Hi everyone! This is coming as a late update on the status of the game; unfortunately it has been put on a hiatus and I deeply apologise for not mentioning this sooner as this has been the state of development for the past year. I want to re-assure people that I do really care about this project and that it was not a quick money-making scheme. The current demo available took me several months to make and had many hours of planning and re-structuring put into it to ensure that I was making the right game. I fully intended at the time to see this project through and see a community built around the game. However as I began working on the next few areas of the game I encountered issues in my personal life as well as development issues. I was dealing with some mental illness related issues and just couldn't bring myself to continue working on it. Additionally I felt that the game was getting too repetitive due to the simple (and constricting) mechanics and everything just kinda halted; I wanted to add more to the game but I felt like it would compromise the overall experience I was trying to provide. I feel like I have since overcome a lot of my struggles with my mental illnesses that were holding me back at the time and now have a stronger understanding of some illnesses I wish to represent in this game and would also like to make some kind of message as for how to overcome certain struggles. Ultimately I do want to return to this project one day and finish it since it does mean a lot to me and it was clear that many people were quite impressed by what I had made. Whenever I do return to the project it will likely have some big fundamental changes to it but I will try to salvage what I can from what I've already created. I apologise again to everyone that was expecting more from me by this point as it was certainly not my intention. I would also like to greatly thank everyone that has supported this game and even provided useful feedback. As soon as I feel that the time is right to continue this project you will all be notified and then the ball can get rolling again. Lots of love, Yan. P.S. I noticed at some points that some people had not the best reactions to seeing mental illnesses integrated into a game, and whether I am "qualified" to do so. I would like to respond to this by saying that not only have I been/am affected by some of these mental illnesses, but I am also greatly interested in them as a subject. Through this I want to, with this game, bring more attention to mental illnesses and hopefully even send a message on how to overcome certain struggles. This being a "game" in no way aims to trivialise or make 'fun' of the delicate subject and instead should be looked at as an 'interactive experience' that acts as my artistic interpretation and expression of the subject. I have deliberately thought to exclude a lot of typical game mechanics to not compromise the overall aim of the experience (which I was alluding to before). I hope that, when this project is completed, it helps raise awareness and hopefully even helps people that are suffering.
Hello all!
Firstly I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful feedback and would like to announce that Metanoia has passed 100 sales! Really can't believe it and I'm so happy to see so many people enjoying the game especially in its early stage.
So, regarding today's patch, as a result of customer feedback, the following changes have been made:
-Hide cursor during gameplay (there was a bug where the cursor would remain in the centre of the screen).
-Better caps on settings (the maximum value for certain graphical settings are now much more practical as having it all the way to the top isn't unnecessary and very intensive).
-ADHD Knock Down game ball fix holding position (I couldn't replicate this but perhaps re-uploading has fixed the issue? I will await further feedback).
-ADHD better wording to help people understand what to do (Signs and UI are less vague and should keep more people from getting lost and confused).
-ADHD infinite jumping above tents.
-Depression wider platforms, more checkpoints throughout challenges (The floating platforms challenge and the crushers challenge now have an added checkpoint half way through).
-Set resolutions on Settings to what the monitor supports (No more unsupported resolutions in the resolutions dropdown menu).
-Intro pop-up resolutions removed (Launching the game from Steam now plays the game right away).
Since the release of the Early Access 0.1 version I have been listening to your feedback and have made the following changes to the game. Improvements: -Added signs in the island to help you navigate to the levels (this may just be temporary since the island isn't finished yet and if the player misses the tutorial tour from the beach). -Added a "Respawn" button in case the player gets stuck. It can be seen in the Control Mapper and can be activated via "0" on keyboard or left-centre button on a gamepad. Fixes: -Patched up area in rocks where you can get stuck. -Unlockable credits portal functions properly now. Thanks for the feedback!
Today marks the official public release for Metanoia and it's currently going with 10% off. Even in Early Access I present a highly polished and a unique experience full of plenty of replayable content. Explore the vast land of the mind and confront multiple mental illnesses as you go through different gameplay styles and genres. Happy gaming!
