What is Obey the Insect God about?\nA Finnish friend of mine introduced me to the Kalevala, which is the national epic of Finland. That inspired me to start making the game because I thought the story was really interesting and not really represented in American media before. Outside of that, youll have to play the game to see what else is in there!

How long is Obey the Insect God?

Most players will finish the game somewhere between 8-12 hours, but that depends on how many of the secrets you find and what difficulty you play on. Theres also definitely going to be people who go much faster, especially on their second or third playthroughs. You start the game with almost all of your movement abilities unlocked, so how fast you go is really just up to how well you know the game.\n\nThere is also New Game+ which will let you play through the game with all the weapons and powers unlocked from the start after you beat the game once, so you can really see how fast you can make it through the lair of the Insect God.

How many weapons/items are in the game?

We havent shown off all the weapons yet, but there are more than what you see in the trailer. Keep your eyes peeled, and youll see more soon ;)

Why live action sprites?

I wanted to create something that felt like an old game you rented from the video store once that no one else had ever heard of. So, making it look like old Sega or SNES games was a natural fit for what I was going for. Plus, as a solo dev, I had to find systems that worked for me, I used my film background to my advantage when it came to the live action sprites.

Do I have to be good at action games to play Obey the Insect God?

The game\'s difficulty can be changed at any time as youre playing. I wanted to create an experience that was fun for as many people as possible, and for some that means super challenging combat, and for others it means focusing more on platforming and exploring, so you can tweak your experience for what you find enjoyable as you play.

How does the game run on Steam Deck?

When I was making the game, I really wanted to make sure that it could run flawlessly on Steam Deck. If youre planning on jumping in on Steam Deck, I think youll be pleasantly surprised with how well it runs!
