During the past 8 months we've been in Early Access, we've released over 25 updates adding lots of new content and features, such as 24 playable charactes, over 100 weapons and evolutions, and over 60 different trinkets, many of which were based on the community feedback we've got during the whole process.

Update #58 - Map fixes

Hi! Today's update brings a number of fixes on some map exploits, as well as a bug with a tape spawn in the Abbey. Bugfixes:

  • Fixed areas where only small investigators would fit in Bunker, Abbey, Hospital and Manor.
  • Fixed being able to climb on rocks in a specific point in Norwood Prairie.

Today's update brings a few changes and improvements, mostly bugfixes: Gameplay changes:

  • Lilith AI now will use her powers (except Beacon)
  • Shaira: Reduced Static penalty from 15 to 10%
  • Shaira: Increased Battery by 1 point.
  • Okiku: Increased Transfusion effect from 6 to 8%
  • Okiku: Increased Adaptation effect from 6 to 7% and maximum number of stuns from 8 to 10 (so she goes from a maximum theoretical 48% boost to a 70% boost).
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed "Ping 0" being shown ingame.
  • Fixed overlapping text in the gallery.

  • Increased score given to creature players by increasing the cap of some scoring items (idols, grabs...)

Update #49 - Small update

Today's update features a small number of changes: Improvements:

  • Removed Competitive mode. The amount of Competitive games didn't even reach 1% of the total number of games, so we're removing it.
Gameplay changes
  • Rinko: Increased Exploration by 1 point. Rinko's stat numbers weren't as good after a number of updates that reduced the weight of the Speed stat. This change compensates this and gives her Intuition perk a bigger effect, as she will be able to use the compass more often.
  • Vincent: Increased Vitality by 1 point. After a recent update that increased the importance of the Vitality stat, Vincent and his Elder perk were the most hurt by it. This change makes a bit harder for the creature to grab him a 2nd time.

Update #47 - Spectral Presence


When it's fraying at the seams of reality and blood seeps through every pore you know the time has come. Let the darkness control you and hone your skills by becoming the creature in Solo Play mode! Fear always grows stronger! New features:

  • Added leaderboard for played games
  • Added the option to play with the creature in Solo Play.
Improvements:
  • Added informative tips about low/high stat values on the investigator selection screen
  • High/Low stat values of investigators are shown in the Lobby screen.
  • Bot path is shown in the endgame replay.
Gameplay changes:
  • The number of "remaining grabs" will no longer have an effect on grab duration: Generally, investigators will take ~6 seconds longer before they die on their second grab.
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed Items being able to spawn too close to Shards.

Update #46 - Balancing changes

Today's update brings a few numeric changes to the features introduced in the previous one, after having some data on gameplay stats: Gameplay changes:

  • Wounded investigators speed effect reduced: Now it's 4% when wounded, 7.5% when on the brink of death.
  • Creature's speed boost when stunned by light reduced to 5%.
  • The Investigator Endurance stat no longer has effect on stamina recovery rate. This means all characters will recover all their stamina in ~7 seconds.
  • Nikolai: Increased Endurance by 1 point
  • Kurt: Increased distance at which Cautious begins having effect by 5m.

Update #45 - Bugfixes and balancing changes

Today's update brings a number of fixes and changes that aim to shake up the game a bit, attempting to make it a bit easier for beginners, while adding some changes that should help the creature against more experienced investigators as well. These changes aren't as fully tested as usual due to the holiday season, so please report any feedback or issues you might have in the forum. Gameplay changes:

  • Progress bar is no longer shown for caught investigators
  • Investigators not at full health will have their Speed reduced by 5%, investigators on the brink of death will have their Speed reduced by 10%. This effect is offset by Vitality (higher Vitality means the reduction will be smaller).
  • Reduced Investigator's Vitality effect on Grab duration (so values won't be as extreme when grabbing investigators with very high/low Vitality).
  • Changed Olkoth's Stigma perk to affect Endurance instead of Speed.
  • Investigators' Compass will now point to the clue from a closer distance (so it's a bit easier to find nearby clues).
  • Creature's speed is increased by 10% when stunned.
  • Investigators' base endurance is increased by 20% (so they can sprint for longer).
  • Creature's Light resistance increases a bit slower when being exposed to light (~20% slower).
  • Reduced distance at which creature is banished when solving a clue from 15 to 10 meters.
  • Reduced Split penalty to Exploration and Bravery by ~20%
Bugfixes:
  • Ranked game count wasn't properly saved.
  • Should have reduced stuttering during gameplay a bit.
  • Fixed a number of collision issues reported on the Discord channel.
  • Implemented automatic lobby countdown on Competitive (so the game will start even if the host is AFK).

Update #43 - Bugfix update

This quick update brings a number of fixes to recently introduced/discovered bugs. Improvements:

  • Added Christmas skins to all the Creatures that still didn't have one.
  • Modified scoring behavior on Competitive disconnects: If the creature leaves when the investigators are close to win, it counts as a win for them. Same for the other side. Also, disconnections to the host have a smaller effect on clients (they will still have some effect, since we can't distinguish a cable pull from a host disconnection).
  • Now competitive games will show as Competitive in the "Find Games" section (they are not joinable via this menu).
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed Astaroth's Christmas skin performance problems.
  • Fixed flashbang related bugs.

This week's update brings a number of features requested by fans that should improve the overall experience while joining games. Enjoy! Improvements:

  • For games in progress, the number of clues found so far is shown in the "Find Games" section
  • When waiting for a game in progress to end, the number of clues and alive investigators is shown on the top.
  • The Investigator tutorial video is shown the first time the game is run (can be skipped).
Gameplay changes:
  • Reduced grab distance while the creature is in the stunned animation, to reduce accidental grabs.
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed being able to slow/stun the creature while looking at the ground or the ceiling.

Update #39 - Bugfix update

This update features some fixes that we feel are important enough to be released earlier than usual. Enjoy! Gameplay changes:

  • Reduced frequency and effectiveness of Investigators' AutoBalance boost.
  • Slightly increased frequency of Creatures' AutoBalance boost.
  • Doubled sanity recovery speed while crazy.
Bugfixes:
  • Lilith: Charm wasn't active while placing totems.
  • Attempting to walk through the creature in the stunned animation will result in an automatic grab.
  • Fixed Lilith's Charm working the opposite of intended.
  • Fixed many pathing and creature teleport issues in some areas.

Welcome back, predator and prey! This week's update is a small one as well, apologies about that! Most of the new content was released for Halloween, so we don't have anything ready for the following weeks. We also wanted to inform we've started work on a new level. It'll be still a while until it's complete, but it will be worth the wait! Improvements:

  • Done some improvements under the hood that should reduce overall CPU usage by 2-5%

  • Fixed investigators "walking while going insane" (actually, they didn't went insane, but the local client thought otherwise).

Welcome, fellow investigators! This week's update brings a few quality of life improvements and balance changes to the table. Hope you enjoy them! New features:

  • New option to kick & ban players from a game. A ban list will be saved locally and can be cleared from the game options.
Improvements:
  • Added an idol counter on the creature's screen.
  • Added new section with Additional Remarks to the How to play section.
Gameplay changes:

Today's update brings a number of balancing changes before the Halloween Sale. Enjoy! Improvements:

  • Lilith: Renamed Beacon power to Cocoon.
Gameplay changes:
  • Lilith: Charm - Increased distance at which the effect begins from 15 to 18m. Increased distance at which Charm is most powerful from 5 to 8m.
  • Lilith: Reduced Glaucoma burst delay by 0.5 seconds
  • Lilith: Charm - The effect ignores crazy and grabbed investigators when picking the closest one.
  • Lilith: Terror - Fixed an issue that could cause the effect not to be applied to all investigators within range.
  • Lilith: Terror - While active, the Charm effect increases by 5m.
  • Lilith: Increased Perception by 1 point.
  • Olkoth: The Stalk perk now increases Perception by 20% as well.
  • Subject 23: Skill Usage increased by 1.

White Noise 2 PS4 Release date announced - October 13th

White Noise 2, the highly praised assymmetric 4vs1 horror game, will be released on PS4 on October 13th. Update #29 - Merciless Fate


We're bringing back the good old days with Classic Mode! Revive the original White Noise experience and ramp up your teamwork skills if you plan to survive. No compass. No special powers. No rest! Classic mode brings back the simple gameplay of White Noise Online. The hunt will be more intense and the creature will have to increase its efforts in tracking down its prey. The following changes are applied:

  • Investigators: No compass, light sticks, batteries or consumible items.
  • Investigators: Increased flashlight battery.
  • Creature: No powers or compass. Teleport is still available.
  • Creature: Power stat has effect over Speed, Perception and Idols
  • Creature: Strength stat has effect over Light Resistance and Horror
  • Some traits are disabled
  • Only tapes, no special clues
  • No Artifact, the game ends when the 8th tape is found.
  • Investigators are devoured right away.

  • Classic mode, selectable when creating a Custom Game.

  • Improved visibility of DPad icons when using a controller.

Update #24 - Poisonous Shadows


Two brand new characters join the investigator ranks: Denali always had a knack for computers and code breaking. Her tracking skills will surely be useful in these dark times. On the other hand, Jin is excellent both in studies and gaming. Being the captain of the Red Phantoms, his reflexes are second to none. This week's update introduces a few minor changes in preparation for next week, which will include 2 new investigators, Denali & Jin, for free. New features:

  • Accursed Pack: Added a new skin for each flashlight so they have 4 variations, as the rest of flashlights.

Update #18 - Witch Hour


In this update, we fill the customization gaps by adding cool new skins for Yumi, Nikolai and the White Noise Classic characters. Next update will feature brand new tape recordings to add to the sense of dread. See you on the other side! This update also features game tips on the loading screen, as well as other minor fixes and improvements. New features:

  • New unlockable skins for Nikolai, Yumi and the Classic characters
  • Useful tips on the Loading screen (Tips vary depending on which team you are playing on)

Update #17 - Creeping Death


This week we're adding 8 brand new skins, one for each starting character (Iker, Anna, Rinko, Phil, Maria and Vincent) along with the DLC characters Shaira and Corey. Also, a new Idol is added to the Astaroth DLC to help spread the horror even more. Hunt or be hunted! Skins for the rest of investigators (Yumi, Nikolai, and the classic characters) will come next week. Today's update also features a new auto-balance mechanic to boost a bit the creature or the investigators if they're having a hard time. Please let us know your impressions on this on the forums. Update #16 - Hotfix

Hi! Yesterday's update (including some balance changes to splitting players) has been a bit controversial, with some people liking the changes and some people against them. For now, we'll keep the changes and will see how it goes, and get some stats so next week we can decide if it's been a change for the better or not. Today's changes are just small perk adjustments, nothing major really. But don't fret, we have more free content planned for next week! Improvements:

  • Creature is now affected by light when aiming at parts of its body other than the head.
Gameplay changes:

Today's update brings a fix to an issue regarding lobby connection, as well as some balance changes geared towards high level play: Gameplay changes:

  • Reduced Endurance stat weight over Tiredness mechanic.
  • Bravery and Exploration are reduced for every alive investigator further than 20m to your position. (Base Bravery and Exploration is increased a bit). Amount depends on number of players in the game.
  • Reduced a bit Glowsticks' slow amount.

Update #13 - The Unnamed

The bad news: This week's update doesn't include everything we initially intended. Originally it would include a new creature DLC (we've been teasing about it for a while), but the DLC hasn't been approved by Steam yet (they're a little behind because of the Summer Sale, etc). The good news: Plenty of improvements and balance changes in this update. Also, remember the game is currently discounted 20% on the Steam Summer sale! A perfect opportunity to bring your friends and scare the hell out of them! Improvements:

  • Find games: Games in progress or unjoinable are now shown in the results (but grayed out).
  • Lobby: When going back from selecting character, it goes to the lobby instead of the team selection screen.
  • Cooldown times are readjusted if an investigator leaves mid-game
Gameplay changes:
  • Adjusted difficulty on Gobekli Ruins so it's a bit easier for investigators.
  • Reduced time spent when losing sanity from 5 to 4 seconds.
  • Reduced cooldown a bit for Ghosts' compass and flare.
  • Readjusted endurance gain when hit by flashlights so it's not so beneficial to creatures with low resistance.

Update #10 - Pale Traces


This week, the search for clues becomes more interesting... some may appear where you least expect them! We've also added new creature skins to help you leave a horrific first impression during the night of The Hunt. New features:

  • On every game, 2 Tapes will spawn outside landmarks.

Improvements:
  • Levels are now loaded asynchronously, which should make the game a bit more responsive during loading. Could cause some issues, so please report if you find any.
  • Manual disconnections from clients are detected faster.
Gameplay changes:
  • Reduced speed penalty with the flashlight off from 20% to 15%
  • Olkoth: Stigma effect reduced from 10% to 8%
  • Creature: Light resistance increases when being directly lit by flashlights (so the more you slow down the creature, the more time it will remain on further attempts).

Update #8 - Hotfix update

This week we have prepared a new update with some balance changes. We feel they are rather important in order to balance the game a bit more towards investigators, so we've decided to release it earlier than usual. Gameplay changes:

  • Creature teleport: Increased shared cooldown from 5 to 15 seconds.
  • Creature teleport: Increased teleport distance from ~25m to ~32.5m
  • Darcy: Turn speed reduction during Mourn changed from 60% to 40%
  • Vincent: Increased Vitality by 1 point, increased Experienced effect by 10%
  • Hannah: Deafness penalty changed from 50% to 30%
Bugfixes:
  • Changed/Fixed random character/flashlight selection behavior on multiplayer games: It was done using host's level and DLCs, now it uses player's level. DLC characters/items won't be assigned if using Random.

Update #7 - Dark Purpose


A portal between worlds has been opened, allowing all manner of horrors to roam the earth! A new clue has been added to the game, in which you will have to find all the missing pieces to seal an ancient rift once and for all. And to satisfy the investigators' thirst of knowledge, tapes now play short recordings about the events that lead to the vanishing of a previous scouting group. What were they really up to? New features:

  • New special Clue: The Rift.
  • Now recordings can be heard when picking up tapes, like in the original White Noise.
Improvements:
  • Added a new insanity effect (it's up to you to find out!).
  • Added a new distortion effect to the intro panels.
  • Match lobby: Characters with no flashlight selected will be shown holding the random flashlight model.
Gameplay changes:
  • Darcy's Cairn: Reduced base duration of negative effects (Speed reduction, flashlight disabled) from 15 to 10 seconds. Mark duration remains the same.
  • Teleport skill: Increased cooldown to 75 seconds
  • Increased flashlight slowdown by 4%
  • Increased lightstick slowdown by 3%
  • Astaroth: Breakdown effect is cancelled when someone is grabbed
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed "near death" effect not restoring right away when using a medkit.

Update #6 - Ancient Wisdom


This week features a special surprise: along with rebalanced sound effects and enhanced audio post-processing, every character is fully voiced by professional actors! Proud, cocky, fearful or restless. Each investigator has received a boost of personality and charisma. Just be aware that, even if you're chatting casually, the hunt never ends! Another important change in today's update is the revamp of the Creature's Teleport skill, now it will teleport creatures very close to investigators (just outside their view range) so it's another tool instead of just a "panic button". The cooldown has been increased to compensate for that. New features:

  • Added voices for all investigators.
  • Creature's teleport skill: Now it teleports close to investigators. Increased cooldown.
Improvements:
  • Changed enviromental audio settings per level (so the level of echo/reverb is different)
Gameplay changes:
  • Reduced lightsticks' slow effect on the creature by ~10%

Update #5 - Drenched in Fear


Two new investigators have decided to go in deep into arcane knowledge! Nikolai, a retired army officer trying to find new ways of dealing with the hidden terrors. Thanks her old camera, Yumi has become aware of several paranormal phenomena happening nearby. Will she be able to shed some light on this mystery? Improvements:

Update #4 - Impending Doom


Years after being shut down surrounded by unsettling circumstances, Eastmore College finally permits the entrance to the most capable investigators. Enroll in art classes, sneak through tight maintenance corridors and spend some relaxing time in the recreational facilities. Try submitting your application ahead of deadline! This update's main feature is the addition of a new area to explore, the Eastmore College. Minor balance changes and overall improvements are also featured.

  • New playable area: Eastmore college

  • Improved a bit Lobby's lighting so investigators aren't as dark.
  • Ending cutscene: Now it's always shown in standard colors, instead of Ghost/Creature colors

Update #3 - Torn Flesh


Evil awakens once more to deliver one of its most dangerous creations: Astaroth, the duke of darkness. Today's update main feature is the addition of a new creature: Astaroth, the Duke of Darkness. Update #2 - Easter Eggs


Howdy! Today we're relasing a new update ahead of time (because the next 2 days ares holidays here on Spain). This update addresses some minor issues and is a first attempt to improve the overall spookiness of the game, both from an ambience and gameplay perspectives. It also includes some work in preparation for the next update, which will include a new playable character. New features:

  • Added a new tutorial video for ghosts.
  • Added some Easter creature skins.
Improvements:
  • Changed game soundtrack to be a bit more disturbing and closer to the original White Noise Online ambience.
  • Increased time before the ambience goes back to the "calm" music.
  • Added a new in-game tip telling you move slower with the flashlight off.
Gameplay changes:
  • Idols now highlight nearby clues. Useful to set up traps or move ahead of the investigators.
  • Placed traps are now permanently highlighted for the creature. Again, useful to lead investigators to them.
  • Increased Compass cooldown for both sides. Less "follow the arrow", more exploring!
  • Reduced distance at which monster can be spotted (easier to hide in the dark).
  • Reduced overall distance at which monster is stunned.
  • Increased investigator footprint duration.
  • Slightly reduced lightstick cooldown.
  • Reduced a bit experience required to level up.
  • Changed levels required to unlock some characters, to accomodate for the upcoming new content.

Update #1 - Hotfix update

Welcome back, fellow investigators! In today's update, we address a few issues that were found during the weekend. Nothing major, but we felt like releasing the update today. Improvements:

  • Increased the amount of data sent when an specific bug occurs. That will help us locating and fixing it for the next update.
  • If the creature leaves on the finale, the victory is awarded to the survivors. If a survivor leaves while being the last one alive, victory is awarded to the creature (except on 1vs1 games). However, this only applies when the connection to the host hasn't been lost.
  • Added an option to disable view bob
  • Quick play now gives priority to lobbies with more players.
Gameplay changes:
  • Subject 23: Scarecrows won't trigger until 5 seconds have passed since deployment.
  • Rusalka: Energy traps won't trigger until 5 seconds have passed since deployment.
Bugfixes:
  • Private games that were in the lobby weren't counting towards the total amount of players shown in the main menu.
  • (Hopefully)Fixed bug where investigators could see their footprints.
  • Fixed creature AI getting stuck on some points in the Norwood Praire.
  • Fixed creature highlights being wrong/weird when playing on Very Low detail.

White Noise 2 available now!


White Noise 2 has finished its Early Access process and is available now! We hope you enjoy playing the game as much as we do! Remember to be nice to other people and try to be helpful as they learn the game mechanics. It's been 6 months since the Early Access release, and we feel the game has improved a lot in this time. We want to thank our backers for the support and feedback offered through the whole process so, as usual, we'll do some gifts to them. Rest assured, the release is not the end but just the beginning! Update #30 - Rite of Passage


This last update before the official release includes two new consumible items for investigators: The Energy Bar will grant the survivor a brief speed boost and the Flashbang, that will teleport the creature away. New features:

  • New consumible items: Flashbang and Energy bar

  • Changed game logo with the new one.
  • Lightsticks now slowly fade away instead of just just disappearing.
  • Changed Play menu button pictures
  • Idol Highlights are now disabled in the monster intro.

  • Added a subtle camera roll when doing a quick turn.

White Noise 2 release date announced - April 6th


White Noise 2, the highly praised assymmetric 4vs1 horror game, will be released on Steam on April 6th. Update #29 - A Nightmare to Remember


The main feature of this update is the experimental party support. You can now invite friends and start looking for a game with enough slots available together, or create a private match and start playing. If you find any issues please let us know and report them on the forums. We also wanted to let you know that we're on the final stretch towards release! (more news the following week). Until then, no more big content updates will be done, but we're still working on them so rest assured they will come later! New features:

  • Experimental party support to create/find games as a group.
Improvements:
  • Updated connectivity plugin, hopefully it will help solving network issues.
  • Increased draw distance on high quality settings. This will help with trees/buildings being cut with the skybox.
  • Most UI listings are now looped (you can go from the first to the last and viceversa).
Gameplay changes:
  • Sanity loss is halved when a monster is grabbing someone, or teleporting away. (Since you're forced to look at the monster at those points, it was too easy to become crazy while looking at the monster going away).
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed bot getting stuck on a specific point in Alvira Bunker
  • Fixed showing incorrect pose in the lobby when a player hasn't selected a flashlight yet.
  • Fixed highlights being shown for a second when an investigator is teleported away with a Cairn.

Update #28 - Hotfix update

Today's update brings a few fixes. These are brought early because they could improve network connectivity for some people and we want to test them as soon as possible. There's also a few tweaks to Darcy to reduce her power a little bit, and an improvement to investigators' Stealth as suggested by users. Gameplay changes

  • Darcy: Reduced Wraith speed benefit when affected by light.
  • Darcy: Decreased Mourn effect duration a bit.
  • Stealth: Now it modifies duration of all monster power effects affecting an investigator (such as traps, cairns, Lights Out, etc). Higher stealth means shorter effects.
Improvements
  • When disconnection to Relay servers is detected, the host will try to reconnect (Experimental)

Update #27 - Heathen Throne


This week's update comes a bit sooner! Along with the Coven, a new idol that will harm investigators' vitality, color variations for all existing idols have been added. We've also buffed Darcy a bit to put her at the same level as the other creatures in terms of power, and added plenty of new animations for characters in 3rd/1st person. Finally, we've also done a number of changes and fixes on network connectivity, it should now perform much better. Update #26 - Conjuring Darkness


A new creature has arisen from the darkness: Darcy, the Exiled Banshee, joins the creature roster to usher the world into despair. Harness her otherwordly powers to hound the investigators to the ends of the earth, kneading their fragile will or even teleporting them to the uttermost darkness. This big update also brings plenty of improvements to the menu UI and more ways to communicate for investigators, as well as new animations for some characters. New features:

  • New playable creature: Darcy
  • Added contextual message when performing tasks.
  • New lobby animations
  • New character poses in the selection screen (except for Classic characters).
  • Added a message recommending to read the How to play when starting the game for the first time.
  • Quick Chat: Increased the number of possible messages (from 4 to 16), in 4 groups (Orders, Warning, Information and Chatter). The 4-4 message is a personal quote for each character.

Update #25 - Mortal Coil


In this update, some investigators from the original White Noise Online (Chuck, Jean Luc, Anne Marie and Hannah), receive some [FFDD22]extra skins[-]. There's also a new [FFDD22]contextual message[-] key that will improve coordination with players without voice chat. Next week a new creature will arise to haunt the investigators' dreams. It'll be the first monster made by our new character artists so be sure to check it out! New features:

  • New skins for Chuck, Jean Luc, Anne Marie and Hannah
  • New contextual chat key (C / Right stick by default) that will notify other investigators of important items such as batteries, consumibles, traps...

This week's update is focused on customization and ambience. We've added several audio tracks to keep investigators in their toes, including a finale exclusive one. Each location has been updated with extra environment sound cues to cause additional uneasiness. We've also modified a bit the overall color balance to better match the game setting. And last but not least, you can now select between 4 different skins for each flashlight! New features:

  • New audio track for the finale
  • New environment sounds depending on the current scenario
  • You can now customize your flashlight skin color.
  • New AI Difficulty setting when creating a Custom game.
  • New voice set for some characters
Improvements
  • The "Scare" effect is not triggered if you previously heard the monster scream.
  • Reduced overall color saturation a bit.
Gameplay changes:
  • Lowered default AI monster agressiveness and overall difficulty
  • Bravery is now increased temporally when saved after being caught by the monster (so you can't get crazy when looking at the fleeing monster).
  • Scoring: Reduced monster score bonus for devouring investigators on the first try from 400 to 200 points.
  • Scoring: Increased investigator victory score from 500 to 750 points.
Bugfixes:
  • The "spontaneous investigator scream" conditions on the scare event weren't properly set.

Update #23 - Hotfix update

Today's small update fixes some of the issues that appeared past Friday. Improvements:

  • Changed the way position messages are sent. This should reduce bandwith usage during gameplay by ~20% on both host and clients.
  • Updated German achievement texts.
  • Updated new achievement icons.

  • Fixed Team player achievement unlocking at 5 games instead of 20.
  • Minor connection issues fixes.

Update #22 - Melody in the Mist


Apologies, this update has been rolled back until we fix the issues on Monday Finally, the Varosha Campsite receives visitors after a prolonged hiatus lost in time and space! Land inside its comforting cabins, visit its renowned pottery fair and, for the daring investigators, a small detour through the haunting abandoned mines. Plenty of fun events planned for everyone! But peek over your shoulder every now and then... just in case... New features:

Update #21 - Hotfix update

This small update fixes some simple but important issues found in the previous one. Bugfixes:

  • Fixed the Prism behind a grate not being breakable in the Alvira Bunker.
  • Fixed some Arcane Chest button placements in the Norwood Praire.
  • Fixed some minor errors regarding Grimoires and Arcane Chest buttons.
  • Removed the "ScoreOtherSpecials" line in the scoring section.
Improvements:
  • Improved automatic error reporting, should be of help in debugging some network issues.

Update #20 - The Answer Lies Within


In this update, the investigators will need to overcome several trials to uncover the clues that will aid them against the unknown evil! In addition to finding old tapes, they'll have to decode arcane tomes forgotten through the ages, seal ancient rifts created in other worlds and defuse complex mechanisms that weren't designed to be opened. This update also includes a big amount of improvements on visuals and gameplay, such as seeing the equipped items of other players or more disturbing scare/craziness effects. New features:

  • 3 New types of goals can be spawned in Landmarks other than tapes: Grimoires, Arcane Chests and Prisms. They are a bit more complex to accomplish, so only 2 of these are spawned per game.
  • When a public game is full, an automatic 60 seconds countdown starts. The game will start even if not everyone has chosen their team/character/equipment at that point. This hasn't been thoroughly tested so please report any issues.
Improvements:
  • New visual effect on scarejumps/monster screams/craziness
  • The equipped item is shown in the investigator's back
  • The Waiting for players/Waiting for host/countdown title in the lobby now blinks when something important is being shown.
  • Brought back the old Insanity animation.
  • Increased visibility of other people's flashlights.
Gameplay changes:
  • In 1vs1, the investigator is automatically freed when caught by the creature (unless there are no lives left).
  • Reduced minimum compass distance (so it only shows a circle if you're closer), to compensate for the difficulty of the new goals.
  • Iker: Increased Optimist effect from 15% to 20%, reduced Clumsy effect from 20% to 15%.
  • Anna: Athlete now also makes her less noisy when running, reduced Suspicious effect from 8% to 5%.
  • Reduced number of Medkits spawned from 3-4 to 2.
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed some sound issues.
  • Fixed Coop games being shown as "Waiting for Creature" in the main menu and the Quick Play section.
  • Fixed character models always floating 5cm above ground.
  • Fixed customize input button not showing the proper instructions for gamepads.
  • Removed left hand reaching interactable objects for other players (this was not intended to be shown).

Update #19 - Faith in Others


A new investigator joins the team to help clear up the truth! Maria, the only survivor of a small inland village, is looking for answers about the location of her family and friends. Help her find the necessary clues needed to conquer the inner chaos the world is immersed in. This update also brings a series of bugfixes and quality of life improvements. We also want to say a big farewell to our character designer Santiago Orozco, who has left the team and will be joining Ubisoft.   • Added new animations for some events, such as becoming crazy, picking up and using items, etc.
  • Different colors used on text chat depending on the player's team, and the name is stroked if the investigator is dead.
  • Batteries and items should not spawn too close of each other.
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed game being unplayable when pressing the Text chat button in Solo play.
  • (Probably) Fixed pink squares on some particle effects when playing on DirectX 9 mode.
  • Fixed Replay and Credits screen trembling when Antialiasing was enabled.
  • Fixed building decorations not being properly placed in a chapel in the Abbey.
  • Fixed traffic wand model not being lit back up after being caught with the light disabled by Energy trap/Shutdown power.

Update #18 - The Devil is in the Details


This week's update focuses mostly on optimizing the current assets so that the game runs better in lower-end hardware. Also... colored lightsticks! You can select a different color inside the Settings/Game menu. Next week we'll introduce a brand new investigator, and a new location is also in the works, so don't let your hunting skills become rusty! New features:

  • Customizable lightstick colors.
Improvements:
  • First phase of a series of enhancements to improve overall CPU/GPU usage. It's a bit experimental so please post any issues you may find in the forums, as well as telling if you noticed an improvement or not.
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed incorrect game name in the credits :P

Update #17 - Hotfix update

Hello! We've decided to release a quick update after seeing a huge winrate for the creatures after the last update. We knew creatures would have it a bit easier, but didn't expect a 90% winrate! This update tones down some of the most powerful idols, and changes a bit the way shared power cooldowns work, among other things. Bugfixes:

  • Fixed an area being unreachable by the creature but not by survivors in the Bunker.
  • Fixed Vincent model not looking up/down
  • Fixed game entering an unresponsive state when failing to create a custom match.
  • Fixed players being able to exit the area by climbing some rocks in the Abbey.
Gameplay changes:
  • Shared creature power cooldown time now depends on the power used: 5 seconds for Sprint, 10 seconds for powers not directly affecting investigators (Scarecrow, EMP, Decoy...), 15 seconds for the rest.
  • Anna: Increased Endurance, reduced battery usage.
  • Pustules: Reduced power increase from 5% to 4% per totem.
  • Blisters: Reduced impact to exploration from 5% to 3% per totem.
Improvements:
  • Added an onscreen message when the game fails to start because of DLL issues (so there shouldn't be more "Empty black screen" errors).

Update #16 - Monstruous Omen


In this update, the Creature gets a new set of Idols to choose from, that will affect investigators in different ways. Will you prefer to improve your skills, mess with their orientation, or just drive them insane and reap the results? New features:

  • Added 6 selectable Idols for the monster with special Traits.
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed decoys and other traps being planted in spots investigators can't reach.
  • Fixed tapes unable to be picked after an Anne Marie investigator leaves the game.
  • Fixed 1vs1 achievements not being online only.
  • Fixed AI always being Olkoth in multiplayer games.
Improvements:
  • The "Customize Controller" option is hidden if no controller is being used (it couldn't be changed anyway).
Gameplay changes:
  • Players that haven't chosen the Investigator team won't be able to see which investigators have been chosen.

Update #15 - Six Feet Under


Welcome back, fellow investigators! Hope you're having a great 2017 so far. This weeks' update main feature is the addition of the Alvira Shelter, a new environment filled with misteries yet to be revealed... before you get trapped inside! In this location, survivors will roam the abandoned facilities while the creature stalks them from the many nooks hidden in this rotten bunker. We've also reviewed the gameplay stats from the past weeks and done some balancing tweaks to a few characters. New features:

  • New Level: Alvira Shelter
  • Added a new Cutscene when the investigators win the game.
  • Removed Christmas skins.
  • Changed "Create Private Game" option in the Main Menu to "Create Custom Game", adding the option to create a Coop-only (vs AI) game.
  • You can now drop items by holding the item key. You can share medkits this way.

  • Improved wording of the game tip telling the investigator what to do when the monster is in front of him.
  • Reordered Investigator/Flashlight stats in the selection screens to a more intuitive order.

Update #14 - We have a present for you


A new investigator joins the search in this update! Vincent, the retired actor, will show these youngsters how it's done. We've also added a set of Christmas skins so you can properly enjoy the game these holidays. Ho, Ho, Ho! This is the last update for this year (unless something it's broken and a Hotfix is required), we'll now go enjoy a well deserved Christmas Vacation and will be back in a few weeks!   • Added a new unlockable investigator: Vincent

Gameplay changes:
  • Statuette: The statuette now disables the creature's capability to see highlights until destroyed

Update #13 - Right at your fingertips


Welcome back, our fellow investigators! This week's update adds a set of useful items for the investigators that can be carried and used later, with powerful beneficial effects (but they take time to use). Also, visibility of tapes has been greatly enhanced, and Ghosts are now more useful, with a new skill and the ability to break a single sigil on the Finale. Moreover, a number of balance adjustments have been done, so the Endurance stat has more weight, and some characters (such as Sarah) have been improved a bit. New features

  • A cutscene is shown when the investigators win by breaking the last Sigil
  • Added 5 different items that can be found by the investigators on the scenario and used for their advantage.
  • Ghosts can now drop a light source that can lit the area and slow the monster down.
Improvements
  • Changed the way the AI monster is selected so all unlocked monsters have an equal chance of being selected
  • Changed the way character stats are shown
  • Level cap increased to 100
  • Music events now do not kick in if you're not near the monster when they are activated.
  • Increased timeout while joining Steam lobbies. Should help with connectivity over slow connections.
Gameplay changes
  • Anna: "Suspicious" speed loss changed from 15% to 10%
  • Character skins can now have minor variations over the main values.
  • Endurance: Now it also affects stamina regeneration delay.
  • Ghosts can now break a single sigil, if they didn't break one before dying (they change color after you've broken one)
  • Breaking sigils now grants points (also to your teammates).
  • Increased tape visibility
  • Ghosts can no longer see the Scarecrows.
  • Tweaked some character stats (such as Sarah).
  • Maximum sanity now drops faster.

Update #12 - A tale of horror


This update's main feature is the revamp of Subject 23 with new powers and perks, changing the way it's played and bringing him closer to the classic White Noise behavior. Its powers are focused on lurking around their preys and draining their sanity over time, as well as deceiving and ambushing unaware investigators. New features:

  • New set of powers and perks for Subject 23
Improvements:
  • Looking up/down is now synchronized over the network. This means you can see where other people is really pointing their flashlight at, and the creature won't be stunned by people looking at the ground.
  • Should have reduced a bit the microfreeze when the finale begins.
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed washed out graphics on the main menu on Medium and lower settings.
Gameplay changes:
  • Finale: 2 more sigils than required are spawned. Increased the area where they can spawn a bit on some landmarks.

Update #11.2 - 2nd Hotfix update

Hello fellow investigators (and fearsome creatures!), Due to the high number of reports of "Unexpected error" connection problems, we've decided to publish a new update for the game. This update increases the time allowed before a timeout is detected, this should help with connections being established. It also should give more detailed messages than just "Unknown error", but this is not guaranteed. This update also helps a bit the investigators by allowing them to use the compass right away when the game starts.

Update #11 - The truth has been unveiled


Today's update adds a final goal after finding the 8 tapes. Once the Investigators manage to put together all the clues and solve the puzzle, The Artifact's position will be unveiled, together with the seals protecting it. Breaking them will vanish the creature from this plane of existence. Moreover, a new set of assorted flashlights is included in this update. We've also updated the game to the latest Unity 5.5 engine, so some issues may arise because of that. New features:

  • Added a finale after survivors pick up the 8 tapes.
  • Added new unlockable flashlights.
  • Players can now hide their level to others via a game setting.
  • Ready / Not ready state can be changed from the lobby (defaults to Ready)
  • Added new music for the main menu.
  • The winner team is shown in the results screen.
Gameplay changes:
  • Flashlight stun range is reduced a bit when battery is low (minimum of 70% of the original value when battery is empty).
  • Reduced lightstick cooldown, also reduced lightstick duration.
  • Modified Sarah's Shadow perk, now she doesn't lose speed when the flashlight is off.
  • Changed Hannah's Agile perk effect, now she can walk backwards faster.
  • Ghosts should be able to disable decoys now.
  • Investigator skill cooldowns are now a bit shorter on games with less than 4 investigators.
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed "Hero" achievement not working.
Improvements:
  • Player name labels are not shown on the Intro sequence.
  • Points should be awarded now when a game doesn't end because of a disconnection (the results screen may not be shown if the host left the game, but the points will be still earned).

Update #10 - Shivers down the spine


A new creature awakes from its slumber: Rusalka, traveller between worlds, joins the creature roster to give continuity to The Hunt. She has a new set of powers focused on disorienting and hunting survivors, changing the feeling and pace of the game to a more intense hunt: You'll never have a moment of respite when Rusalka is around! This update also includes achievements and a plethora of bugfixes and quality of life improvements, making it easier to find and join games, and improving the overall experience. New features:

  • New creature: Rusalka
  • New unlockable skins for Subject 23
  • Added Steam Achievements to the game
  • The list of players and their connection quality can be shown by pressing Tab.
  • The list of players is shown on the pause menu, where they can be muted/kicked.
  • Added Creature Perks
  • Added an option to show the list of games waiting for players, where you can manually select which one you want to join, or create a new one. This should help with AFK lobbies.
Improvements:
  • A list and description of the creature powers can now be seen when selecting them.
  • A list of games in progress and total number of players is now shown on the Main Menu (experimental).

  • Now the selected creature is not shown to investigators in the lobby.

Update #9.1 - Connectivity Hotfix

Hi! This weekend update features a new version of the connection plugin we use for online sessions. It should help with some of the issues that were introduced in a previous patch, as well as with some of the older ones. In short, if everything works properly, online games should work for pretty much everybody. Be warned, we haven't tested it much (it's a weekend after all!), so some new bugs may arise. We'll be on the lookout and revert the update if it's serious enough.

Update #9 - Run for your life! (Plus Rusalka teaser)


This update features a series of changes aiming for a quicker, more satisfying game experience, probably increasing the chances of the investigator team. Many of them are centered on walking/running speed. These may be a bit extreme so feel free to comment your impressions on the forums! Gameplay changes:

  • Abbey: Added more totem spawns
  • Hospital: Fixed some issues with monster teleport positions.
  • Creature: Reduced shared power cooldown from 15 to 10 seconds.
  • Creature: Can't cast powers while invisible
  • Creature: Sprint power disables (silently) if you get near the investigators.
  • Creature: Slightly increased base speed (around 3%)
  • Creature: Slightly increased Speed stat effectiveness
  • Creature: Decreased speed while stunned by light by 5%
  • Creature: Decreased maximum endurance (time before fleeing) from 15 seconds to 12.
  • Creature compass: Now it will take Stealth into consideration when determining the closest investigator.
  • Increased Subject 23 Power stat.
  • Investigators: Base endurance value reduced from 6 seconds to 5.
  • Investigators: Increased Endurance stat effectiveness.
  • Investigators: Increased Speed stat effectiveness (still a bit lower than it was pre-patch)
  • Investigators: Increased base speed by 5%, and sprint speed by 3%
  • Increased Phil's Flashlight stat.
  • Decreased Hannah's Stealth stat.
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed walking 20% when the flashlight is On, now investigators will walk 20% slower with the flashlight Off, as originally intended.
We're also showing a Teaser image of Rusalka, the new creature we'll be adding soon (probably by next week). Rusalka is a fast tracker, but really weak to light, so it will need to make good use of its new powers to overcome that weakness, set traps and cause chaos to disband the group and hunt stranded investigators. We're still tuning some values around it, but we think the general feeling and gameplay is fun and different from the original.

Update #8 - Improved connectivity and bugfixes


Today's update features some fixes and improvements to the Abbey level, based on your feedback during this weekend. We've also added an experimental new feature that uses third party relay servers when a direct connection is not possible. This should fix connection issues for most people connection issues. Note that this new feature is experimental and we are not sure if it will stay or not yet. Please feel free to share your impressions on the forums. New features:

  • Connections now default to a third party relay server if a direct connection is not possible.
Improvements:
  • Fixed monster not being able to walk through some points in the Abbey level
  • Added more ambience sounds and effects in the Abbey level.
  • Added visual effect when the creature is invisible and it's getting close to the investigators.
Gameplay changes:
  • When an Idol is placed, nearby decoys are now destroyed (~1.5m around it)
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed music "relaxing" too soon after the monster is spotted.
  • Fixed Steam/App crash when there were connectivity issues.
  • Fixed game not being joinable anymore if it ended because of a player leaving.

Update #7 - Say your prayers


Today's update introduces the new level The Abbey, This new location mixes labyrinthine corridors with open areas, directly beneath a thunderous storm. Some parts of the scenario may be a bit empty, it's something that we'll fix next week, but the level should be fully playable. We also submitted yesterday a small update with a with fixes to a few issues and crashes. New features:

  • New map: The Abbey of the Savior
Improvements:
  • The AI creature performs better when chasing survivors up close.
  • Decreased attenuation of the creature's noises when close (Hearing radius is unchanged, it just screams harder but not further)
Gameplay changes:
  • Halved time the creature is slowed by light when it's not being hurt anymore. (In other words, it goes back to full speed faster when you stop pointing at him with a flashlight). This also applies to lightsticks' light radius.
  • Increased invisibility deactivation distance from 5m to 6m.
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed game entering an unresponsive state when the monster leaves the game during load/character intros.
  • Fixed Kick function not working.
  • Fixed a few crashes and errors relating connections.
  • Fixed issues with title texts in non-english languages.
  • Probably fixed an issue due to network latency where a player is killed just at the same time as it's being rescued by a partner.

Update #6 - Balancing changes, lighting improvements, and bugfixes


Today's update features a series of changes in order to improve balancing a bit, as well as plenty of fixes for issues that were found during past weekend. We've also modified lighting of the scenes in some parts of the main menu such as character selection and the lobby, so they help set the proper mood before a game. It also introduces some under-the-hood changes to prepare for the upcoming Abbey scenario, available really soon, and the new creature, with different powers. NOTE: Because of the changes in input settings, you may have to reset mappings to default values! New features:

  • Linux: Added an option to launch the game using the Native libraries instead of the ones provided by Steam.
  • Added German, Portuguese and Norwegian community translations.
Improvements:
  • Improved lighting of the main menu scenes and character intro.
  • Under-the-hood changes to how skill and power cooldowns work (there should not be any visual difference, but please report if you find anything).
Gameplay changes:
  • Reduced visibility (range and clarity) when flashlight is off
  • Reduced time to rescue caught investigators (by 2s for the first grab, 1s for the second one).
  • Subject 23: Decreased light resistance and Idol power stats.
  • Investigators: Reduced effect of the Speed stat by 40% (so slow characters won't be as slow, and fast characters won't be as fast)
  • Hannah: Agility trait effect duration reduced from 5 to 3 seconds.
  • Rinko: Adorable trait now also lowers Bravery permanently when Rinko dies.
  • Chuck: Switched Carefree trait so now it's active when near other survivors (so it doesn't clash with the Lone Wolf positive trait).
Bugfixes:
  • Windows XP: Fixed the game not launching properly.
  • Fixed several minor issues that could cause some errors and crashes.
  • Fixed some texts not being shown in the proper language.
  • Fixed the "Stuck in killing animation" bug when an investigator got caught just as he became crazy.
  • Fixed gamepad left trigger messing with game menus in some cases
  • Fixed mouse scroll wheel not working in the game menus.

Update #5 - Introducing investigator traits!


Today's update introduces a new feature: Investigator traits. These traits are minor passive skills that make each character behave differently on certain situations. For example, Iker has Optimist, that allows him to recover some sanity when picking up a tape, and Clumsy, that increases the interaction time when picking up batteries or disabling Idols. Each investigator has one positive and one negative trait, there's no one in his sane mind in this game! Among other notable changes are the connection quality indicator in the lobby, the addition of the French community translation and a new look for the tapes. New features:

  • First version of Investigator traits
  • New tape model, now it has a speaker and some glowing items on it.
  • Added French community translation
  • Added a connection quality icon for each player on the lobby.
Improvements:
  • Connection error messages should be a bit more useful.
  • On Quick Join, the game looks for sessions in a closer range than before, and then switches to broader ranges if no games are found. Should help in getting better connections for crowded areas, and finding people on less crowded ones.
Gameplay changes:
  • Increased investigator skill cooldown by approximately 10%.
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed Compass icon not refreshing properly when the monster is forced to teleported away (the compass could be used but the UI didn't reflect it properly).
  • Now players can't join a game with a different network protocol version via invite.
Trait values and effects are subject to change depending on player feedback and gameplay statistics. On next content update, we're aiming to add a new game location, the Abbey, so stay tuned for more!

Update #4 - Bugfixes (yes, again!)

Hi, new update! This one is another hotfix release. It should get rid of the "Too many threads" crash for good, as well as some issues regarding connections/disconnections. We're aware this is not everything and there are still some problems regarding connectivity. We'll issue a new update soon that should fix those as well. Bugfixes:

  • Should have fixed the issue causing the "Too many threads" bug
  • Fixed a series of exceptions in different points of the game.
  • When a player disconnects while being caught by the monster, the monster is teleported.
  • When a player disconnects while talking, the icon is removed.
  • Language selection is properly saved.
Next update should include new gameplay features, not just bugfixes. Stay tuned!

Today's mini-update includes community translations to Italian, Finnish and Russian, as well as (hopefully) fixes to the "Too many threads" crash. New features:

Update #2 - Another hotfix!


Hi! Today we're releasing the second update for the game. This update doesn't really address any specific crashes, but it should be of help when looking for games so we're pushing it earlier. Improvements:

  • Now you can check how many lobbies are waiting for investigators and for the creature (they can be waiting for both).
  • Improved overall graphics performance, specially on lowest settings (should be around 20-25% faster on lowest settings with everything disabled. Higher settings can also notice a smaller improvement).
  • Improved a bit overall CPU performance on lowest settings (roughly 5% CPU performance gain).
  • Increased some timeout values, should help with random disconnections during gameplay.
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed some typos in the How to play section.

Update #1 - Hotfix, and some details


Hi, hope you could get some sleep past night! Or did you have some nightmares? :) Today we're releasing the first update for the game. This update focuses on fixing the most important issues found so far: Investigators not being able to coordinate properly, and difficulty of locating a nearby tape. Some of these fixes are temporary until we can get a better solution, but they should be enough to improve overall experience. Improvements:

  • Improved tape visibility, so it's easier to locate once you're near it if you're not playing with headphones.
  • Ghost' shouts are shown with a different color.
  • You can see a player's nick over his head when you're close.
  • A player using quick chat is highlighted when you're close (only investigators).
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed some missing walls in the Hospital level.
  • (Hopefully) Fixed being unable to connect to some games.
Gameplay changes:
  • Investigator skill cooldown reduced for large parties (~20% shorter cooldowns)
  • Changed the "I'm lost!" quick chat text to "There's a tape nearby!"
  • Added a time penalty when abusing the Shout skill.
  • Ghosts can see players from further distance, and they can also be seen from further when they shout.
  • When a monster catches an investigator while using the blackout power, all flashlights are fixed right away. (To avoid weird situations where people are just left waiting for the flashlight to recover to save a nearby partner).
Our next step will be to monitor game statistics during the weekend, checking victory rates for each side and game lenghts. Our target is between 66% and 80% win rate for the creature, and we're currently at 70%, so for now it's all coming up nicely :) For next week, we'll try to focus work on finding/fixing most important causes for players not enjoying the game, so if that's your case and you're not having fun, please pass by the forums and share your impressions. One of the things we've noticed and will try to fix is that some games can get too long (20+ minutes) because there's currently no time limit and games can drag out too much if neither team advances on their goals. (By the way, average game length is ~10 minutes for matches where the creature wins, and ~13 minutes for matches where investigators win). Have fun!
