Hello everyone!

Today we've added a fresh update to the game that adds some new music, and also brings a lot of music to chapter four! Yeah, I know it's weird that we started adding music at the end of the game instead of the beginning, but there's nothing we can do about that! We also updated the credits to include information about the latest music.

Hello all, the developers are here, and we're happy to tell you that the fresh game update is ready!

As mentioned earlier, the size of chapter five was larger than we had planned, and on closer inspection, it was even larger than we had re-planned for. Today we're finally removing the familiar Seraz stub, giving you a full playthrough of this story all the way to the end of chapter five!

What's new:


  • About 7000 lines of code and dialogs
  • New location - Hospital
  • New location - The Road
  • New location - Asylum Club
  • New location - Karaoke room
  • Amber - a new character you can meet in the city
  • A new set of costumes and a new location to meet Karmala
  • 20 new music tracks

As you can see, we began to fill our game with music to emphasize the atmosphere at certain points. It turned out to be quite a complicated process, especially since we're not musicians ourselves and we're not connected with music and, apart from a few songs written specifically for the game by Scraps and Andrias Bartlett, we used music with a creative commons license. So far, we've only filled in music that is relevant to fresh content. We plan to add music to the entire fifth chapter in the near future.

It's been a year since the last update, and it's been a hell of a year for us and for the rest of the world. We really hope that now that things have more or less stabilized, we'll be able to release updates more often. In addition to adding music to the entire fifth chapter, our immediate plans include releasing an update continuing the storyline for at least one more character within chapter five. In the very near future, however, we will focus on fixing possible bugs in the current version of the game.

February cleaning!

It's been a while since the last update. Sometimes it seems as if the world has fallen into chaos... Wait a minute... It did, didn't it?

Since the last update we've been working hard on the new content, but at this point we realize that the upcoming volume of chapter 5 is so large that even working on the individual story branches is too time-consuming. But we're trying to keep up the pace despite the challenges.

In this update we tried to solve the most pressing issues facing the technical component of the game. This will allow us to release future updates with greater ease in the future.

List of changes


  • The credits have been updated. They now have January 2021 relevance.
  • The technical component of the credits has been changed. This change should solve all the problems with getting the achievement for watching credits.
  • New music has been added (special thanks to Jacob "Scraps" Gilbert for it!).
  • Three hidden achievements were added.
  • Something else is added that allows you to get these achievements.
  • Fixed some bugs and typos in Russian and English versions of the game.
  • English localization packages were updated


For now, this is something of a starter pack of updates. We're working on introducing a larger update as soon as possible, which will significantly extend the storyline of one of the characters.

June, 2nd (Update)

In today's update, we continued work on Chapter Five. As we have written before, the fifth chapter will be added in parts. Today we have added another part to Chapter 5, so we have raised the version of the game to 0.05.2.2... For now, that part is only available when you go through Jace's storyline in Chapter Four.

So, in today's update:


  • Added the option to help Seraz in chapter five
  • Added another mini-game with a fight.
  • Added English translation for all new content
  • Added 5 achievements related to new content.
  • Reworked the game launch sequence.
  • The content warning and age verification screens have been completely rewritten to prevent rare errors with the inability to start playing on some builds of Unix systems.
  • The credits have been updated as of 1 June 2020. If you supported the game on Patreon from January 2020 to June 2020, you can now find your name in the credits.
  • Fixed typos in both Russian and English versions.
  • Added new errors and typos.


It took us quite a while to create this relatively small update, so it is possible that some details may have been lost in time. That being the case, we can say that this is probably not a complete list of changes.

Now that the problems are slowly but surely receding, we hope to be able to release updates more often.

January 14 (Update)


In today's update, we have begun to gradually implement the plan to add a fifth chapter. Chapter five will be added in parts. Therefore, you will be able to see the content for the fifth chapter only with a certain path. In today's update, we added a continuation of Jace's storyline. We've also adjusted the results of some choices to fit what's going on in Chapter Five.

So, in today's update:


  • We've added a fifth chapter.
  • Added English translation of chapter five
  • Added several achievements (2 for Chapter 4 and 3 for Chapter 5)
  • Recycled in-game achievement system
  • The in-game achievements gallery is temporarily disabled
  • Added a new character named Oleg
  • Added a new character named Jenna
  • Completely redesigned Sprite Jenna
  • Jenna's icon in the gallery has been changed
  • Added new location: Betram's Shop
  • Added new location: First aid station
  • Added new location: Private room
  • Lin's room has been completely redesigned
  • The "Skip to next choice" button has been removed (we recommend using the "CTRL" button on your keyboard)
  • Added a very cool computer animation in Chapter Five
  • Final credits have been updated (Status on January 14)
  • Fixed a number of misprints in Russian and English versions
  • Fixed a number of bugs that caused the sudden crash of the game


It's very likely that this is not a complete list of changes. This is due to the fact that the current update was originally planned in a slightly different form. However, in the end, it was decided to stop at the type of update that it has now.

We plan to release another update in the near future, which will make it much easier to create custom translations. We will publish detailed information about it closer to the release of the update.

March, 31 (Beta update)

So, ok. It's time to set beta release live.
To get access to beta release in Steam:
1. Right click on Second Chance in steam lib
2. Settings
3. Beta-release
4. Choose "testing_new_content" in list
5. Game will be updated. We can play it.
6. To revert changes, just make the same, but in 4th choose "Decline"

Game starts at chapter 5 - it's ok
When game ends, game will be closed - it's ok

Don't forget to report all bugs in game discussions.
It's not yet finished chapter. It's just public beta.

February, 9 (Update)

Hello everyone!

In today's update, we took a few steps towards unifying the game client and prepared it for porting to android. Yes, you heard right! We've been working on the game port for a long time, and at the moment we've solved all (we hope) the problems that confronted us. The game will soon be ported to android, so that you can enjoy it anywhere!

Among other things, in today's update:


  • Fixed a bug due to which during the fight, Sam's right hand was perceived by the game as the left.
  • Fixed many typos in the Russian version of the game
  • Fixed some mistakes in the English version of the game
  • Credits reworked. Now we are using a new, more convenient and less resource-intensive way to display 'em on the screen.
  • Fixed freezing titles error, now it should disappear completely.
  • Reduced the size of the game client.
  • This update began to do long ago, so that something could not get on the list.

Hello! We are back from our small, impromptu vacation, and have already begun our work!
In today's update, we added:


  • Fixed a bug that did not allow to see Karmala win scene

If at the time you receive a new achievement you may see an error message. This error is caused by the features of the engine and arises from the fact that we have added one more achievement. To prevent the error from appearing again, use the "Reset progress" button in settings menu (Steam achievements will not be lost after pressing it).

Good day, friends!

To be honest, we did not expect such a result. We thought that, at best, in the first couple of months we would be able to overcome the 1000-player milestone. But it turned out that we have already reached 8,000 players in just 5 days! This is an incredible result! Thank You for that!

November, 22 (Update) + Release!

Hello!

So release day has finally come! We ourself can't believe it, but here it is, the Game! Hooray! =)

In today's update, we have corrected some issues so as not to spoil the impression of the release.


  • Added missing descriptions for some achievements and their localization
  • If you can't get achievements in Steam, it means that you got them in the game earlier. In order to get them on Steam, use the "Reset progress" function in the settings menu. After this achievement will begin to synchronize with Steam while playing.
  • Russian credits updated
  • English credits added
  • If you supported the development of the game on the patreon.com/sc website, but your name is not in the credits, then the title rendering was launched before the name list was synchronized. Don't worry - credits will be updated regularly.

Release date changing

As many know, the release of our Steam game was scheduled for November 16th. It is now November 16th, but still its impossible to install the game in Steam, and youre probably tormented by the question - what the hell? Perhaps, in order not to torment you with expectations, we will give an answer to it.

Initially, we planned that the release of the game will take place on November 16th. This date was not chosen by chance, since some of the content was not ready at the time of the announcement. We expected that before this date we would have time to bring all the missing content into the game and correct errors during beta testing. However, we did not take into account some factors that may affect the release date. It was the Steam factor.

The fact is that before publishing the game has to pass some testing from Steam (we are talking directly about the game's client). Normally, this check takes 2-3 days, but in some cases the check can take up to 5 days. Since our client was fully operational, there were no microtransactions and external servers in the game, we expected that the game check would not be delayed. When the 5th day of testing went, it became obvious that everything would not be so simple. After 5 days we received a response and a list of errors that need to be corrected. The peculiarity of the check lies in the fact that the estimated release date also shifted by another 5 days.

When checking a client, there are common and critical errors. Common errors, which are optional to fix and do not affect the possibility of release. Critical errors are errors that do not allow the game to appear in Steam until they are fixed.

The common mistakes were, in particular, the fact that the client was universal for Linux, Windows and MacOS, and not separately. In addition, incomplete English localization was noted and the absence of a pause when calling the Steam overlay.

There were only two critical errors. The first is the presence of the Patreon button in the game, which leads to our page on the Patreon. The second is the inaccuracy in the description of early access, made when translating into English.

Realizing that the re-test will last another 5 days, we focused on correcting critical errors as soon as possible. And even if we had to shed some tears to remove the patreon button, since Patreon is the only source of funding for the development of this game, we did manage. After that, the client was sent for re-verification.

This time the result of the check did not make us wait and came only on the third day. It would seem - we fixed two critical errors and did not create a single new one! After all, this should mean that the game is allowed to release, right? Wrong. The error associated with incomplete English localization, suddenly from the common became into critical. And, as follows from what was described earlier, this postpones the release of the game for another 5 days. Now the nearest possible date is listed as November 21, 2018. However, it is worth bearing in mind that the translation is not yet complete, and, therefore, we cannot promise that the game will be released by this date.

So far, we have changed the release date to November 22. But this date may not be final, if Steam suddenly finds any more errors, or translates olded errors from common into the critical section.
