Today's update to Verdant Skies adds a bunch of user requested quality of life features and fixes a handful of bugs.
- Mods can now specify custom clothing items! Modders can create a ClothingItems.json to specify the items.

- Minor dialog fixes here and there. Achievement typo fixes. Thanks to everyone who reported typos!
- Ramon's unlock achievement now unlocks properly- you no longer need to save and load your game to get the achievement.

Verdant Skies 1.3.2 went live last night. Most notably it contains a fix to a pretty big usability issue with the character customizer. This bug prevented newly created characters from changing the selected item of clothing without a few extra clicks. Version 1.3.0 included a major interface rewrite and got a lot of testing as a result. Unfortunately, this bug was introduced late in the 1.3.0 release cycle after the testing had uncovered some controller issues. Those fixes introduced the character customizer control issue. It also only occurred for new players, since they didn't have clothing items written to their save file yet, which made it a bit harder to find the bug via normal testing. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue! Thanks to everyone who reported it and described the issue. It's a huge help in finding and fixing bugs! Full change list:
- A major usability issue with the character customizer was fixed.
- Teleporter and Teleporter Remote moved to correct crafting UI.
- Energy Bar width displayed incorrectly after increasing your max energy.
- Skye's tripod outside her home can no longer be stolen
- Minor event tweaks

- Relax Miles' wedding event time of day restrictions.

We're happy to announce Verdant Skies 1.2: The Storage Update! This new content update focuses on several different storage related improvements (plus some other goodies, of course!). A new storage box can be constructed very cheaply, and you can place as many as you need to store your goodies. But that's not all; a new collection shop contains all the cosmetic items you've ever unlocked. So you can repurchase items you've lost, sold, or been unable to store. Or maybe you just really want 15 mannequins for your house. To help with seed and animal DNA storage, the transgenic splicer upgrade allows you to combine different species of crops and animal samples. If you're trying to upgrade multiple seeds, this really reduces the number of seeds you need to keep in storage. We've also added seed labels, which let you keep track of your favorite combinations at a glance! The labels show up on the crops grown with the seeds too! Finally, now that we've been our for three months, we're starting our first sale! We're participating in a weeklong deal, and Verdant Skies will be 33% off for a week- starting now. New in version 1.2.0: New Content:
- New storage container with unique contents. Build as many as you need!
- Seed labels! Customize your seed packets in your inventory with custom icons so you know which seed is which. You can assign icons by placing seeds in the output area of the splicer.
- Collection Shop! Repurchase the cosmetic items unlocked when you completed someone's collection. The shop unlocks when you have Miles and Nessa's second event and enter Miles' house.
- Transgenic Splicer: unlock the ability to combine genes across species. Visit Zaheen after you've had their 3rd heart event and unlocked Nessa to start this quest chain.
- New eclipse party event after you've unlocked every character.
- All weddings have some camera animations.
- Chairs can now be rotated to all four directions.
- Dramatic improvements to hose and leash rendering.
- Big improvements to controller support in character editor. Improve controller focus visibility.
- Added new hardware cursor, enabled by default.
- All buildings have matching colors, so you can make your house match now. You'll need to recolor your home.
- Night isn't quite as dark, sky looks better, and color correction improvements.
- Improved clickable regions for various rocks and scrap.
- Lunch events now restore some of your energy.
- New options screen.
- Balance tweaks to craftables. Circuit boards faster and reorganized some objects.
- Tree lamp can be placed on tables, items can be placed on the display shelves.
- Animals can be brought inside your home now, but not into NPC homes.

- Water effects are more consistent across different screen resolutions.
- Fix text scaling on the radial context menu.
- Various minor map fixes, like fixing a few floating flowers.
- Fixed a furniture duplication exploit.

Release Date Announcement!
Its been a busy month, but were thrilled to announce our release date of February 12th. We were hoping to have everything finished by the end of January, but we needed a little more time to make sure we give you the best experience possible at release. The biggest time sink has been getting meaningful daily dialogs written for all of the characters, and thats the main thing were still finishing up. Sorry to disappoint everyone with the slight delay, but itll be worth it! If youve already purchased Verdant Skies through our Humble Bundle widget, thank you! Your key will arrive a few days before launch so you can pre-load the game on your computer. It will unlock when its live on Steam!
New Website and Wiki
Weve upgraded our website with a cleaner look and more intuitive interactions. Its one of those things you do when your game is about to be released! Thanks to the folks over at Gamepedia, we also have a wiki: https://verdantskies.gamepedia.com/ Theyre already filling it in, so if youre worried about spoilers, dont browse too deeply! We just started a discussion forum on Steam. If youve got questions or comments, thats a great place to ask: http://steamcommunity.com/app/730050/discussions/
Mountain Crops
The mountain crops are the most challenging to grow, since they require unlocking the mountain region and having the tier 3 tools. But the more difficult crops have a higher base price, and having access to all 14 crops will allow you to make the most complex recipes that restore the most energy.
Pair Events and Other Romances
Weve been writing events that occur between two characters once youve reached a certain friendship level with both of them. These have been a lot of fun to write, since the player gets to see their differing personality traits interact. Not all of these events are romantic, but if youre not dating either of those characters, they might start expressing interest in eachother!
Followup Dialog
To make the characters seem even more alive, certain events have followup dialog. Especially useful when an event didnt include the player, the followups allow the NPC to confide with the player and share some extra details about the person they were just talking to.
End Game Content
In addition to the blueprints you can unlock through the Planetary Pioneer blueprint system, there are some even more advanced blueprints to unlock through character events. Theyre tough to make, but offer some nice boosts once youve established yourself in the colony.
Finalized Sprites
In the last newsletter we showed you a few stills from our new NPC animations. Heres the full lineup of colonists on Viridis Primus! Youve met most of them, but theres a few we just didnt have time to introduce.
Introducing Nessa Collins
Nessa Collins can be found flitting about her laboratory intensely studying samples from her menagerie. A talented zoologist with an interest in cloning, Nessa will help you improve the quality of your livestock products.

Final Stretch!
We're grateful to all of you folks who have been patiently waiting for our release! We haven't nailed down an exact date yet, but we're in the final phase of testing and clean up, so you should expect to see us on Steam sometime later this month or in early February. Thanks for your patience and engagement throughout the development process. You are why we do what we do! The current count of lines of dialog: 37,862!
New Machines
Sarah Seember Huisken has been at it again! Check out these gorgeous additions. The animal genetic splicer will function similarly to the crop genetic splicer (left). Once you get your ideal DNA sample you can bring your new animal to life in the animal incubator (right).
Marsh Crops
There are 14 different crops that grow in three different regions. It seems we haven't shared too many screenshots of them yet, so here are a few of the marsh crops!
New NPC Animations
We've had the chance to work with a group of very talented local artists while making Verdant Skies. The most recent is Ethan Calabria who jumped in to finish the NPC sprite walking cycle animations.
We're still making minor adjustments to the facial features, so these aren't exactly what you'll see in game. Once we've settled on the style of eyes, nose, and mouth that we wish to use, we'll give all the NPCs a more uniform appearance.
UI Updates
Andy's been working hard to make sure that the in game user interface (UI) is uniform and streamlined. Here's a peek at the progress he's made on the achievement panel where players can track their achievement progress.
Introducing Ramn Martnez
Space travel is not something Ramn Martnez would have ever considered if it weren't for his twin sister, Rosie. Though risk-averse, Ramn could not refuse her request to serve as the colony's nurse. Always the overprotective brother, Ramn spends most of his time watching over Rosie... Whether she likes it or not.

Announcing Mod Support!
Customize artwork, dialogs, mails, items, crafting recipes and more using the Verdant Skies modding system! Since development started, we knew we wanted to support modding. We're allowing users to use the same methods we used to create the content for the game to create their own content.
Load multiple mods at once, and sort them in priority order (if mods override the same content, the one on top takes precedence).
With the modding system, you can override just about any artwork in the game. We also provide an option to export the artwork of character you've created in the dressing room, to make it much easier to create new characters. You can add new items, and decide what is needed to craft those items:
All of the character events were created using our dialog editor, which is fully available to mod authors. This scripting is easy to jump into, you don't need to know a programming language to make something really neat. You can add events to existing characters, replace events, or even add new characters. You can also create mails and quests. Each character's core info can be changed too - such as their schedule, where they wander, if they require exclusive dating, their pet names for the player, and the things that they collect.
Right now, there are a few limitations. While all the quests in-game were created by this system, a few of them have special triggers in the code that you won't be able to replicate. These are mostly tutorial-type quests that trigger when you do something special, like grow your first crop in the marsh. At launch, you won't be able to create new houses for your new characters... fortunately, players can construct a visitor lodge with plenty of room for new NPCs. And finally, we're still working on a way to allow modders to specify their own waypoints when scripting events that include a lot of walking.
New Tool Upgrades
Here's some more awesome icon work from Sarah Seember Huisken. Upgraded fishing spears throw faster and your catch radius increases - making it easier to get the elusive '3 fish with one spear' achievement.
Meet Anthony Washington
Anthony Washington is Jade's younger brother. Rebellious by nature, Anthony refused to take part in their family's business and instead pursued a career in the military. However, after being injured in the line of duty, he has graciously accepted Jade's invitation to serve as the colony's security officer.

🎮 Full Controller Support
- Linux [706.99 M]
With many natural skin tone options and tons of unique hair styles and clothing choices you can easily craft your perfect avatar. Unlike many games in this genre, Verdant Skies doesn't ask you to choose a gender when you create your character. As you help to grow the colony, you will unlock additional datable residents.
Split your time wisely between activities as you help to build your colony. Gather resources, decorate your home, grow crops, go spear fishing, cook interesting meals, befriend your fellow colonists, and maybe even fall in love...
