Black Equation is a dark fantasy interactive book — a text-based narrative game where every word matters, and every silence has meaning.
This story was written during a period of deep depression, not as a product, but as a way to stay connected to the world. When social networks felt empty and unreachable, writing became the only language left — a way to speak honestly, quietly, and without masks. Black Equation is that conversation, transformed into a world you can enter.
There are no images here. No fast action. Only text, atmosphere, and choices that slowly shape what you are allowed to see — and what remains hidden.
About the Story
In the medieval kingdom of Highgard, the greatest threat is not monsters or ancient curses, but the king himself.
A ruler who despises his own people dares to challenge fate, defy the gods, and sacrifice what is most precious to him.
His goal is not salvation, but erasure — to destroy Highgard and seize the neighboring throne of Valtoria, ruled by his own nephew.
As magic spreads like a slow poison and political intrigue tightens its grip, three lives are drawn into the coming collapse:
Yinyue — an impulsive young mage whose compassion often outweighs caution, willing to burn herself to save others.
William — a restless young man avoiding responsibility, torn between desire and duty, drifting until choice becomes unavoidable.
Charles — a loyal knight divided between honor and truth, quietly searching for love in a world hostile to honesty.
Love, loyalty, betrayal, and forbidden choices intertwine as one question becomes impossible to ignore: what if Highgard’s destruction cannot be stopped — only understood?
Gameplay & Experience
Black Equation is a fully text-based interactive fiction experience. Your choices do not change everything — but they change what is revealed, what remains hidden, and how the world speaks to you.
A pure text-based dark fantasy adventure
Choice-driven narrative with multiple endings
Psychological, emotional, and atmospheric storytelling
A slow, calm reading experience designed for immersion
Hidden paths, unrevealed truths, and endings that cannot be seen in a single playthrough
LGBTQ+ characters and diverse relationships woven naturally into the world
A Personal Work
I am not a large studio, and this is not a polished commercial product. Black Equation is a sincere, personal work — written to survive, to reflect, and to speak with the world through story rather than noise.
If you enjoy interactive fiction, visual novels, psychological narratives, dark fantasy worlds, and stories shaped by lived experience rather than formulas, this may become a quiet place for you — for a few evenings, or longer.
Hi everyone,
\nThis is the third major update and the final one.
\nFor the past year and a half, Black Equation has taken many different forms. What you see now is not a compromise, but a deliberate ending point.
\nI want to briefly explain how this project became what it is today. It began as something very different a minimalistic, mathematical game made in GDevelop. A black screen, simple resource management, and small logical systems. Solving numbers unlocked fragments of the story.
\nLater, I removed the mechanics entirely and focused on pure text, presented through a clean, bright interface.
\nAfter that, I experimented with an anime-inspired version illustrations, branching choices, and visible influence on the plot.
\nBut none of these versions felt honest. The more game I added, the further the core of the story slipped away. In the end, I chose Twine a simple editor and stripped everything down to what truly mattered:
\n- \n
Text
[/*]\nChoices
[/*]\nSound
[/*]\n
There are no visuals now. No systems. No gameplay loops. Black Equation became what it was always trying to be an interactive book.
\nWhat I chose to keep and what matters most to me is the sound. The music and songs were written by me. They were performed by people I found online people who believed in this project and lent their voices to it.
\nThis was not a solo journey in spirit, even if it often was in practice. I am not a professional programmer or game designer. But I carried this project through every version, every restart, and every doubt.
\nLiving with depression, OCD, and ADHD made this impossible to finish alone. I searched for help, collaboration, and support and while no one could carry this project in my place, nothing in it exists without my direct involvement.
\nNow, this journey has reached its end. In the process, I fulfilled three personal dreams:
\n- \n
a book
[/*]\na game
[/*]\nand music
[/*]\n
This is not an ending of creation only the moment where this story no longer asks to be changed.
\nThis final update marks the moment where the work is complete not abandoned, not paused, but finished and finally allowed to stand on its own.
\nThank you to everyone who played, listened, read, or supported this project in any way.

Your Solo Indie Developer Alex
Hi everyone,
I created this project as a way to share a story that lived inside me for years.
At first, I tried to turn it into a game with numbers, systems, and mechanics. But over time, I realized that none of it felt true to the heart of what I was trying to say.
So with version 2.0, Ive removed the gameplay. No more resource juggling, no logic puzzles.
Now, its exactly what it was always meant to be: a fully linear book in the form of a visual novel.
There are no choices, no branching paths just the story.
29 chapters, haunting music, and ink illustrations everything is focused on the world, the emotions, and the characters. Nothing distracts from the heart of it.
If you played the earlier version thank you.
And if you're just joining welcome to the story Ive carried for so long. I hope it speaks to you.
Alex
