The Descent of King Hesper

The Descent of King Hesper is a newly-released quality hold (expansion) for DROD that you can play now for free. It is the culmination of ten years of work by 45 architects, testers, writers, spriters, and programmers from the Caravel community who wanted to share their creation with the world. It is similar in style to the official holds, starting at beginner-level difficulty, exploring game elements one at a time, and ramping up to expert-level puzzles. There are lots of bonus puzzles and secret areas to find along the way. This hold is absolutely massive -- nearly 2,500 rooms and 150 levels! Best of all, you can download it from the Caravel Forum for free. Smitemaster's Selection CaravelNet DLC fixes

Smitemaster's Selection DLC updates have been deployed to address CaravelNet functionality issues. The holds Beethro's Teacher and Complex Complex have been updated to the latest version available on CaravelNet. The Choice has also been synced to the current version on CaravelNet. CaravelNet functionality should now be active and working properly for these three DLC holds.

Critical DROD level editor fix

A critical level editor bug was observed in DROD:GatEB on Steam. This issue causes odd room placement errors in the game's level editor. It exists for anyone playing the game before this announcement went up on 9/25. We patched this issue in the game engine as soon as we learned of it. However, in order to fix the issue on your end, you will need to reset your local player data files once by doing the following: [olist]

Export your player progress (optional): Go to the Main Menu, click "Change Player", then click "Export" to save your player game progress to a file on disk.

Delete the game's local data files: Exit the game. Go to "C:UsersDocumentsCaraveldrod-5_0" (on Windows) and delete the five "*.dat" files in this folder.

Start the game. If using Steam auto-cloud sync, select to use local (not remote) files.

Re-import your player progress (optional): Re-import any custom holds you had installed, then click "Import" on the player creation screen and select your exported .player file to import your progress back into the game. "Deadly Rooms of Death" (DROD) is a turn-based strategy and tactics puzzle game series. The story:

In this game, Beethro Budkin recounts an epic tale of adventure to his precocious nephews about his grandfather, Gunthro Budkin, and his exploits in the dangerous nation of Rasarus. Gunthro is a third-generation smitemaster and a rather ugly man. Smitemasters are hard-bitten, muscled veteran dungeon exterminators that slay hideous beasties in dark places for a living. You know Gunthro will get the job done, and you'll happily pay him to clear your basement of giant man-eating dungeon roaches.

When the Rasarun king is slain by an officer of Tueno, Gunthro is recruited by Rasarus to defend his country and reclaim its honor. However, as Gunthro searches deeper, he will find that things are not quite as they seem.
