Dead Acres Reboot

Nikson and I are rebooting Dead Acres in the same manner that Dark Deception got rebooted. I think that one turned out pretty decent, so I'm looking forward to doing the same for Dead Acres. You can follow our progress with the game on our (now active) Dead Acres Twitter page. Dead Acres on Twitter Once finished, Dead Acres will sell for much more, but we will keep the price as is at a massive discount for the remainder of Early Access as a small thank you to everyone who has been so patient as I struggled to get this game finished. I promise you will be happy with the final product in a bit. Dead Acres is my tribute to old school FPS games like Blood, Doom, Serious Sam, and Duke Nukem. It will be very over the top and a lot of fun with tons of monsters to mow down.

Holiday Update

Hey everyone! Dec update time! I know I haven't updated in a couple months, so I wanted to let you all know what is going on with Dead Acres development. As I have been called out for several times, I am horrible at accurately projecting release dates. Sometimes the delays are my fault and sometimes they are due to occurrences that are out of my control. In this case it was kind of half and half. My main programmer went MIA. It's highly unlike him to not communicate and we are all a bit concerned for his safety. He has been with us for almost 2 years. We have brought on a new guy to help out, but it was one of the main reasons for the delay. The other issue was Dark Deception. This one is my fault and goes back to my (very) poor decision to develop 2 games at once. Dark Deception had a publisher milestone come due (we are working with a very well known AAA publisher), so we had to divert focus to DD for the past 2 months due to contractual obligations. It is looking pretty awesome so far though and I am working with Nikson (TJOC:Story Mode) on it. So.....what about Dead Acres??? Yes, there is actually good news for that. I am getting things back to normal and have a little breathing room with DD now. When I last updated, Stone Cold was pretty much done minus the vehicle mechanics. That is still the case and you can expect to see some new levels early in 2018. So get ready to have some fresh gameplay in the near future. From now on, I'm not going to talk about the level release dates until they are 100% playable and all I have to do is press a button to update Steam with them. That said, I just want to thank all of you for your patience and for not chewing me out daily over the past 2 momths :P. You guys are great fans and gamers and I'm 100% committed to finishing Dead Acres and fixing the bugs I've seen reported so far. If you are in the LA area, I may plan something fun for Dead Acres full launch and also give people a sneak peak at Dark Deception. Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas to everyone!!

Multiplayer v1.1

Multiplayer v1.1 is dropping tonight before midnight (PST). Here are some of the update fixes & features: - IP entry for "join game" has been removed - Joining games is now handled by a traditional matchmaker system - Games from both Steam friends & non-friends will be visible - Checkbox to filter out non-friends added - Ability to join/re-join matches already in progress added - Fixed various multiplayer bugs I hope this makes playing a match with your friends a lot easier for everyone! This is why we are in early access. You guys let me know what sucks (ex - IP entry system) and I will do my best to fix/replace it!

Multiplayer is LIVE!

Oh man, finally. Multiplayer is up and playable :D! Some compiler issues for the Linux export slowed things down a couple of days. I hope you guys enjoy it with your friends. I will be starting a thread to report multiplayer bugs, should you encounter any. A couple known multiplayer bugs that we will address before the final game launches: 1. If non-host players quit or disconnect, the host needs to quit as well and resume the game. If not, the pathfinding for enemies gets messed up, which messes up the flow of gameplay. Exiting and resuming keeps everything normal. 2. If resuming a multiplayer game immediately after a play session (without exiting the application), 25% of the time it will fail to let non-host players rejoin the game. This is fixed by restarting the game and resuming. The Stone Cold update is up next and *should* be out before the end of August. Stay tuned!

Infinite Mode

Update time! The Multiplayer update is getting close to dropping (finally). The one thing to point out is that there will be a single player mode as well (identical campaign) and that they will each reference separate save files (not shared). I am also getting rid of the level select screen for those 2 modes. Progression will be linear from start to finish. New Game and Resume Game options will launch you straight into gameplay. I understand that people will want to replay their favorite levels with their friends (after beating the campaign) without having to actually play through the campaign again. As a result, Infinite Mode will be added in before the game fully launches. This mode will allow you to replay any level that you've unlocked in single or multiplayer mode - infinitely with no day cap. You will have the opportunity to see how long you and your friends can survive in each level :)!

Multiplayer!

Hey everyone! Time for a new update on the feature that everyone has been requesting the most: multiplayer ːsteamhappyː. That said, the multiplayer update is coming very soon. We are targeting to have the push out before Steam Summer Sale hits. Additionally, the Early Access pricing will also be raised to the final launch price once the multiplayer update drops, so get the game at this cheaper price while you still can! It won't be much longer now, so stay tuned!

Weapons Early Access Reward

Just a heads up. Our launch build is set to have 30 weapons. We will add more in future updates based on player feedback. I will drop the list here shortly. I would also like to say thank you to all of the Early Access supporters by providing an exclusive reward. I am still giving it some thought as to what that reward should be. Most devs make an exclusive weapon skin, weapon, or player model. It could also be an exclusive RV upgrade. Additional stuff like exclusive Dead Acres wallpaper would be easy to add in. I would love to hear your suggestions. As usual, keep your comments appropriate for all ages :P.

Progress Report 1/5

Hey everyone! Quick update. Dead Acres progress is still churning along. Thank you all again for your patience during Early Access! I know we have dropped the ball several times, but a full launch sometime in late February or mid March is looking very likely. I don't have a solid date yet, but that's what I would bet on. We will update with the levels before then to gather some feedback from you all. Another cool bit of news is that due to our partnership with HTC, there will be a Vive VR version of the game that will release shortly after the PC release. Oh, and multiplayer? Ya that's a go :). Hope everyone enjoyed the Holidays with their families and got to play a lot of great games :D. More to come soon!

Good Times Ahead!

Hello everyone! I've (understandably) received a lot of complaints about the lack of development and level updates. I wanted to get everyone up to speed on what is going on over here, so you don't think we've abandoned Dead Acres. Dead Acres is currently 90% complete art asset-wise and 100% complete for music. We still have a lot of bug fixing and code work to do and it's only 45% complete. So you will ask, why no updates? Where are the new levels? Over the past few months code work has been on hold while we tried to build up enough money to pay our coder to finish the levels (the guy has gotta eat). Another issue is that we are also dividing our time between this and Dark Deception. Dark Deception has a publisher and became a big time obligation for us. This limited our opportunities to work on Dead Acres during the summer. So those months were a wash for Dead Acres development. Thankfully, the time lost was not completely wasted. We were able to get investments from some large tech companies thanks to our efforts on Dark Deception and our VR development in general. This will allow us to play catch up in the coming months and get Dead Acres wrapped up. So to circle back to the issue....why wasn't Dead Acres updated more often? Money, plain and simple. We didn't have enough of it to keep the ball rolling. Now we do. So thanks to everyone for your patience and to the people who have continually sent us helpful suggestions and feedback as things lagged on our end. It has taken much longer than we wanted, but the final game will be worth the wait. At the very least, I hope this will show that we are very dedicated to finishing Dead Acres. We will not leave you guys hanging.

Quick Bug Fix

Just pushed an update that fixes a few bugs: - Fixed spitter zombies causing "pigeon poo" effect in Dead Country. - Fixed chainsaw turret not animating properly. - Fixed reinforced wall gate not showing sign post on top half - Improved grenade launcher. Now explodes on impact, but be careful as it will damage your assets as well if they are within the blast radius. Not for close encounters :P. - Fixed not being able to place Jack statue asset from store. - Balanced wood wall, reinforced wall, and brick wall health.

Next 2 Levels - Stone Cold and Camp Fubar

Here's a quick summary of what's up next with Stone Cold and Camp Fubar: Stone Cold - Jack knows where you can get some heavier artillery. Unfortunately, on the way there your RV runs out of gas in the middle of a radioactive desert wasteland, leaving you both at the mercy of attacking mutant sand worms and nuclear zombies. To make matters worse, all gas in the area has been seized by a large bandit gang. Camp Fubar - The spot Jack spoke of is actually an old Army depot. The heavy weaponry is definitely there, but well-guarded by an overzealous Army general with a fierce army (and a dark secret). He won't give up his cool toys without a fight and the place is crawling with zombie soldiers too. Only the strong survive! These levels will introduce new enemies, new bosses, enemy vehicles (both ground and air), player controlled turrets (limited ammo), new crops, heavier weaponry, and new defense items for your farm.

Rush Hour is Live!

It's been a long time coming, but the Rush Hour update is now live :). If you've already beaten Dead Country, you might have to start a new game. Here's what's in the new update: Features: - Longer days and nights (50% longer) - New weapons: Crossbow and Sniper rifle - New traps: the grinder - New items: trampoline - New zombies: taxi zombie, zombie pigeon, exploding hobo zombie, SWAT hulk zombie, midget hooker zombie - Human enemies: Knife and gun thugs - New music for Dead Country and Rush Hour - New boss: Verminzilla - Visual improvements: DoF, color enhancement, and bloom lighting - Improved flamethrower damage - RV can now be upgraded to increase defense Bug fixes/Balancing: - Fixed Jack not appearing on some mornings. - Being able to plant crops under world trees. - Spitter Zombies are now easier to kill - Titan and Hulk zombies are stronger - Blood audio bug pausing all other sounds fixed - Accessing the store, your inventory, or the pause menu now pauses the passage of time. - Can now quit back to the level selection menu - Save system improvements Stone Cold is next and takes things out into the unforgiving desert wasteland. Enemy vehicles and player controlled turrets will be introduced :). This level is progressing much faster and should be out within the month if all goes well. It's just going to keep getting crazier. Dead Country Update

Small update: Dead Acres performance and visuals are getting a boost! We've added some small visual flairs like depth of field, bloom lighting, color correction, chromatic aberration, and tone mapping to the game. We've also gone through and made some changes to dramatically increase performance (materials change, dynamic batching, etc). The game will run a lot faster soon for those who were having speed issues previously.

Rush Hour Progress Update #1

Rush Hour is 90% done. There are just a couple game breaking bugs we are working on at the moment that are holding things up. Our previous coder is also transitioning to a new job and we are getting his replacement up to speed. The first couple level updates will likely be slower, but things should speed up a lot as we go along. Just know that we are working diligently. I could have put out Rush Hour as it is now, but the current bugs would likely just upset everyone, so I'd rather delay and put out something you will actually enjoy. Rush Hour Preview

Hey everyone! Hope you are enjoying Dead Country so far! Rush Hour is almost ready. Here's a quick preview of what's coming: - armed human enemies - new city themed zombies (pigeon zombies!) - new boss to battle (if you can survive 24 nights in the big city) - new level music (Dead Country is getting an upgrade too) - new boss fight music - new weapons (sniper rifle and crossbow) - first RV upgrade - new store items (trampoline - get ready to bounce!) - bug fixes - weapon balancing and fixes (the grenade launcher will actually be useful!) Our goal is to get all of the levels completed and then polish. Your feedback is vital! Early Access releases have gotten kind of a bad rap from irresponsible developers, but feedback gathered from Early Access is essential to making a great game and fixing bugs. With your help, we are looking to make this into an awesome game worth your hard-earned money. We are curerntly hard at work on the Rush Hour and Stone Cold levels. We are shooting to have one or both out before the end of December. In the meantime, try out the Dead Country level and let us know what you like, what you don't like, and any bugs that you see.
