Version 1.11.17 This patch should improve controller support for more controllers. It also features a new Cyrillic and Chinese font set for modders.
Hey everybody! Ranger May here.
Take a look at this adorable plush version of my niece by the nice folks over at Fangamer!
Isn't she just the sweetest?
Now you can get your very own Claire over at Fangamer.com along with the other great merchandise from Hawk Peak.
Happy Hiking!
So, a friend thought it would be funny if I announced A Short Hike Battle Royale for April Fools. I was like, "ha - what a funny concept" ...and then started tinkering with multiplayer code.
And now today, you can try A Short Hike 99 - a downloadable multiplayer mod.
This won't ever be an official mode for the game, but I wanted to share the results of this experiment with you all somehow. So it's a mod!
With it installed, you'll be able to see up to 99 other players who are playing it at the same time.
You can check it out using the Betas tab in the game's Steam properties.
I'm going to keep the multiplayer server up for about 2 weeks. You can read more about it here:

Maybe I'll see you on the island!
Have a good April everyone, I'm looking forward to this warm weather

This is just a little patch that fixes some issues the game has when running on the Steam Deck. Patch Notes: - Fixed an issue where keyboard glyphs would show up on the start screen even when a controller was plugged in. - Mouse movement alone no longer causes the game to switch from gamepad to keyboard controls. - An in-game license text window is now used when a controller is plugged in.
Added 4 new achievements to the game to coincide with the Xbox and PlayStation release. Note: - The plant watering achievement may only be achievable on a new save file. - Photo Friends may not be achievable if you already completed that quest in your save file. - I'll address these oversights soon!
This patch adds an official Brazilian Portuguese translation to the game! Thanks to Marcos and Wilson for handling the translation. There's also a few bug fixes sprinkled in here or there, but nothing to write home about. Take care! - Adam
The question has divided enthusiasts for decades: Is boating a form of hiking?
Well, regardless of where you stand on the subject - you can now take a detour to cruise the waters yourself in A Short Hike!
To celebrate the Switch release of the game, I'm releasing a small free content update to all current platforms!
Just drop by the local rental shop and the boat can be yours for the whole afternoon! Speed around the waters of Hawk Peak Provincial Park with style in this totally adequate 2003 aluminium motorboat!
Thanks for playing, and take care!

Hey there! Hope you're doing well and staying safe. It's been a while since the last update! Since then, A Short Hike has won the Seumas McNally Grand Prize and the Audience Award at the 2020 Independent Games Festival! It still feels surreal to me, but I wanted to thank everyone who played and shared my game. I also want to give credit to Dawn Blair, Mark Sparling, Andrew Wong, and David Czarnowski, since the game wouldn't have been the same without their contributions and support. So, the update today includes a number of optimizations, bug fixes, and a few commonly requested features. If anyone spots any new bugs in this build, please let me know!
Multilingual Support
I've added an official French and Spanish translation to the game. It should detect your computer's language settings, but if not, you can change the language from the options menu. I might add more official translations in the future. There have also been a number of fan translations created for the game. To support the modders, also I've made it much easier to access and modify the game's strings. There's more info on that here.
Autosave and Save Slots
I've added an auto save feature to the game, so if your cat unplugs your computer while your playing, you shouldn't lose any data! There's also a new (although a bit clumsy) interface for switching save slots in the options menu.
Full Patch Notes
- Official French and Spanish translations have been added.
- Fan translations can easily be added without having to mod the game.
- Auto-saving has been added. This can be disabled in the options menu.
- Three save slots are now available in the options menu.
- Various bug fixes and optimizations have been made to the engine.
- The mouse is hidden in game.
- The game detects if you fail the fishing tutorial.
- Button mashing has been made more effective when reeling in fish.
- Physics have been tweaked to make the player less slippery.
- Momentum is no longer cancelled if you flap your wings after jumping on a bouncy flower.
- Terrain rendering has been optimized.
- Fixed another round of typos.
- When speedrun mode is activated, you can hold the right bumper (or backspace on keyboard) to automatically skip text.
- The splash screen has been updated.
Hey there! A Short Hike is nominated for the Seumas McNally Grand Prize at the IGF awards! If you want, you can toss in a vote for it in the Audience Awards here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdGA6UYLdUXhBXbw19EKYZU--TAuoAnRiEmRyJAeKyepVLtLQ/viewform Although as always, there are so many great games here, any of them are worth your vote! Thanks for all the wonderful feedback and reviews so far, it's really meant so much to me. I'm so happy my little game has reached so many people. Thank you so much for playing my game! - Adam

Hey you! I'm ready to announce the launch date for A Short Hike! If you've read the title of this post, then probably you already know that it's coming out July 30th!
Since the early Humble Original release, I've been working on an update called...
A Short Hike: The Extra Mile
I had a bunch of ideas that didn't make it into the first version, so I used this opportunity to squeeze a bit more in! I've sprinkled some new characters and activities across the island- one of which is fishing! You'll be able to cast your line anywhere there's water and catch different types of fish!
Some areas of the mountain have been refined and updated. If you're the kind of player that likes to explore every nook and cranny, there will be a few new discoveries for you!
Overall, I've polished the game up a bit more and incorporated some player feedback. I've spruced up the water shader, nabbed a handful of bugs, and added a new accessibility feature to change the pixel scaling. If you already own the game through April's Humble Monthly, you should get this update for free AND a Steam key! I'm really excited to get the game out there for everyone- just hold on a little bit longer! PS: I'm also supporting Linux now
