As you may know, the video game industry is weathering a storm, and the team at Might & Delight have unfortunately not been spared from it. Earlier this year, we had to make the incredibly difficult decision to scale down our team. It has been a rough year, and weve been silent on our social channels as weve been focused on our team both the friends that weve had to say goodbye to, and the team that remains. Were still settling into our new normal, but we wanted to let you know that we are here, were working on our games and there are some things that we want to share with you. Weve been around for nearly fifteen years as an indie game developer, and we have a long, proud history of making games. We believe in game preservation and we aim to make sure our games are available to anyone who has supported us throughout the years. As we make decisions for existing titles and future projects, please know that this will be our guiding principle. Our team is smaller now, and we will need to be mindful of how many projects we work on simultaneously to ensure that we keep our team healthy and our projects manageable. However, our intention is to keep up maintenance of our existing titles, as well as finish development of projects that have been in the pipeline for a while. Regarding Book of Travels, our main focus for the foreseeable future will be to roll out several patches that are in the making including fixes and community requests and were also aiming to, among other things, do a balancing pass for the inventory, and look into releasing some map updates. During the next couple of months, youll notice our activity picking up on Discord and Steam. We want you to know that we are here, we listen to your feedback and well do our very best to keep you all in the loop as we roll out future patches. We are excited to say that we have a new game project slated for release in the fall of 2025. When we were a bigger team, we worked on the concept of this game in parallel for a couple of years, and at the time of writing this, were already halfway through development. We look forward to sharing more about it with you in the new year. For now, however, our main focus will be on our existing game catalogue. Also, for all you lovely people who supported Book of Travels on Kickstarter; please keep an eye on Kickstarter updates and/or your inbox. Beyond upcoming Steam updates, we will also be sharing some information directly with all backers early next year. Hello!

I hope you're all well. I come bearing news about Meadow, our online multiplayer animal roleplaying game (mouthful, innit?), which as you may know is set in the world of Shelter. Its been a good while since we gave you an update on the game, and as we approach the anniversary we thought we would touch base and let you know what the future for Meadow looks like - at least in broad terms. As many of you know we at Might and Delight have recently released Book of Travels to Early Access and rebuilt our team, and so weve also been able to allocate more staff and resources to the further development of Meadow. Whilst we arent ready to go into detail on exactly what we're working on today, we can confirm that we do indeed have plans for new features, quality of life improvements, stability updates, downloadable content and more for Meadow. In the coming weeks we will update and reveal the specific details of these plans and what it means for Meadow and the world of Shelter in general. The development of these new features has already started, as people may have noticed with our first beta release, but as this grows it will affect the overall production cost of Meadow, and so in the future we will raise the price of the game. This will also put us in a better position to support Meadow long term. Were expecting this change will be applied in early November, to coincide with new features being released. Dear Shelter Lovers,

After the hecticness of launch we wanted to pop in and respond to some of your reviews and feedback. Thank you, as always, for posting them - good and bad! As some of you have pointed out, we did indeed design Shelter 3 as a different kind of game to its predecessors, and that was a conscious decision - we wanted to explore something new. Choosing elephants as our protagonists was an early expression of that direction: we liked that elephants are neither fast nor hunters and that their empathy and collective will make for characteristics we could design for. But in the end the game could work better, and this is a fact that can only be explained by the complexity of running development schedules for two games simultaneously. Without a doubt, building Book of Travels simultaneously has stretched our team wide and left some aspects lacking in Shelter 3. So we're here to say that we're genuinely so sorry to hear that fans have been disappointed (we hear you) and were incredibly grateful to those who have stuck with us despite the hiccups and deficits they found in their game experience. We hope it helps you to know that our first patch is already up and that we will continue with a scheduled plan of patches as well as bug fixes. Now, as previously, we value your feedback and will act on it where we can. But we should be clear that beyond fixes, Shelter 3 wont change much. We hope that your replay experiences will bring you more satisfaction... Hello!

The release of Shelter 3 is just on the horizon, and in the third of our posts celebrating its predecessors, Shelter 3, were exploring the musical style thats such a huge part of the personality of Shelter games. And to share in full spirit, were giving away the full Shelter 2 soundtrack as a free gift in our Shelter newsletter. We could all use a little musical sunshine in these dark days! Scoring for Wilderness

The soundtracks for all Shelter games are composed and performed by Swedish band Retro Family, who work in close collaboration with the developers. Shelters uniquely loose and live sound began as a quest for a sound that would blend nicely with the ambience of nature says Sound Designer Josef Tuulse, I also wanted to leave space in the spectrum for the calls of the badgers. We came up with a soundtrack that was quite heavy on the low end and shimmering in the highs, where the voice of the guitar can express freely and comment on the narrative. In life and in gameplay, intuition is what being an animal is all about, and an intuitive, emotive approach also leads the musical composition. Retro Familys Ulf Wahlgren explains: Jokke is very good at creating sounds and feelings in the studio, so it's more about that then the actual instruments for Shelter. The studios philosophy is to leave the player to interpret their play experience, and sound design plays a big role in setting that tone. As Ulf says, The music for Shelter is about 25% avant-garde, I always feel that this genre lets the listener decide what it feels like. White noise will be beautiful and soothing to some, yet scary and claustrophobic to others.

Music for Elephants

Due for release in quarter two this year, Shelter 3 will see the series move from tundra to jungle and from lynx family to elephant herd. So what might we expect from a Shelter 3 soundtrack? We want to give players all the comfort of returning to the Shelter universe as well as something new, says Josef, Elephants are big and heavy but also gentle and caring. It's our aim to give these same qualities to the music

Retro Family are Ulf Wahlgren, Jokke Pettersson and Alfred Andersson and are also working on music for Book of Travels which weve also featured in this weeks Steam post. There are many things about Might and Delight that make us a little bit different, and one of those is that as well as games weve also made books. To date weve published five illustrated books set in the world of Shelter, they comprise two living books, three wordless comic books and a picture book. Today we want to let you know a little bit about them and show you how you can get some of them (almost all of them!) for free!

Fables from the Den

A living book from the world of Shelter Fables from the Den is a living book using concept art from Meadow. The papery, watercolour aesthetic and atmospheric audio provide the backdrop to fables told by the animals from their underground den. Meadow players will recognise this den as the place where they select their player-animal and set out on an adventure see that den in a whole new light after reading Fables from the Den.

What does it unlock in Meadow?

Owning Fables from the Den will unlock a 3D raincloud emote in Meadow.

How can I get it?

Fables from the Den is currently just under $3.00 on Steam or comes as part of our Shelter Bundle (currently down by 85% in the Steam Winter Sale).

Blossom, Symbols and Trails

Comics about a lynx family from the world of Shelter 2 Told entirely with illustrations and emotes, Blossom, Symbols and Trails tell stories about a lynx cub and their family. These wordless comics were made by Lisa Richardson, a Meadow fan with a deep appreciation for Meadow emotes, after she shared her artwork on the Meadow community hub. Since wed made books before, it seemed that working with Lisa to make another was a perfect collaboration.

What does it unlock in Meadow?

Symbols in your library will unlock the wolf in Meadow, while owning Trails also unlocks a wolf skin and 3D butterfly emote. Blossom unlocks a wolf and cub skin and a 3D counting flower emote.

How can I get them?

Trails also comes as a free gift in part two of our newsletter. You'll need to install Meadow with the free key from your welcome email first. (Watch this brief video on how to access them) You can pick up Blossom and Symbols individually on Steam or as part of the Shelter Bundle deal.

The Lonesome Fog

A living book about bear cubs from the world of Meadow Take a look at the Lonesome Fog and youll see just what this we-had-to-make-it-up format offers the gently animated scenery really brings the wildlife setting to life. The story follows a small bear cub and celebrates the peculiar magic of chance meetings. Meadow players will know how central that magic is to the game and in this case, a chance meeting proves both a comfort and a secret treasure.

What does it unlock in Meadow?

Adding the Lonesome Fog to your Steam library unlocks the 3D fog emote.

How can I get it?

the Lonesome Fog is a DLC available on Steam for just under $2.00 and is also part of the Shelter Bundle.

The Circle

A picture book about badgers from the first Shelter game The first ever Might and Delight book was made by the team to explore one of the main themes in Shelter, the circle of life. This simple story presents the simple and powerful logic of nature in one striking image but we wont tell you what it is! Take a look instead and then tell us what you think!

What does it unlock in Meadow?

The Circle is the only book that doesnt unlock anything but the good news is that it is free to download right here. Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know us and our books. Thanks to the Book of Travels Kickstarter, we've seen many new players in the world of Shelter this last year, so if you're one of them (or even if you're a Shelter officiando!), we think you'll find something to like in this little guide. And in the weeks to come, we'll be sharing more stories and fun facts about the series. (And if you haven't already, you can wishlist the game with the button at the end of this post.)

Badgers! The very first Shelter game

What are its defining features?

• Shelter is a linear adventure where you play as a badger looking after her cubs
• The setting is both naturalistic and harsh threats and dangers are many, and bereavement is highly likely
• The games graphical style nature inspired geometrical patterns and textures sets it apart from other animal games

We knew we wanted to make a game with an animal-player and wed intended to make something casual and somewhat quiet. In the end we had something that was both of those things but also very emotional, and it reached a much wider audience than wed hoped for. Lynx! Protect your cubs in Shelter 2

What are its defining features?

• Shelter 2 is non-linear and open world: expect a greater variety of story experiences
• Players meet a somewhat more gentle (but no less moving) ending than they do in Shelter
• Not all aspects of the game are informed by naturalistic observations mysterious occurrences feature
• As opposed to Shelter, food is a moving target, players need to hunt to stay alive
• Shelter 2 has a higher graphical profile and is the first Might and Delight game to be published on Switch

What the developers say

Shelter 2 was an opportunity to explore a much less linear game design, instead we wanted to invite players to roam freely with no other goal than to rear their cubs to adulthood. We also wanted to introduce something a bit mysterious and otherworldly into the game Peter Strhle, 2D Artis

Elephants! Lead the herd in Shelter 3

What are its defining features?

• The third in the series has players looking after a whole herd of elephants
• As a result, play will be slower, but the need for food will be even more pressing
• Players will enjoy a sense of community with other elephants
• The theme shifts from motherhood and family to legacy and inheritance

What the developers say

Until now, Shelter games have focussed on animal families. With Shelter 3, we had a strong feeling that we wanted to make a Shelter experience thats more social elephants are incredibly sociable and that allows us to create a very different game experience Sofia Papworth, Lead Programmer

Hello!

Following the brilliant turnout for our Meadow birthday party last month we've been listening to your feedback and made some plans for more statues and achievements. That's right, the fun will go on! Only this time the statues will stay for good, which is just as well because they're not easy to spot!

Every Month a Creature

For each month until the release of Shelter 3 next year, we'll be placing ten statues of an animal from Shelter 3 in the Meadow world. That's nine more animals altogether and we're going to reveal them one by teasey one as the months roll by ;) As with the anniversary elephants, you'll unlock achievements for the first, fifth and tenth statues you find.

Spot the Crocs!

Next you'll be able to hunt low slung crocs across the game world - check them out on podium number two and keep your eyes peeled! We hope you enjoy seeking them out and showing the way and sharing your findings, and best of all, there is absolutely no rush. We hope you like the crocs! See you in the Meadow! Hello!

A great big thank you to all of you who shared and played our Anniversary Play Event last weekend: we broke our 10k player target and raised a welcome donation for Safe in Our World. We saw lots of you sharing the event on your social channels and some of you helping newbies around the place, and we do appreciate that for a fair few of you the Meadow was a little more crowded than you're used to - so thanks for sharing your space for the party <3

Elephants return

We're glad you enjoyed helping one another visit them all, and we've heard that many of you don't feel super keen on time limited achievements, so we'll be putting them back for another ten days, which we hope will be enough time for new players to find them all and will allow previous ones to finish up. Expect to see them some time on May 5th. We might add a few extra too, more info on that next week. You'll get achievements for the first, fifth and tenth elephant that you visit.

More Shelter 3 statues to come...

The elephants were so popular that we thought we'd make some more statues for you to find, so in the next couple of months we'll be dropping a different kind of animal in for another ten days. Every animal will be from Shelter 3, and our first new animal will be appearing in June. We hope this is good news for you and thanks again for a really great super feel good anniversary weekend! About this time in April ten years ago, Might and Delight was made, and to celebrate suitably in these times of lockdown we're holding a great big Meadow play event. For the duration of the play event all profit from our Steam sales will go to charity Safe in Our World, and if we get 10,000 players joining us in #Meadow we'll add 25% to that donation - so please join us, bring your friends along... and help us get to 10,000 players by sharing the event on Twitter and beyond! Safe in our Worlds mission is to create and foster worldwide mental health awareness within the video game industry and beyond. Founded by industry veterans in 2019, the charity is currently working to promote positive mental health in the Covid-19 crisis - you can read more about their work here. The event begins on Thursday April 23rd and will end at midnight on Sunday 25th. As well as obelisks to unlock together, there will be some special edition statues of elephants to find, which will gain achievements.

Hello!

Today we are really excited to share this, our new trailer! We hope you like it. Much like an elephant, development is coming along slowly but surely. Currently the team are working on elephant behaviours, level design and bringing some animal NPCs to life.

Elephant Development

But we would like to be further along than this by now, and today we're writing to let you know that we've had to revise our schedule - release is now set for a realistic early 2021. We're sorry - we know that some of you have been waiting so patiently! But we're a small team and along with updating Meadow, we just don't have the resources to move much faster than this. This means that we won't be working on any new updates for Meadow until Shelter 3 is released. Pulling resources away from Meadow means that we can fully commit to our deadline for Shelter 3, however we do have plans for some fun Meadow updates when that time comes - we think it will be worth the wait!

Meadow in the Meantime

Meadow has been an unexpected high point in our journey and we want to say a huge thank you for making Meadow what it is today - it's been four years of animal joy, and we've never stopped being surprised, touched and deeply grateful for all that you have produced and shared. Thank you. Our recent Kickstarter means that there's been a few new faces in Meadow recently, and we'll continue to do more Play-with-the-devs events (one soon-to-be-announced for April). We also want you to know that the emotes you've been using so effectively will be gaining a sibling in our upcoming fairytale RPG, Book of Travels. Again, to all Meadow players, a huge thank you for helping us test and develop this communication system and showing us how magical it can be. Hello! As I write we are nearing the end of our Kickstarter campaign for Book of Travels, and if you've been thinking of getting involved and backing us but haven't done it yet, now is the time! We write to you now to update you on two very important topics! Rewardsand... a cat!
