All good things must come to an end... And that's not as easy as it might seem.
General Practitioner is approaching its 30th major patch release on Patreon and soon it will be available for every player as well. We're in the middle of finalizing the script, adding images and fixing the most obvious bugs, which is a bigger step in development than many might think.
0.0.30 will also mark the last Alpha Release of the game, which will enter Beta in November with 0.1.0 and finally in final release in December. I took many decisions about the game and here I am announcing them to you.
First of all, I had to draw a line: many improvements can still be made in the game's story, so much content can still be added (side stories for other characters, more patients, more items in the store, etc.) and many will be added when Beta hits the shelves! Still, I think it's also time to finalize the game in its current state, taking a full month to polish it from bugs and other issues (which are very minor right now) and seeing how the game can walk on its own.
This of course means that I had to cut something that just wasn't working properly in terms of script and gameplay.
- The "Gallery" feature will be removed from the Main Menu as it was never properly developed and most people have no use for it (you can take a screenshot of everything in the game hiding the interface by pressing "H" on your keyboard).
- Father Torque's "mission" was added in 0.0.4 but it doesn't add anything to the Doctor's story, character or choices. While I also wrote the examination for the road worker guy you're supposed to steal underwear from, it just didn't work. And sometimes we, as writers, need to accept something we're writing is not fitting the whole opera and cut it out.
- The settings screen won't show support for other languages anymore. Unfortunately we never reached our crowdfunding goal to start translating the game in any language, and GP will stay an english-only Visual Novel for the time being (it was never posted anywhere around the game's promotional pages that a localization would be added, to be honest).
- Some endings will be rewritten to fit the new content added in 0.0.30, which means the "main story" of the game. If you thought the endings were only bad ones, that's because they lacked some part of the story, especially Claudia's and Erika's
We love this project, it's our firstborn Visual Novel, and we'll keep updating it beyond it's final release. Deep and engaging narration
General Practitioner features a very long and deep storyline which will take you in a world of mistery and deception. Explore the game's main story while enjoying the other activities available in town. The whole game contains more than 40 hours of gameplay and it's growing update after update!
You decide your own fate
Choices in dialogues and situations really matter! With more than 100 choices to make both in the Main Story and in medical exams you'll experience the consequences of your actions (and in-actions as well). You decide your own fate, do you have what it takes to be a General Practitioner?
Meet new people
The built-in romance system allows you to hang out with dozens of characters of both genders, jog with them at the local park, play a bowling game, relax at the local spa. If you are smart enough you can even make them fall in love with you and ask them to live together, unlocking special conversations and events with them.
You won't know if the date will go well or not, because that depends on fate (and your choices and comfort level of the other one). The more you build up your date's confidence the more chance of success you will have.
Each character you date has a pool different characteristics (i.e. people they like/dislike, favourite foods, informations about their family or job etc.). You'll randomly get to know a different characteristic each time a date will go well and, since they're random, they will be different each time you play General Practitioner or load a save game.
Each patient is different
With a pool of more than 90 scripted patients also comes a random examination system!
Simply put: each time you play the exams will be different. From a pool of 60 diseases and five different patient's archetipes (Children, Teenagers, Young Adults, Adults and Elders) you won't get the very same situation twice!
Medical accuracy
Developed with the help of a real MD, the game features medical informations that are accurate and up-to-date. Please do not take medical informations other than for having fun in the game. If you experience some medical concern ask your doctor as soon as possible.
Original Soundtrack
Ann Sharova (Zup6!, Just Ski, Ezmir: The Last War and many others) composed a soundtrack with 12 different scores to accompany you in your trip as Chief Practitioner of St. Mary's Clinic.
