V 0.11 is out! Posters, Currencies and new UI
Many of you have mentioned that prices are rather unrealistic in EUR or USD or other local currency. But in game currency has always been in DKK (Danish Krone) as that made it much easier for me to relate to that value, and when we started programming, we didn't give it much thought. However, this is now finally changed with the arrival of the currency converter.
With this you can select from some predefined currencies, or define your very own. So hopefully it will allow for a more relatable experience.
A couple of updates ago posters were introduced to the game to lift the visuals of the stores. However as I have learned some new tricks since then, this have been upgraded even further. First of all you can now create your own posters in-game with the Poster Editor. Add and transform shapes, add various patterns and select their color. Add texts, add an image of an article, and so on. You can also upload your own images and use these as in-game posters.
These posters can be placed different places. First of all the displays all uses this system now, allowing for much more variety on these. But you can also buy frames and place these on the floor, on the wall and make them hang from the ceiling. You can also place them just outside your store, meaning you can decorate a bit on the outside too. Also now the posters actually influence the customers. As you can define if a poster advertises cheap articles or perhaps quality articles, you can influence your customers to buy articles in a specific direction. You can also advertise a specific article, and create hype for it.
It was also time to change the main menu from its late 90's look to something a bit more modern. Also since some languages weren't supported by the font that was used it needed to change. So I gave it an overhaul in an attempt to make it look a bit more modern.
Whether i succeeded or not is for you to decide, but I think it's an acceptable look.
But seeing the change of this, I wanted to bring a similar look to the in game menus itself. So each in game menu has also been given an overhaul Hopefully it will make the game look more unified, without having lots of different UI styles all over. There are some screens that are left behind, but this is because they will be completely redone in a later patch anyway.
During the overhaul, it made sense to completely overhaul some of the menus instead. One of these was the ordering menu.
I have added a lot of the features that you have requested over time. First of all it has been organized better, which should make stuff more intuitive. Secondly there are options to how it counts the stock, as well as the price to display. Then you have various ways of ordering, as well as various possibilities for that ordering type. I hope this is more to your liking compared to the old version.
This was also a screen that made more sense to change completely. So hopefully it is also now a bit more intuitive, as well as containing more explanations on what the various stuff do.
Thanks to our publisher, the game is also now fully translated in Russian by one of the employees that actually speaks the language (compared to the Google Translating i use to fill out remaining words that haven't been translated in our community translator). So this is the current standing of the translations:
If you want to help out improving a language you can go to: https://translate.kingofretail.com/
A lot of bugs has also been fixed, as well as other minor features has been changed or added. The main ones to mention is: - The color picker is now full screen, and doesn't take up UI space when not used. It will be improved with easier color selection in the future. - At your office the polaroids seemed to stack on top of each other. They shouldn't any more. - A bug where changing opening hours didn't update staff properly has been fixed. - Copy pasting colors can be done across both registers and displays - Shoes have been made a bit more expensive. Again, reports on bugs you encounter are more than welcome :-)
Finally, after all of this time doing it myself, I now have a graphics artist helping me. And this should hopefully speed the work flow up a lot. In fact she is already preparing stuff for the next update, which will mostly focus on store fronts, store building and more decorations.
This is an early draft, but this and more is what you can expect in the future. More on what actually will be possible will be explained in later posts.
I sometimes just look around the internet to see what is happening, and sometimes i even sumble across something interesting :P On youtube we found this channel, created by Boubers. Currently he is at his 236'th video of King of Retail. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmwoa9RPHu0&list=PLsplF0RK5hvtUVyLDf1iyuc79xwDvfiWT&index=234&ab_channel=Boubers That is quite a humbling dedication, so I wanted to pay my respects in return and share his channel with the rest of you. This is what I had to tell about this update. I hope you will enjoy the changes and the new features. Feedback, bug reports and great ideas are always welcome both here and on our discord. Dear Retailers! Two months have already gone by, time flies by fast. But these two months has not gone idly by. Again a lot of new updates and changes have made it into the game.
--- New Updates ---
--- Currency converter ---
Many of you have mentioned that prices are rather unrealistic in EUR or USD or other local currency.
--- Poster System ---
A couple of updates ago posters were introduced to the game to lift the visuals of the stores. However as I have learned some new tricks since then, this have been upgraded even further. King of Retail is a store management simulation game, where you as the owner of a new store must make the right decisions to make your store thrive and bring you the big bucks. Can you handle the pressure, or will you fail miserably in a big bankruptcy?
As the owner and manager you have a lot of responsibilities on a daily basis.
You must:
All of this is is just an ordinary day as a store owner.
Are you ready to take on the challenge? If yes, then King of Retail is the game for you.
As the owner and manager you have a lot of responsibilities on a daily basis.
You must:
Choose the direction of your store
Should it be a Shoe Store for the fashionable type, an Electronics Store for your everyday needs, or a giant Hypermarket that sells a bit of everything? Not everything will work. Trying to sell high-fashion, high-priced items in the poor part of town will not generate endless queues at your register. Will you try to dominate a competitive market, or go in an unexplored direction.Control the article flow
For an article to be taken home by a customer, a lot of things must be taken care of. First you must select and order the articles. For a delivery to take place, the storage space must be able to receive and handle the delivered articles. The sales area must have the right displays and registers to showcase and sell the articles. Building a good relationship with your suppliers is key to be able to sell their more exclusive items. Oh, and by the way, which article should be the first for your customers to see when they enter your store? The bulk selling jeans, or the hyped silk shirt?Get people inside your store
Build your reputation among your customers, and make your store the most sought after in town. A good marketing scheme, along with happy customers will work wonders for your income. But don't oversell your idea. If you can't keep what you promise, the customers will leave the store dissatisfied, and nothing ruins a store quicker than unhappy customers. Please the customer
Create an enjoyable atmosphere for your customers to shop in, and theme your store, so they will know it is YOUR store they have entered. Make sure they receive the help they need, and that the lines for the registers don't grow too long. Manage the in-store marketing, so that both the fashionistas and the discount-hunters knows where to go, and which article to pick.Manage your personnel
When you have too much on your plate to handle yourself, it might be the time for you to get some staff. Find interesting candidates among the applications. Conduct interviews, get a feel for the person, and decide if they match the role you need taken care of. Negotiate their salary and hire them. Keep them happy, and make sure they are not overworked. A great working climate gives great dedication. But you still need to sort the slackers from the workers. Invest time in the right persons, and train them to become better so when you need a stand-in for yourself, when you move to the next store, you can pick from your own home-grown talents.Optimize the store
The difference between a good store and a great store lies in the detail. Weed out the poor selling articles, and get more of the good ones. Make sure you don't order unnecessarily many articles, but still enough that you don't run out. Optimize the prizes to increase the income. Find the customer patterns and adjust the opening hours accordingly. Plan an efficient staff schedule, so you don't pay people for doing nothing.Prepare for big events
Is a VIP coming? Christmas soon? Black Friday? Can you spot the next big trend before anyone else? Adjust your actions according to the events occurring in a dynamic city that changes day by day.All of this is is just an ordinary day as a store owner.
Are you ready to take on the challenge? If yes, then King of Retail is the game for you.
