Axis Football 2018 v3.8 is now live!

Version 3.8 is now out! There were a lot of balance changes and bug fixes. Thank you to all of the community members helping us to test the beta so we can keep making Axis Football the best we can!


  • Deep Safeties will cover better when in zone
  • Man-To-Man defenders will be assigned more logically based on their field orientation with receivers
  • Fixed a kickoff bug for when a ball goes out of the side of the endzone (will now come out to the 25 instead of being placed in the endzone)
  • AI won't call a timeout if there's a penalty on the play
  • Fixed a bug causing the camera to flip the wrong way on a kick return
  • Increased the AI QB decision making when using the harder difficulties (does not affect AI vs AI)
  • Defensive AI will decline a penalty on the offense if the play did not end up past the line to gain on a 3rd down
  • Fixed a bug that wouldn't allow you to set the "ALL" playbook via the team editor
  • Generated players will no longer rarely have a blank first or last name
  • Fix for existing franchises where a player got a blank first or last name
  • Fixed a bug where the proper roster file for Penalties wasn't getting loaded for Franchise Games, causing Penalties to be called on players from original rosters not the franchise roster
  • Updated the team editor with a fix for xbox 360 controllers to save a team, clarified what "college options" means, added a button to reset all teams at once
  • Fixed an issue when loading the college field after selecting "College Options" for a team
  • Lowered the frequency of Offensive Holding calls
  • Fixed an issue where Franchise matchups weren't using Franchise Rosters to calculate overall ratings in the team select screen

Axis Football 2018 v3.7 is now live!

Folks,

Version 3.7 has been out for a bit, but I wanted to officially post the patch notes. Please see them below.


AI Passing Game Improvements:


  • Decision making has improved, based on QB throwing power, throwing accuracy, and awareness
  • The AI QB will now take down and distance into account
  • Decoupled QB scrambling from frame rate. QBs will scramble based on a timer instead of on frames to help slower PCs.
  • Throws at the sidelines will go upfield a little bit instead of directly to the receiver to prevent short gains on ugly passes


AI Running Game Improvements:

  • AI will be more likely to follow blockers and run inside when an inside run is picked.
  • Blocking improvements should keep running plays from going for lossses as frequently.


Other Changes:

  • Improved blocking. Inside runs should be more of a possibility. Offensive linemen will hold blocks, even in HoF mode (depending on their blocking attribute)
  • Improved man coverage. If a linebacker is covering a WR he will give more of a buffer to make up for the speed difference. Should result in fewer wide open receivers downfield.
  • Improved difficulty levels. The higher modes should be harder, but not unfair (OL will maintain blocks, speed of defenders will remain consistent)
  • Fixed a bug where the formation text (in the scorebar) wasn't moving side to side to indicate who was on offense.
  • Fixed a bug where the punt or kick returner was catching the kick already out of bounds, causing some issues
  • Fixed a few bugs where stats weren't getting tracked properly on a turnover
  • Connected the attribute "P1 Lead Receiver" to AI passing. Please reset your value to 0. If the AI is consistently overthrowing, lower this value. Similarly if the AI is consistently underthrowing passes
  • Lowered the angle that passes are thrown at to get a more realistic feel
  • QB audio will now be tied to the Sound Effects volume slider
  • In-Game Injuries have been reduced to more realistic levels
  • Normalized values for starting QB, WR, and RB for each of the base teams. Some players were way too overpowered and some were way too underwhelming.
  • Improved catching for DBs when they have a clear shot at a ball. If a ball gets thrown to a wide open DB there's a good chance he will catch it (based on catch/awareness ratings).
  • Updated timeout logic. The AI will now call timeouts more reliably when losing and on defense.
  • Fixed the bug where the awards weren't showing all the time at the end of a season.
  • Fixed the bug where the rookie's contract years and salary were displaying in the wrong field
  • Fixed the bug where that would crash the game if you selected "Spectate" from the franchise dashboard, then went back to the dashboard and simulated the game.
  • Fixed a bug where defensive facemask penalty would be called on your defenders when you were on offense.
  • Fixed a bug causing the game to hang up when loading uniforms and only using Mods.

Axis Football 2018 v3.6 is now live!

After a little mishap with v3.5, we're happy to annouce that v3.6 is now live! I'm reposting the v3.5 changelog below.


  • Fixed a bug that was preventing drafted players from showing up in the list of available players to trade.
  • Fixed an audio loading asset bundle issue that was sometimes causing the game to freeze up at halftime.
  • Fixed the spelling of 'concussion'
  • The ball will now properly be placed at the 20 after an INT and tackle in the endzone.
  • Touchdowns will no longer be recorded twice when there is a penalty on a scoring play.
  • The AI will call timeouts more appropriately now when under 2 minutes to go in the half.
  • You can now shift your safety left and right on formations that only have 1 safety
  • Catch logic will now take the number of defenders nearby into greater account.
  • Catch logic will now take the stats difference between the reciever and defender into greater account.
  • Catch logic will be based on both catch and awareness for receivers and defenders

We're happy to announce that Axis Football 2018 v3.4 is now live! Please see the changelog below for full details.


  • Fixed the bug where the clock would sometimes run on a kickoff before the ball was kicked.
  • Fixed the bug where the QB would scramble too often on computers with really high framerates.
  • Fixed the bug where the game would sometimes freeze up if the score was tied at the end of regulation.
  • Fixed the bug where the wrong jersey would sometimes appear on players if multiple games were played back-to-back.
  • Fixed the bug where uncaught kickoffs that rolled out of the endzone would result in an automatic safety on the next play.
  • Fixed the bug where selecting a new team strategy with the mouse would snap the ball unintentionally.
  • Fixed the bug where the AI was making the wrong decision on the penalty if a kickoff was kicked out of bounds.
  • Fixed the bug where declining a penalty on a turnover put the ball on the wrong side of the field.
  • Kickers and Punters are now less likely to get injured
  • Users can now hold the X button on their controllers to run out the clock when on offense.

Axis Football 2018 v3.3 is now live!

Hi, folks!

It's been a couple days since our late update, but we've certainly been hard at work! Please see the complete changelog below!


  • Added a toggle option for the stick push option when using aimed passing. This allows the user to slightly aim the direction of the pass when throwing to receivers using icon passing. For example, if you press X to throw to receiver X and you are holding left on your left stick, the ball will be thrown to the left of the receiver.
  • Fixed a few issues with when the clock was running when it shouldn't be and not running when it should be.
  • Fixed the bug that was awarding the two-point conversion to the wrong team if a penalty occured and was declined on a two-point attempt.
  • Offensive pass interference will no longer result in a loss of down
  • Fixed a display bug when showing the down and distance for false start (decline option) and offensive holding (accept option).
  • The proper down and distance will now show in the play clock after a penalty.
  • Fixed a bug that was showing the wrong formation in AI vs AI
  • Draft and Free Agency classes will now be randomized by year. Previously, all year one, two, three, etc. draft and free agency classes were the same across all franchises.
  • Fixed a display bug in the free agency that was incorrectly showing some players as rookies.

Axis Football 2018 v3.2 is now live!

Hi, folks!

We're back with another update and some bug fixes!

Changelog:


  • Added some additional options for controlling the speed of the game, play clock, and game clock. Please note that all game settings are getting reset back to the default. We apologize for any inconvience this may cause, but it's necessary to implement some fixes.
  • Fixed the bug that was causing the user to sometimes be unable to run the PAT if they scored as time expired.
  • Fixed the bug that was causing the punt returner to circle around the ball's
    landing spot
  • Fixed several bugs related to when the game and play clock started and stopped
  • The AI will no longer wait to snap the ball (ie, run the clock out) if they're losing
  • Adjusted some passing values to create more realism.


As always, please keep the bug reports coming. We'll keep getting things fixed as they pop up!

Axis Football v3.0 is now live!

Hi, Folks!

Thanks for the continued support and feedback! We've releaved v3.0 which should address a lot of the issues you've seen.


  • Added achievements to the game!
  • Fixed the issue where the players would tap the ball into the air over and over and gather around it. It looked like hot potato, and while it was funny, it wasn't very simulation football.
  • Fixed the issue with the music playing when it should not.
  • Adjusted the kicker's position on kickoffs so he actually kicks the ball
  • Fixed some QB/RB handoff interactions
  • Fixed some roster errors with attributes being too high/low
  • Fixed a bug that was causing the accelerated clock to stop working on AI vs AI matches
  • Fixed an error with the player editor where the discipline attribute wasn't getting set properly

Axis Football 2018 v2.9 is now live!

Folks,

Again, thank you for your continued bug reports and feedback. We will continue to put out patches to refine gameplay and fix issues!

v2.9 Changes:


  • Fixed several bugs with penalties and changes in posession. Previously, there were a few edge cases where penalties occured during turnovers or other changes of possession that canceled out the turnover/CoP. These have been fixed.
  • Adjusted when the AI will call TOs (they were calling them a bit too early before)
  • Teams will no longer wait to snap the ball (i.e., run out the clock) if they're losing at the end of the game. This was a slight error in the logic that wasn't taking into account AI vs AI games)
  • The clock will no longer run when exiting out of defensive audibles
  • Fixed a bug that was causing the cursor to be hidden when opening the depth chart from the playbook window
  • Fixed some of the logic for the "Ask Mike" feature when selecting defenses on 4th down and during PAT
  • The user can no longer let the clock run down indefinitely when they are on defense by not selecting a play

Axis Football v2.7 is now live!

Folks,

Version 2.7 is now live. Check out the change log below:


  • QBs will now properly transiting to running/scrambling as soon as they cross the line of scrimmage instead of 2-3 yards past it. The defense will also react to the QB crossing the line more realistically.
  • Adjusted how punt returners line up to catch punts so that they miss fewer of them.
  • Adjusted the speed of Baltimore's RBs, they were far too low.
  • Fixed a bug that was causing the extra point to be bypassed when a penalty occured on a TD.
  • Adjusted the kicking game a bit. Some kicks were falling way too short.
  • Starting funds for franchises are now based on that team's current salary totals. Teams with better players will start with less money and vice versa.


We are aware of additional bugs that are still present - mostly surrounding penalties. We are continuing to work to fix these.

Axis Football 2018 v2.6 is now live!

Folks,

Thank you for your continued feedback. We've made a number of slight adjustments to improve the quality and realism. If your update doesn't automatically download, make sure you exit out of Steam and load it back up.

Here's a list of changes in v2.6:


  • Adjusted the blocking algorithm to be framerate independent. You should now see much more consistent blocking. This should have a positive effect on the number of sacks and rushing yards during a game to bring them more in line with simulation football.
  • Adjusted catching in coverage to be more realistic
  • Added Steam Controller support for saving files when using the player editor
  • Fixed a bug with the Ignore Controller toggle that was causing players to not be able to use the keyboard after turning this on. Whenever you turn this toggle on or off, we recommend that you close out of the game and open it again.
  • Adjusted some of the animation transitions to make them smoother
  • Fixed an issue with a Pistol formation run play


PS - We are aware that there are still some lingering issues with penalties - especially when a penalty occurs during a change of possession/score. We are working on those and will get them fixed ASAP.

PPS - We are currently experiencing heavy amounts of rain and wind from Florence. We have not lost power, but many of the homes around us have. We hope to be able to continue to put out fixes as needed but wanted to let everyone know of our current weather situation.

Axis Football 2018 v2.5 is now live!

Folks,

Thanks for your patience as we continue to address the feedback and issues you guys bring up.

Here's a list of changes in v2.5:


  • We added a new toggle to the options window called "Ignore Controllers." If this is checked, the game will ignore any controllers plugged in. This is a fix for those people that have non-useable controllers for Axis Football plugged in (e.g., Racing Wheels). If Axis detects any controller it automatically disables and hides a lot of buttons, making it impossible for users who wish to use their keyboard and mouse to play the game. Naturally, this was an unintended consequence. If you wish to use your keyboard and mouse to play the game, please make sure that "Ignore Controllers" is checked under the main menu options screen.
  • Added a "Run In Background" option for the game to the options menu. This will allow the game to continue to run (instead of automatically pausing) when the game window loses focus
  • Adjusted receiver's ability to catch the ball when covered. We were seeing some unrealistic catches in double and triple coverage in addition to higher than realistic completion percentages from QBs.

Axis Football 2018 v2.4 is now live!

Folks,

Thanks for the great feedback on day one of our release! We've addressed a lot of your suggestions and hope this version is a lot better for you guys!

Here's a list of changes:


  • Fixed a display issue with rookies in franchise mode. Under the player contracts menu, only rookies will have a (R) next to their name.
  • Adjusted the OL/DL blocking to better balance the run game and sacks.
  • Fixed the issue where players would circle around the ball when trying to pick it up
  • Fixed the bug that was preventing users from setting the resolution of the game
  • Fixed the checkbox for the fullscreen toggle option
  • Fixed the bug that was automatically resetting the camera to the player view instead of the broadcast view after halftime during AI vs AI and Coach Mode matches
  • Smoothed out player movement across a varying framerates
  • Adjusted the kicker so he no longer runs past the ball when kicking it
  • Adjusted the animation for the holder on FGs to be more realistic

Axis Football 2018 First Update

Folks,

Thanks so much for a great release! Day 1 has been awesome! You guys have provided a ton of great feedback. I want to ensure you that we take that feedback seriously. To that end, we will be pushing an update tonight with some adjustments and fixes for some items that popped up today.

You guys purchased this game and deserve it to be the best experience we can provide, so we're going to work to make that happen.
