Online play cancelled

I have been working on an online part for a very long time. I got a long way with the network code but I must admit that it will take far too much time to get it working right. I have now halted all development on the online part, however, there's still hope for Steam Remote Play Together but I am waiting for a plugin to be finished that can enable that feature.

New online play update finally live!

I've rewritten the entire network code backend which is now using relay servers. No port-forwarding is needed! Currently, there is only one server online, located in Germany. Get in touch if that doesn't do it for you! Bugs are to be expected, please report when you encounter one!

New rewritten network code

I'm still working on the game. I am rewriting the network code back-end, and that of course means online play is gonna be revived, this time with relay servers so there will be no port-forwarding needed, just as originally intended. This also means that my other projects will benefit from this new network code back-end, and yes, other projects are in their early phases and I will work on them as much as time allows when I am done updating the network code.

New build with keyboard/mouse support and Remote Play Together

The game now supports keyboard and mouse for one player, the rest still needs to use controllers. The game will now use Remote Play Together for online play instead of the previous dedicated online feature. There are simply too many types of complex firewall types to be accounted for to make a hassle-free online feature. The code is still there, and it might be implemented again if anyone would like it to be and knows how to port-forward. There are several minor bug fixes.

Major update still in development

A big update for Pixel Killers - The Showdown is still in development. Major updates will be support for keyboard and mouse, and the inclusion of a tool that will automatically set up port forwarding (this is something that most games that are online playable do, and soon this will also be possible for Pixel Killers - The Showdown). I have been working on and off on Pixel Killers - The Showdown but it will now receive full attention until this update is done.

Fixed bug when un-joining local game

Fixed an error when un-joining a local game. US server online. Working on an update that will make hosting a game much easier with no port-forwarding needed.

Servers back online

I have been working hard on finding the error making servers in-accessible after a match had been played. However, as I have no regular game-tester anymore I do my best to test the game solo.

Major problems with multiple servers

A major bug making servers in-accessible has been discovered after the US server was added to the list. I am working hard on this and have made it priority number one. I have decided to take the servers off-line until it has been fixed.

P2P Update

A new update introducing P2P connections for less lag when updating player positions is now online.

US server coming soon (August)

I already have a server in the US, it will be refactored to a game host server soon. If you would like to see an official game host somewhere else in the world, please let me know.

Major update available

A new major update is now available. The most significant change is the new visible projectiles, of a minor note there should be better support for unstable internet connections when playing online. Only 1 beta server is online at the moment for online play, feel free to host a game yourself. You can check if your ports are open with an included feature when setting up a game.

New update coming soon!

The regular servers are down at the moment, but only because a new update is coming soon, after some more testing :) I hope for less latency and more even play between low-end and high-end computers :)

Version 1.1 BETA 20 with hotfix

The new version contains an important hotfix for the Warehouse Front map where you could not pass through the large doors after they had been destroyed, along with some other minor fixes.

Version 1.1 BETA 19 is out!

(The BETA part is only referring to the online play feature). A suitcase bug causing the suitcase the be dropped in the wrong location in certain cases has been fixed. A small bug allowing players to join a match twice has also been fixed. Please let me know if you encounter anything strange. Enjoy!

The new servers are online!

For some time now, the new online servers have been online. They have been running much longer without problems than the old temporary servers did. The server app has been rewritten. I would like to get some feedback if you experience any problems, and also if you just like the game :) Have fun!

Shutting down the temporary servers

As of today, I will be shutting down the temporary servers. If you would like to play, get in touch with me and we can have a couple of matches, you can send me a message over at http://geezergames.dk/contact.html I will check for mail daily and we can arrange a match at a set time.

Official servers issues

There are some issues with the official servers, sometimes they stop responding, sometimes they just stop running. I'm very sorry about these issues and I will cancel my holiday and continue re-writing all of the Dedicated Server code. In the meantime, I will try to keep an eye on the servers and keep restarting them when necessary.

Weekend is over

Monday, the weekend is over and you can now opt-in on the public BETA for online play in Pixel Killers - The Showdown. If you find any bugs, please don't hesitate to report it! I will do my best to correct the bug(s). I hope you have fun playing! Oh, and there are two servers online in Denmark if you don't want to host your own game. If you host your own game you have to make sure to allow Pixel Killers through your firewall and/or forward your selected ports in your router.

Online open BETA coming soon

A quick update! -Online play will soon be introduced in open BETA mode, I just need a little more testing first. -The need for porting the code to C++? It turns out, one of my testers kept playing on a computer that is below minimum system requirements. For the time being, there is no need to port the entire game to C++. -A new map will be available in the open BETA, the Library map.

The update is still in progress

I am still working on the update, much has already been achieved but it has become very clear that the game needs to be ported to a faster language, the chosen language is C++ and I am in the process of learning C++. When that is done, a huge task of porting the actual code lies ahead. If you find any bugs, I would be very pleased if you would report them. If I can re-create the bug, there is a very high possibility of fixing them.

There is a major update in development with a new game mode. I will not reveal too much for now as things are not finished yet, but there will be scrolling maps, this much I can say.

This game was made out of a passion for playing with friends. The market for local multiplayer seems a little underserved on the PC platform. This game strives to help promote couch games on PC. Hopefully, there will be many more games aiming at couch gaming for the PC. Online gaming is great fun, but it ain't the same as having a sit-down with your friends and tell them to their face how much they suck at video games! However, playing online can also be fun, so now you can mix and match meaning that you can play 1, 2 or 3 people on the same computer and the rest of the players can do the same on another PC connected to the internet, combining couch and online play.

A little practical info:
This game is built for Wired Xbox 360 controllers or Wireless Xbox 360 controllers with a wireless receiver adapter for PC. Xbox One controllers ought to work just fine. PS3 and PS4 controllers can be used with Xinput drivers/wrappers. Other controllers that are Xinput compatible should also work.

MINIMAL SETUP
  • OS: Ubuntu 16
  • Processor: 2GHz
  • Graphics: Nvidia GT 640 / AMD R7 240
  • Storage: 297 MB available space
