The next Dead Age
At the moment we are finishing the prototype phase for the new Dead Age, we are still fine-tuning the prototype and we are also working on an implementation of Dead Age 2 for Playstation 4 & 5 and probably Xbox as well.
Right now we are in a prototype phase, but we are pretty sure about most of the design points. This will be followed by another 2.5 years of development until 2024. Here's the updated list of what we're planning to include and it's a lot of work with increased budget and team size.
- The next Dead Age will remain a role-playing game, but there will be more focus on strategy and some simulation.
- NEW small with up to 3 survivors but also big battles with up to 18 survivors against waves of enemies, this time in real time in the style of Dragon Age 1 or Pathfinder but with a few differences. We are not trying to integrate a pause mode, but a slow-motion mode in the style of Fallout. This slow-motion skill can only be used infrequently, so the game feels faster overall. Only if you look at e.g. the tooltips of the opponents the game can be paused to have enough time to read which tactics or buffs the opponent has. We are trying to go a new way here that no other game has done before. In the next few months we will find out if the combat system is as fun as I envisioned it in my head. xD.
- There are several bases you can control and much more rooms e.g. cooking, farm animals or wild animals in cages for the hunter or traps for the defense of the bases.
- You will be able to manage dozens of survivors, which now have more attributes e.g. stress or motivation.
- The focus on strategy is also reflected in the fact that you can conquer or defend areas. The clue is that up to 7 other factions can also conquer the territories, this can result in cool battles and sometimes an alliance with a faction is important to be able to exist at all on the battlefield. Besides, zombie hordes still want to have a say.
- We are also trying to improve the storyline. The focus should not only be on other factions, but also bring the companions more into the action. This will mean that story companions (as in Dead Age 1 + 2) can not die forever, because otherwise you never know who is currently dead and who is still alive.
- Nevertheless, the player can still die and also the numerous non-story characters. Workers or soldiers that you lead to your camps because of events or quests.
- But the game is divided into 3 chapters. When you finish a chapter, the player can start at the next chapter. So he does not have to repeat the whole story.
- It also has the advantage that I, as a designer, can make the game a bit harder later on, knowing that not so many "accidental" players will complain about having to repeat numerous hours ;)
- Important decisions and consequences are listed exactly this time, so you can see chapter by chapter which decisions you have made. If you are unhappy with a decision, you can repeat the chapter accordingly.

Survive the zombie apocalypse with turn-based combat and permanent death! Manage survivors, go on dangerous scavenging runs, build alliances, craft equipment, make difficult story-influencing decisions, defend your camp against undead hordes and experience non-linear rogue-lite elements. An innovative Indie Survival-RPG!
Just after the zombie outbreak you were fortunate enough to join a group of survivors and hole up in their camp.
But that doesn't set you out of danger! Food supplies are running low, injured survivors must be tended to and materials need to be scavenged to keep the camp intact.
The zombie threat increases steadily and gangs of hostile survivors keep you on the defensive.
Every survivor should be protected because you'll need all hands on deck to defend against the dangers of the apocalypse.
Scavenge supplies in zombie-infested areas, craft survival gear and buy and sell equipment to keep yourself and your camp members alive long enough to learn the skills necessary for long-term survival.
The combat system has its roots in classic role-playing games. You can fight strategically, learn to utilize various weapon types and use a range of bombs or traps.
Should you fail to survive the apocalypse, you can purchase upgrades with medals earned in previous playthroughs to give your new character an edge to start with.
Unlocked pre-apocalypse professions of your character allow you to specialize in various jobs.
Each new playthrough offers different random missions and survivors to meet.
A praised feature of Dead Age is its non-linear story with real in-game consequences. Decisions you make in conflict situations affect the story's future.
You can choose to be a hero and save more survivors, or let them die to stock up on supplies. You can build romance relationships with other survivors or start rivalries that may have disastrous chain reactions.
Daily events offer new dangers and situations in which you must make choices that affect the survival chances of your camp.
Live long enough, and you'll have a chance to unlock one of the game's six possible endings.
