Look at that - it's already May! Is time speeding up or is it just me? Don't feel that did so much in April, but if we look back at it - it was something! One of the biggest achievements was showing off Area 86 at GameDev Days Estonia. Meet many interesting people and watched with big interest how people interact with Area 86! Here comes the summary:

  • Recieved pretty positive feedback!
  • One person managed to stuck so bad with the robot, that it did not want to move at all. Thanks to him - the bug is fixed now :)
  • From all the players only ~3 did not like it. And the reasons was that it's too hard for them! At least they tried.
  • Some people got super excited already at first steps.
  • Some did pick the controller without any hope that they will like it. But after playing it for more than ~1min. They changed their opinion and where impressed!
  • Feedback from players - pure gold!
The magic controller that did survive all the madness!
Overall - very happy that did showoff Area 86 at the event and meet interesting people! As it comes, after such events you feel very exhausted.ːsteamboredː So the work on Area 86 slowed down. Little bug fixes here and there but nothing impressive! But wait till the weekend started - power was back and work continued with a new twist. Did some impressive fixes and feature improvements. Global overview of the changelog:
  • Massively improved item picking up!
  • You can finally pick/throw chairs :D
  • Small item throwing should be more controlled
  • Fixed wall button interaction
  • Fixed not jumping/stuck player bug
  • Fixed glass not breaking bug
  • Improved Level 2 [ lighter box top, nonbreakable window visual ]
  • Improved physics stability
  • Reduced robot smashing volume when hitting with max speed
How will you use the chair?
P.S. Did I mention that Björn did an awesome game critique? You can check it out at: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/252116818?t=02h02m40s

    Area 86 Linux [211.98 M]

  • Public Linux depots

  • We all know about Area 51
Would you believe that there is even more such places?
We just acknowledged that there is Area 86

Sources say it contains artificial intelligence research facility with
stuff that is not explainable to us!
We receive signals from it, but we have hard times figuring out how to use them.
And we don't know from what part of space it's coming from!
But we made a progress and now we can transfer your input back to the sender!
Here is some feedback on what did we discover by sending our input:

We get to control a robot.
Robot movement is very destructible and we broke many items in our path.
There is also a possibility to pick, throw & activate items while using the robot.
An unknown source that gives our robot tasks with hints on how to progress further!

    That's what we did discover.
Possible that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Further discoveries are in your hands!

    Area 86 Features:

    • Smooth physics-based gameplay
    • Destructible environment and items
    • Tasks with hints that give you more confusion
    • Secret places and hidden objects
    • Unexplainable events
    • Controller friendly
