shaders that procedurally add in moss and dust, alongside new on-screen effects (can be disabled in accessibility settings). These really help liven up the look of dungeons, and ultimately build toward our ultimate vision for how Starground looks.

Puzzle Room

This update also introduces a new type of special dungeon room; puzzle rooms. Dungeons can now contain a new room that requires the correct sequence of buttons to be pressed in order to unlock a vault with powerful loot. As time goes on, we'll have more variety of what kind of puzzles players can solve. To solve them (can kind of ruin the fun if you know how):
Dungeons now spawn in with numbers and symbols that are randomly scattered around, which will tell you what order to press them in.
New Skins

This update also comes along with some new skins! 3 new "default" skins have been added to form the canon gang of Stargrounders. This includes Guy (default skin), Prichard, Darius, and Sandy. These characters will continue to make appearances in official artwork and other Starground-related things. Players can now also play as the Lefty skin, based on our publisher Graeme (thanks Graeme!), and a skin from the main character Cyl in the game Picayune Dreams. Huge thanks to its developers, and be sure to check it out! Thats all for this update gamers! Next up is a brand new automation planet!

If you run into any problems, please report them on the Steam forums, or over on Discord. Enjoy!

Starground v0.12.1.0 Released

We at Big Boy Games have finally decided to sell out!

You can expect all sorts of awesome microtransactions and expensive DLC goodies coming soon to a Starground near you! This update starts us out with:

Battle Pass

Our first new feature to start off building the Big Boy Marketplace is the Battle Pass! This lets you unlock a bunch of new skins (more on that below), and includes some premium items that require the "purchase" of Premium.

Radical Skating

Skateboarding in Starground is as gnarbuckle as ever broski! Skating scores and effects are active during April Fools', and can be permanently activated by holding the License To Skill artifact in your inventory (can be acquired from Toby Hawk by doing a sick trick for him).

Character Skins (not a joke actually)

Players can now select a skin from the main menu under the new Character Customization menu. There are currently 14 new skins to choose from, with 6 of those being unlocked through the totally real battle pass. These skins will sync with multiplayer, and unlocks are persistent across games. In the near future, functionality will be added to allow players to upload their own skins, and have them sync on multiplayer (like Minecraft). (And some real talk, there's no plan to ever monetize skins (or anything), but keep it completely free and unlockable in-game).

April Fools' content is only active for today, but can be accessed again by setting your clock.

We'll see you all in 2027 with the release of Starground: The Movie, starring Jack Black as John Starground

This is of course all an April Fools' joke by the way, incase it wasn't obvious except for the skin stuff, that's like real feature

Starground v0.12.0.1 Released

A small content/bugfix update for 0.12 is here!

This small Starground update addresses many different issues that were caused by the release of 0.12. In addition, guns have been rebalanced to disallow certain overpowered configurations and Diadematuses (the spider guys) are a little more fair now. This update also sees the addition of the Gas Mask artifact (prevents poison damage) and the Challenge Room in the dungeons. This room is a wave-based room that will reward players who can defeat the onslaught of enemies. If any other issues come up, please let me know on the Steam forums, or over on the Discord server. Thanks everyone!

Full Changelog

Additions

 • Added in a warning message in the tool bench for when a ranged weapon configuration is invalid
 • Added in a wave-based challenge room to the dungeons

 • Made it so bullets only collide with the top of dungeon walls
 • Made it so poison clouds spawned by the Diadematus are half size
 • Decreased the Diadematus poison cloud range
 • Updated all translations

Fixes

 • Fixed an issue where the dungeon fishing room did not appear on multiplayer
 • Fixed an issue where the Antoid Husk did not appear on multiplayer
 • Fixed an issue where the Moleshroom did not appear on multiplayer
 • Fixed an issue where the Peckii did not appear on multiplayer

Starground v0.12 Released

Starground's fourth major update is here! This update is all about enhancing the current dungeon, and making each run as unique and interesting as possible. New enemies, new rooms, and ranged weapons all add in new things to do and explore in the dungeon!

Whats New

Ranged Weapons

Ranged weapons are finally here in Starground! Ranged weapons can be built in the tool bench under the new "Ranged" tab, and can be brought into dungeons alongside a melee weapon. Ranged weapons open up new possibilities for enemies, more support-centric combat styles, and more reasons to find new parts. Ranged weapons are built out of four kinds of parts, each with their own stats. This update starts us out with 4 core parts (modulating the effect of the weapon), and 7 other supporting parts. Gun parts can also be purchased from Bissala in the Space Hub. These mechanics opens up a whole new world of combat, and will be continually balanced post-update.

New Enemies

3 brand new enemies have been added into the dungeon to spice up gameplay and make combat much more interesting, instead of just "walk and hold left click". These include:
 • Antoid Husk, a basic shambler enemy that will eventually be moved to a new zone (next update)
 • Moleshroom, a ranged enemy that pops up from underground in random spots in the room.
 • Peckii, a flying mosquito enemy that will circle around you, applying regeneration to other enemies.

New Rooms

Dungeons now have new rooms to explore! Dungeons will have a bit more variety now, including a fishing room. New dungeon-specific fish will be introduced in coming updates. That's all for right now! Our next couple of smaller updates will add in some content that didn't quite make it into this version, and address any balancing issues with ranged weapons.

If you run into any problems, please report them on the Steam forums, or over on Discord. Enjoy!

Additions

 • Added a starting room for dungeons

WHAT IS STARGROUND?

Starground is a top-down automation dungeon crawler combo. Alternate between gathering and refining resources on your home planet, and venturing across space to fight through action roguelite-inspired dungeons. How you split your time is entirely up to you! There's no right way to play the game, and any path will progress the story.

MULTIPLAYER

Starground was built up with multiplayer from the beginning. Experience what Starground has to offer as a full co-operative experience with as many friends as you'd like. Invite your friends to work towards common goals, or divide and conquer each part of the game. If multiplayer isn't your thing though, you can play alone in single player too!

AUTOMATION

Develop and maximize an island of resources through automation. Work your way through a research tree filled with all sorts of unique machines and solutions to your logistical needs. Start humble by mining resources by hand and smelting manually, but soon build up to a formidable factory that can tackle anything you can throw at it.

DUNGEONS

If you're not into automation, or need to wait for your factory, then venture to other places in the solar system to explore and crawl your way through a variety of dungeons. Battle enemies, avoid obstacles, kill bosses, and reap the rewards of your effort. Take resources from dungeons back to your factory, or use rare loot to make yourself stronger and craft modular weapons. Make a spear, dual-bladed sword, or maybe a gun on a stick. The choice is yours.

Be sure to add Starground to your Wishlist!
