Greetings, cultists!
Doing a quick update to let you know Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure is 75% off this week on Steam!
We truly appreciate all the love our game has gotten from everyone, and we want to make sure as many people as possible can afford being berated and talked down to by a talking cat
It's crazy that this game that only 3 people worked on has to this day sold more than 90,000 units on Steam! We can barely get our heads around so many people being bullied by our grumpy talking tuxedo cat, and we couldn't be more grateful.
In more news from the Kittehverse, work continues on our next game, Near-Mage - an adventure game where you study Magick in Transylvania!
While not a direct sequel to Gibbous, it will see the return of beloved characters from Gibbous and, in addition to the main original plot, tie up some plot lines started in Gibbous.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1685870/NearMage/
Watch for more updates about Near-Mage soon - we don't have a set release date yet, but it will be this year!
Thanks for reading, and have a great start to the summer!

Greetings, everyone! A quick bit of news regarding what we've been up to since we last updated you.
In short, we've been working on our new game, called
[previewyoutube=92n_S2TJm8A;full][/previewyoutube]
Its finally summer! Youre 18, youve just graduated highschool, and the road ahead is as blurry as it is open. All your friends have decided what colleges and universities theyll be attending, but you, well Youd rather think it over while playing video games.
Suddenly, a letter from your great-aunt Domnica arrives. She lives in Transylvania, and shes inviting you over for the summer. Seems like a perfect way to clear your head and decide what it is you want to become in life
But what if, once youve arrived, you discover that both you and your great-aunt come from a long line of witches, and you are offered the possibility to enroll in the Transylvanian Institute for Magick?
A summer in dark and storied Transylvania, and a chance to become a Near-Mage.
Near-Mage is a narrative-heavy adventure game with a bit of role-playing DNA that aims to appeal to hardcore players of the genre and newcomers alike.
- Study spell crafting in the Transylvanian Institute for Magick as a mage-in-training - a Near-Mage;
- Experience a deep and engaging story that plays like an adventure game;
- Craft your own spell inventory, use it with different results in every play-through;
- Dozens of unique characters in and around the Institute for Magick - your spells change their lives for better or worse;
- Vampyres, pricolitch, moroi, strigoi, ghouls, shtima, and more mythical Romanian creatures to interact with;
- Over 80 lushly rendered environments hand-painted in glorious 4K resolution;
- Traditionally animated frame-by-frame;
- Darkly colorful atmosphere bolstered by meticulous on-location research of myths and folklore;
- Rich cinematic orchestral score
- Dozens of itemized outfits and hairstyles to customize your main character;
- Switch from pointing and clicking with your mouse to direct control via gamepad on the fly;
- A game about Transylvania made by Transylvanians!
YES! ...And no. Sort of! Think of Near-Mage as an expansion of the Kittehverse (were only half-kidding when we call it that). While it has a different protagonist and a brand new set of characters, it is set in the same universe as Gibbous, after the events of the first game. It will also tie up narrative threads that were left hanging when Gibbous ended, and see fan-favorite characters return. We are writing the game in such a manner that you can enjoy it without having played Gibbous, but are probably getting a bit more out of it if you have. Were very invested in the world Gibbous and Near-Mage take place in - we hope you are, too! - and we want to keep expanding it by telling more stories within it, hopefully with you guys by our side.
Wishlisting Near-Mage would help us tremendously. A games future fate is actually written when its Steam page goes up, since Valves algorithms analyze how popular it is and will dole out traffic to it accordingly in the future. So, if you can, give us a wishlist & follow and maybe tell a friend! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1685870/NearMage/
Will Kitteh be in this game? If youve watched the trailer you know the answer already (Spoiler: hell yeah). Will Don / Buzz / Piscilla / Olmstein / other characters etc be in Near-Mage? We are keeping things under tight wraps for now, so were not confirming anyone other than a certain evil tuxedo cat. However, rest assured that we will tie up loose ends, and fan favorites will make significant returns. I enjoyed Gibbous but the story confused me a bit, will Near-Mage be confusing? Well address this in a separate update, but the short answer is no. Weve studied a lot and leveled up narratively in the meantime. Near-Mage will have a much more traditional, focused story with a classic, easy to follow outline. Less Lovecraftiana and more Transylvaniana. That doesnt mean you wont be able to jump into optional side narratives But let's not give too much away! Is Near-Mage Lovecraftian? Trying not to give too much away - the answer is yes, but not in such an overt way as the first game was. Gibbous was a love letter to Lovecraft,which pleased cosmic horror fans but might have confused the rest - Near-Mages narrative will be much more accessible to everyone. Still a point-and-click adventure? Yes, and then some! There are a lot of cool mechanics weve come up with, which will be detailed in the upcoming crowdfunding campaign. Also, youll be able to play both point-and-click and by controlling the main character directly via gamepad. Making narrative games with a dark cartoony vibe is sort of our spiel, so if youve enjoyed Gibbous were pretty confident youll dig Near-Mage, too.
Maybe you didn't know, but Gibbous was made possible by a successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2016. We loved the experience, and so did our backers, so we decided to crowdfund Near-Mage. If you've enjoyed Gibbous and you can lend a helping hand on Kickstarter, we'd love it if you decided to...
Join the Cult again!
Will you join us in an exciting crowdfunding ride?
We would love to have you on board for Near-Mages Kickstarter. Hope you're as excited as we are about continuing to tell stories in the Kittehverse. Thanks again for supporting us, hope to see you there when the Kickstarter launches! Liviu, Cami, Chris & a bunch of cats PS: Happy to reply to questions in the comments, but please keep in mind we're keeping some stuff under wraps for now

Hey, Gibbous, what's with the download, homie?
Have no fear, dear cultists, we're just fixing a couple of things here and there. And these are, straight from the programmer's keyboard:
- Added support for ultrawide 2560x1080 resolution close to standard 12:5
- Removed unintented UI interactions
- Fixed bug that occurs when switching language during gameplay (UI problem appearing in some situations)
- Fixed a bug that caused save/load to not display properly when a language other than English is selected

Greetings, fellow cultists! Hope you have a fun Halloween, filled with tentacles and cosmic abominations. Here's what this brand-spanking new major update brings to Gibbous - A Cthulhu adventure!
We heard you loud and clear about the low quality of the Russian translation, so we've hired new people and completely redone it from scratch.
Alex and Arina have a lot of experience, having localized games like Thimbleweed Park, Hollow Knight and Broken Sword 5, so you should be having a great time with Gibbous in Russian now. Sorry it took so long, but good things take time, and we really didn't want to rush this!
And speaking of languages, this update also brings a new one: Brazilian Portuguese!
You asked for them, we finally delivered. Trading cards, emoticons, badges and all that good stuff are here.
Enjoy the drops and praise Dagon!
We also heard you loud and clear regarding the quality of Buzz Kerwan's voice lines. We're owning up to it - the direction was a bit all over the place, and having recorded in several different locations on hardware with varying degrees of quality really hurt the experience.
So we hunkered down and moved into the studio for a few weeks, and we re-recorded and edited everything from scratch.
Enjoy the new, improved, and way lower pitched Buzz K-E-R-W-A-N!
Presented in ultra-wide Gibbouscope!
When we started working on Gibbous, wide and ultra-wide resolutions weren't really a thing. The trouble with 2d, hand-painted art is that, well, it's hand-painted, you can't just generate more automatically.
We had two options: either add black bars to the sides, or extend them by carefully hand-painting hundreds of layers for tens of backgrounds. Guess which one we chose!
This was a lot of work, but hey - it's 2019, and more and more people will play Gibbous at higher resolutions, so we really feel it was worth the effort.
We've been aware for a while of a few nasty bugs that hurt your experience with Gibbous. We're happy to say that we've squashed the biggest and the most annoying ones:
- Screen exit arrow not appearing due to aspect ratio: we now support wide and ultra-wide, which should automatically fix the problem.
- Resolution changing when alt-tabbing: this had to do with how the game handled displaying in full screen, we've changed it and the bug went away.
We really hope we've addressed all of your concerns, but if issues still remain, please post in the dedicated bug reports thread on our discussions.
We'd like to take a moment and thank everyone who's been reporting bugs (and also providing solutions!) in the discussion threads, we're happy to have such a nice and supportive community.
And speaking of community, if you'd like to report something to us in real time, or just feel like chatting to other cultists, don't forget about our discord server!. It's a warm and welcoming bunch of deranged cultists, and us devs are pretty much always around.
That's about it for this update! We've put a lot of effort into all of the above for the past three months, and we hope they provide you with a significantly improved comedy cosmic horror experience.
Thank you all for your patience and continued support.
Cthulhu Fhtagn!

First of all, a big, big thank you to everyone who's purchased the game! We are so thrilled to finally see you guys playing and enjoying Gibbous. We've put all our effort and passion into this game for over three years, and your kind words make it all worth-while. We have just pushed the first update, here are the patch notes:
- Updated Russian, Chinese and Japanese localizations. Please note that these are not the final versions! These are corrections that we've scrambled to add as quick as possible. We've read your feedback and we are aware the localization was very bad. More details on localization trouble below.
- Added in-game subtitles and cutscene subtitles on/off toggle. Note: for players who already own the game, subtitles might be off by default. We'll fix that in the next patch (sorry... we were tired!), for now please enable them from the options menu if you want them back.
- Changed quality settings menu presets
- Added keyboard shortcut "i" for inventory
- Fixed a lot of typos
- Several minor bug fixes
We are very sorry about the quality of several translations, especially Russian, Japanese and Korean, and we're incredibly mad at the company that provided them. We know that it's not an excuse and that you as a customer should not care, but we want you to know that this was not intentionally sloppy work on our part. We payed these people good money to localize the game, and they took very long to do it, invoking the length of the script. They assured us that the translations were competent, and it turns out that they are horrible. Beta testers let us know about the gravity of the situation. We sent back the translations so that they could correct them. Again, they took ages to do it, and what they sent back was just as bad as before. Launch was a few days away, and we were in a huge dilemma. We could have totally pulled out the languages until we were sure they were well-localized, but we knew that a lot of people wishlisted the game precisely because it was available in their native language. That would have seemed like we were scamming you into buying a game that didn't really offer what was advertised. It was maddening. We decided to hire translators to correct as much as possible before release, and patch corrections in later. The corrections in this patch are not final. We are going ahead with correcting everything in this version, and will continue correcting it. We are in a terrible situation because our localization budget is gone, and the company that made this entire mess refuses to give us our money back. We will continue to try improving the localizations no matter what. We just want you guys to know that if it takes time, it's because the script is huge, and asking translators to work faster obviously means they want a bigger budget, which at the moment is hard for us to put together. We are so, so sorry about this mess, and doing our best to fix everything so that you can enjoy Gibbous at its fullest, in your native language. After putting all our effort, love, and energy into this game, you can imagine how heart-breaking it is for us to see you disappointed in how it's been localized. Apologies again! We promise to keep fixing and updating the game in the following weeks. Now working on:
- Support for wide and ultrawide resolution (we didn't have such a monitor to test on prior to release)
- A bug involving window mode fullscreen on Mac & Linux

Gibbous is now released! Thanks so much for your patience, and we hope you enjoy the game! If you are encountering any kind of technical problems, please know that we will be here ready to help. It's the first time releasing a game on Steam, and it's all a bit overwhelming. We've tried our best to localize in as many languages as possible. Some of them are still being corrected (especially Russian, Korean and Japanese), and will be updated within the next few days. Thanks so much! Stuck In Attic

Greetings, fellow worshippers of the Old Ones! Just a quick announcement to proudly let you know that Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure will be available with subtitles in the following languages:
English French Italian German Spanish (Spain) Spanish (Latin America) Russian Chinese Korean Japanese Polish Arabic Romanian Hungarian
We are super excited to be able to provide you with the game in your native language, and we're open to expanding this list post-launch. Our translators are working hard to make sure that the localization is as accurate and fitting as possible. That involves testing and adjusting, and can take a while, but it's totally worth the wait!
The game is pretty much complete at this point; we're still:
- implementing the final voice lines
- polishing a couple of unorthodox puzzles
- testing it internally
- implementing all of the languages and testing them
