The Train Goes Right, you know what to do.

Step into the mid-19th century and take on the role of a railway pioneer in Train Goes Right, a casual yet immersive co-op adventure where the train never stops—unless you do! In this charming low-poly world, you’ll build an endless railway, one rail at a time, while operating a faithfully simplified steam train. The primary controls of the locomotive are represented, giving you just the right level of interaction to keep the train moving forward without overwhelming complexity. Whether you prefer to play alone or team up with friends, Train Goes Right offers both local and online co-op so you can lay rail at your own pace. Don’t like trains? That’s fine too—we left you a handcart in the corner.

Key Features:

  • Chop, Haul, Build!
Start by chopping down trees in the forest and hauling the logs back to the train. Exchange the logs for railroad ties and rails at the station.

  • Operate a Steam Train
Experience the challenge and satisfaction of operating a steam locomotive with simplified yet authentic controls. Manage speed, keep the fire stoked, and keep an eye on that water level.

  • Simple, Satisfying Gameplay Loop
Experience the simple joy of chopping, building, and hammering your way to progress. Return to the start of the line to upgrade your supplies and prepare for the next leg of the journey.

  • Detailed Jobs
There are no small jobs on the railroad, and no task is free. Cutting down a tree is only the start; players still need to remove the branches and divide the trunk. Rails need ballast (rocks) laid between the ties, and the firebox must be kept fueled with coal.

  • Work Never Ends
The tracks stretch on forever. How far will you take the train?

In Train Goes Right, it’s not just about keeping the train moving—it’s about finding joy in the work, the progress you've made, and the rolling the stock. Whether you’re driving the train or hammering in the next rail, this laid-back game invites you to celebrate the age of the steam locomotive, one track at a time.

Are you ready to strike that first tie? You know which way to go.

Demo Update - Usability Update 2 - 0.2.10

One more refinement update before we move on to feature improvements.

I noticed there was some confusion regarding how to use the hand tools. The first rail segment now has prompts for setting the rail and driving nails.

You have two hands. You can now carry two spikes at a time.

This update introduces kicking, this should make minor errors in dropped placement a lot less punishing.

There are also a load of little polishing fixes to streamline the experience. Importantly the framerate is now caped by default to 60 fps. This should fix an issue where the game would max out your GPU to achieve 500 fps.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their experience with the demo! I think the improvements are substantial over the initial version and I very much doubt I could have made these corrections without your help.

0.2.10 Patch notes

- First segment construction prompts for all first time actions.

- Ground indictor to improve awareness of where a carried object will drop.

- Ground indicator to improve awareness of where the tool will hit

- Adding unstuck button to handle getting stuck.

- Completed rail segments will no longer straighten ties. Take time to stop and appreciate your wonky tie positions.

- Adds an accessibility setting to disable camera relative movement. Helpful if you find holding two keys to move diagonally difficult. This will make it easier to pull ties into place using one key because you don\'t have to compensate for the isometric perspective.

- Lateral stabilization spring should reduce oscillations in carried object when tapping fine position adjustments

- Kick anything with the kick action. Default binding is spacebar or west gamepad button.

- Increased the respawn zone to twice the max player velocity to hopefully stop the player from teleporting through it.

- Player can now stand in the fire

- Configurable max frame rate with default set to 60 fps. Should cut down on excessive GPU loads under very high framerates.

- Settings menu resolution independent size, fixes high-res displays scaling issue.

- Removed Joystick input support until it can be fully implemented. The hat switch tends to fight for control.

- Fixed jitter on placed ballast

- Achievements are saved locally and will retry the Steam API once unlocked. Consequently I have moved the achievement to the proper location at the end of the map.

- Set initial language from Steam language.

- Handcart makes click-clack sounds.

- Smoother camera tracking hand cart at full speed.

- Friction coefficient tuning to make dragging objects over various surfaces feel more consistent.

Demo Update - Usability Update 0.2.9 - Quick Fix

Just a quick update to correct a soft lock where the hammer is permanently destroyed.

- Dropping the axe on the return animation will no longer destroy the axe.

- Dropping equipment is now consistent with dropping railroad components. Primary action will drop equipment when it\'s hanging by your side. Not obvious there is a dedicated drop button.

Demo Update - Usability Update 0.2.8

Thanks to your feedback, I\'ve been able to address some the biggest issues making it needlessly hard to play the demo.

By far the biggest issue was the double spike placement on the second segment. Logically, you\'d want to nail down the start of the rail, but we already put down a nail there on the previous segment. This was completely unintuitive. This change should go a long way to reducing confusion for new players.

- Removed the double spike placement

- Holding down the button when swinging the hammer will automatically start the next swing

- Hitting objects with tools gives feedback

- Improved throwing consistency and control, still room for improvement

- Stakes can be thrown into place.

- The axe will unstuck itself when embed out of reach.

- Pause menu back navigation will resume time

- Prevent grabbing axe while grabbing barrel

- Player won\'t be pushed by hand cart while standing on hand cart.

- Handcart is mostly glued to the tracks for now to cut down on the physics glitching insanity.

- Various gamepad binding fixes

- Fix jitter in swinging animation

- Focusing a snapping railroad component no longer causes the focus to stick to the snapped component.

- Add input prompt to first tie

The next update will address quality of life issues including holding multiple spikes and more easily nudging placement.

There is an out of bounds bug I haven\'t been able to replicate. If you have detailed information on how to get stuck out of bounds I\'d love to hear form you.

Thanks

Josh

Train Goes Right - Demo

Train Goes Right - Demo Launched

For better or worse.\n

The Train Goes Right demo is now available! After a number of rapid hotfixes, the version is now 0.2.6. Please continue to let me know if you encounter issues.

First of all, thank you to everyone who has played! I know it\'s been a struggle. The achievement is working again, and I moved the trigger to the first built segment. It will move back to the end of the level at some point, but it\'s my apology to anyone Ive tortured. If you havent played yet, get your easy achievement while it lasts!

Short Term Goals

  • The first issue Ill be addressing is the strict build order. Its intuitive to keep pulling ties and the game should recognize building rail in any order.

    [/*]
  • You should be able to hold more than one spike at a time. Shuffling back and forth from the barrel is not fun.

    [/*]
  • Nudging, its not fun picking up ties to make a minute adjustment. Were going to kick it.

    [/*]

Mid-Term Goals

  • The hand cart is a nightmare. It got neglected because it wasnt part of the building track experience but was obviously the thing players wanted to try.

    [/*]

Long-Term Goals

  • The demo will be getting a premise and an objective. Youve inherited a run-down rail depot and its your job to rebuild it back to working condition. Clear debris, fix track, put the wheels back on the old hand cart.

    [/*]

Honest Assessment

I need to be transparent, the demo has shown Im nowhere near as far along as I should be at this point. Going back to refine the demo is necessary but it was not on my timeline. For that reason I must delay the release. I cannot in good conscious ask anyone to pay for an incomplete game.
