ESSOMENIC is a story-driven psychological horror centered around peering into people's minds. What can be found in their memories, and what can you hide in theirs?
Patients on your operating table are loaded into the DREAMCATCHER, a brutish and unconventional machine, in which their memories are projected onto a display. As the Doctor, you can traverse these memories, exploring the dreamscape within, finding out about the patient’s past, about the work they’re doing. When information from your contractor is lacking due to logistics, finding out anything new is welcome.
But reliving these memories puts the patient at great risk. As the patient grows stressed, a crisis arises. Hormonal imbalance, neuronal breakdowns, and unbearable degrees of pain. Your success requires you to keep these patients alive. Tend to the patient’s health through different modules of the DREAMCATCHER.
Too many questions, too little time. The Higher Order Bureau can’t hand you all the information at once. All you know is that, according to them, your work is vital, and that you are in this operating room by your own choice.
Indiscernible mechanisms, things popping in and out of sight, dissonance in the way things are versus the way things should be. There’s something odd about your work, about this place, and about these patients. It's up to you to figure out what that is.
