The Gate has arrived on Steam! After many months of preparation and waiting, we are proud to announce the launch of The Gate on Steam. This new launch brings with it a fresh, new server and a stand-alone PC game client. If you have additional questions, feel free to post them below. Why a new server? We secured a deal with DeNA (our existing mobile publisher) to allow the launch of a PC-client version on Steam, on the condition that the PC-client version NOT be attached to the same server as the mobile/web version. As a result, we are launching the PC-client version on Steam with a fresh, new server. Why can't you transfer my existing account to the new server? Part of our agreement with DeNA says we are NOT allowed to transfer existing accounts away from the old server. If we do, we are liable to legal action. Please, do not ask us to do this. We cannot, and we have no control over this. Why are things cheaper on the new server? Money you spend on the Steam version is split only between Spicy Horse and Valve (30% Valve, 70% Spicy), therefore we make a larger % of every dollar spent on that platform, and we are able to pass along that saving to players on Steam. With the mobile version, the majority of the $ you spend DOES NOT go to Spicy Horse, it goes to Apple/Google, and DeNA. We cannot make prices lower there. If we did, then we could not afford to run and support the game on those platforms. Why no Mac, Linux, Toaster-Compy 2000, etc versions? We are a small studio and do not currently have the resources to launch Mac, Linux, or other versions of The Gate on Steam. If the game does well and there is enough interest to justify additional versions in the future we will consider the idea. Please, do not write to us complaining about this. Again, we are a small team, our hands are tied here. Why are there no Steam Achievements? Again, we are small studio and do not have resources to add these in at launch.
