We're nearing in on 7 years! My how time files. It was a wilder time, with steam greenlight having its final submissions, and us here at Flamebait fresh out of university. It also was a time where Steam supported 32 bit applications for MacOS. 32-bit Mac has since become a thing of the past. None of our newer products include it, and it has at last become time to discontinue it from our very first release as well. If you play on a Mac, don't worry. We still have the 64-bit version, which has been the norm for Mac devices for a decade at this point. With that we bid farewell to our Mac 32-bit version. We will fondly remember your limited addressable space.
Bonjour, artisans unbowed!
We've found some weird postcard today! We think it's addressed to you.
---
To those of you who're playing Passpartout,
you'll find creepy critters are on the loose!
Ghastly spirits, ghosts - it doesn't matter,
For their devilish headpieces are quite dapper.
Appease them with heart and you may find,
They'll award you with said piece in kind.
----
We're not sure who the sender is, but we have a good guess.
Have fun exploring the Halloween event in Passpartout, and if you're just picking the games up, welcome!
Stay spooky!
The games are on sale during this Halloween event time!

Bonjour our fellow artist
It is getting warmer and spring-like in SwedenHope everyone is doing well!
With only five days until launch, we wanted to share the results of the Ad-poster event we held a few weeks ago! The magnificent posters you created have finally made it into Bull Street and wow did it help bring that place to life!
To be real with you were both extremely excited and completely terrified to finally release the game. Weve worked hard every day for over two and a half years to make a worthy sequel to Passpartout: The Starving Artist. In the end, were super proud of the results and hope that youll find a ton of joy in painting your heart away!
For those of you interested in a bit of Flamebait lore we were only University students when we made the first Passpartout. Now were self-proclaimed professionals delivering the sequel after 6 years. But we wouldnt have made it without the help of so, so many people. Huge thanks to Synkronosauus, our composers, for making those sweet tunes, and thanks to the interns, testers, QA, localizers, family, friends and of course you, the community. Without the love we received wed never have been able to live out our indie dream and Passpartout 2 would never have come to light
We cant wait to get Passpartout 2 into your hands!
Thanks
//Flamebait Team

Bonjour my fellow artists
Spring is right around the corner Were almost ready to announce our release, but before we do, we wanted to host a tiny creative event
There's an area called Bull Street brimming with savvy business- folk, and there are several blank ad spaces! I thought itd be fun to invite you to make up three silly or fun ad posters to be featured in the game! This can be anything from a made up fast food chain to an ad for a made up travel agency!
The call for entries is open for six days starting today! Next week on March 8th, we will announce the three ads we think fits best and put them into the game as outdoor ads.
In order to make something that works in this game there are some requirements, so please read the application form before you start! This is also the place you submit your masterful ad creation
Submit your creation
We are looking forward to seeing your wild creations // Papa Mattias
Bonjour my fellow artists
It's February already! We are so engrossed in game development that we lose track of time.
Weve just sent an electronic pigeon to everyone whos signed up, so please check your e-mail!
To make sure we select people who really want to play the closed beta were doing a second sign-up. You can sign up HERE!
If you miss out on the beta test, don't worry. The game will be fully released this spring! Oh my, thats so soon!
Oh, and what a surprise, Passpartout 2 was awarded Best Visual Art at the Taipei Game Show!! We are extremely excited to have been chosen for this award out of more than 170 amazing games from all over the world.
Wed like to say 'Thank You!' to everyone in the community who has stuck with us making our weird little games.
//Papa Mattias
Bonjour et bonne anne
Today we have two exciting things to share. Were planning an exclusive closed beta test. The idea is that well randomly select from our Newsletter subscribers to get the opportunity to check out the latest version of the game *If you haven't already subscribed to our secret newsletter, sign up here > https://www.passpartoutgame.com. Our hope is that youll try to break the game in every way you can imagine and help let us know what mischievous things you accomplished so we can get rid of them before release. But if you just want to chill out in the game thatll be totally fine as well
Secondly, I wanted to share some nice progress weve been making. Its called Bull Street and its money-loving residents will hopefully find their way into your heart, or at least your wallet. These business people are on the lookout for clever art investments as well as needing an artists hand with various business ventures
The main reason I wanted to show off Bull Street is this awesomely endearing heavily trafficked road. JUST LOOK AT THE CUTE CARS GOING VROOM! Uh, anyways, more info about the closed beta will come when were ready. The current plan is to run the Beta sometime in February, so stay tuned!
In the meantime, take care and have a good one,
//Papa Mattias
Bonjour my fellow artists!
The Winter Holidays are approaching and the Flamebait team will soon take a bit of a break. Personally Im most excited about the baby-sized Santa's elf outfit my daughter will be wearing to melt her grandmas heart. Next year well be back energized to finish up the game for you all!
Today I bring you a Holiday gift, a bit of a secret snack if you will. Its [imagine a drum roll and pause reading until you feel the drum roll has reached its climax]...
THE COLOR MIXER! In the world youll find recipes for new color palettes that you feed into this marvelous machine. Itll churn for a while until its ready, then popping out a new palette for you to enjoy!
[previewyoutube=dgRrDPyziSk;full][/previewyoutube]
This means that youll be able to unlock several different palettes to find the one you love most! Weve already shown a few of these palettes on our TikTok which you should totally follow if youre hip n cool. If there are any colors youd love to see, please let me know in our Discord community.
A pretty pig I made myself using the pastel color palette. Everything in the screenshot is work in progress and subject to change.
I tried my best shading some sort of metallic ball using the monochrome palette. Everything in the screenshot is a work in progress and subject to change.
Thats all for this month. I wish you all the best and a lovely Winter Holiday
//Papa Mattias
Bonjour my fellow artists
This is a bit of a personal one. Sometimes its easy to forget when looking at something from the outside that there are actual people making games. People with their own lives with ups and downs. While I try to be consistent I also run into the unexpected. And this time the unexpected put a bit of a delay in writing the post
The unexpected this time was something wonderful. My wife and I finally welcomed our first daughter to the world. Trust me that Im practising great restraint in not filling this post with cute baby pics (because dang, she cute). Im trying to hold off on sharing pics of her online since, well, she cant consent quite yet.
But! What about the game?! Whats going on with Passpartout?! Rest easy! While Ive been away for a short while Im now back and the rest of the team has been taking great care of the game in the meantime. For those who missed it, we finally revealed that the Passpartout 2 release window is in spring next year! So hopefully youll finally be able to get your hands on the game soon!
Until next time I leave you with a teaser for one of our new characters. Meet Flash, our radical jokester. Arguably the funniest in the punk gang - if you love tired dad jokes or infuriating puns that is. Speaking of dad jokes I feel I have to practice now, I mean, its every dads duty to embarrass their kid with bad puns, right?
Take care and have a good one,
Mattias

My name is Kalle and Ive been spending the last six months as an intern at Flamebait Games and I can tell you while hacking this newsletter that the Flamebait crew is a bunch of crazy wild cats and has no limits whatsoever... Im telling you this because it needs to come out. Telling the truth is my new life goal. Prior to this, it wasnt. I was a storyteller working with film, books and music - telling made-up stories all day long. Late in life, I found a way into the gaming industry and applied for an internship at Flamebait with the aim to expose them. To unveil their secrets. Because it has to be something, right? And wow I mean WOW!
First of all, as an intern, you expect to get simple tasks like making coffee, sorting papers, and maybe hosting an Instagram account for a week or two. Flamebait made me work! Ive been forced to make character designs, and quests and write narratives and dialogues from day one. I hosted game tests and analyzed the results. They are actually listening to what I have to say and are, at this very moment, implementing my designs into Passpartout 2. I am an intern, for christ's sake! Yes, Ive been writing professionally for 20 years but still: an intern! Why dont they want my coffee ?
I have broken the game several times - no punishment! I have on one occasion accidentally knocked a glass of water out of the lead artist's hand without retaliation. They are suspiciously kind. Or simply decent human beings.
Anyways - I guess you knew this already. What a lousy whistleblower I would be if I didn't disclose anything new. So I made a screen recording of me testing out our new tools, making a self-portrait exclusively for you. I don't know what kind of trouble I will endure for unveiling this. If they choose the Flamebait way they probably will offer me a job or something
On a more serious note, I would like to say that I am super proud of being part of this game and I hope that my involvement added a nice flavour to Passpartout 2. Youll soon be able to see for yourselves.
Yours sincerely
Kalle Carmback, Game Design intern.
Bonjour my fellow artists
Its been a while since the last one. First, the team took a well-deserved break for summer and after that, I was away in Germany for Gamescom and Korea for Busan Indie Connect! Busy times, but so much fun!!
Showing the game in Korea was a joy beyond what we couldve ever imagined. We were met with such warmth and kindness and got to hear a few personal stories from playing the first game that truly moved us. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and tried the game!
In other exciting news, we got nominated for Excellence in Art! No, win for us this time around but were super happy just to be on the radar with our cute puppet vibes! Though I have to say that the Excellence in Art should really be awarded to some of our players.
Next time around Ill be showing you some of our new tools we got cooking. In the meantime, I want to show you a huge addition to the game youve been dreaming of since you got to lay your hands on the demo. This feature is a game changer that can truly spin your world
Until next time, happy painting!
/Mattias
Bonjour our fellow artists!
First of all, thank you so much for checking out the demo! Your feedback and good vibes have given us mountains of energy to keep on cracking away at the game!
The one thing we were most excited about for the demo was of course to see all the art you cool cats would create. And oh my, you did not let us down! I was thinking Id share some of my favourite paintings.
Im sure theres plenty that Ive missed, so why dont you head over to Discord and share your art so that I can stare at it in pure amazement and awe. Also, a quick note that well be heading off for summer vacation so the team will be a bit quiet for a few weeks.
The Flamebait gang wishes you a lovely summer! Id recommend picking up a piece of paper and a pen and just doodling away in the lovely sun. Or, at least that's what Ill do!
/Mattias
Bonjour, fellow artists
Gah! Its finally time! Were beyond hyped for you to finally get your hands on a demo of the game. It's available for you to try out from today, June 13th @10AM PDT until the 20th! So, check it out while you can!
During the event, Mattias (Game Director) and Bengan (Animator) will do a developer live streaming for Passpartout 2: The Lost Artist today (June 13th) at 10 am PDT/ 7 pm CET on Steam.
We hope youll have a blast with the demo! And please head over to our Discord and shout feedback. Wed love to hear what you think!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1571100/Passpartout_2_The_Lost_Artist/
Hello fellow artists
So many of you have asked When can I play the game?, Whens the Beta?, et.c And weve channeled our inner politicians for so long by giving the vaguest of answers. By the way, if you elect me Ill make sure every citizen gets one free baguette per day. Anyways, today were politicians no more! (Unless you ask other questions were not ready to answer). Very soon youll all be able to get your hands on a slice of Passpartout 2 as were taking part in the Steam Next Fest June 2022
The demo will be available to play on Steam June 13th-20th! Weve been working hard with trimming brushes, mixing paint and wiggling them puppets and we hope youll have a blast with it! Itll be time exclusive so dont miss this chance to check out the game and give us all the juicy feedback of what you love and hate (or maybe what youre just luke-warm to).
If you cant wait and just want to spend the coming days leading up to the demo staring at an image of the game in pure hype and suspense I got ya covered! Disclaimer, dont stare for too long periods at a time, dont forget to blink and remember to eat, sleep and hydrate.
Well send out a little boop once the demo goes live so you wont miss it. But to be safe you should mark June 13th down in your little calendar or on your fridge or wherever you mark stuff down you ought to remember!
Until then, keep being as awesome as always
//Mattias
Bonjour my fellow artists!
We recently reached a milestone of 20 000 wishlists for Passpartout 2!
Were grateful and impressed by your wishlisting abilities. Its amazing to see so many people excited to pick up the paintbrush again. Speaking of brushes we recently did some improvements to the watercolor brush Id love to share with you.
Now I consider myself a mediocre artist at best, so for me its important that the brushes in Passpartout 2 help me make beautiful art. So far my favorite is the watercolor brush. It leaves behind this lovely texture that chaotically builds shapes that I can add to, helping me create some pretty sweet art. I especially like using it for drawing water or fire, but Im sure the creative minds out there can find many more uses for it! I mean, the masterpieces you made with the barebones tools of Passpartout 1 is mind blowing so I can only imagine what youll cook up with this!
Heres a little time lapse of me using the watercolor and some other tools to draw a tiny boat on the ocean, minutes before getting hugged by a big-boy octopus.
Now its time to go back to the development dungeon. Thank you for tuning in and stay awesome!
//Mattias
Come to watch a developer play Passpartout: The Starving Artist! //Bengan
Bonjour my fellow artists!
Today I wanted to share a little easter egg with you! Which I guess maybe prevents it from being an easter egg? Anyways, it'll be our secret egg!
Meet MS Karashi, Harry's trusty fishing boat. He and his daughter Gabrielle used to often go out on fishing trips. Though not so much lately as Gabrielle has gotten older.
Now what's the easter egg you ask?! Karashi is actually the name of our marketing wizard Miya's cat! This feline floofball has contributed so much in our work-from-home meetings. Though there is a bit of a language barrier as no one in the office speaks the Meowish language (^_^;)
//Mattias
P.S. Do you speak Meowish language? then join our Discord and talk with EmberCat#9665
Bonjour
While development is still intense we'd like to pause for a while to wish you all a happy Valentine (a bit in advance). Take a moment to treat your loved ones and show them how much they mean to you.
Passpartout drew a little Valentines card on a piece of paper, found near the docks. It's our little way of showing appreciation for all the love you've been giving the game so far. So thank you and stay awesome!
/ Flamebait dev team
Just in case, here is the Passpartout 2 page (*)
Heya! Mattias here, Game Director for Passpartout 2
I hope you had an amazing Winter Holiday and a great New Year! Its been time consuming but were finally ready to share some of the tools weve got cooking!
Drawing is obviously important in Passpartout so Im happy weve been able to take a ton of time to make them feel great. When designing the tools we wanted something that felt playful, was easy to use and that inspired you to create. The results? Well, you can check out the tools in action below!
Each tool has its own texture and feel and by combining them you can create some really cool stuff! The painting experience is kept in the spirit of Passpartout by keeping it easy to use. You're able to change among the many tools and change size or color. We leave layers, filters and other advanced stuff to the painting softwares out there to keep the game lighthearted and fun!
Let us know what you think in the Discord! Are there any tools you want to see in the game ?
Also, please don't forget to wishlist Passpartout 2!
/Mattias
Bonjour
Amazing news! Passpartout 2 finally has a steam page! If you wanna make the devs super happy you could go in and wishlist the game

Bonjour, Benjamin here!
You might be wondering what I've been doing since the events of the first chapter in the Passpartout saga. Here is my story so far:
After witnessing the rise of Passpartout I grew tired of the loud, rancid streets of Paris and wanted something more fulfilling; a purpose. I needed a chance to grow and help others do the same. I spoke with my wise grandfather about what to do. He recommended I move to Corsica to work as a humble tangerine farmer to gain some perspective and wisdom. With a hint of skepticism, I followed his advice and booked train tickets.
By complete chance, I was discovered by a modelling agency on the ferry ride and was invited to join them in sunny Milano. At first I ignored the invitation but after two weeks of growing and perfecting tangerines in Corsica, I felt the modelling career calling out to me. The money, the glamour, and a life of excess were all too tempting for me to pass up. I packed my bags and left my life as a farmer to become part of the refined world. I was taken in by the agency where I was cultivated, improved and shown off to the world. I had become the tangerine; a polished product made for the consumption of the masses and a golden shell of my former self.
Every crop has its season, however, and Milano had become the city I had tried to flee. The once sunny streets had now started bearing a striking resemblance to the loud and rancid streets of Paris.
Out of the blue disaster struck and my grandfather passed away, leaving his world-famous art supply store behind. I knew what I had to do and promptly booked tickets to Phnix. Now I continue his legacy by running the art supply shop. The modelling career was fun while it lasted but it was not meant to be as I have once again become the cultivator I aimed to be from the beginning.
Art is my crop and the supplies are my soil.
Anyway, business is pretty slow and we have an 80% discount on paint thinner this afternoon. Get supplies while they last!
-Warm regards, Benjamin
Bonjour everyone!
I'm Christina, the chaotic new art intern and self-proclaimed French spy at Flamebait. My speciality is stylized 3D, vibrant textures and an unnecessary amount of puns during work hours.
Currently, we're creating a lot of fun new props to populate the fresh environments of Passpartout 2, and hopefully make your future experience all the more immersive!
This is an example of what we've got in store for you: the before and after for the little house where everything begins. There's a lot of hidden details in the textures if you squint we hope you'll uncover all the little secrets we've embedded into the game, and look forward to future updates!
- Chris

Heya To get those sweet puppet vibes it's important for us to understand how big our little green fellow actually is. Bengan threw together a helpful AR demo that we wanted to share! Don't mind the corn and pea soup cans in the background. I guess that's just animator food or something that really helps you focus when perfecting the puppet mastery of their digital skeletons. [previewyoutube=2i50SNwEnQM;full][/previewyoutube] So how big is Passpartout? Our little artist is about 18 centimetres! That is 7.08661417 imperial inches, 0,0036 Swedish stenkast, 0,573 German Rheinfuss or 6,65 French pouce. Whichever you prefer! Thanks for tuning in and I hope you all had a great summer /Mattias
Heya!
I hope you're all having a great summer so far! The avid fan will recognize this fellow. It's George! He's back with an updated look and more intense emotions than ever. In Passpartout 2 you can expect to meet many familiar faces but also plenty of new ones!
P.S. It's a not-so-well-kept secret that I'm actually terrified of puppets. So don't send puppet GIF-s my way!! Luckily Gustav is doing a great job keeping them cute and wholesome so far!
How do you like his new look? Let us know what you think in the Discord!
Have a sweet continued summer!
/Mattias

Courtesy of LG Studios, Passpartout and their paint addled friends now speak Turkish! Now like never before you can navigate those menus to start a "Yeni Kariyer". So, if you ever wanted to get critiqued in Turkish, now's your chance! Thanks yet again LG Studios for localizing the game for us! Happy Painting!
Heya! We were made aware of an issue on Linux systems where the mouse cursor would go invisible after finishing a painting. As this is less than ideal when you want to... you know... click on things, we're addressing that with this patch: Changes: - New dazzling cursor for the game to entice the Linux OS to switch back to it - Fixed the painting brush cursor not correctly rendering in negative on Linux system The new cursor has also been added for all other operating systems since we love all of you equally and don't want to play favorites. Happy Painting!
For those who like keeping track, recently a PC update featuring stability improvements hit Steam with a promise of a Mac followup. After a bit of elbow grease, it's now ready for release!
Patch Notes:
- Updated the game engine, shoring up the occasional quirk the game might've had - Got with the times and committed to 64-bit version. 32-bit versions will no longer be available. - Replaced incompatible shaders with new ones. They were getting rusty anyways. - Patched up any other graphical errors This will ensure the game keeps running for you all in the foreseeable future on current devices. As for future devices running the new line of processor chips, that's a problem for future us to tackle. Happy Painting!
Have you felt that tingling anticipation of starting Passpartout?
Opening up that configuration window and meticulously setting up the perfect resolution and nigh-redundant keybindings?
Eagerly pressing play with that yearning to paint on those minuscule canvases, only for it to trip itself up before the main menu shows, prompting the PC to shut down the game?
Are you one of many running an Intel Laptop not necessarily designed for gaming but capable of it?
Then this update is for you!
With the help of some very patient people reaching out to our support, we've identified the issue to a graphical problem with Intel integrated graphics.
As telling people to jam new hardware into their devices is pretty bad support practice, we've opted to update the game itself instead.
So what's the update?
It's a big one in a sense!
To fix the problem we have updated the game engine (from the ancient Unity 5.3.8 to 2019 LTS for those curious), so the game may prove more stable on other devices as well.
This will show as an impressive amount of Megabytes to download, but functionally the game is still the very same it used to.
The most significant change you might notice is that the initial config screen is gone (no longer supported by the engine), so now you configure resolution and quality in the settings menu in-game instead.
Note also that this update is strictly for PC at the moment. Mac will get some attention soon enough. ;)
Happy Painting!
Are you ready for spoopy times? Yes? GOOD!

Happy painting!
Passpartout has been updated! We have introduced haggle as a feature, added cards you can trade, given the UI some love, and added the language of vikings and IKEA. More details below.
- Haggle: Now when you get a bid on a painting, besides from rejecting or accepting the bid, you can also choose to haggle it. If you’re lucky, you’ll get some extra cash, or you’ll end up with a customer not willing to pay as much.
- Steam Trading cards: Cards which can be traded with.
- Svenska: Also known as the Swedish language. You can now play Passpartout in Swedish.
- UI adjustments: Made some buttons glow sometimes.
