StratoBash is a product from my ultimate goal of creating a spiritual successor to 5089, but ended up being its own completely different game. Driven by my desire to always work on something unique, I had plans for an action RPG without guns. Instead of killing, you'd knock your enemies off platforms. A cool idea, no doubt -- I got started prototyping. The original plan started with an "open world" nature, with islands connected to each other via portals. Islands spread out in all directions. However, during early playtesting, players wanted more direction. Up was determined to be the most intuitive, but at the cost of the world being open. Further playtesting showed the bashing & item mechanics were fun, but deviated too far from 5089's core to be considered a spiritual successor. 4089 awkwardly straddled being unique & fitting into the series. Wanting to improve expectations, StratoBash became its own game, completely separate from 5089. This provided flexibility to still deliver on the unique & fun mechanics without ties. Now, what about that 5089 spiritual successor? I've got a name and a solid, yet unrealized idea. It has to be unique enough to pique interest, but hit a core mechanic 5089 players crave: procedural generation, open world, action RPG, robots, player customization, first person... stay tuned for updates! Wait, what about StratoBash? Don't worry, it will be fully supported! Bug fixes, tweaks... StratoBash will be maintained as needed.
