Your feedback about camera/controls has been taken seriously and to this end, three new camera systems, support for mouse-driven flight/jump trajectory have been released in Build v.1.2.0. A new soundtrack "Nectar Moon" has also been added exclusively for the game!
Be sure to provide feedback on the new camera/controls. Until the existing game mechanics are in a state where everyone can enjoy and excel as existing fauna, it doesn't make sense to rush into adding new features or species.
A video overview of the new camera systems will be posted tomorrow, but for now let's dive into the patch notes:
~~
Default keys changed
Please take note of these or you'll be left scratching your head, wondering why the spider isn't flipping over like it used to :)
- Default key for "Flip Over" changed from Shift+S to Alt. Flip Over is essential to move between the underside and topside of flowers, etc
- Default key for "Chemo Filter Cycle" is now C. This is used to switch between smelling flowers and smelling other fauna.
- Free Look (new feature): Hold MMB
New Camera systems
Three new camera systems have been added to the game in addition to the existing one. Choose these from the settings menu:
Hybrid Cam is now the new default system. It provides the best of both worlds, i.e. easy movement on landscape and auto-free look while climbing. New players might want to use Player Cam which provides slightly more traditional controls. Free Cam is the original camera system and finally, Spider Cam is an experimental option, mostly for fun :)
Mouse gameplay
- Flight is now fully controllable using a mouse, flying is a lot more fun now! You can still use the old Q/E/W/A/S/D keys if you like.
- Long Jump trajectory is now controllable via mouse! A mouse has only two axes, so you for adjusting jump height you'll need to hold down RMB. You can still use only keys, this is often easier in many situations (like when hanging upside down from a flower!)
Loading screen
Loading screen added to emphasize the random map/procedural aspect of the game (and to provide an avenue for showing gameplay tips). This will be improved over time.
Bugfixes/Balancing
- Fixed a bug where AI's chemo cues were getting displayed to the player
- Aerial dodging cooldown relaxed to encourage players to use this feature more.
- Input hints added in certain situations.

- Drunk On Nectar Linux [6.07 G]
DoN aims to provide the most comprehensive nature experience gaming has ever seen. To this end, the game has been built at invertebrate-scale (a micro world) for an unprecedented level of detail. Plants in DoN are not flat props but living, growing entities that flower, pollinate and propagate across seasons like real plants. Finally, each species has unique gameplay depending on its morphology.
The current release features four invertebrate species: Jumping Spider (Phidippus Regius), Butterfly (Viceroy), Dragonfly (Common Hawker) and a Bee (Solitary) along with three flowering plants: Orange Lily, Greater Knapweed, Imperata Cylindrica (Grass) and a non-flowering plant: Fern. Trees and other flora are also featured but with only limited simulation at present.
Additional species of animals, plants and ecological phenomena are planned for addition once the game's EA goals (read above) have been met. You are welcome to vote for a creature or plant you're excited about for addition in the community forums!
