I have teamed up with Digerati Distribution and Kittehface Software to make this a reality. Porting to all three consoles was a near impossible task to accomplish in a reasonable time frame by myself. It made more sense to give the project to talented and experienced professionals, which in turn would allow me to focus on things I am better at. If you are wondering, Digerati was the 9th highest rated publisher on Metacritic for the year 2018, so they have an established and proven track record of quality (https://www.metacritic.com/feature/game-publisher-rankings-for-2018-releases).
The Franchise Mode is now live! Create, recruit and manage your own custom team of inmates in a futuristic world of dystopic blood sports! You will also notice some small quality of life updates here and there to the rest of the game. For a full log of changes, I recommend reading through prior Franchise Mode announcements. You will also notice a rebranding of the games promotional assets to be consistent with the console ports.
Special thanks to every Beta Tester who helped me make the Franchise Mode happen! I honestly couldnt have done it without all the amazing feedback and bug reports that you folks came up with.
PLEASE NOTE: One week from this posting there will be a price increase to match the added content. I didnt want to raise the price immediately upon release of the Franchise mode because I wanted to give everyone a fair shake at the current base price. Those that have been following for a while will know that I originally planned to release the game for $15 US, but cut the price in half because I decided to cut the Story Mode from the game at the last minute (I rather disliked it). So instead I made the Franchise Mode to fill the desire for extra content. Now that I am confident in the amount of content in the game, I will reraise the price to the original slated price.
I will of course be offering many generous discounts and promotions the future as well :) So there will still be plenty of opportunities to grab your copy at a great price.

I am very thankful for everyone who has offered me feedback, suggestions and bug reports. This honestly wouldn't be possible without all y'all:D As of now, the development of new content for SBH is paused while console ports are underway (Xbox One is already guaranteed, others to be announced soon!). This is because developing the build further while simultaneously trying to get it to work on consoles is simply not feasible. Therefore, I plan to officially release the Franchise Mode update live on Steam when the consoles ports are ready to double my marketing efforts.
Also, I have enlisted the help of a 3rd party (to be announced in the near future) to help me through this process to ensure the ports are of high quality and meet my personal standards. After I release the console ports and the Franchise Mode update, I will assess the performance and determine the viability of future content updates.
Since I have brought aboard some help with console ports, and because the nature of the process requires some downtime and waiting for things to go through, e.g. waiting for PEGI / ESRB raitings, I have begun work on my next game (also to be announced soon :D). Still, SBH remains my top priority.

Hi again folks, Here is the latest build of the Franchise Mode. This one mostly contains bug fixes as well as some balancing and difficulty tweaks. Note to Mac users: I have been having some issues with the Mac build. It seems the issue is related to something on the Steamworks side of things. I will be trying some new things with it over the next few days, if you have time, please give it a try and report your experience in the discussion forum. - Adjusted the effects the Robustness Stat had on injuries and such. Robustness is now a bit less effective at preventing injury.
- Adjust the distribution of injury rates among players with Robustness 75+
- Adjusted the rate at which the difficulty ramps up. Should get more difficult a little bit faster now.
- Fixed a bug related to inmate death and task assignments.
- Fixed a bug where the stats page wasn't properly tracking lifetime assists.

Hi folks, I just uploaded new Windows, Mac and Linux builds with a load of bug fixes that the community helped me find. I also made some minor balancing tweaks and a few small quality-of-life improvements here and there. Note regarding the Mac Build: There has been some issues getting the Mac build to launch. I will just have to keep trying until I get it figured out. If anyone has any insight, please do not hesitate to share. Hopefully this build will work :D Thanks for being patient! Changelog
- Disabled a few lingering debug commands that were interfering with normal play.
- Changed the Steamworks API library to x86. This should fix the compatibility issues with 32 bit Windows Operating systems.
- Fixed some filename issues that were causing issues on Linux.
- Fixed a bug where trying to sell a player with an empty roster resulted in a crash.
- Fixed a bug where the Sudden Death achievement was being falsely awarded upon a loss.
- Fixed a bug where the rent payment was not correctly resetting from season to season.
- Fixed a bug allowing player stats to go above 100.
- Fixed a bug where drugs would go into negative duration.
- Fixed a bug where goalies were not gaining experience.
- Players are now warned about quitting with unsaved progress.

Hi Folks, The Franchise Mode is ready for Beta Testing. The beta must be opted-into, so for now the retail release version will remain the same until beta-testing is complete. The Franchise mode is about 80-90% complete overall. I would like to add a bit more content as well, so please do not consider this a final build.

FAQ / Important Notes
- The game has been transferred from XNA 4.0 to Monogame 3.7. This should increase compatibility and performance across the board.
- Mac and Linux builds are included in the Beta. They have been moved from FNA to Monogame 3.7 to increase compatibility.
- There will be bugs. Please consider that the build may crash and Franchise Saves may be lost. (Hopefully not!)
- Franchise save files may be outdated when further beta builds are released, or when the final version is released. I am not going to waste time on backwards compatibility for the Beta.
- I have no means to test the Mac / Linux builds personally. If they don't work initially, please make a post in the discussion forum and we will work together to get them up and running.
- "Can I stream / make a video of the Franchise Mode Beta?" Yes, all I ask is that you title the Stream / Video to include "BETA", or otherwise indicate to the viewers that it is not the final version.
- There may be font issues at certain resolutions. If you notice any, please take a screenshot of it and include it in a post along with the resolution you are using.
- Transferring from XNA to Monogame changed certain behaviors related to the audio. The Audio / Music volume levels may have changed.
- All Franchise Mode data is stored in plain text and can be altered. Be careful not to change the number of lines. I don't have a key for which value does which yet.
- The master list of Player Names, Crimes, Team names, etc. are all stored in plain text and can be altered. Please avoid non-standard symbols or characters, as this may cause issues for the game.
- You will also notice some minor changes to other game modes, e.g. Exhibition Mode. However, regardless of the fact the Franchise Mode uses a stat system, the gameplay of the other modes will remain intact and preserved.
- I am looking for ideas for what new Steam Achievements you folks would like to see in the game.
- Some of the other countries player names have been ran through Google translator... so... if you see anything that seems really wrong, please report it.
- Because of limitations of the font, certain characters won't have the umlauts or accents that they should. I am looking into ways to fix this issue.
- There likely may be a price increase that coincides with the release of the final build of the Franchise Mode.

The Franchise Mode is coming together nicely. I am officially planning on releasing the franchise mode update prior to the release of the Xbox One port. The Xbox One port will follow rather shortly after that. I still don't have any exact date for release of the franchise mode update.
In the Franchise Mode, you will be playing as a corrupt coach, who is willing to do anything to see his team win, including administering illegal performance enhancing drugs and buying spare organs on the black market. Don't worry if the black market kidney transplant goes wrong, or if one of your players OD's on anabolic steroids; your team will be comprised of recruits straight from prison.
There will be a pool of randomly generated players to recruit and build your team. Each will feature randomized names, stats, experience and more:
Players will also have a randomly generated medical history as well as criminal history:
You can check the Official League Calendar to know which randomly generated team with unique players, you will be facing on any given day:

I don't have a release date just yet, but should have a better idea in the near future. This is my first console port I have ever done, so it has been a bit of a learning experience along the way, so I really appreciate everyone being patient with me.
After that is released, I will be looking to do some content updates. I already have a bit of new content for the game, but for the sake of the port, I do not want to possibly introduce new bugs into the game, or else it will be hard to determine if its an issue with the port or the new content.
In the meantime,
I invite everyone to post their suggestions and ideas for new content in the game's discussion forum, or you can comment them below.
I have some new challenge mode scenarios already completed and a few more in the works. I am also prototyping some new teams (with some extra variety beyond a new color and name: e.g. a Power Hockey / Wheelchair Hockey team). People have also expressed some interest in a season mode in which there are individual players with unique names and stats, etc. I would definitely like to hear what people would want from a season mode. Hi, Based on community feedback, I have decided to add a tutorial mode to Super Blood Hockey to teach some of the basics and to create an easier atmosphere to get adjusted to the controls. The tutorial mode will teach you how to pass, how to score, and how to fight. I might consider adding a 2nd tutorial to teach advanced techniques as well. NOTE TO MAC AND LINUX USERS - Please note that the updates to the Linux and Mac build will follow shortly (max a few days). I want to release only the Windows build until I am sure there are no major bugs, then I will apply the changes to the Mac/Linux build. If you encounter any bugs, please make a post about it here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/532190/discussions/ Face-off bug status: There has been a bug where players fail to show up for a face-off. I currently have no means of reproducing this bug (if you figure out how to reproduce it, please contact me and you will be rewarded). Hi everyone, Thanks to the feedback from the very helpful Mac beta testers, I can now say that Super Blood Hockey supports macOS. I really appreciate everyone who took the time to post some feedback and bug reports.

Future Plans
As far as what is next for Super Blood Hockey, I would like to bring the game to a console (Xbox One most likely), but I am still awaiting to resolve some business related things. Then I would like to start working on new content. I may also launch the console version concurrently with a content update. The new content I would like to work on based on feedback from the community would be a Career/Season Mode of some sort. This would likely include some team management aspects as well as some sort of progression system. I also have some ideas for some new challenges and corresponding special options, if you folks have any ideas for cool challenges or special options you would like to see, please don't hesitate to tell me! I am still experimenting with a multi-colored jersey palette so I can expand the selection of teams, but I have yet to find something that actually improves visibility / makes it easier to tell teams apart, etc. Loren
Hi folks, The Mac beta is ready for testing. Any one can access it :) I don't personally own a Mac so I have no means of testing this build myself, so I will need your patience and your feedback to make this happen. If the game does not initially launch from Steam, try navigating to the folder and launching the game directly.
How to Access the Mac Beta:
Step 1. Right click on Super Blood Hockey in your Steam Library and go to Properties. Step 2. Under the betas tab, enter the password: EnableHipsterMode and then select the build from the drop down menu.

Hi Folks, Super Blood Hockey now supports Linux/SteamOS. I really appreciate everyone who participated in the Linux beta and helped me work through all the issues. I couldn't have done it without all of you. Next update I will be adding everyone that helped to the credits section of the game. Hi everyone, I need your help to get the Linux port running. The current build may not launch. I am currently trying to determine whether there is an issue with the port, or my Linux install. How to access the Linux Port
- Right click on Super Blood Hockey from your Steam Library. - Click Properties and then navigate to the Betas tab. - Enter WindowsSux0rz in the access code field.

Hi, This update is a small one, just a few bug fixes. Also, if any one experiences the bug where players do not show up to a face-off, please post about it in the discussion forum. I am having trouble figuring out what triggers this bug, and without being able to recreate it on my side its proving challenging to fix. It seems to never happen for most people, but a few have seen it multiple times. This leads me to believe there is some behavior or action that can trigger it.
Patch Notes
- Fixed a bug where fights were triggering far too often in the 12 vs 12 Mega Rumble.
- Implementing a trial solution for the faceoff bug. This may or may not fix it. If this bug happens to you please make a post about it in the discussion forum.
Hi, Some still feel the game is too difficult even on Very Easy. I have changed the names of the settings, but Easy is now even easier than Very Easy was before.
Difficulty Changes
- Modes have been renamed. I have shifted them all up one. Very Easy is now Easy ; Easy is now Medium ; Medium is now hard ; etc in that fashion.
- The difference in difficulty has been exaggerated a bit. Easy modes are easier, hard modes are a bit harder.
Myths about the difficulty dispelled
- No one nation is better than any other. I have not rigged the game in favor of Finland or any other country.
- The AI on your team is exactly the same as the AI on the enemy team. If you feel the enemy teams AI is way better than yours, than that is just your imagination.
- The Goalie AI is exactly the same on both sides. Your goalie is not significantly worse than the enemies goalie.
- The AI does not cheat in anyway. They are not more likely to score, or anything of that sort.
Hi folks, I have been receiving feedback that some have found the game to be especially challenging, even on easy difficulty, because of this I have introduced a "Very Easy" difficulty setting. There is also now a "Very Hard" difficulty setting as well, for those that want an even more challenging experience. If you are still having issues scoring and winning then check out this guide by a community member. If you encounter any issues, please post about it in the discussion forum and I will reply to you ASAP. There is one known large bug remaining, but it is somewhat rare. If you encounter a moment where the players do not show up for a face off, possibly resulting in the game hanging, then please post any details about it in the discussion forum: e.g. what mode you are playing, what you just played prior, what team you were, etc. Anything you might think of could be useful. - Fixed a bug related to SFX/Music volume settings being set above 100
- Fixed a bug on the leaderboards where global rank wasn't being displayed properly.
- Fixed a bug where the Special Options background sprite would be out of alignment if the resolution of the game was just changed.

Troubleshooting
- [SOLVED] If the game never launches: You are missing the XNA Runtime. Please download the following, install it and then reboot your computer and try launching the game again: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20914
- [SOLVED] If the game crashes randomly throughout a match: It is likely because you have set either the SFX Volume or Music Volume set above 100. If you do, please lower both the SFX Volume and Music Volume to 100 or lower.
- [Feedback requested] Players didn't show up to face off and the game froze:This is another bug that I am still chasing down. If you start a match and players fail to show up for the face-off, please make note of what game mode you are currently playing and what game mode you played right before that match and tell me. I require more information to chase this bug down, so if you encounter this bug, please consider posting any information you might think is relevant. Hi Beta Testers, This one is just a few small bug fixes. I also did some 4 player local coop testing on a TV and felt the player indicator ring colors were hard to tell apart, so I hopefully improved their visibility. - Fixed a bug where the challenge mode stats were incorrectly uploading to the Most Violent Game leaderboards.
- The Most Violent Game Lleaderboard has been reset. It will take 10 entries before it will display properly in game.

Hi again Beta Testers, Once again, thanks for the excellent feedback. This next build represents a possible release version of the game (barring any emergency bug fixes). I would appreciate it if you folks would give everything possible a play through and make sure nothing horrible goes wrong, e.g. crashes/bugs/bad experiences/etc. Also, any beta testers that have left me feedback, either here on steam, twitter, etc. will be included in the credits for the game. Patch Notes
- Added a tournament loss screen for team Sweden.
- Added a credits sequence under options.
- Fixed a bug for higher resolutions not properly displaying the menus.
- The "Most Violent Game" and "Biggest Blowout" stats/leaderboards have been reset. This is because of balancing changes and bug fixes leading to inflated scores. The leaderboards won't properly display until there are at least 10 scores in total.
- Added a 2nd intermission track to be triggered at random.
- Fixed a bug where using the gamepad wasn't triggering the victory music for the tournament win screens.
- Fixed a sound bug that would cause a momentary blip of sound right before a new game started.
- Adjust the movement speed of manual goalie control (turns out faster response time is harder to control).
Hey beta testers, Your excellent feedback has been keeping me motivated. I have another update for you guys to test out. The option to use Manual Goalies is now available, once you unlock it by completing the manual goalie challenge.
