Hello, everyone! National Park Girls 5.1.2 has just been released, which fixes various issues including trophy functionality and Linux support. It also adds native Apple Silicon (arm64 / AArch64) support on macOS, as well as native support for ARM Linux (arm64 / AArch64, armv7) notably including Asahi Linux! As always, thank you for continuing to support Studio lan! Karen/ (akemin_dayo)
Changelog for 5.1.2:
On PC, it targets Ren'Py SDK version 8.1.3.23091805.
- Added a detailed README found in the game directory.
- Completely rewrote trophy functionality, which fixes all known issues related to earning trophies.
- Added trophies for Episode 5.
- Fixed all known crashes on Linux and SteamOS 3 / Holo.
- Fixed an issue where a certain screen would never show for players that purchased Episode 5 and have its content mounted.
- When Episode 5 content is mounted, this screen will now appear after the epilogue instead of after the Episode 4 credits sequence.
- The current version of the game is now shown in the top left corner of the preference pane.
- Apple Silicon (arm64 / AArch64) is now natively supported on macOS, without any need for Apple's Rosetta 2 x86_64 translation layer!
- Added native support for ARM Linux (arm64 / AArch64, armv7) notably including Asahi Linux (arm64e / Apple Silicon)!
- Note for ARM Linux users: You will not be able to earn Steam achievements/trophies while running native ARM Linux builds of the game, as Valve currently only provides an x86_64 version of the Steamworks dynamic library for Linux (libsteam_api.so).
- If you run the x86_64 build of the game via a translation layer such as Box64 or FEX, Steam achievements/trophies should work as expected.
- Note for ARM Linux users: You will not be able to earn Steam achievements/trophies while running native ARM Linux builds of the game, as Valve currently only provides an x86_64 version of the Steamworks dynamic library for Linux (libsteam_api.so).
- Made various other internal refactors and improvements.
Hey everyone, Syon here! It's absolutely insane to think about it, but it's officially been five years since the first episode of National Park Girls launched. As cliche as it is to say, it feels like both a lifetime ago and not very long ago at all. Either way, I'm so glad we got Episode 5 out before reaching this milestone. That would've been embarrassing. To celebrate this occasion, I'm stoked to reveal that we've got a couple announcements for ya! The first of these announcements is small, but important. Steam achievements are finally fixed across the board, the credits in Episode 5 display now, and the art gallery has been updated with lovely new art. Including work from lan's very own Adirosa. It won't be the last update, though. Because we'll soon be doing a massive overhaul of National Park Girls. This includes:
- Redone backgrounds.
- Completely new UI.
- Increased accessibility options.
- Improvement to sprite direction (specifically so that everyone is facing each other when speaking, like in Episode 5.
- Additional proofreading and slight quality of life adjustments to the script.
- An additional key visual from Satchely.
Very soon, all five episodes of National Park Girls will be delisted from digital platforms and replaced with one release that includes every episode. This has been something we've wanted to do for quite a long time, and I can think of no better opportunity than now. We're still figuring out details such as what price this edition will be retailing at, so stay tuned. While I love NPG's episodic structure, it has often deterred people from enjoying the series. With this update, I hope more people will get to experience Eve's story. And finally, it will be National Park Girls: Love Our Parks Edition that we will be offering up as a physical release! Over the last several years, Studio lan and Bellhouse titles have received physical editions, and National Park Girls will soon accompany them. Expect to be able to purchase the physicals at conventions we booth at and the Studio lan webstore. More details will be revealed at a later date. In addition to all these announcements, we are pleased to let you know that we'll be offering a batch of brand new NPG keychains featuring the various Park Girls, drawn by our friends Ringo and Myuto! Expect those on the webstore and at conventions as well.
Once again, thank you for continuing to play and enjoy National Park Girls. My life would look quite different without these nature gremlins. I hope they've brought as much to your life as they have to mine. - Syon

That's right, the episode 5 will release exactly 2 weeks from today. It's been a long time coming and the finale is finally here. You can read more about this announcement here. [previewyoutube=b9hmgB1SroM;full][/previewyoutube] National Park Girls - Episode 2: Eternal Evergreen Part 2 is the final installment of National Park Girls. After an incident that shakes her to her very core, former park ranger Eve Aadams casts herself into exile. In the scorched depths of Death Valley National Park, she plans to ride out the rest of her days. That is, of course, unless Yosemite has anything to say about it. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2310480/National_Park_Girls__Episode_5_Eternal_Evergreen_Part_2/

Hey everyone, Syon here! Not too long of a gap between Episode 3 and Episode 4 this time. We're getting better tat this, huh?
If you don't know by now and it wasn't obvious already, National Park Girls - Episode 4: Eternal Evergreen Part 1 has been released! Join Eve and Yosemite as they go on an adventure across the park to uncover long forgotten secrets about Yosemite's past. Meanwhile, Yellowstone and Zion play a very existential game of Uno.
I hope you enjoy this episode of NPG as much as the other episodes! Episode 5 might take us a little longer just because of how many new art assets there will be (hope you like new outfits), but I'm sure it will be worth it.
Speaking of Episode 5, you may notice that your saves are (once again) broken upon downloading Episode 4. We're really sorry about this and figured it wouldn't happen again. However, we had to overhaul our sprite engine in preparation for Episode 5, and as a result, things went kaplooie. Whoops. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about it, as the engine overhaul was necessary for efficiency and optimization. Otherwise, NPG would run sluggishly on your hi-tech pro gamer PC.
To explain it in a little more detail, here's our programmer, Kari. Take it away, Kari!

Howdy campers, today is the release of National Park Girls Episode 4! Last night, we pushed out an update to make the game compatible with it, and prepare for Episode 5. The sprite engine NPG was originally based on was extremely heavy, inefficient, and mostly a holdover from old tech that was designed before this game was even planned. It's always been a problem that caused NPG to stutter at points, which for a visual novel, is pretty crazy.
Fixing this would have required remaking how the sprites work completely from scratch, and it always ended up being something we didn't have time for during the development of episodes 2 and 3 and pushed back. With episode 5 on the horizon, we knew we had to change it before it was too late. Episode 5 is by far the most ambitious one, there's a ton it adds, and if we used the old engine the workload would have doubled. There's a lot of technical and logistical reasons why, but this was the only way we'd be able to keep making episodes for the game without it exploding.
There is a downside to this, unfortunately. Retooling the game to have it do what we need it to for episodes 4 and 5 will break saves. We weren't really sure if it would before we pushed the update, but there was a chance of it. Between potentially breaking saves, and giving National Park Girls the finale it deserves, we chose the latter. Your gallery progress and achievements should be unaffected, but we know getting back to a specific place in the story can be annoying. We're continuing to look into a solution for it, and will keep you updated on progress.
We apologize for the inconvenience, and we're going to work as hard as we can to bring our ambitions to life, and make a grand finale worthy of National Park Girls.
Thank you for playing, reading, and understanding.
Happy Trails!
Kari

So there you have it! We deeply apologize for the trouble, but we promise that this is what's best for NPG and will make for a far more pleasant experience.
Enjoy Episode 4! We're in the home stretch now.

National Park Girls - Episode 3: Daughter of Zion will release on November 6th, 2020! Make sure to put it on your Steam wishlist so you can catch up with the girls as soon as it drops!
Hey everyone, Syon here! You've all been very patiently waiting, so now it's time to reward you!

Hey everyone, Syon here! We're a little past our originally planned June release date, so I should probably apologize for that. There were a lot of art delays and programming issues we had to work out over this period. Unintended consequences of having an episodic release schedule. That said, I'm happy to announce to you all that National Park Girls - Episode 2: Happy Trails will be releasing on Steam on October 21st, 2019. Just one weeks away! The Steam page is already up for your wishlisting pleasure, so you can head on over there to check that out as you count down the days to release. We might've had some delays, but the future for NPG is definitely bright. Onward to Episode 2 and beyond!
Hey everybody, we pushed a big NPG update yesterday in preparation for Episode 2. The biggest thing to note is that we've taken out the 3D Camera and reanimated all sprite, pans, and zooms. This was done because the 3D Camera had a history of breaking saves during updates, which would have presented a problem for future episode releases. The rest are pretty self-explanatory, save for the credits button. Right now it doesn't do anything, but it will be functional when Episode 2 releases.
- Moved the skip and auto icons to the other side of the screen.
- Reanimated episode 1 to use standard movement.
- Added in infrastructure for future episode content delivery.
- Add a currently non functional credits button to the main menu.
Hey everyone, Syon here. Sorry for the silence on our end when it comes to Episode 2 updates. We recently made an announced on our Twitter and our Patreon that Episode 2 would be delayed from June to sometime later in the Summer. Again, I'm really sorry about this. Steam announcements tend to get neglected in the PR rush. But yeah, unfortunately, Episode 2 has been pushed back due to delays with the art. Worry not, though! Satchel is free to work on art once again, so production is going back to zipping along. In the meantime, however, check out this nifty next episode preview narrated by Yellowstone! I hope it gives you a taste of what to expect in Episode 2! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Vr6vzgzA38
A new patch for Episode 1 went live today. Mostly just some bug fixes, though some assets and writing were tweaked to help support future elements of the story and the VN's overall development. - Fixed bug that caused pressing F1 to crash the game - Fixed Exit not working on Gallery and Episode screens - Fixed music loops for Devastation and Cabin Fever - Yosemite's box of research now says "MIWOK" instead of "ACHAWEE"
Hey everyone, Syon here. I'm the director and head scenario writer on National Park Girls. Each and every one of us at Studio Coattails hope you enjoyed National Park Girls Episode 1. and we thank you for the successful release. If you're already feeling those post-NPG blues, then don't worry. I'm here to give you a thorough explanation for what our plan is in regards to future episodes. Right now, we're all working very hard to make sure that there's only a three month wait between episodes of National Park Girls. So in an ideal world, our release schedule looks like this: Episode 1 - March 14th, 2019 (RELEASED) Episode 2 - June, 2019 Episode 3 - September, 2019 Episode 4 - December, 2019 Episode 5 - March, 2020 The plan is for there to be five episodes in total, all similar in length to Episode 1. Of course, plans may change depending on fan feedback, and development is a fickle process and releases could always be delayed, but we're going to try our hardest to stick to this schedule. Each new episode of National Park Girls will be available as DLC. Each episode will be priced at $4.99. In the future, there will be an option to purchase a bundle with all five episodes. More news on that down the road. For now, we hope you continue to look forward to the adventures and hijinks of Eve and her new Park Girl friends! - Syon

All Eve ever wanted was to protect and preserve the land, but after five years of being a ranger in Yosemite National Park, she’s just about ready to throw in the towel. The people are careless, her co-workers are annoying, and thanks to an increasingly tight budget she can hardly do her job. Fed up and burned out, Eve lashes out, but after being transferred to a remote cabin post in return, she only finds herself more uncertain of the value of being a ranger. Soon after arriving, three strange girls corner her in the cabin. Not only do they claim to live there, but they also say they’re the manifestations of Zion, Yellowstone, and Yosemite National Parks! Are these girls really who they say they are? Why is Yosemite so obsessed with her research? And why does one of them have a volcano on their head? Follow Eve as she gets closer with these spritely cuties that put the “natural” in “supernatural,” and maybe even discovers a new kind of love for the parks.
