Its been sobering and alarming how the Steam marketplace has changed since we plotted the creation and release of Death by Game Show late 2014. The statistic revealing 70% of Steams current content has been released since 2015 is something any and all PC developers should be noting down at this very moment. I know we have. For all developers who have released in 2015 and 2016 to find Steam a struggle, this glut of releases is possibly part of the reasoning. Especially if you didnt reserve 50-80% of your games budget for bribes, marketing, and sexual favors. With this brand new knowledge were thinking of running a Kickstarter campaign to raise enough funds to wine and dine the gaming media, to bribe them into laughter while streaming and to subconsciously influence via blatant product placement. Good idea? We joke of course. In truth, were looking at creating a new version of Death by Game Show that simplifies so that any and all can find fun in its strangeness. However, this is only possible via Kickstarter, so we are curious - should we even try? Check out the game and let us know. Thanks for your support. http://store.steampowered.com/app/409730/

As a gamer first, and a developer second, I ask you to please support games that are different to the norm. On a weekly basis creative games fade into oblivion because they get no coverage. The importance of creativity is losing out to data science. With this in mind, when looking at the amazing deals on Steam this Black Friday please consider games that are different. Consider the importance of what your purchases signify to publishers and developers. Vote with your wallets and don’t just follow the status quo or influencers. Your actions do have the power to shape this industry. Thank you for reading. http://store.steampowered.com/app/409730/

In what has been a turbulent eight months since release and a journey where weve met a lot of wonderful people, Tchii and LavaU have broken the mold. Not only are they streaming the game but Tchii has started a fantastic Steamgifts train which is both immense in scale and generosity. You can find the train here. We just want to thank Tchii and the LavaU group for their support. We also want to thank everyone who has played the game, provided feedback and helped us grow. Please support us by checking out the trailers on the store page and letting us know your thoughts. If we can reach 10,000 wishlists the game will go on a 60% week long sale in October. Thank you and take care. http://store.steampowered.com/app/409730/

Patch 1.03 is not the only announcement today. We are also excited to be joining UltraShock Gaming, who’ll be working hard to promote this quirky and unique title. Okay so what does patch 1.03 include:
- At launch we were too cheap, in 1.02 we were too giving. The economy of 1.03 falls in the middle, so it should be just right.
- We’ve been back and forth on the difficulty, our inner masochist wants a hardcore challenge but with 1.03 it's much more balanced so anyone can play, win and have a good time.
- With a better economy and refined progress you’ll want to experiment with the games many droids and buildings - in 1.03 you can buy anything from the studio. Finally, you can put all that money to good use.
- Reduced on-screen clutter. Bye bye signs, bye bye tutorial pop-ups and bye bye building UI.
- Seven new audio tracks have been added.
- The tutorials and levels have been refined.
- We've added a Droid Noir graphics option. It makes the game high contrast black and white for those who prefer something more grizzly.

Hey everyone, patch 1.03 is delayed. We really did want the patch live before April but some of our content needs more tweaking, refinement and testing. We want to make sure 1.03 is just right - so let’s have a run down of what’s done already in 1.03:

Hey everyone, we at Oointah are still working hard to improve Death by Game Show. Our goal is to have this patch live by the end of February. It would be fantastic if you guys could provide feedback on the following:
[ 2016-02-15 10:46:06 CET ] [ Original post ]
Death by Game Show was built to be about quick fire decision making. Yet you guys made us aware that it was too punishing. We love feedback and we’ll always try to listen to it. So with patch 1.01 we have tried to address as much as possible. Patch Notes 1.01:
- Added a store function within the studio allowing the player to buy more consumable items.
- The buzzer charge and spins accumulated from collecting coins is persistent.
- Consumable droids and buildings with 81% HP or more can be packed away into inventory for future use.
- Buildings can be moved with 81% HP or more.
- The player's score is no longer reset on death.
- The studio spin bonus has been made more obvious.
- The tooltip now shows in 0.5s.
- Added a dynamic UI for droid selection. This highlights what number spawns droids and will adapt to changed numeric key bindings.
- Ensure droids and building dialogue bubble share the same cooldown to streamline screen clutter.
- Addressed a tooltip issue on the studio's left screen.
- Added first pass of backstory and context to game text.
- Updated challenges 2 to 9-7 to make it less hectic and more timely to experiment.
- All challenges from 10-1 have been modified to reflect changes in the earlier portion of the game.
- Removed several voice effects that didn’t connect with on-screen actions accurately.
- Reduced bonus scores given by completing Gold, Silver and Bronze milestones.
- Fixed the bug which stopped enemy buildings without power from highlighting red.
- Fixed a sprite issue in the Challenge Editor.
- The method to trigger tooltips with a controller has been reworked.
- Rank II Buildings now unlock at challenge 11-2 instead of 13-2.
- The Rust in Peace building now strikes based on target, rather than target's path.
- Coins sink slower than previously.
- Removed high scores on custom challenges due to cheat detection issues.
- Fixed a Z Depth issue on some building dialogue bubbles.
- Fixed an issue where information popups wouldn’t appear in Challenge Editor.
- If a player dies they return to a retry screen instead of back to the studio making it quicker back into the game.
- The droid iTCe no longer deals splash damage as there was a problem with it’s hit box.
- The droid iTCe now only hits backline buildings, aerial droids and kamikaze’s the player.
- The droid Mogey has been re-wrote to track aerial droids only. They no longer attack backline buildings. This is to balance the change to iTCe.
- The tooltips have been re-wrote to include more direction.
- Moved consumable items available forwards giving the player quicker access to items.
- Added more background art to the editor including satellites dishes and trash mounds.

Thank you for the feedback so far. We appreciate it! Whether it’s negative, critical or positive it is invaluable for us. We want to rectify issues and obviously improve the game. Our first aim is to reduce frustration. This doesn’t mean easier - but it does mean more wins, more variety and less grind earlier in the game. We also plan to roll out the game’s story. Specifically the who, what and why of Death by Game Show’s setting. This will be both in-game and via blogs. And that leaves audio… We are going to remove some of the frustrating bits while adding more variety. If you have any VO suggestions please reach out to us! Expect more information on changes tomorrow as we hope to roll out an update this week. Thanks for reading, take care and have a great day.

KABOOOM!!! It’s launch day but we’re not just announcing the game. That’s obviously releasing today, so what else could we possibly be talking about? #1 - Our competitions start now, if you are a video maker/artist or other creative type go check out the discussion forum as it may interest you. We’ve got a fantastic monthly competition going for the best stuff submitted to our community hub and workshop. #2 - We’ve added new videos to our Community Hub. These include a Let’s Play showing Challenge 9-6, an overview of the editor and how to customise our text/sprites. #3 - We’re working on 1.1 which includes a practice/skirmish mode. It will also include any bug fixes you guys (or us guys) find. So if you spot anything let us know. Or if you have some ideas on how to make it better, we’re all ears! Happy Rehabilitation Day!

Death by Game Show is a mashup of strategic risk versus reward and old school arcade. It’s what we’ve coined as Twitch Strategy. We love strategy games but find ourselves often in limbo between Tower Defense and Real Time Strategy. We wanted to create something quick to play but also challenging and gratifying. We needed that old school arcade progression - where learning patterns and honing reactions determined victory. We also love titles that leave solutions open. We chose to build sandbox challenges, limited only by space and arcade inspired objectives like earn $10,000,000 for example. There’s nothing like finding a new solution to claim victory and as each winnable consumable potentially leads to a new strategy Death by Game Show keeps pressure on the player. Death by Game Show is so much more than just over the top humor and robust customisations like sprite, text and challenge editing. It’s a complex game which is both strategic and gratifying. Please check out our videos on Steam or YouTube for more coverage. Thank you and take care.
