The latest update for Castle Clamber is now live! Here's a summary of what's included: New features:
- New potion power ups with a variety of effects, each with its own advantage or disadvantage in different situations
- More achievements
- Updated background artwork
- Revamped menus with full controller support
- Analogue controller input now affects player movement
- Multi-threaded map loader for buttery smooth transitions
- Removed bbcode from news ticker
- Prevent showing incorrect level time if no personal best found
- Fix players sticking to crates when pushing them off the edge of a platform
- Fix players falling through more than one floor when dropping through a platform and touching a wall
- Fix being able to infinitely farm the Magic Hat for points
- Game is paused automatically when opening the steam overlay
- Game is paused automatically if a controller is disconnected
- Game starts in full screen mode when running steam in big picture
The most notable addition is the new potions - these drop at random from defeated enemies or broken crates. Collect one by running over it, and it'll cast its spell for a limited time. Each colour potion has a different effect which can help (or hinder!) the player in a given situation. Keep an eye on the duration icon at the bottom of the screen to see when it runs out. [previewyoutube=-8_iisQMl-w;full][/previewyoutube] Also in this update is full controller support for Xbox controllers and direct input devices, thanks to the updated navigation control for the menus. Now you can easily enjoy Castle Clamber from the couch in big picture mode in Steam! We really appreciate all the feedback we get, so make sure to let us know what you think! Thanks for playing, and happy clambering!
The 1.5 update is now available in beta for anyone who owns the game. This feature update adds new potions which give the player an array of special abilities! Also in the update is a revamped menu layout with full controller support as well as a selection of bug fixes and performance improvements. To try out the beta simply right click the game in your library, choose properties then the beta tab. Select the beta from the drop down list to opt in. If you do try out the beta do please leave some feedback! Many thanks, and happy clambering...
Another small patch, which addresses the following issues:
- Round timer now pauses when the game is paused
- Map 2 - 26 wasn't teleporting players correctly
- Fixed some crashes in rare cases where animations were played on dead entities
This is a small patch that addresses user reported crashes which can happen in some edge cases. It also includes a few tweaks to some maps here and there to improve quality. If you were having issues before please try out this version and let us know your experience! Many thanks, and happy clambering!
This is a small update which brings the library, xygine, used by Castle Clamber up to date. The latest version addresses the way memory was assigned to sprite animations and shader uniform bindings. Happy Clambering!
This update rolls up some fixes released by the support libraries used by Castle Clamber, generally small improvements in reliability and performance. Happy clambering!
This is a small release which attempts to address some user reported bugs such as random crashes around level 20. Be sure to leave any feedback you might have!
This update is a fairly large overhaul to the game mode, bringing fixes, tweaks and whole new features. The change list includes:
- All new renderer featuring 3D effects and real time lighting
- New animations
- Improved physics
- Many bug fixes and performance improvements incorporated from the latest version of xygine
- New steam features such as network play via remote play together and rich presence
- Updated game play with added high score challenges and time trial leaderboards
- New enemies and bonuses
- More achievements
It's been a while, so it was time to give Castle Clamber a bit of love. The most notable change is the brand new renderer which is now 2.5D and supports fancy dynamic lighting effects! Networking has been completely overhauled too, opting to take advantage of Steam's Remote Play Together feature, which offers a great experience if your platform supports it. There are also many new smaller improvements, such as new animations, updated graphics, added achievements and stats, tweaked physics, as well as a time-attack leaderboard. As this is a fairly major re-working there are bound to be a few bugs too, which is why this is a beta release. This is particularly true on the mac platform since Apple's release of Catalina, those of you still running Mojave are much less likely to experience problems. As always feedback is welcome, particularly for bugs, as well as suggestions for any new features! To try the beta version simply right click the game in your library, select the Betas tab in the game's preferences and opt in to the beta branch.
We're trying out some new netcode in Castle Clamber, starting with a client side update which should make everything feel a little less laggy. If you want to check it out and offer some feedback, please do! Simply right click on the game in your library, choose Properties and opt into the beta. Thanks!
Fresh out of beta this latest version fixes connectivity issues for online multiplayer, for those who were having trouble with the old lobby system. Collision detection has also been tweaked, as well as compatibility testing been carried out with macOS 10.14 Mojave. The main menu now also includes a handy news feed which displays any announcements in a ticker across the bottom of the screen. Don't forget - if you're hosting a game behind NAT and/or a firewall you will need to forward port 27015 to your host computer. Thank you to everyone for their support and patience, and don't forget we love to hear any feedback you have. Happy clambering!
This version has improved online multiplayer match making, which should also work cross platform between Windows and mac. It also uses the latest version of the xygine framework which includes updates to the collision detection. To get the beta just right click on the game in your library and opt-in under the beta tab. Please make sure to leave any feedback you have including any new bugs which may have popped up. Thanks to everyone for their continued support!
Unfortunately a few users have reported difficulties playing online which we've narrowed down to a problem with Steam match making and an incompatability with the enet networking library which Castle Clamber uses. We're currently working on overhauling the network play side of things which may take a few weeks or possibly even longer - but as we're keen to get multiplayer out to as many people who've missed out so far as we can, the beta branch of Castle Clamber is now available. Simply right click on the game in your library, select properties, click the beta tab and then opt-in. The beta currently only targets Windows but will sporadically be updated for mac too. Right now online games should work - but if you're hosting and are behind NAT you'll need to forward port 20715, and allow it through any firewalls you may have too. Please leave any comments/bugs/suggestions for the beta as all constructive feed back is valuable. Happy clambering!
This small update fixes a few cosmetic issues such as incorrect tiles in some maps on the East Wing, and UI graphics appearing on top of the game ending animation.
This update not only aims to squash bugs and improve stability, but includes a host of new content:
- 3 New Enemies: Swoop the Owl, Doris Poopsnail and Proximity Mines
- All new tutorial to introduce the controls and gameplay, available from the main menu
- Overhauled maps and graphics, new layout for the West Wing, and new sound effects
- Two new achievements: First Steps and Two Can Play That Game
The update includes:
- Fixed Memory corruption in data shared between threads
- Improved performance with render textures
- Changed initialisation sequence of Steam servers in multiplayer
- Added highlighting of clickable items in the Help menu
This update brings a few bug fixes, as well as polishes the menu system slightly. Thanks to everyone who offered feedback! Fixes:
- Killing the Squire while wearing the crown now counts towards the achievement
- Player rubber banding has been severely reduced when dropping through the bottom of levels
- Dropping non-explosive crates on enemies has a much higher chance of defeating them
- UI now has a custom cursor
- Help(?) menu button now highlights when the mouse cursor is over it
- The help menu now has a button to access the advanced options (which are still available by pressing F1)
Thanks to everyone who made this a great launch day! I've just released a small update to fix leaderboards potentially hanging in the in-game viewer when selecting 'Friends only' view, bringing the version to 1.0.1325. Thanks for playing, and I look forward to adding new features and polishing any rough edges over the coming months. Happy Clambering!

Reclaim the food they stole and carry it to the waiting Princess Niamh to collect your prize and earn a place in the world online rankings.
