What does it mean to be a magical girl?
This is the question at the heart of Lock and Key, a magical mystery visual novel set in a world shaped by your interpretation of the magical girl genre.
Sherri and Kealey Cohen, now a married couple in their late 20s, left the title of magical girls behind them over a decade ago. Now on the verge of losing their powers and entering a life of true normalcy, a string of unexplainable murders forces them to come out of retirement for one last adventure. Together with Nina, their old friend, and Ruby, a new protégé, Sherri and Kealey will have to face a mystery connected both to their past and future. In the world of Lock and Key, the player shapes their path... and more importantly, determines where that path will end.
Since this is a visual novel, you the reader are in control! The decisions you make in-game will determine the outcome of the story, and the fates of the characters in it.

Lock & Key is getting an art upgrade! The main artist, milkgrrl, is redoing some of the artwork to make it more stylized and expressive. Most of these artwork upgrades are finished and we've shown off some of them before on our Patreon and Discord server , so today we're compiling a lot of the new artwork into one post.
For reference, this is what the old character sprite art looks like in the current demo.
We also have some casual outfits for the girls!
And we also have some new screenshots with these sprites and an updated GUI!
This updated artwork will be available in a new demo coming out in around a month. It'll be the same as the current demo on here on Steam, just with updated visuals, so if you want to see more about the story & characters then go ahead and give it a try!
If you want to see more posts about Lock & Key, we have an entire collection of them on Patreon , including updates and process posts.
We're still planning on a Kickstarter for Lock & Key Kickstarter for the end of the year, which will allow us to offset some of the costs from production as well as give you the chance to get merch such as physical PC copies, keychains, etc. and some exclusives!
