Updated Level 99 Games Community Guidelines Service Terms

Greetings friends, In order to promote a safe, inclusive, and friendly gaming environment for you, we're updating our community guidelines, as well as the penalties for breaking them. These guidelines are going into effect immediately: These rules will be enforced on official Level 99 Games Community Servers on Discord, in games such as BattleCON Online, on our official facebook pages, youtube page, at official real-world events, and et cetera. Basically, anywhere that Level 99 Games exercises an official presence online and where community members are invited to interact with each other and with our developers, these rules are in full force. Penalties in any one community are enforced in all communities, services, games, and real-world organized play events. Thus, conduct in a Discord server or Youtube channel can result in a ban in BattleCON Online, from our facebook pages, and from real-world organized play events as well. 1. Our communities and games are a safe space for players of all backgrounds. Refrain from any posts, comments, images, speech, or other communication that the moderators of these communities deem to be aggressive, inflammatory, hateful, or otherwise disparaging to any group or subgroup of people, including but not limited to ethnic groups, genders, sexual orientations, religions, nationalities, disabilities, etc. Violations of this policy are determined at the sole discretion of the moderators. Based on the severity of the offense, the response to these actions may range from a warning to a permanent ban. 2. Our communities and games are a safe space for minors. Any content that is illegal, grotesquely violent, pornographic, or otherwise deemed to be in violation of the spirit of these rules is grounds for an immediate, permanent ban. Any solicitation or suggestion of illegal activity to another member is grounds for an immediate, permanent ban. Participating in the extended discussion of these topics is also grounds for an immediate ban, the severity and length of which will be determined by moderators. 3. We value the privacy of the members of our community. Sharing personally identifying information, including but not limited to pictures, addresses, contact information in other communities, IP addresses, et cetera of any other member of one of these communities is grounds for a ban. Furthermore, members of the community are strongly discouraged from posting such materials about themselves, and such posts may also warrant a warning or ban. 4. Our communities and games are a place for good-spirited, friendly, sportsmanlike competition. Win or lose, all members of the community are expected to be good sports and to accept both victory and defeat with good grace. At the discretion of our moderators, any unsportsmanlike conduct, including trash talk, attempts to fix matches, attempts to influence the play or behavior of other players, or attempts to delegitimize the results of official competitions, is subject to warning or bans. The use of game-altering software, or intentional exploitation of known, game-altering bugs are also grounds for a ban. 5. Our communities and games are a place for those activities alone. Members of the community should refrain from active recruitment of members for any outside activity. This includes invitations to participate in other gaming communities or activities, offers to sell or purchase property, and pressuring member participation or abstinence from any particular politics, lifestyles, beliefs, or out-of-game activities. At the discretion of a moderator, these activities are grounds for warnings and bans. 6. Our moderators have the final say in all matters relating to community administration. These moderator powers extend to all members of our staff and development teams. Arguing with, harassing, or disparaging of the moderators, development team, or other members of the Level 99 Staff are grounds for warnings and bans. Direct contact with moderators or staff outside of these community channels may, at the discretion of moderators, be grounds for warnings or bans within the community. 7. We reserve the right to modify these guidelines at any time, as well as to enforce immediately and retroactively any changes made to these guidelines. Furthermore, all warnings and bans from the community are at the sole discretion of the moderators of those communities, and may or may not carry a given explanation with their assignment. With these guidelines in place, we hope to create an inviting, fun, open, and inclusive community centered around our shared love of gaming and a mutual respect for fellow players of all backgrounds. Thank you all for your participation in Level 99 Games, and for your support as we continue to grow and press through the challenges ahead! I look forward to seeing you online. :)

Version 0.25: "Download."

FEATURES AND MAJOR UPDATES

Advanced Replay Controls

This has been one of the most anticipated request. In a replay, you now have the control to pause the replay instantly. You can also control the replay's playback speed. Check out these features by loading-up a replay!

Indines Cup

The first official BattleCON Online Tournament is here! Test your mettle in this fight of the ages! Find out more by clicking the "Signup" button in the main menu. http://tiny.cc/Indines-Cup-Signup

BALANCE CHANGES

With each patch, we are constantly updating the balance and playability of fighters in BattleCON Online.

Kimbhe:

Expulsion: Can place staff in occupied space (revert of old change). While the Expulsion change had the right power level effect, many players felt that it made Kimbhe less fun to play. We'll continue to monitor her power level to see if a compensation nerf elsewhere is needed, but you can once again regain the staff with Expulsion.

Kehrolyn:

Hydra Fork: After Activating heal reduced from 5 to 3 Hydra Fork is probably the best finisher in the game at the moment, and a lot of that is how reliable the heal is on a meaty Stun Immune attack. Reducing it to 9 effective Power should make it a bit more reasonable to play against for opponents that manage to dodge the Fork.

MAJOR NOTE

Next patch, we will be overhauling the economy for runes and coins. This means potentially having fighters only purchasable via coins or as DLC. Runes will remain, however, and you will be able to spend them on a new feature. This is an early warning for those sitting on runes, we highly recommend that you buy your fighters now! This may apply to avatars in the shop as well.

MINOR NOTES AND BUGFIXES

Fixed:
  • Opening the Request bar in game should no longer crash the game.
  • Getting a packet error now checks whether the error is game-related before kicking you back to the main menu.
  • Marmelee's music should no longer load into RAM, increasing speed.
Added:
  • Remaining Elite Skin Avatars are now in-game.
Changed:
  • Bundles have been removed from the in-game store.

Tooltips

Keywords and effects are now explained in-game. This should make it easier to remember what everything does. Just mouse-over the cards in-game to see their tooltips.

BALANCE CHANGES

Burman

  • Blistering: Now has 1 Power, from 2
  • Dragonbreath: Now has 1 Power, from 0. Now has "Start: You may spend 2 Firepower to deal 2 life loss the first time opponent Advances this beat." instead of its previous On Hit
  • Dragon's Descent: Now has 7 Power, from 8. Now has 1 Priority, from 2
This should flatten Burman's power curve somewhat rather than just making him constantly rely on Blistering as the key trading/beat-winning tool. In return, Dragonbreath becomes a lot more favorable at midrange while also giving him a powerful tool to punish predictable advances..

Magdelina

  • UA: Now loses Trance equal to Level when leveling up (or hitting Level
  • Cap), instead of all Trance
One really awkward thing about Magdelina was that Blessing was often useless for gaining Trance, because she would lose the bonus counter if it was used too close to her leveling up. This should open up a lot more opportunities for her to play Blessing during the game. Her actual level up rate is unchanged, outside of Blessing situations.

Kimbhe

  • Expulsion: Now specifies Staff -may- be moved to -unoccupied- space.
  • Quake: Stun guard to 3 from 4
Right now, Expulsion Caster and Expulsion Dodge make it too easy for Kimbhe to regain her Staff, essentially wiping out a lot of potential staff control the opponent could play. This should make her work a bit harder to get that constant +2 Power, and limit her ability to easily close games with Quickening's +4 Priority.

Sarafina

  • Tactical: Now has Hit: You may spend 2 Force for +1 Power
  • Locus: Now has Start: If the opponent is on your Projection, Gain 2 Force and Pull 1
  • Field: Now has Hit: Gain 2 Force in addition to immobilizing opponent
  • Hollow: Now has Damage: Gain 1 Force
  • Silver: Now has -1 Power, +1 Priority
  • Fulminating Vortex: Now has 7 Power, from 8
  • Ritherwhyte Infusion: Now has Hit: Gain 2 Life
Tactical, despite having good stats, tended to be underwhelming. Part of this is the amount of power wrapped up in Silver/Implosion at the moment, and part of it is the fact Sarafina never really went in for big damage spikes. These changes give her more resources to play with in terms of cashing out Force for Power as a way to get riskier, more interesting damage as well as generally tapping up her power level.

Seven

  • Cold: Now has +0~1 Range
  • Remote: Now has After: Advance up to 1
These should make Seven's early-game a little less rough, given how risky her Ranges tend to be at the moment (how easily she can lock herself out of being able to hit). Heated was way better than Cold, so this should help Cold look a bit better in comparison too!

MINOR NOTES AND BUGFIXES

Changed:
  • Improved disconnect detection
  • Linux and Mac now run on 2k textures
  • How textures are assorted for better performance
  • Internal game engine to support latest features
  • Punctuation for one of Mikhails voice lines
  • Discard pile support
  • 99% of how Friends Lists work for a more optimized solution
Fixed:
  • A bug where your shop would crash from irrelevant data
  • A crash in tutorial 3
  • Force gauge animation broken in some cases
  • Mikhails voice line not playing properly
  • Game's icon and title being incorrect
  • Game getting stuck on login for some people
  • Non-attacking finishers causing the character to say their voices lines the following beat
Added:
  • Instant status reporting for friends list
  • Better support from undefined crashes
  • A fix for viewing different shops in different builds
  • A whole new animated background for the holiday season
  • Profile caching for faster load times for friends and opponents

Version 0.18 is here! Evil Hikaru is now available to all players!

Welcome to Patch 0.18! This is a small one, with a bunch of bugfixes and the release of our next character: Evil Hikaru! Kickstarter backers have been able to play him for a bit, but now everyone can go at it! Updates:

  • Evil Hikaru is now available for all players as a purchasable fighter.
  • Evil Hikaru's listed difficulty updated to 4, from 3.
  • Cesar's listed difficulty updated to 3, from 2.

Balance Changes:

Evil Hikaru:
  • Pure Evil - Power raised from -1 to +0. Pure Evil is Evil Hikaru's hardest Style to use due to lack of defenses and low Priority; this should help put the reward in line with the risk.
  • Devastator now hits at Range 4 if the Power debuff does not apply (at 2 or fewer tokens). Evil Hikaru's ranges are... spotty at best, and he's particularly weak when at range. Devastator is a hard Base to use due to its movement issues, but this should give him an interesting ranged option that he needs to work for.

Other Bugfixes and Changes

  • Added: X-Range / Special Ranges now show an effect pop-up on hit to clarify that they landed a hit through special effects instead of normal range calculation.
  • Fixed: (Burman) Dragon's Descent dodge effect did not activate properly.
  • Fixed: Hail the King, Aegis, Sweet Revenge now gain Power properly when interacting with Blessing.
  • Updated: Seven's card evolutions were changed from End: timing to Recycle: timing.
  • Fixed: Evil Hikaru regain life bug with Finisher.
  • Fixed: Alexian's Mighty style affecting Finishers.
  • Fixed: At 5 clashes, the game will trigger "Auto Cleanup" to clean all statuses.
  • Fixed: Bug that caused some fighters to say Finisher voice lines during regular attacks.
  • Fixed: A bug on Mac and Linux where the card name color was grey, but was meant to be an non-grey color.
  • Fixed: A glitch with force effect in the UI.
  • Changed: How ping system works for better Disconnect detection.
  • Fixed: Disconnection message will no longer pop up while trying to authenticate if you take too long.

Version 0.17: Burman arrives

Welcome to BATTLECON ONLINE version 0.17.0 Released on October 3rd, 2018 This may be a light update, but it still has a heavy hittersay hello to Burman! A powerful specialist/heavyweight, Larimore Burman can save up Power and Priority to unleash devastating attacks that force the opponent across the board, shred their defenses, or overwhelm their Priority instantly.

BALANCE CHANGES

Hikaru

Sweeping now has Damage: Advance 1 or 2. Sweeping has always felt a bit underpowered when not used with Dodge or to end games with Fire. This gives it a touch more versatility and lets Hikaru threaten a quick duck in against some ranged characters when combined with Water.

Rukyuk

Trick now has End, Range 1: Retreat up to 1. Trick is okay, but Stun Immunity alone made it a fairly uninteresting Style. Giving Rukyuk a slight disengage should help his game against his worst matchups while not changing those where he can keep range easily.

Sarafina

Hollow's Range 3 effect now also Ignores Soak. We heard a lot of feedback that Sarafina had particular trouble against heavyweights. This should give her a solid tool if she can maintain the specific range against Soak-heavy plays.

CLIENT UPDATES

Fixed:
  • Friends matches
  • Miscellaneous small bugs
Added:
  • Burman Imagery and Voice Acting
  • Code redemption
Updated:
  • Login system
  • Packet system

Version 0.16 is here! Improved login flow and visual clarity

Welcome to BATTLECON ONLINE version 0.16.0 Released on September 19th, 2018

Updates

This patch is all about visuals and code upgrades! We've looked at a lot of feedback from our players, and we've made a number of major changes. Evil Hikaru should be coming up soon, so hold tight and enjoy the upgrades until then!
  • Login should be a lot easier! If you want to register an account it's similar, but you can jump in and play even without it. This should make things a lot more user-friendly when trying to register initially.
  • Unique Ability (UA) cards are updated! People wanted more information about how UAs work in detail, so we've added illustrated cards in-game that should help explain!
  • Pop-ups and visuals added on a number of cards. These should clarify situations where you need to see what a token does, or otherwise interact with things that were hard to find!
  • Flip Viewer and Help Overlay! Press the ? button in-game to see a summary of what everything is on the screen, or click the flip arrow on Kallistar and Seven's cards to see what both sides of the card do.

Balance Changes

Luc:

Memento token cost increased from 2 to 3. Memento is Luc's best punish, and the ability to swing for 6 on Memento Shot or Memento Drive is a huge threat that represents his most efficient cash-out on Time. This should tax his resources a touch more, while better normalizing the value of Time at 1 effective Power.

Kallistar:

Elemental Ignition's life cost reduced from 3 to 2. Elemental Ignition is pretty risky, in general. This makes both powered-up cards cost a total of 3 life and slightly reduces the risk.

Visual Changes and Upgrades

  • Kallistar: Life loss now occurs before pairs are set, for consistency with Finisher costing.
  • Karin: Full Moon's passive "+2 Power if Jager behind opponent" refactored into a Hit effect for clarity.
  • Eligor, Alexian, Seven, Cesar: "Ignore push or pull" effects (Vengeful, Gestalt, Terrified) now have a Reveal trigger popping up the effect, for clarity purposes.
  • Khadath: Snare now pops up a Reveal: trigger stating "your trap cannot be moved" if you used it with Teleport, Blight, or Evacuation.
  • Hikaru: Added reminder text to token regains to clarify what regained tokens do. Fixed some voice lines.
  • Rukyuk:Added reminder text to Ammo spends to clarify what spent tokens do.
  • Hikaru, Riflam, Rukyuk: Effects interacting with a single custom token (Geomantic, Substantial, Crossfire, etc.) now use the art of that token instead of the card's art.
  • Sarafina, Khadath, Kimbhe: Standardized wording between X-range marker-based Unique Bases.
  • Cesar: Cesar's UA better explains Threat Level bonuses at the start of each beat.
  • Magdelina: Fixed bug where Solar Soul could not spend Trance for buffs.
  • Mikhail: Switch now clarifies that Mikhail does not need to spend a Seal.Fixed some voice lines.
  • Sarafina: Fixed a bug where Field could sometimes hit opponents on Space 1.
  • Anath: Fixed bug with Dark Revulsion crashing while negating range. Fixed bug with Dark Revulsion using up Cesar's extra life.

Client Changes/Updates

  • FIXED: Tutorial is now skippable.
  • CHANGED: Removed lock image from unlocked fighters.
  • FIXED: Cursor was being displayed underneath dialog boxes in some situations.
  • CHANGED: Friends status timer updated.
  • ADDED: Added access to DEV Server.
  • FIXED: Tutorial not working on mac and linux.
  • ADDED: Added all new UA frames/descriptions to fighters.
  • ADDED: Bundles to the store.
  • ADDED: Unlock Icon added back in.
  • ADDED: Staggered reconnection attempts.
  • FIXED: Mac - Force particle effects never disapear.
  • FIXED: Mac - Dust clouds lasting a long time on movement and attack.
  • FIXED: Mac - EXP and Levels Displaying incorrectly.
  • ADDED: A redeem code button in the shop.
  • ADDED: A Help overlay in game.
  • CHANGED: Abilities tab to show UA Frame.
  • FIXED: Packet 2022 Error crash.
  • ADDED: A Stun Guard cap to 99.
  • ADDED: The letters "SI" for when your pair has Stun Immunity.
  • ADDED: Clicking on the small arrow on a card (on a card that can transform) in-game will show what it will transform into.
  • FIXED: Failed to send packet stalling some games. Packet failures should now resolve more cleanly.

Welcome to BattleCON Online -- All Fighters Unlocked this week

Hey everyone, Thanks so much for participating in the launch of BattleCON Online in Steam Early Access! During this week, all fighters are free to play (those open locks next to the fighters on the select screen mean they are un-locked as part of this week's free rotation). After the week ends, we'll return to our normal 4-fighters-per-week free rotation. We've had a few rough moments with the server, but things have stabilized now. We are actively tracking bugs reported in the forums and in-game. We are also working on additional user interface improvements, updates to tutorials, game effect clarity, and the stability of our servers. If you wish to report bugs or make suggestions for future improvements to the game, please use the in-game bug report feature (in the bottom left corner of the interface, the bug icon) or use our Bug Report + Suggestions Form. Once again, thanks so much for taking the time to play and help us improve our first digital offering! We appreciate your support and encouragement as we continue working to build the best BattleCON Online possible! - D. Brad Talton Jr, Level 99 Games

  • First released as a tabletop game in 2012, BattleCON has gained a worldwide following for top-notch character design, beautiful presentation, and crunchy conflict-driven gameplay. Put your skills to the test with friends and rivals from around the world in the official online adaptation of this tabletop classic!

In this deeply strategic, full-information battle card game, you will choose your fighter from a diverse roster of spell-slinging duelists, tag-teaming werewolves, time-traveling boxers, dimensional knights, and more! Each fighter brings their own unique sub-system to combat, and comes with their own complete kit–no deck building or collecting necessary! As with any fighting game, the fighters have fixed skill sets. Knowing and mastering the interactions between your abilities and your opponents' skills is key to victory.

Weave together the elements, set traps, mutate your cards—the possibilities are endless!

With each update, we introduce new fighters and improved playability and balance. We implement new fighters every few weeks. Many of these are favorites from the classic BattleCON Board Game, but others are brand new and exclusive to BattleCON Online!

As in popular battle arena games, you can play fighters on a free rotation, or have them forever for a one-time purchase with in-game or real-world currency. We also offer Season Passes that allow you to acquire new fighters automatically, and daily quests and events to help you earn gold and unlock new fighters.

BattleCON Online gives you all the control of the tabletop edition of BattleCON, with a fully managed digital platform. The game includes animations, voiceovers, alternate costumes, and the latest balance patches and tournament rulesets. You can even watch replays and challenge friends directly!

BattleCON boasts one of the best communities in tabletop gaming, and now in digital gaming as well! Enjoy weekly video tutorials, lively community discussions, fan-organized tournaments, and more by joining our online community from within the game!
