An epilepsy warning has been added to the store page and the intro sequence of every build of the game. This was a massive oversight on my part and was something I've been meaning to add for a long time but never managed to get round to it until now, for which I can only apologise. It should have been in the game at launch, but as this was my first game I overlooked this crucial element. Again, I'm sorry, and I hope this hasn't affected anyone too badly.

As it's now been more than a year since the game's release, I've decided to permanently reduce the price to $2.99/1.99/2.38 for the foreseeable future. Hope you're all safe and doing ok!

Hey everyone, Over the past few days I've configured Steam Cloud Save functionality for the game and released the entire soundtrack for free on Steam for current owners of the game. Cloud saves should work automatically, but the soundtrack will need to be manually downloaded as free DLC. Enjoy! Andy

Hi everyone, I've just released Mac and Linux versions of the game. The process of uploading these to Steam was extremely fiddly, and I hope I've done everything right. In the event that something doesn't work correctly, let me know asap on contact@contortionistgames.co.uk and I'll look into it. Thanks, Andy

Hi everyone, I've spent the day fixing things and adding a few new features based on player feedback. I've fixed enough to actually give this update a new number (v 1.1). In no particular order:
- Fixed a bug that meant it was impossible to progress through chapter 3 (the section after CONVINCE/SYMPATHISE) if you had to play through it more than once
- Tidied up some dialogue here and there
- Added an options menu (accessible either from the title menu or the pause menu)
- Added the ability to change SFX and music volumes from the options menu
- Also added an option to turn off the CRT flickering effects should you wish. This might be a little buggy when loading up a save from before this update, but if you turn the option off and on again a couple of times it should work

Hopefully I've got them all, but if you see any I've missed then let me know!

Huge thanks to everyone who's played it so far. Unsurprisingly, after doing a marathon re-write of most of the dialogue yesterday I introduced a few new typos which I didn't catch before releasing the game. Oops. I've just combed through the text now and fixed them (I also had the fiance of one of my friends help out - thanks Matt!) hence the small update. Let me know if you find anything else that needs fixing. Thanks, Andy

Finally! Phew. I worked about 14 hours yesterday trying to get everything finished for release. Hopefully I didn't break anything in the process (but you never know) I've also just published a guide with a detailed breakdown about how the gameplay works. When designing the game, I wanted the gameplay to be a bit of a puzzle that the player had to figure out on their own, but after a lot of playtesting it turns out that many people find it a bit hard to figure out and that's put some people off. Rather than rebuilding the intro and doing a full tutorial, I opted for a community guide instead. It's a bit like an old school instruction book, in a way. Anyway, hope you all enjoy! Let me know if there are any bugs and I'll fix them asap. Thanks, Andy

Hi everyone, I'm finishing up a few things before release (including a substantial dialogue re-write), but this means I've had to delay the game slightly. Hopefully I can release it in the next few hours, but if not I'll release it when it's done. It shouldn't be any later than tomorrow. Thanks for your patience, Andy

Hey everyone, I've finished implementing achievements. One of them might be a little bit unfair (and feel free to tell me off for how difficult it is to achieve - I've not even achieved it yet) but the rest are either easy to achieve or a very mild challenge at best. Also, feel free to send me suggestions for other achievements I could implement after the game's released (or anything else really - happy to add more general content to the game after it's been released... within reason). It's only 5 days now until release. Agh! Andy

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for showing an interest in Your Future Self. It's my first ever game, so I'm a bit nervous (and a bit excited) about releasing it. As it stands right now there will only be a Windows version at launch on the 7th, but I'll be releasing Mac and Linux versions shortly after. Also, I'm hoping to have achievements ready for launch, but cloud saves will probably also have to come after. Saying all that, if I'm particularly productive next week then all of this will be complete by the 7th. So yeah, who knows? For some reason the price isn't visible in Steam yet, but I'm planning to release it for 3.99/$4.99/4.99, with a 15% launch discount for the first week. Anyway, thanks again. See you on the 7th! - Your Future Self Linux Content [187.32 M]
It seems you have no choice but to follow their instructions, but that doesn't mean you should believe everything they say. As you progress in your conversation with your future self, it becomes very apparent that something is amiss. Someone is lying to you. The question is: who? And why?
If you want to be free, make sure you figure out the truth.
Think carefully. Think strategically.
...and good luck.
Features
- Mind bending, yet personal story: You are stuck in a time loop with your future self, and are told you have to convince them they were wrong for a crime they committed in the near future. What was their crime? Who trapped you in this loop? And, most importantly, how can you escape?
- Gameplay mechanics as a puzzle: There is no tutorial. You need to be as convincing as possible when talking to your future self, but figuring out the mechanics of how to achieve this (and figuring out how the time loop affects gameplay) is a puzzle in itself, and an inherent part of the game's challenge.
- Unique aesthetics: The game visually harks back to the aesthetics of retro text adventures but repeatedly breaks out of genre norms to shock and surprise.
- Atmospheric soundtrack: Varied and memorable chiptune soundtrack. A moody, modern update on 8-bit soundtracks of old.
Your Future Self is a 1-2 hour long story-driven experimental text adventure with unique conversational mechanics, time loop based gameplay, and a gripping, suspenseful, emotionally charged narrative that touches on politically important topics such as climate change, refugee crises, and mental illness. It harks back to the aesthetics of text-based adventure games whilst deliberately bending the genre into something unique.
