Eugene is the quiet type who keeps his distance from most people, except for his partners in crime of course. Bibis the self-absorbed chick youll never see without her flip phone glued to her hand. And Miklos? Well, hes the gentle giant who tries to look tough behind his red sunglasses, but deep down hes got the kindest soul of the trio.
The three have been inseparable since kindergarten, ever since they realized they shared the same strange sense of humor and a love for the mysterious aesthetic. These days, youll mostly see them standing in a circle somewhere, looking like theyre plotting something, but most likely theyre just discussing whos the coolest or other teenage stuff, like investment plans.
Each of them has their own little bubble they live in. Eugene usually hangs in some city corner, talking about the bizarre things hes seen. Bibis too busy texting to notice much else than what the person on the other end of her conversation says. Miklos is doing his best to act more mature, mostly because his mother told him to.
Most townsfolk dont really get them, which is exactly how they like it. People leave them alone to do their thing. But with their mysterious behaviour, theyve caught the attention of Bennies curious nature, making them persons of interest. Maybe Bennies the one to break through their wall of coolness

On a cold winters night
Every house was warm and bright
Not a single soul could be sad
Because all felt gratitude for the year theyd had
This year has truly been one to remember for us in the team. Weve been challenged in so many ways, and although its been tough, we are incredibly grateful for every single person who has supported us along the way. To celebrate the end of this amazing year, we wanted to give you guys a special moment with Bennie. Heres a small Christmas story we call The last Advent Sunday in Larcenest Gap.\n
Bennie, who was sound asleep, woke abruptly to the sound of jingle bells outside of his window. He flew out of his bed, opening his curtains to see what was going on. The darkness was still covering the city, but something in town made it shine as if it was a bright sunny day. A group of people had gathered in the city and were in full swing decorating lampposts, facades, and benches with lights, glitter and giant bells. Someone was hosing down the city square with water, creating a mirror-like surface around the statue of the Mayor. An ice-skating rink was taking shape, and while the others finished up the last decorations, the town started to wake up. People gathered around, ice skating and singing carols together.
Bennie, whose nose had been glued to the frosty window for far too long now, finally broke loose from his trance, quickly getting dressed and joining the others outside. Sir Sugarbeard had brought everyone hot chocolate and candy canes, and people were making garlands out of the small, fluffy white clouds the popcorn machine was joyfully spitting out. As Bennie held a warming cup of chocolate, he gazed above the Christmas lights, into the starry sky. For a moment, he thought he saw a shooting star. But it got bigger and bigger Until he saw it falling straight towards the North Woods!
Bennie set off towards the wooded area with his camera in a tight grip. This mysterious crash could be the story of the year, he thought, while hastily zigzagging between the trees, scanning for signs of this mystery.
He suddenly spotted a bright shimmer, coming off of one of the trails. He slowly approached the light, readying his camera. What he caught on camera must have been the truest Christmas miracle Bennie had ever seen
To see what Bennie found watch the GIF below.

From the team of Nothing Strange Here, we wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year!
\n
In a strange little town, a big mystery is being brought to light
The excitement to unravel it is what shines most bright
Some will hurry by, without noticing a lot
But the one smelling the roses might find details only the sharpest eyes will spot \n
In Sweden, we celebrate the Lucia Day on the 13th. As Lucia shines with lights in her hair, we wanted to shed some of that light on the smaller things. Many players might miss them, but we hope they help make the world feel more alive for those who discover them.\n
There are a lot of details hiding in plain sight all over Larcenest Gap. Most details have a story behind them, but very few are explained outright. This is because we want each player to form their own interpretation based on what they notice, big or small.\n
If you haven\'t yet stopped to smell the roses, take a moment to explore the calmer side of Larcenest Gap. You might stumble upon something you havent seen before\n
Next Advent Sunday will be the last for this year. You dont want to miss our special guest, whos making a short visit in Larcenest Gap!
While the snow is falling down
There are no faces with a frown
Suddenly someone shows up, looking like a clown!
Could there be a mystery in this town? \n
This rhyme might not make sense now, but consider it a tiny hint The team is working on bringing several new areas of the game to life, but for now, we wanted to share an update about a specific area we are wrapping up right now\n
As Christmas is getting closer, so is the finish line for The West Woods. Compared to the North Woods, this area is a protected nature reserve and home to endangered species, calming streams, and beautiful nature views.
And, of course, there will be a few strange things waiting to be found too.\n
The West Woods will be part of an area that will be unlockable with the main story questline. The area will offer three new quests, several new NPCs, and main story progression. On top of that, youll be able to collect several new stickers by photographing special things in the area. \n
We still have a lot of work left, but we hope youll stay with us and uncover all the mysteries hiding in Larcenest Gap!
The First Advent Sunday is finally here
Which means the Christmas season is near
While the team is taking a well-deserved nap
I wanted to give you guys a little recap
OK, the rhymes ran out, so Ill just let that be for now
Some of you might not know, but the whole team met during our studies at university.
We started working on Nothing Strange Here during our last year of university, but before that, some of us had made two other projects together (which both can be played for free on Steam ).
The game idea was actually created as a way for us to pass our internship course. No one in our team got an actual internship at a real game company, and our school allowed us to act as if we had our own studio, developing our own project. So thats what we did!
This meant that several team members had to take on more responsibility and learn new roles to cover all disciplines in a game dev team. Over time, people grew into their roles more and more, and when the course ended, we felt confident that we had a team that could continue developing this idea into a full game on our own.
This weekend, weve had the honor of sharing a booth at Dreamhack alongside some great people weve gotten to know over the past months. Today was the last day of a hectic 3-day event that we look back on with gratitude!
As the first candle of Advent is lit, were feeling grateful for how far weve come and excited for whats ahead. Our journey has been bumpy (and still is!), but were determined to make this game a great experience for everyone who plays it. We hope you want to follow and support our journey all the way to the full release of Nothing Strange Here!

Meet Gertrude Marshall A spunky old lady with bubble gum colored hair.
As the mother of the current town mayor and wife of the previous one, Gertrude has lived most of her life in luxury. However, it hasnt always been that way for sweet little Gertrude. As she grew up, her family lived paycheck to paycheck leaving no room for a lavish life. Gertrude met her husband Conrad at a young age and they fell deeply in love. Since that day, she never had to worry about money. Although she tried to stay true to her humble beginnings, she did enjoy being spoiled from time to time.
Gertrude is a chatty lady. She loves to reminisce about the good old days, however, since she lost her love shes been feeling quite lonely. The only family she has left is her son, mayor Steppington Marshall. His job is to look out not only for his mother, but every citizen in town. Gertrude, as the sweet and understanding lady she is, knows his duty and doesnt blame him for not visiting more often. She knows his work is for the greater good, even if it means shell be lonelier.
To pass her time, Gertrude mostly hangs around outside her house at the edge of town, gazing into the wondrous woods. Occasionally, someone will stop for a quick chat with her, but then continue on with their day, leaving Gertrude to entertain herself with daydreaming. She often thinks of the stories she heard about, but never had proof that they were true.
If Bennie stopped for a chat with Gertrude, what story do you think shed share with him?

Lurchbert has been around for some time. As one of the older people in town, he knows most of the people. Not personally, but by their late relatives who rest in the cemetery that he maintains.
From childhood, Lurchbert was surrounded by death. His parents before him, took care of the cemetery in Larcenest Gap. They were charming people with lots of positivity, despite their profession. This rubbed off on little Lurchbert, who started to see the beauty in what once was. Although his enthusiasm for the cemetery grew, people around town didnt feel the same about the place. People didnt really understand Lurchbert\'s peculiar thinking, and most of them started to distance themselves from him.
On his 20th birthday, Lurchbert took over the responsibility of the cemetery, allowing his parents to retire. Ever since, hes been living at the edge of the cemetery, only leaving it for essential errands. He loves nothing in this world more than this little spot, and his final wish is to be buried right beside his parents, in the family crypt, so he can watch over the cemetery for all eternity.
For a long time, Lurchbert has tried to bring people to the cemetery. His pleading however, seems to only scare people even more. His motivation to keep the cemetery presentable has gone with the visitors. He doesn\'t believe he will be able to bring life back to this once serene place that people visited to remember their lost folks.
As an involuntary loner, Lurchbert is thrilled when Bennie visits the cemetery. After talking to nonresponsive creatures for a long time, its nice to talk to someone alive for a change. Maybe this little journalist will save Lurchbert and the cemetery from demise?
What do you think Bennie could do to help Lurchbert out?

Welcome to Larcenest Gap! The town with that little extra sparkle.
Nominated Happiest Town in 1765, the town of Larcenest Gap is located in a secluded spot surrounded by mountains. Unfortunately, cartographers through the decades have overlooked this hidden gem, forgetting to put it on any map, which makes finding the place even more of an adventure.
This town oozes with history. Not many know of this, but the town mayor, Steppington Marshall descends from the town founder himself. Decades ago, the previous mayor, Conrad Marshall, found an old journal in a hidden hatch of the town hall, telling parts of the story about the first settlers in Larcenest Gap. The year was 1764. The sun had shone strongly for a week straight, uncovering the mountain valleys from snow and welcomed the spring flowers. A group of men, looking for fertile soil, wandered through a ravine to discover a beautiful view upon a grand valley, glowing with potential. They quickly settled down in this valley, and the rest of the history is lost in the torn out pages of the journal.
Despite its secluded location, the town has kept up with the trends outside of their little society, with some exceptions. Although 2-wheeled motor vehicles are being sold inside the town, no cars are allowed within the town walls. Since it would be impossible to drive a car up the steep stairs into town, everyone agreed to ban it, just to keep Moped Mike from making it a challenge
When Bennie arrives in town, everything seems as normal as any other place. Larcenest Gap is in general described as a quiet town with nothing really going on. But as soon as Bennie starts to explore it in detail, he realizes that this place has more than quirky characters and everyday routines.
What secrets do you think lie hidden behind Larcenest Gaps quiet facade?

Meet uncle Barnie A man who easily could be mistaken for a mountain, but separates himself from the rest by wearing a bright pink tie.
Barnie Bernstein is the last blood relative of Bennie Bernstein. As the editor in chief at the local newspaper, the Bulletin, he is the one bringing people their daily news.
Barnie has spent all his life in the town of Larcenest Gap, convinced there couldnt be any better place on earth. Pumpkin pies, lemon tea, crossword puzzles, his familyEverything gathered in one great place. In an attempt to broaden his horizon, Barnie once tried to go on vacation to a nearby city, but cut the visit short because he got homesick. Barnie really felt he had it all right there, in Larcenest Gap. But nothing lasts forever
One day, out of the blue, his sister told him she was leaving town and wanted the family to join her. Barnie was devastated, asking her why she would want to leave. Her answer was short. She just needed to leave and never come back. Barnie, however, stood his ground and stayed in Larcenest Gap, watching his whole family drive off. He thought to himself that they would come back sooner or later But they never did.
To deal with his loneliness, Barnie buried himself in work. He stayed in the office for a full week until he realized how he reeked. On his way home to clean himself up, even though looking like Bigfoot with his unshaved beard, people still stopped him to say how much they enjoyed his news. That was the moment Barnie realized that he was never alone. He had a whole town to care about.
With his rough exterior protecting the much softer interior, Barnie is best described as a gentle giant. His kind nature is what makes him care so deeply about Bennie, even though they had never met in person before this. What Barnie never expected, however, is just how much more important Bennie would become to him
Barnie has been the towns trusted informant for years. Do you think Bennie can fit into his uncles giant shoes? Let us know in the comments!

With a passion for storytelling, Bennie Bernstein knew from a young age that he wanted to be an investigative journalist. Now, fresh from school, hes ready to uncover (and cover) every hidden gem that holds a story just waiting to be told. With his trusted camera always at hand and a journal full of scribbled headlines, hes ready to immortalize every unexpected event he stumbles upon.
A recent family tragedy has left Bennie heart-broken and alone. But when a letter from his uncle Barnie arrives, everything seems to change. His uncle lives in Larcenest Gap, a small town tucked away deep in the wilderness. Its a place Bennie has only heard whispers about in passing. In the letter, Barnie offers him a fresh start and a job as an investigative journalist at the local newspaper in town. Despite knowing almost nothing about the town, Bennie seizes the chance and sets off for this unknown place.
The job offers Bennie both a distraction and a chance to move forward. Even so, it gives him that family connection hes missing, since his uncle is the only Bernstein left other than himself.
Bennie is the quiet type, but he has a lovable charisma that makes people open up to him. And dont let the red apple cap fool you. Bennies sharper than he looks. Behind his calm smile, he hides a curiosity that can sniff out the most hidden mysteries that\'ve been buried and forgotten for decades.
Although he doesnt know it quite yet, the town of Larcenest Gap hides stories more mysterious than any article has ever captured before. With each clue, Bennie will find himself deeper and deeper into a mystery that blurs the line between journalist and detective.
Every mystery has a beginning. If you were in Bennies shoes, would you start your investigation with the people or the secrets hiding in the town itself?

Weve had a lot of questions during the last playtest that sounded something like:
Wait what is this music???\n Why does this track go so hard for a cozy mystery game?\n Where can I listen to this??
Well, good news the Nothing Strange Here Demo Soundtrack is now live on YouTube!\n Listen here
Our extremely talented composer Petri is absolutely bringing the vibe to this world.\nIts a mix of cozy confusion, suspicious melodies, and tunes perfect for tiptoeing through small-town mysteries. Throw it on while writing strange articles, organizing your journal, or wondering if that nice librarian is hiding something.
Thanks for Playtest #3
Huge thanks to everyone who joined our latest playtest this weekend!\nYou explored, bug hunted, and dove headfirst into the weird corners of Larcenest Gap and your feedback is already helping us smooth out the rough bits and turn up the strange in all the right ways.
Your thoughts help us polish the weird, fix the broken, and double down on whats working.\n (Also, we heard you loud and clear: more cats.)\n Can you pet that dawg? \n No but you can pet the cats.
More updates (and areas to explore) are coming soon.\nUntil then, enjoy the music, stay curious, and keep it strange.

August 1517
16:00 CEST to 00:00 PT / 09:00 CEST
Were finally back from summer vacation slightly sunburned, slightly bug-bitten, and definitely a little stranger than before. Turns out real life has its own bugs and a world just as weird as the one were building.
But were back in Larcenest Gap now and so are you.
What are we testing in Playtest #3:
Controller Support
[/*]
You can now play with a controller! Its still a work-in-progress (menus might act up), but its mostly functional. Let us know how it feels.Voice Acting for Most Characters
[/*]
Many of the towns residents now speak some warmly, some suspiciously, some... unsettlingly calm. Voices are in and being tweaked, but already in-game.Tutorial Quest Dialogue & Environmental Outcomes
[/*]
Weve updated the tutorial quest with more branching outcomes and responsive world events. Your choices echo a little louder now.Bug Fixes (Both Kinds)
[/*]
We squashed plenty of in-game bugs and a few that bit us outdoors. More will surely emerge. You know the drill.
About the Camera
Were still working on improving the camera.
Some players in previous playtests reported motion sickness, which is absolutely not the kind of sick experience were aiming for.
Our goal is for Nothing Strange Here to be sick and fun not the kind that makes you queasy. Were actively adjusting movement and camera smoothing to keep things cozy, not dizzy.
Please let us know if youre still feeling woozy this time around. Your feedback helps us get it right.
Why This Test Matters:
This round focuses on feel how the game sounds, controls, and reacts. Voice acting, input systems, and consequence feedback are all crucial as we move toward full demo release.
Your thoughts will help us shape a more expressive, cozy, and uncanny experience.
