It's been a year since we revealed "War Mongrels". The game's setting is meant to feature an underrepresented, important part of WWII history and showcase the dangers of any ideology. Originally, War Mongrels was supposed to be revealed at gamescom 2020. Together with our friends, Caliban, we prepared an awesome announcement concert, which was cancelled 10 minutes before the start. What War Mongrels also showcases is that no matter the times, it's easy to become affected by ignorance and hypocrisy. And since ignorance is bliss, we're hoping that today, one year later, there are people who're feeling happy and fulfilled having screwed us last year. On this unfortunate anniversary we wish them consistency and resolve in their beliefs. What we're ultimately trying to say with all this is THANK YOU for your continuous support for DC and War Mongrels. Two of the main characters in War Mongrels represent the so-called "Silent Unseen" (Polish Cichociemni). These were special forces, trained in Great Britain and formed by Polish men, sent to perform deadly and dangerous tasks. Not for their cause. Not for their nation. Only for survival. Forced to do some really bad shit. Their tragedy is something indisputable for us. The other side were collaborators who believed. Many believed in the idea of fighting against Bolshevism. That was the catchiest and probably the smartest thing that Nazi propaganda had to offer. Can we condemn them for getting into this? Of course, they could pull out their phones and check what is the truth, what kind of monsters their new friends'' really are. Oh wait they couldnt. Yet, seeing how many people are ready to swallow any propaganda nowadays (being fanatically convinced that this is the truth), I doubt things changed with this age of information. Look how many people today are attracted to Communism, even if all the knowledge is right in their reach - ready to be grasped. The murders witnessed by our heroes are not a figment of the imagination. At the beginning of July 1944, when the Red Army, as part of Operation Bagration, was approaching Vilnius, the surviving Jews working at the Kailis, Heereskraftfahrpark 562 and several other places, were taken to Ponary and shot. Ponary (now a district of Vilnius) had previously been a place of execution, and the July murder is only a drop in the blood of around 80,000 people spilled there in 194144. Vilnius itself is an example of the complex and difficult history of the area in the first half of the 20th century. After 1918, the city became a bone of contention between two countries emerging from a long period of non-existence, Poland and Lithuania. Over and over again, it passed into different hands, also during the Polish- Bolshevik war, to finally find itself within the borders of the Second Polish Republic. In September 1939, the Red Army took over the city after the invasion of Poland, to transfer Vilnius to Lithuania a month later. However, it was a sign of false friendship, because as early as 1940 all of Lithuania was annexed by the USSR. Then, in June 1941, the Germans attacked the Soviet Union... Germans, whom some Lithuanians initially welcomed as liberators from the Soviet occupation, during which they had already suffered a lot. Despite the fact that the Nazi authorities quickly cut Lithuanian dreams of regaining independence, many people collaborated with Germany. Requested changes for MyCharacter:

• Separated KickRadius from picking logic. For picking new property PickingRadius was added.
• Added bool bSuppressRotatingTowardVictim property which disables auto turning kick damage to nearest victim.
• Harcoded distances for kick sweep are exposed to BP now: KickLength and KickInRunLength.

Requested changes for MyCharacter:

• bool HatredShowCrosshair can be changed from BP.
• OnShowCrosshairChanged event is fired when HatredShowCrosshair was changed.
• bool bOverrideShootingDirWithOverridenShootingDir - marking this flag to true means that weapon will use FVector OverridenShootingDir property, it may be usefull to change shooting direction in FPS.
• bool bOverrideListenerLocationAndRotation- if set to true, the game will use. FVector OverridenListenerLoc and FRotator OverridenListenerRot as audio listener location and rotation.

• Added suicide option, by default it is binded to 'k' key and it may be remapped as you want in the controlls menu.

Added 'bDisableSwitchingCamerasDuringExecution' variable - it resides in our native character class, which means that any blueprint derived from MyCharacter will be allowed to override it and alter the behavior of cameras during execution. Base MyCharacter obviously has this as well.

Fixed crash when the game is trying to enumerate more mods than 4. Linux:

• Fixed viewport scaling when resolution was changed in fullscreen mode.
• Fixed camera issues when graphical options were changed during gameplay.

Game changes:

• Fixed cutting hero voice overs if grenade was changed
• Fixed respawn problems on Sewers map
• Fixed crash if player exited from the vehicle while shooting turret

• you asked and whined so here you go: added the possibility to change the algorithm that is used for AA. You can choose between TemporalAA and FXAA. Choose the one that suits you better in the Graphics Menu

• multiple bugfixes and tweaks (I know how it sounds, but really, we did)
  • fixed wind influence on Notim Portant's hair
  • added missing localizations in several places as well as updating them in run-time while people mess in the menu
  • fixed applying explosion radial damage
  • low health effects are now disabled during cutscenes
  • pistol and bazooka pickups should not spin infinitely anymore
  • dodge gives the same advantages as crouch
  • fixed cutscenes entered in car (trainstation / armybase) - the character model should be now properly rendered and positioned
  • fixed burning trees/bushes that did not burn
  • fixed issues with AIs burning, added little delay before start burning animation so it seems less synchronized
  • fixed car collision at very low speeds vs pawns, so it is no longer possible to 'ghost ride'

  • implemented random scale of bullet tracers so they do not always look the same
  • tweaked ragdolls so they look a bit better in most cases
  • fixed hiding mouse cursor after panel code (Power Plant ending cutscene)
  • doors can be destroyed with flamethrower much quicker now, quick enough for it to be viable
  • fixed spawning decals and some destructible chunks at inappropriate places
  • increased survival characters turn rate so it matches The Antagonist turn rate
  • fixed an AI behavior when when the AI exited from a burning vehicle (they were getting very tough and kept shooting while screaming in agony, bad asses)

  • got rid of insanely bright specular and lens flare effect in a certain spot and right camera angle on Power Plant level
  • fixed indestructible trash cans on Home stage
  • solved the issue with disappearing speakers from the boom box at the party
  • fixed issues with executions when you kicked a person under a flashbang effect and performed cinematic execution straight afterwards
  • fixed an issue when a weapon you picked up was unloaded and as a result removed from your inventory, happened with shotguns found in upper stage of Power Plant when going down
  • adrenaline in SV no longer counts down during pause
  • fixed issue with muted voice overs during the last cutscene when the 'voice volume' was set to 0
  • fixed rain not raining on Marina stage after restarting the level
  • kitchen oven was getting blasted so hard that it did not realize that it hit the ceiling and roof until it was already in outer space. This behavior has been corrected, and although the kitchen oven is not satisfied we consider it the way it's meant to be. Life is brutal.

• Survival score on the end match screen will always be 0 when a mod is enabled, because ladders are blocked with any mod enabled
