Duo Mode - Duos are Back!

Dear Darwin Project Community, We disabled Duo mode at launch due to a number of issues surrounding the addition of classes and bugs in our Invite/Party system. We are happy to announce that duos are back and available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One! Do not expect any major changes to the mode except a few adjustments with the behavior between classes such as:

  • Meteor and Grappling Gauntlet not affecting the teammate.
  • The lockdown colour changes between teammates and opponents (blue for teammates; red for opponents).
  • Fixes around the party system which should be more consistent now.

Due to some technical issues, we are postponing Duo mode a little bit from our initial announcement. Duos will be available on PC/Steam on April 7th. We can expect a slight delay for both PS4 and Xbox One due to some technical difficulties regarding consoles but it should come in early April as well.
Since the beginning of the competitive season, two qualifiers for Steam occurred and one for both XBox One and PS4 as well. We are aware of some technical issues occurring on console and we are tackling the stability matter at the moment. We are also aware of some management hiccups and will make sure to improve those events to make them smoother for both the communities organizing them and the players participating. Last but not least, we want to send lots of love to the entire Darwin Project community. In these difficult times its important to remain kind, compassionate and generous towards one another. Many challenges and difficult times lie ahead but our team is sending everyone love and positive thoughts. We are all in this together. Stay safe. -- Scavengers Studio team

    GAME CHANGERS:

Introducing our first Battle Pass event, titled Game Changers. The first Battle Pass since the official launch of Darwin Project, now available on PS4, Xbox One and Steam. Compete in the Arena to honor its newfound Sponsors and their (quite literally) game-changing Class Gear. The Battle Pass starts on Tuesday February the 25th at 12:00PM EST and will end on Tuesday April the 21st at 11:59AM EST after 8 weeks. Complete weekly challenges and earn experience to unlock exclusive cosmetics, fan gifts and ramen! See the rewards and learn more at the Game Changers page. Purchase the Battle Pass for 950 Ramens and start earning rewards today! Complete weekly challenges to receive more experience and up to 100 rewards. If you didnt purchase the Battle Pass, dont worry, all users can still grind through the 100 tiers available, unlock free rewards, and purchase the pass at any time of its duration to receive all rewards associated with your progress.

    Game Changers Rewards:

    Full Skins:

Unlock all new exclusive High-Tech skins based on former stars of the Arena - like the undaunted Vonrobo or the enigmatic Orboros! The new skins are available while progressing and reaching higher tiers in the Battle Pass.

    Facepaints and Haircuts:

Earn exclusive facepaints and haircuts to honour the Arenas sponsors with style.

Fan Gifts, Ramen and Battle Pass XP Boost:

You can earn other rewards by reaching specific tiers among the Battle Pass such as Fan Gifts (Some even guaranteed to drop an Epic or Legendary skin!), up to 1000 Ramen, and Battle Pass XP boosts allowing you to climb faster.

    Weekly Challenges:

New challenges will unlock automatically every week, on Tuesday at 12:00PM EST, allowing you to reach higher tiers faster. All weekly challenges are the same for every player, independently if you purchased the Battle Pass or not, and will reward you with the same amount of experience. Note that weekly challenges can only be completed in public matchmaking and not in custom matches. See the rewards and learn more at the Game Changers page.

    The Class Menu:

In addition to the Battle Pass tab, you will notice a new tab available: the Class Menu. This tab will let you discover the lore of the Sponsors behind each class currently available as well as their current abilities and gear upgrades. Feel free to check it out to learn more about the classes without having to be in a lobby.

    Competitive Players:

For those who are deeper into the competitive aspect of Darwin Project, we heard you. We know that many of you are waiting patiently to see the addition of Stats Tracking as an incentive to play competitively, which is scheduled for this Summer (ICYMI: our 2020 Roadmap is available here). Why we decided to add Stats Tracking at that time: Despite the stats and leaderboards being available during Early Access, we needed to rework them on several technical and design aspects in order to make them relevant for Darwin Project. The class system, the rework of the UI, and the fact that we added a new platform on which Darwin Project is now available, meant a significant amount of dev time. With the size of the team, we could not do it simultaneously with the Battle Pass and Duos mode. This is why, in order to produce something that would reach the quality we aim for, we decided to produce the Stats Tracking for this Summer only. Dont worry, we have been working on something that will be a good incentive for competitive and dedicated players to train for. We will be sharing more details very soon. Stay tuned!

    MISCELLANEOUS CHANGES:

This update also includes some bug fixes, gameplay and balancing changes. Find the full list below:

    GAMEPLAY AND BALANCING CHANGES:

    • Decreased snowball cold damage from 20% to 10% of max cold
    • Decreased Icebolt ability cold damage from 60% to 30% of current cold
    • Decreased Icebolt ability duration from 4-6s to 3-5s
Dev comment: Death by cold turned out to be way more common that we intended so were decreasing the player capacity to inflict cold damage.
    • Decreased arrow craft time from 2s to 1.5s
    • Decreased fire craft time from 2s to 1.5s
Dev comment: Arrow and fire craft time felt too slow compared to the overall pace of the game.
    • Decreased headhunter drone death time from 15s to 10s
Dev comment: The headhunter drone happens to be destroyed often, especially during melee combat. Reducing its downtime will make the class less vulnerable.
    • Replaced turret with teleport on headhunter drone class
Dev comment: The addition of the Teleport ability will help those who choose it make better use of the maps verticality.
    • Reduced Jetwings Air dash speed by 7.5%
Dev comment: Even with the previous changes, the air dash felt too difficult to counter. Lowering its speed will make it easier to react to.
    • Increased Meteor ability speed by 15%
Dev comment: Increasing Meteor speed allows players to combine it with an axe swing more efficiently.
    • Increased Barrier ability cooldown from 20s to 30s
Dev comment: The effectiveness of the barrier combined with its low cooldown made it a bit too powerful, increasing its cooldown should make it more balanced compared to the other abilities.
    • When killed, inmates now drop a minimum of 5 wood instead of 3
Dev comment: Some combat encounters can last several minutes and 3 wood felt a bit underwhelming as a reward.
    • Decrease forbidden zone exponential cold timer from 60s to 15s
    • Increased forbidden zone exponential cold by 40%
Dev comment: After spending 15s (previously 60) in a forbidden zone, the cold is becoming more intense every second. These changes aim to prevent players from staying in forbidden zones way longer than it was intended to.
    • Added a preview system when placing turret or traps
    • Removed packs from deer loot table
    • Added 3 arrows drop in deer loot table
    • Increased glider drop rate in both deer and loot chest
    • Jetwings Death from above gear upgrade now only works if the arrow is fired while hovering instead of falling

    OTHER CHANGES:

    • Added a FOV slider (pc only)
    • Added an option to deactivate the dynamic camera (pc only)
    • Improved multiple controller force feedback
    • Improved destruction and targeting visual effects of Turret ability
    • Optimized arrow and axe visual effects
    • Improved impact visual effects on barrier and lockdown abilities
    • Improved audio and visual effects when attacking AI and Deer
    • Revised lockdown and turret colors to differentiate your own from an enemy's

    BUG FIXES:

    • Fixed Jetwings Thruster speed gear upgrade text that was not indicating a correct value
    • Fixed Jetwings Fuel efficiency gear upgrade text that was not indicating a correct value
    • Fixed some missing textures from environment assets
    • Added missing collision to the lake at the top of Yonder Canyon
    • Fixed an issue that would cause the rarity of items to not be displayed when opening a fan gift
    • Fixed multiple text that were not translated
    • Fixed an issue that caused Captain Darwin's fuel bar to turn red when using the drone or the gauntlet
    • Fixed an issue allowing players to duplicate inventory items
*Note that the bug fixes list is non exhaustive, a lot of other issues have also been fixed. Enjoy the Game Changers seasonal event, honour the sponsors and remember: SURVIVE! Thanks for your support! Scavengers Team

    LATEST FEATURES AND 2020 ROADMAP

Dear Darwin Project Community, We did it! Darwin Project left Early Access last month and it is available for free on PS4, Xbox One and Steam. It took us a bit of time to defrost the doors to the Arena but we are super excited to welcome you all there. Were happy to see so many new Inmates! We want to thank you all for your unwavering support and trust over the past two years. You have seen the numbers of our recent infographic, youve seen the different patches, youve witnessed the evolution of the game, to which you have significantly contributed, and you know it was quite the journey! Now, lets talk about why you came here: the new content.

    THE CLASS SYSTEM:

We have added to the game a brand new class system, dictated by the Gear you select at the start of a match:
    • The Jet Wings: Equip these aerodynamic fuel-injected Jet Wings and take to the skies! Master their maneuverability and acrobatic abilities to daze and amaze your opponents, while raining death from above with a flurry of arrows!
    • The Grapple Gauntlet: Do you like things up close and personal? Then close the gap in the blink of an eye and bring the fight directly to your opponents and give them the chance to meet the business end of your personalized axe, or grapple the environment for quick getaways!
    • The Headhunter Drone: Are you the type of person who likes to have a companion with you when venturing out in the wilderness? Then be sure to enter the Arena with this helpful little friend, who can gather resources for you as well as track your opponents to ensure youre never taken by surprise!

Each class has its own set of abilities. At level 1, you will only have two abilities to choose from. You will only be able to unlock the third ability when you reach level 3, and the fourth ability at level 10. Each class also has its own experience bar and needs to be leveled up separately (you will get fan gifts whenever you level up with any class). Additionally, each class has three unique gear upgrades that you will be able to boost every match in order to be stronger, faster, and to reinforce each class unique playstyle. Each gear upgrade can be crafted 3 times to maximize their effectiveness. We hope youll enjoy the new possibilities and play styles these classes offer!

    THE DARWINIUM:

Another new addition to the game: the Darwinium. To upgrade your gear and unlock your abilities while roaming in the freezing Arena, you will need to use this brand new collectible resource. Players will be able to gather this mysterious resource by destroying tanks of Darwinium dispatched all around the Arena. Youll be able to use it to unlock the abilities of your gear and upgrade them. Each Darwinium tank you find in the wild will give you 15 individual Darwinium. Electronics have been replaced with Darwinium shipments, which will give you 150 Darwinium. Although we replaced the leather resource with Darwinium, you can still find and harvest wood happy chopping!

    THE NEW CRAFTING WHEEL:

The crafting wheel has also been revamped. With new gears, new abilities, new gear upgrades, and a new resource, we needed to rework the crafting wheel. From now on, you will only be able to choose one craftable item amongst the five available: Bear Trap, Cage Trap, Pulse Mine, Tripwire and Smoke Bomb. The crafting wheel is split into two sections one for each gatherable resource in the map:
    • Upper half: Use wood to craft shields, fires, arrows and your personalized craftable item.
    • Lower half: Use Darwinium to unlock your abilities and upgrade your gear.
Note that the cost of gear upgrades will increase every time you purchase one starting from 50 to 75 and 100 to max it. These changes to the craft wheel come with a global UI revamp, including a rework of the inventory system.

    THE NEW INVENTORY SYSTEM:

The inventory system has changed a lot with this update. You dont have to loot bodies after killing another inmate anymore. Instead, all items and unused Darwinium and Wood are automatically dropped on the ground when an inmate dies. In addition to the unused resources, 35% of the Darwinium used by the inmate to upgrade their gear and abilities will automatically be dropped as well. Regarding the inventory, you can now drop off any item you picked up to empty a slot of your inventory, or pick up something you may find more valuable. All available items are now available among chests and deer loot. Each slot of your inventory allows you to stack up to 3 of the same item, max, but you are allowed to gather several stacks of each item in different inventory slots. In chests and deer, youll be able to loot: Shields, all 4 traps, health pack, speed boost, glider, coffee and smoke bomb.
We also limited the maximum amount of arrows to 8. We decided to do so to improve variety in combat, especially increase the switch between axe and bow, to put more emphasis on picking up arrow and to balance arrows versus axes. We also decide to remove a few items, upgrades and powers that were not feeling relevant with both the new class gameplay and the new inventory system such as:
    • Rigged Chest / Hook
    • Hunter Arrow / Fire Arrows / Berserk Arrows
    • Axe sharpener / Lumberjack / Scavenger Axe
    • Fur cloak / Detective Cloak / Ghost Cloak / Runner Cloak / Revenger Cloak
    • Speed Boots / Evader Boots / Hunter Boots / Ninja Boots
    • Detector

    THE NEW TUTORIAL:

To introduce the gameplay mechanics of Darwin Project to new players on all platforms, we designed a brand new tutorial explaining the basic rules of the game that were sometimes unclear for new players. With this new addition, we decided to remove our training yard which would have required a lot of rework time to fit with the new class system.

    NEW COSMETICS:

We added some new cosmetics to the game. We started by reworking the iconic Orange Skin which is now exclusively available to Early Access players and created a brand new chameleon skin which changes colors every session depending on the random color the game gives you in the lobby. Note that the weapons for the chameleon suit and the lights on the jet, gauntlet, and headhunter drone are also following the same logic. You can get your favorite colour for your chameleon outfit in the dressing room for a low ramen fee.
We also added two legendary sets: Dark Dragon and Dark Serpent skins which you now get from the Shop and Sales tab. We also added a new Starter Pack with the exclusive and legendary Dark Ninja skin in the primary shop. You can also get 1100 Ramens (Ramen Dinner) and a bunch of Fan gifts to start your adventure in the arena with style.

    MISCELLANEOUS:

We also made several other gameplay changes:
    • We removed the Show Director prestige system. It wasnt a clear system for the inmates to rate the show directors in their lobbies and was also not a good indicator of a Show Directors performance.
    • Inmates are now sprinting by default: We made this change to increase the global pace of the game and to focus the gameplay more on class and abilities than on stamina management.
    • We made some new daily challenges for you to do while playing in the Arena to get some ramen. We also removed some of them in order to fit with the current core features of the game and especially the class system.
    • We slightly changed the control schemes for both Mouse and Keyboards but also for controllers in order to fit with the new gameplay, namely the class system.

    2020 ROADMAP:

Weve prepared a roadmap to provide insight into Darwin Projects future updates.
We aim to release a Battle Pass at the end of February, complete with a progression system which will allow you to unlock exclusive rewards, such as Cosmetics, while offering unique quests to challenge your skill and wits in the Arena. We disabled Duo mode at launch due to a number of issues surrounding the addition of classes and bugs in our Invite/Party system. Our goal is to address these in time and present Duo mode again after the Battle Pass by the end of March. Do not expect any major changes to the mode for now but we are thinking about different ways to potentially improve it via future updates. Approximately one month after the first Battle Pass, by the end of March, we will add a new tile to the Arena: New Life City. We will tell you more about this tile in future communications. Simultaneously, we will improve the Twitch extension to bring an even more interactive experience to viewers on Twitch while watching Darwin Project. Following this, we will add new classes, Show Director Powers, a second Battle Pass, new additions to game modes as well as implementing new Stats Tracking via the returning Career Profile. We hope you will be as excited as we are about these incoming updates! Thanks for your support! Scavengers Team

Darwin Project - Patch Notes 1.21

Hello Inmates, We are releasing patch 1.21 with the objective of fixing several bugs and preparing for the full release of Darwin Project this winter. There are no big gameplay changes in this one but several updates for both the backend and the UI. The intention of this patch is also to test the technical stability after those changes are implemented to ensure nothing will break at launch.

    New main menu layout

The main menu gets a facelift! We reworked the navigation and the visuals on the main menu in order to support future additions to the game.

    New dressing room and shop

You can now access all of the cosmetics from the dressing room! All the available items can be bought at any time. The previous shop is replaced with a tab called Shop and Sales which will display some special offers from time to time.

    Back end technical update

We are updating our backend systems to prepare for Darwin Projects official launch this winter. This will help us to increase the backend stability. These changes also remove the current career profile, stats and leaderboards.

    Spectator experience on Twitch

Darwin Projects Twitch extension also gets a facelift! While implementing a new UI, we disabled Darwin Coins, Twitch leaderboards, Betting and Spectator Powers in order to prepare for the official Launch. Votes are the only interaction enabled...for now!

    Gameplay

Despite saying we didnt do major gameplay changes, we couldnt resist making a few tweaks:
    • Updated side roll attack: we changed the animation and the collision for side roll attacks in order to remove the whirlwind effect and get something more steady and clear. It now uses similar animations and collision than the front roll attack: a vertical top-down slice.
    • Removed Scavenger mode in custom match as it was the least used mode in the pre-set custom matches modes we released.
    • Replaced the First win of the day bonus xp with the First top 3 of the day bonus xp.
    • Arrows are now automatically picked up when walking on them

Patch Notes 1.20 - Changes for April 16

    Special Event: Easter Egg Hunt

From April 16 to April 24, you will have to be on the lookout for Easter eggs scattered around the arena in public Solo and Duo matches. This limited time event will run right after maintenance until Wednesday, April 24, at 11:59 PM UTC. You can read more information about it in our previous blog post.

Medium Setting for AIs on Practice vs AI Mode

These new Artificial Inmates are more advanced than their predecessors, with more accurate attacks and dynamic movements in combat.

    GAMEPLAY

    • Increased Arena size by 80%
Developer comment: While the initial intention of the Arena was to be an offensive power to catch opponents and force them into combat, it has turned to be a very powerful defensive power as well with no real counter play. We are still working on a solution to make it work as originally intended. In the meantime, this change in the size should make it more balanced with the other powers.
    • Inmates now cant carry more than 2 of each Consumable
Developer comment: Stacking Consumables has shown to be too valuable especially during the later parts of the matches. Capping its usage to two should decrease the impact they have on the outcome of a match.
    • Added a small delay before inmates can jump or swing their axe after a roll attack
Developer comment: This change should allow for more opportunities to counter roll attacks while preserving the satisfying movement fluidity.
    • Increased the characters size while using the Shrink by 10%
Developer comment: With patch 1.19 and the addition of directional axes, shrunk inmates have become very hard to hit with the Axe. This change should ensure more enjoyable fights against those tiny opponents.
    • Slightly increased the time window for parrying or deflecting
    • Improved the consistency of some Axe attacks
    • Inmates with equipped Armors now have floaters on their arms when the Beach Party power is activated
    • Improved deer behaviour
    • Ensured that the holographic maps in cabins no longer collide with the environment

    VISUAL

    • Polished placement of lava particles
    • Added wind to the clothes on the clotheslines in Gould City Tile
    • Refined the visual effect for Axe trail
    • Refined the visual effect of Arrow trails
    • Refined visual effect of the impact of Arrows when hitting another player
    • The colored trails when players load Arrows added in Patch 1.19 are now also applied after the Arrows are released
    • Updated the timing of the visual effect for the Arena
    • Reworked the visual effect for parrying
    • Added an animation to the embers in burned textures
    • Replaced the deer model with a new one
    • Replaced the deer death animation with a new one
    • Updated the visual effect of the Turret laser

    USER INTERFACE

    • Updated the Show Director Deck Menu
    • Made small visual adjustments to the following: Status bar and player icons Name and bar above inmates head when viewing as a Spectator or Show Director Challenges section in the Main Menu News section in the Main Menu Added a section for the Easter Egg Hunt collection (limited time only)

    OPTIMIZATION

    • Optimized the visual effect for when an Electronic is activated in the arena
    • Optimized the visual effect of the mist
    • Optimized the visual effect of the Turret
    • Optimized the visual effect when an Armor is broken

Patch Notes 1.19 - Changes for February 19

Hello inmates! As promised in our blog post earlier this year, weve focused on addressing key areas that our community have felt strongly about for some time now. Although it required a longer development time, were excited to release patch 1.19 and all its updates on Tuesday, February 19th! Thanks again to everyone who played an early version of this update during our technical playtests and submitted feedback! The patch notes are also available in our official website here.

    Axe Rework

We said wed mercilessly tackle the axe and just as promised, we put a lot more focus on improving the axes and the melee combat experience for this patch update. After months of discussions, development, and playtesting, we think that the changes and improvements we did this time addresses many concerns about this mechanic. Reworked Timing To make the axes feel more dynamic and responsive, we reduced the duration of its wind up animation, resulting in a melee combat that is more about reacting to your opponents actions rather than having to anticipate them. Moreover, the timing required to land a hit, parry an attack, or to deflect an arrow should now feel more intuitive and consistent. Directional Swings Instead of swinging horizontally all the time, your character will now attack with the axe towards the direction of your reticle. This adds a new layer of skill and enables players to fight more effectively along steep slopes or against jumping opponents. Reworked Visual Cues An issue we identified with the melee combat was the lack of visual cues that players can refer to when engaging in combat, making the experience seem more inconsistent than how it is supposed to be. To address this, we first tweaked the cameras position so inmates can see what they hit more easily and thus estimate their distance from the target better. Next, we made slight adjustments to the axe animations to better suit the changes in timing and the implementation of directional swings. Lastly, we also reworked the visual effects for the axe trails so players can better see the trajectory of the axe swings, improving feedback and visibility for both players engaged in combat. These new visual effects will also aid players in identifying which melee Perk and to which level their opponents axe is crafted to. This would be useful information to have, more particularly if your opponent crafted an Axe Sharpener. You can read more details about this on the Visuals sub-section below General Improvements.

    AFTER

New Show Director Power: Lava Floor

Lava Floor is a new Show Director Power that fills a Tile with scorching molten rock, forcing inmates to flee or move to high ground immediately. Similar to the Nuke, Show Directors can drop the Lava Floor on any Zone of their choice, or call for a vote to let Spectators decide. Once activated, it fills the floor of an entire Zone with rising lava and creates a deadly wall around the edges of the Zone, which cause immediate death to players in contact with the lava. However if you manage to find higher ground in a Zone with an activated Lava Floor Power, you will start warming up. This lava stays for 10 seconds after it reaches its maximum height, after which it will start falling back to the abyss. Show Directors can only have one Lava Floor Power in their deck and costs five Action Points to activate. To unlock it, you simply need to level up as Show Director!

A New Way to Train: Practice vs A.I. (Artificial Inmates)

Practice vs A.I. is a new game mode that players can enter to practice their survival skills before joining other inmates in the Arena. While Lancaster D.O.D. and the Training Yard (formerly called Playground) were designed to help new players learn about the basic game mechanics and equipment available, the first set of Artificial Inmates will help inmates practice combat playstyles and tactics to help them be better prepared for the real challenges out in the Arena. This game mode uses a static map and places a player in a match against 9 Artificial Inmates, which are designed to gather resources, craft Tools, and engage in combat just like a real inmate would. It is currently only available on Easy Mode, but we plan to bring more advanced AIs in the future with higher difficulty settings so even players who are more familiar with the game mechanics will find them helpful.

Play by Your Own Rules with Custom Matches

Joining and Creating Custom Matches Weve completely revamped the Private Matches feature to allow players to find and join those matches more easily through the Custom Match server list. Creating your matches also just got better as you can now customize specific settings to truly make these matches your own. Each custom match generates a four-letter password, which hosts can send to other players they would like to invite. If the host chooses to make their match visible to everyone, the match will be shown in the Custom Match server list where other players can find it and join by clicking on the match of their choice. Otherwise, other players will only be able to join a match that is set to private through the password.
We prepared some pre-set matches for you to start with which you will see when you create a custom match, but youre more than free to set up one on your own by pressing My Custom Match. Were working on bringing more customizable settings in the future, so you can look forward to making these matches even more interesting! Join a Custom Duos Match with your Friend Players can now join custom Duos match with another inmate of their choice! Simply invite them to join your party by clicking the Invite a Friend button, then join or create a custom Duos match. Only the Party Leader will be able to choose a role, and they must select an Inmate role so they can be paired with their friend once the match starts.

    25+ New Cosmetic Items

Taking on new challenges such as the new Lava Floor Show Director Power demands new outfits. Over 25 new items will be obtainable from Fan Gifts and will also be purchasable with Ramen from the Shop.

    Gameplay

    • Updated the stamina system Reduced sprint stamina cost from 18/s to 6/s Reduced jump stamina cost from 33 to 25 Reduced roll stamina cost from 40 to 30 Axe attack nows cost 10 stamina Aiming with the bow now costs 6 stamina per second
Developer comment: Because stamina management outside of combat seemed unnecessary, we put more focus on combat to reward better stamina management.
    • Increased the speed of roll attacks
    • Removed the brief stop that would occur after roll attacks
Developer comment: These changes allow the roll attack to match the new timing of the axe swings. On top of that, allowing players to continue moving after a roll attack not only makes the transition between combat movements smoother, but also decreases the chances of getting punished (especially by arrows) if the roll attack was missed.
    • Resized the female characters height to be the same size as the males
Developer comment: Although the female character has always had the same hitbox as the male, this characters height was initially shorter. This often lead to confusion regarding hitboxes. This change aims to make the combat more consistent regardless of gender.
    • Improved character hitbox to better suit the players movements

    Optimization

    • Servers tickrate has been increased from 32 to 59 updates per seconds
Developer comment: This allows for smoother and more accurate interactions between players, more particularly in terms of movement and combat.
    • Multiple improvements due to engine updates
    • Optimized character model and animations
    • Optimized visual effects
    • Optimized day and night cycle
    • Optimized level of detail in the Mt. Borlo Deer Workshop Tile
    • Optimized physics computation of players that are not in sight
Developer comment: We know optimization is highly important for the community, and weve been hard at work to strive towards the smoothest experience possible. With this patch, all players should notice an improvement in framerate, particularly Xbox players as we continue on our road to reach a stable 60 frames-per-second. While we do still anticipate some small dips here and there, we believe this patch is a step in the right direction for achieving this goal for our Xbox community.

    Visuals

    • Added colored trails to Axe swings to indicate the type of melee Perk that is being used. The visual effects for these trails will increase as the Perk levels up: White when no Perk has been crafted Red for Axe Sharpener Green for Lumberjack Yellow for Scavenger Axe
    • Added colored trails when players load Arrows to indicate the type of Arrow that is being used: Red for Berserk Arrow Blue for Basic Arrow Green for Hunter Arrow Orange for Fire Arrow
    • Added a flashing light to indicate when an arrow is ready to be fired
    • Updated the visual effects for the Fire Arrow, including the lingering burning damage fire
    • Updated the visual effects of Blood Moon and Beach Party
    • Removed the Christmas lights from trees in all Tiles

    User Interface

    • Updated the Play menu and the flow to start a match

    • Added a clearer On Air notification while being followed by the Show Director
    • Updated the bottom left part of the interface while playing a Custom Match with a disabled Player Minimap setting as an inmate
    • Polished in-game notifications text

    Other

    • Renamed Playground to Training Yard
    • Renamed Daily Rehab Program to Daily Challenges
    • Reduced the volume of the sounds found in the Show Director Soundboard
    • Increased the volume of inmates' footsteps
    • Increased the duration of Invincibility and Speed Up to 30 seconds (For Spectator Powers only)

    • Fixed an issue that would cause the axe to scale up during rolling attack and could cause hitbox inconsistencies
    • Fixed a crash that would sometimes happen when joining a lobby [Xbox only]
    • Fixed an issue in which players could get stuck in burnt tree trunks in the Mt. Borlo Deer Workshop Tile
    • Fixed an issue which caused some lava lighting to not work properly in the Mt. Borlo Deer Workshop Tile
    • Fixed an issue where player would get stuck over lava around the middle island of the Mt. Borlo Workshop Tile
    • Fixed an issue where a few bows had incorrect materials
    • Fixed an issue where some trees would have an incorrect trunk texture applied to them
    • Fixed an issue where various snowman Hats would have no visible neck when used with the male character
    • Fixed an issue where players who equipped the Ponytail Hair would have incorrect eyebrow colors
    • Fixed an issue where some Helmet sizes were incorrect
    • Fixed an issue in the Gould City Tile where some tree leaves would intersect through house roofs
    • Fixed an issue where the Kiwi Climber Hat would have an incorrect icon
    • Fixed an issue which could prevent some lava splashes from appearing
    • Fixed an issue where the Armor crafting sound duration would not match its actual crafting time
    • Fixed an issue where trees would keep moving if a player died in it
    • Fixed an issue where the headshot hitbox would remain the same size when using the Shrink Electronic Power

    An Early 2019 Development Update

Hello inmates, We hope you had a wonderful holiday season! Were back at the studio in full force and intend on making 2019 a huge year for Darwin Project! Were kicking it off by putting together an enormous patch that will require a bit more time to release, but that will take a lot of the feedback youve been sending us and channel it into improvements for our biggest Technical Playtest yet. Weve said that we wont launch Darwin Project out of Early Access until all its systems meet our quality standards for fun factor, balancing, and polish. And when we talked about the road to release, we identified several improvements we want to make before going into full launch. While weve had to tweak that roadmap from July 2018, lots of the important additions we highlighted did make it into the game: The Tile Mapping System, three brand new Tiles, Duo Mode stats and leaderboards, the Playground (Training Room), Daily Rehab Program (Quest System), and tons of cosmetics and optimization. Beyond what was planned in the roadmap, weve also surprised players with our first-ever Battle Pass: The Death and Life of Roger D. Glanton, groundbreaking spectator interaction features on Twitch, controller support on Steam, bears, the Show Director Soundboard, new Private Match options, and more. As we sat down to nail down what else is coming to Darwin Project in the short-term, we found ourselves wanting to address key areas that we and the Darwin Project community feel strongly about, but that would require more work than what our current monthly development cycles allow for. Chief among those is getting melee combat to a spot where its as clear and comfortable as it can be. Were currently experimenting with various timing tweaks, developing clear and dedicated animations to reintroduce the upward and downward Axe swings, prototyping new visual effects on the trajectory to better help players identify exactly where Axe swings are going, and more. Well be tackling the Axe, as well as other improvements that require a longer development time, mercilessly throughout January and most of February. This means that Darwin Project will not receive a content update this month. It also means that the next patch is going to be absolutely massive, and that your feedback on the work-in-progress version will be more important than ever! Please stay tuned for the exact dates of the Technical Playtest(s) on Steam. If youve been answering our surveys saying youre dissatisfied with the Axe, wed love for you to let us know whether it feels better for you in a Technical Playtest! Well still be holding a devstream on Tuesday, January 15 from 11 AM EST to 12 PM EST. Tune in on our official Twitch channel as usual as we look back at the greatest moments in 2018, answer your questions, and do a bit of Darwin trivia with some members of the team! We know youre excited to find out what else is coming for Darwin Project and when. Well have more details to share as soon as we get a preliminary feel for some of the ideas were considering. These ideas wouldnt have been possible without your help, so do keep sending in your feedback! - The Scavengers Team

Patch Notes 1.18 - Changes for December 18

Hello inmates! Were targeting Tuesday, December 18 to release patch 1.18 on Steam. Read on to see what the latest update contains! Again, thanks to all the Steam players who previewed these changes in our Technical Playtest and sent in feedback! Dont hesitate to keep sharing your thoughts about any of the improvements below on our official channels. Scavengers Studio will be out for the holidays from December 22 to January 1, so please expect delayed replies. See you in the arena, and happy holidays!

New Tile: Mt. Borlo Deer Workshop

Volcanic, rocky, and scorched all over, Mt. Borlo is the perfect fiery backdrop for fierce showdowns. Its glowing lava falls and towering peaks are inviting, but make no mistake: Mt. Borlo Deer Workshop is one of the most treacherous Tiles yet. Lots of uneven terrain and pools of lava mean that inmates will have to pay more attention to their surroundings and carefully evaluate the trajectories of Power Leaps and BoomShroom bounces. On one of the tallest cliffs stands the Deer Workshop. A large building that inmates can fight in, the Deer Workshop produces what many consider a key resource of the Darwin Project arena. The goods are transported using metal wagons on elevated rails, with a number of industrial lights and pipelines supporting the mysteriously self-sustained production. Some of you might recognize one of the islands in Mt. Borlo Deer Workshop from the pre-Tile Mapping System map!

New Show Director Power: Give Leather

Some of you may have seen this coming, but The leather makes it better! When activated, the player targeted by this Power will receive two Leathers. Give Leather costs one Action Point to use and Show Directors can have a maximum of three copies of it in their Decks. Just like other Powers that require a target, the Show Director can let any stream viewers vote for the player who will receive the Leather. To unlock up to three copies of Give Leather for your Show Director Deck, continue leveling up as the Show Director.

New Show Director Power: Open Zone

Open Zone allows Show Directors to reopen a zone that was previously closed. It costs five Action Points to activate and Show Directors can only have one copy in their Decks. Just like other Powers that require a target, the Show Director can let any stream viewers vote for the zone that will be reopened. Note that Open Zone can be used on a zone that is becoming forbidden (as soon as the countdown begins), but not on a zone in which sudden death is active. To unlock Open Zone for your Show Director Deck, continue leveling up as the Show Director.

    60+ New Cosmetic Items

Whether youre facing the cold head-on or looking to cozy up in festive wear this holiday season, patch 1.18 has some outfits for you. Over 60 new items will be obtainable from Fan Gifts and will also be purchasable with Ramen from the Shop. Heres the overview:
Note: The Santa Hat will not be obtainable through Fan Gifts or purchasable in the Shop, but will instead be given as a free reward to all players who log in between December 21, 2018 at midnight UTC and December 31, 2018 at midnight UTC. The cosmetics list has been updated to reflect this. Hike up Mt. Borlo in style with these mountain climber outfits:

    Spectator Interaction Improvements

New Feature: Events Since weve introduced Betting to spectator interactions on Twitch, viewers have been able to watch a variety of streams to build up a wealth of Darwin Dollars (still a work-in-progress currency) and use them to wreak havoc in Private Matches that have Spectator Powers enabled. The new Event feature allows the streamer to place all viewers on a level playing field and see which one manages to make the best use all available spectator interactions and finish with the thickest wallet at the end of a stream. To create an Event, streamers on Twitch with the official Darwin Project Spectator Experience Extension enabled will need to click the new button called Create Event directly on their stream, then create a Private Match. When the streamer has an active event, stream viewers will receive a second wallet containing 1000 Darwin Dollars, and any Bets and Power Bids made during the event will use this dedicated wallet. All stream viewers of the match, even if watching a different streamer than the one who created the event, will have the dedicated wallet made available. Streamers can end an event at any time by going to their stream again and clicking Finish. If the streamer does not end the event, it will end automatically after 24 hours. Note that streamers cannot begin or end an event while already in a match or in a lobby. At the end of the event, three leaderboards will appear with the top 10 spectators in each: Current amount of Darwin Dollars, total gain, and largest gain in one shot. The leaderboards can also be viewed at any time by clicking the crown icon next to the event wallet. Viewers will still earn Darwin Dollars for their regular wallet on top of the dedicated wallet when watching a stream in which there is an active event. Betting Update First off: well be resetting all spectator wallets and leaderboards. Dont be alarmed! As a first step to balance Darwin Dollars, weve set a maximum amount that spectators can bet at once: 5,000 Darwin Dollars in Private Matches and 100,000 Darwin Dollars in Public Matches. Weve also updated the formula that determines the payout multiplier. Voting Update The Electronic Show Director Power has been added to the list of Powers that can be voted on by the audience. When the Show Director chooses to let the audience vote, spectators will be able to click on the zone where they want to see an Electronic resource be activated.

    Gameplay

    • Added three new Private Match options (the following can now be toggled on or off by the Private Match host): - Player Minimap Hidden (off by default): Removes the minimap in the bottom left corner of the screen and replaces it with a compass at the top of the screen Developer comment: Finding cabins with Holomaps becomes much more important when this option is turned on, especially when zones begin closing! - Auto Zones/Electronics (on by default): Zones will close and Electronics will activate without the Show Directors help - Names on Holomaps (off by default): Names will appear on Holomaps (maps present inside some cabins)
    • The Axe swing will now be more closely tied to the players latency Developer comment: We adjusted the Axes lag compensation such that it works similarly to Arrows, making it no longer possible for players to take a hit from an enemy with high latency without seeing it coming. This also results in a tighter synchronization of swing animation and hitbox.
    • Slightly lowered the Axe hitbox for the spin attack and strafe jump attack Developer comment: We noticed that players would often swing their Axe in mid-air expecting to connect with the enemys head, only to miss by a few inches.
    • Increased Armor crafting time from 3 seconds to 5 seconds Developer comment: This balance change is intended to add a higher level of risk to crafting Armor in the middle of a fight.
    • The Hook will no longer grapple players frozen by Ice Bolt Developer comment: This improvement will make the Ice Bolt behavior consistent with other Tools in the game, while also preventing situations where a frozen player could be Hooked toward hazardous ground with no opportunity to react.

    Optimization

    • Slightly optimized fog effects
    • Slightly optimized smoke effects
    • Slightly optimized cloud effects

    Visuals

    • Added Christmas lights to trees in all Tiles [for a limited time only]
    • Updated lava texture and behavior so that it can flow in a specific direction

    Animation

    • Replaced the death animation by four all-new animations
    • Added a front hit reaction
    • Updated the Arrow nocking animation

    Other

    • Reworked the menu flow upon defeat - When defeated, players will automatically be turned into spectator drones (not to be confused with support drones in the case where your ally is still alive in Duo Mode). Pressing Esc with mouse and keyboard or Menu with a controller will bring up the match stats and allow players to go back to the main menu or play again. Developer comment: This change will allow players to more easily view the different ways other people play and potentially pick up a few tips! - Removed the Play Again button while in a party to prevent the party leader from interrupting their ally when reviewing match stats - When viewing stats at the end of a match, players will automatically be queued for matchmaking in the same game mode after 40 seconds
    • Reworked the pause menu - Daily Rehab Program progression and some Career stats will now be visible in the pause menu - Players will now be able to give the Show Director Prestige during a match through the pause menu
    • Added an option for players to set a distance between the edge of their TV or monitor and the game UI in Video Options
    • The cursor will now always appear at the center of the screen when Show Director opens the Power Bar
    • Added a second input for the roll, bound to the middle mouse button by default Developer comments: Dont forget to rebind any inputs you currently have on the middle mouse button if youd like to use the roll there instead!
    • When defeated, players match stats will now be compared to their average instead of their all-time best for that game mode

    UI

    • When clicking to see the details of a set in the Shop, players will now get a 3D preview as opposed to seeing only a 2D image, giving a much better idea of how the items will look when worn in the arena or in the Dressing Room. Note that this feature will be updated to include individual items in the future.
    • Added a loading icon on a players avatar when they are in the process of loading into the lobby
    • Moved Scavenger Mode into Private Match options
    • Made small visual adjustments to: - The icons above stray Arrows - The tips that appear when approaching a lootable item - In-game news - The Connect to Twitch or Mixer button location - The Connect to Twitch or Mixer menu - The Daily Rehab Program - The ally information in Duo Mode - The latest news pop-up - The victory screen - Names above player heads - The Dressing Room

    • Fixed an issue where the roll attack would sometimes not play the Axe swing animation
    • Fixed an issue where the Tripwire was not destroyed like other Traps if placed underneath a player frozen by Ice Bolt

    • Fixed an issue where Teleporting on land would sometimes make the player skip the hard landing animation the next time they jump from high ground
    • Fixed an issue where drawing the Bow after rolling would sometimes play the Bow drawing sound twice
    • Fixed an issue where trying to roll while performing another action would sometimes still consume stamina
    • Fixed an issue where the deer would disappear when killed in the Playground
    • Fixed an issue where deer in the Playground could not be Hooked
    • Fixed an issue where players would burn when deflecting a Fire Arrow
    • Fixed an issue where Electronic resources would be harvestable in the Playground before they were activated
    • Fixed an issue where it was possible to report dummy inmates in the Playground
    • Fixed an issue where dummy inmates caught by Tripwire in the Playground would be temporarily released from the rope tying them to the post
    • Fixed an issue where the latency information displayed when choosing a region would no longer be color-coded
    • Fixed an issue where players who died with their HUD hidden would cause some inconsistencies the next time Hide HUD was used
    • Fixed an issue where the Cloak would fly wildly when hitting a BoomShroom with the male character
    • Fixed an issue where the Axe attack sound was missing when playing as the female character
    • Fixed an issue where pressing B to close the pause menu would activate an Electronic Power bound to B when using a controller

Patch Notes 1.17 - Changes for November 20

Hello inmates, As promised in our latest Behind the Scenes video, were taking a good look at balance in Darwin Project as part of efforts to polish the overall experience. Youll find lots of gameplay adjustments in this patch that are meant to address the discrepancies with how frequently certain equipment is used, with developer comments for each. Patch 1.17 will become available on Tuesday, November 20. Expect maintenance to begin at our usual time of 11 AM EST. Thanks again to everyone who played an early version of this content update during our technical playtest and submitted feedback! Weve improved this patch with your help, but dont hesitate to continue sending us your thoughts about these changes through any of our official channels. As a reminder, the Halloween atmosphere will disappear from Darwin Project with patch 1.17. We hope you had fun shooting pumpkins in the lobby and harvesting jack-o-lanterns! Important note: Due to some improvements that patch 1.17 makes to various options, any players remapped inputs will be reset to default. We apologize for the inconvenience! See you in the arena!

3 New Ways to Make Private Matches More Spectacular and Interactive

As you know, our objective with Darwin Project is to further connect players and spectators, which means navigating the dichotomy between player interest and viewer entertainment. Weve already seen that giving spectators and Show Director the power to influence matches in significant ways was at odds with the experience that many players expectand in response to that feedback, weve made specific changes such as not permitting the Show Director to activate a targeted Power during a fight. But in Private Matches, where players deliberately join with friends and agree to play by the hosts rules, wheres the harm in a little chaos? Weve added new options to spice up Private Matches and re-empower Show Directors and spectatorsto a potential point of extreme unfairness, yes, but also of extreme entertainment and interactivity with viewers. In fact, our vision is to progressively build the Private Match into a small build-your-custom-show toolkit. Note that all these are optional and can be disabled by the Private Match host. Show Director Unleashed and Spectator Power checkboxes have been added to the options bar when choosing between the inmate or Show Director role, while Scavenger Mode can be freely turned on or off in the lobby. Show Director Unleashed Show Directors ignore all the rules of normal play and have access to unprecedented privileges. Enabling Show Director Unleashed in a Private Match allows the Show Director to:
    • Have immediate access to all Show Director Powers (Powers will be unequipped from non-unleashed Directors in other modes)
    • Have access to the Invincibility Power that was previously removed
    • Use equipped Show Director Powers as many times as they want
    • Use Show Director Powers on players in combat
    • Use the Megaphone every 5 seconds (compared to 90 second cooldown in normal play)
    • Use the Soundboard as often as they want (compared to 30 second cooldown in normal play)
    • Gain Action Points at 10 times the normal speed
    • Close zones with no restrictions
Spectator Powers UPDATE 11/20: Spectator Powers are now expected later in the week. Please stay tuned to our official channels! With Spectator Powers, spectators on Twitch have the opportunity bid for Powers usually reserved for Show Directors using Darwin Dollars (the same currency earned through Spectator Betting) during the lobby. The spectator who wins a bid for a Show Director Power will see it added to the streams interface and will be able to launch it at any point during the match theyre spectatingwithout having to boot up Darwin Project. At the beginning of each match, three Powers among the following will be randomly selected and made available for viewers to bid on:
    • Nuke
    • Close Zone
    • Manhunt
    • Speed Up
    • Warm Up
    • Invincibility
    • Heal (300)
Broadcasters on Twitch, are you ready for your spectators to wreak havoc in your Private Matches? Just make sure the host leaves Spectator Powers turned on in the Private Match options and your streams will be more interactive than ever. Note that the official Spectator Experience Twitch Extension is needed to experience the mayhem of Spectator Powers. Scavenger Mode In this new mode, added as a prototype, players begin with an empty Crafting Wheel and must rely on finding Blueprints for new craftable items (Arrows, Tools, and Perks) in Loot Chests and deer. These Blueprints will be added to players Crafting Wheels until they fill up. In addition, harvesting an Electronic will grant players an Electronic Power thats ready to use as opposed to a resource. Because players wont know which equipment theyll have access to before they start searching, Scavenger Mode puts a heavier emphasis on their ability to adapt as well as their proficiency with all available Arrows, Tools, and Electronic Powersnot just those they usually equip. Weve decided to add an optional version of this mode in Private Matches for players who like to be kept on their toes or just want to freshen up their Darwin Project experience. Were interested to hear whether Scavenger Mode is a hit among you and your friends in Private Matches. Please send us your feedback on any of our official channels!

    Playground

The Playground is a new training room type game mode that players can enter to practice their survival skills safely. While Lancaster the Darwin Orientation Drone provides tasks to help inmates with the main mechanics, we wanted to provide new players with a way to interact with resources and experiment with their equipment without having to worry about being attacked by another player. The Playground is a small map divided into areas meant to help players get acquainted with specific mechanics. In the Trap Museum, players can see what Traps look like when laid by another player (and even get caught inside them to understand their effects). The Archery Range is perfect to practice aiming and shooting with the Bow, and dummy inmates are also present to take any Axe swings, Arrows, and Electronic Powers coming their way. Resources (trees, leather armchairs, and Electronics) as well as Loot Chests respawn after being harvested in the Playground. More areas, marked under construction, will be added at a later date. In the Playground, players can easily make changes to their Crafting Wheel by going back into the chalet (the main structure). They can also clear their inventory at any time by pressing V on a keyboard or A+B on a controller. In this first iteration, players can only enter the Playground as an inmate.

    Show Director Soundboard

The Show Director Soundboard allows the Show Director to play various sound effects, either for all inmates to hear or only those in the vicinity. The Soundboard can be used by pressing R or Y during a match and lobby, and has a cooldown of 30 seconds. This new feature is meant to allow the Show Director to make matches more show-like and highlight the coolest moments of the match with increased emotional and narrative impact. In this first iteration, these 12 sounds are available in the Soundboard:
    • What
    • Nice shot
    • Oh Yeah
    • Hot Damn
    • Sweet
    • Awkward
    • Lol
    • Boo
    • Disappointed
    • Laughs
    • Love in the air
    • Gasp

Spectator Betting Now Enabled in Public Matches

Betting is a work-in-progress improvement for spectator interactions that allows viewers on Twitch to place bets on which inmate or team they believe will be the last one standing. Following positive feedback from a previous update in which we enabled spectator betting in Private Matches, we decided to integrate this feature permanently to Public Matches. The crowd favorite vote that normally appears at the beginning of a match will now be fully replaced by the betting interface in both Private and Public Matches as long as at least one player is streaming on Twitch with the Spectator Experience extension enabled (and, in the case of Private Matches, as long as the Spectator Betting option is turned on). Note that the economy will be balanced over the next few months, so please dont grow too attached to your wallet of Darwin Dollars as it will be reset!

    80+ New Cosmetic Items

Patch 1.17 contains the largest amount of new cosmetics items weve added at a time since Aprils customization-focused update! Over 80 new items will be obtainable from Fan Gifts and will also be purchasable with Ramen from the Shop. Heres the overview:
Heres a closer look at some of the styles youll be able to complete, but we encourage inmates to mix and match collected items to create unique outfits (and dont forget to share them in the #fashion-project channel of the official Discord server!)

    Gameplay

    • Removed the Axe and Teleport combination (aka Tele-Axe) where players could swing the Axe and immediately Teleport to damage anyone in the Teleport trajectory Developer comments: This combination was not only impossible to counter due to how fast it could be executed, but it was also very difficult for new players to understand what happened when they were damaged by it. The Teleport became an automatic choice for a lot of players, and its prevalence in matches had a detrimental effect on equipment variety.
    • The Glider will now accelerate progressively instead of starting at full speed, reaching maximum speed after 3 seconds Developer comments: The Gliders immediate burst of speed proved very powerful in almost all situations, especially as a way to quickly dodge Arrows or flee from combat, which made many players pick it over other available Tools. This change aims to limit its impact mid-fight without affecting its value when it comes to map traversal.
    • Removed the Show Director light Developer comments: After an in-depth review of player feedback about how Show Directors and inmates interact, we determined that the Director drones light did little to improve either the Show Director or inmates experience.
    • Increased the Arenas radius by 15% Developer comments: This change is intended to balance the way inmates use the Arena. Prior to patch 1.17, the Arena was overwhelmingly used defensively, and this adjustment should make the Arena more viable offensively.
    • Increased Hook cast time by 0.15 seconds Developer comments: This change will make the Hook slightly more difficult to land, and combined with its new animation, will give targeted players more of a chance to deflect or dodge it.
    • The Turret will no longer detect (or shoot at) players who are hidden behind obstacles Developer comments: When the Turret was able to detect enemies outside of its field of view, it essentially acted as a detection device on top of putting constant pressure on its target.
    • Increased movement speed/lvl for Evader and Hunter Boots from 3%/lvl to 4%/lvl
    • Decreased Hunter Boots movement speed/lvl when tracking an opponent from 4%/lvl to 3%/lvl
    • Hunter Boots will now also grant 3%/lvl more stamina when tracking an opponent
    • Evader Boots will now also grant 4%/lvl more stamina when being tracked Developer comments: These changes aim to reduce the gap between movement speed conferred by the different types of Boots in order to make the Hunter and Evader Boots more viable compared to the Speed Boots and encourage players to try out the specific play style associated with different Boots.
    • Damage done while under the effect of Shrink is now reduced by 50 instead of 100 Developer comments: We felt that Shrinks damage reduction was too significant, and this change should make it a more viable offensive option.
    • The Lumberjack Axe will no longer increase crafting speed or Clue harvesting speed Developer comments: The multiple effects of the Lumberjack Axe made it a Perk that served too many purposes. These changes will refocus it on its core purpose: resource harvesting.
    • The Scavenger Axe will now also increase crafting speed by 10%/lvl Developer comments: This addition simply aims to make the Scavenger Axe more viable compare to other Axe Perks.
    • Inmates who equip Fire, Berserk, or Hunter Arrows will now start with two of them instead of zero (the starting amount for regular Arrows remains unchanged) Developer comments: Starting with no Arrows gave players a sometimes frustrating disadvantage in early encounters against opponents equipped with regular Arrows because they didnt have as many chances to retaliate.
    • Removed the Detector
    • The Radar will now also detect resources, Loot Chests, and deer
    • Reduced the Radars duration from 15 seconds to 10 seconds Developer comments: The Detector was vastly underused as an Electronic Power that could only detect resources, so weve combined it with the Radar to make this new Power more valuable in the arena. Note that the Radar will not detect Traps.
    • Adjusted the amount of items that inmates can receive from deer and Loot Chests during Beach Party
    • Deflected Arrows can now be picked up before they touch the ground
    • Players will now be able to look just as high in the standard view as they can while aiming
    • Added a buffer to the Smoke Bomb use to prevent players from accidentally consuming more of them than they intended

    Optimization

    • Optimized cosmetic item icons in the Dressing Room

    Visuals

    • Inmates will now wear swimsuits when the Show Director activates Beach Party Developer comments: The implied nudity wasnt ideal for family friendly players (especially content creators), and it didnt add much to the game beyond an initial chucklewhich we think these flower-patterned swimsuits will also achieve.
    • Added a set of reticle customization options under Gameplay Options: Reticle Type, Reticle Color, Reticle Thickness, Reticle Length, Reticle Opacity, Center Gap, Outline Opacity, Dot Size, and Dot Opacity
    • The pre-1.16 reticle, now called Classic, will return as the default
    • Reworked the status bar and player icons

    Animation

    • Added animations for the Cloak
    • Improved the animation for the male character moving backward
    • Improved the character skeleton to eliminate small inconsistencies such as the Axe leaving the characters hand while crouching and discrepancies with Bow sizes
    • Improved the male characters mid-air rotation animation to be consistent with the female characters
    • Improved the Hook animation Developer comments: The Hook was a bit too hard to read, so we updated its animation to one that will allow opponents to see it coming more easily and improve counter-playability.

    Audio

    • Removed music during game startup

    Other

    • Simplified role selection in the main menu by grouping role and game mode together
    • Changed the input to start a Private Match in Duo Mode with a controller to A+B
    • Renamed option to turn off for blood and Beach Party visual effect to simply Remove Blood now that the Beach Party implied nudity has been removed
    • Replaced the Detector with Shrink in the Hunter Playstyle
    • Moved the Shoot on Release option from Gameplay Options to Mouse and Keyboard and Controller Options
    • Changed default Shoot on Release inputs to left click for aim/shoot and right click for Axe Attack

    • The Arena wall visual will now disappear twice as fast to better synchronize with the collisions disappearance
    • Changed the Show Director Megaphone input to D-pad right on a controller
    • Allowed players to save two sets of inputs for Axe Attack and Aim in the Mouse and Keyboard Options (to account for the Shoot on Release Bow configuration being on or off)

    • Fixed an issue where the match auto-start feature (whose timer is now hidden) would sometimes not wait for players loading into the lobby and instead add them to the match as spectator drones
    • Fixed an issue where it was possible to begin to fire some projectiles before the previous animation was finished (applies only to the Snowball, Hook, Ice Bolt, and Arrow)

    • Fixed an issue where it was not possible to continuously attack with the Axe by holding down the attack button when using the Shoot on Release Bow configuration

    • Fixed an issue where the Axe would appear in the characters hand as soon as an Arrow was fired when Shoot on Release was enabled
    • Fixed an issue where rebinding the cancel aim button when using Shoot on Release would not change the hint visual
    • Fixed an issue where winning a match with Shoot on Release enabled would cause the character to draw their Bow repeatedly during the victory animation
    • Fixed an issue where the Electronic harvesting progress bar would freeze when multiple players were attempting to harvest the same Electronic
    • Fixed an issue where the Shrink effect indicator would be displayed red
    • Fixed an issue in Duo Mode where ally and opponent name colors would be inverted in the damage notifications when an ally would successfully trap an opponent
    • Fixed an issue where spectator drones in Duo Mode would receive damage notifications about players other than their ally
    • Fixed an issue where the EU server would sometimes become permanently highlighted when navigating the Choose Region menu with a controller

    New Tile: Gould City

The birthplace of Roger D. Glanton, Gould City is a Victorian-era New England Tile with an autumnal atmosphere. In Gould City, inmates can explore a large cathedral and fight on the streets among Victorian houses. Behind the cathedral is a spooky graveyard covered in fog. On the periphery of the city are farm settlements with cornfields, scarecrows, and farmhouses. Twin bridges lay across the frozen river and connect to an old part of town. For a spookier experience, explore Gould City at night with only the city lights to guide you! While Gould City is thematically related to the Battle Pass, this new Tile is a permanent addition to Darwin Project, so inmates will still be able to enjoy it after November 13. We will add it to the bank of possible Tiles in the same way we did with On-The-Rocks Shipping Co, meaning it will be available to everyone immediately after the patch.

    Improved Sudden Death

The sudden death radius will now become smaller and move around, challenging inmates to stay within its boundaries as they carry out the final fight of the match. We also changed the visual effects of the sudden death walls to improve visibility. Previously, in the larger sudden death area inmates would play more cautiously, often trying to remain hidden and extending the match in a way that wasnt very exciting for spectators. As the final showdown in a match, we wanted to make sudden death more spectacular. The solution we decided on makes for more exciting fights where navigation, Tools and Powers all become very important, and each decision can quickly lead to victory or defeat. Were really proud of the result!

New Way to Shoot the Bow: Shoot on Release

Some feedback we regularly receive from new players is that they expect their Arrows to fire from their Bow when they release the shoot button. Weve made this new control scheme default for Darwin Project newcomers. While current players may choose to stick with what we now call the classic Bow control scheme, weve added the option to switch to the shoot-on-release controls inside Gameplay Options. Once Shoot on Button Release is enabled, two new options will become available in the Gameplay Options. The first is Enable Axe Attack on Cancel Aim, which makes the button to cancel a nocked Arrow (left mouse button for keyboard and mouse by default) also swing the Axe when pressed. The second is Show Cancel Hint, which is on by default but allows inmates to hide the Cancel hint when the Bow is drawn.

Halloween fun! [From October 16 to November 20 only]

    • Placed some jack-o-lanterns throughout the map Developer comments: Something good might happen to inmates who harvest them
    • Replaced lobby drones with pumpkins (please dont destroy these; theyre worth 2999 Darwin Dollars a pop)
    • Changed the main menu music for a Halloween version of the Darwin Project theme
    • Changed the main menu background to Gould City

    Optimization

    • Significantly optimized various UI, audio, and environmental elements Developer comments: These might not sound like things that will improve performance, but were pretty confident that all players will see a better framerate consistency with patch 1.16. As mentioned in the latest Behind the Scenes video, were keeping optimization at the top of our priority list so that everyone can enjoy a smooth experience in the arena as we continue adding content and improving existing features.

    Gameplay

    • Show Directors will now gain Actions Points 20% faster
    • Leveling up as a Show Director will now grant a Fan Gift Developer comments: This will allow Show Directors to participate in the in-game economy and wear earned cosmetics when they play as an inmate.
    • Added a double-tap roll option (with sensitivity slider) Developer comments: In response to player feedback, weve added a new way to use the roll. Enabling the double-tap in Gameplay Options will allow inmates to quickly press the movement key twice to execute a roll. Note that this will not replace the default roll input.
    • Improved navigation in the On-The-Rocks Shipping Co. Tile by reducing the size of some containers to make them reachable by jumping
    • Modified resource spread in the On-The-Rocks Shipping Co. Tile to be denser towards the center
    • Moved some pieces of broken wooden objects that were obstructing navigation in some cabins interiors.
    • Made Boomshrooms easier to hit from above
    • The stamina bar will now be displayed at the center of the screen at all times except when full Developer comments: This change is intended to help players better manage their stamina

    Visuals

    • Added detail to the Glider
    • In the Gameplay Options, turning off blood will now also turn off the Beach Party visual effect where inmates appear naked Developer comments: This is a temporary measure while we work on replacing Beach Partys implied nudity with swimsuits following player feedback.
    • Added a timer in the lobby to indicate when the match will automatically start
    • Reworked the Electronic activation visual effect
    • Northern lights are back in the sky during nighttime Developer comments: Well, this is embarrassing. It seems the northern lights mysteriously disappeared sometime during our Alpha or Beta tests without us realizing. We even optimized them in the last patch! Anyway, theyre back now.
    • Improved visual effect for antenna on top of cabins with Holomaps
    • Reduced Arrow trail visual effect duration
    • Updated the crosshair
    • Added bears Developer comments: We were inspired by the valorous community movement #addbearstodarwin

    Other

    • Reworked the Play button so it is now possible to start a match with a single click
    • Split mouse sensitivity into two sliders (mouse sensitivity and aim mouse sensitivity) in Mouse and Keyboard Options
    • Added an option to change matchmaking region in Gameplay Options (still available from the main menu as well)
    • Renamed Melee Attack to Axe Attack in Mouse and Keyboard as well as Controller Options
    • Renamed Camo to Invisibility
    • When entering a password to join a Private Match, the code will be displayed as asterisks
    • Accepting a friend invite while in a lobby will now bring the invited player back to the main menu
    • Prevented players from switching profiles when searching for a match

    • Fixed an issue where the female character would not play the shooting animation when shooting an Arrow
    • Fixed an issue where Show Director Average Prestige would be negatively impacted when playing Private Matches
    • Fixed some issues where some resources would be under the ground or inside other objects, rendering them inaccessible
    • Fixed a Portal inside a cave in Summer Project Ruins Tile that was facing the wrong direction
    • Fixed an issue in the Shop where a 5-piece set of cosmetics in which all pieces were already owned would display 0 Ramen instead of Already Owned
    • Fixed an issue where a match would not end if the last kill was made by a defeated player (such as with previously laid Traps or Turrets)
    • Fixed an issue where Official Rating would sometimes not correctly update when playing a Solo match right after playing a Duo match
    • Fixed an issue where the UI would not correctly adjust in the Daily Rehab Program when switching from controller to keyboard and mouse
    • Fixed an issue where it was possible to navigate in the lobby or in a match with the controller before selecting an option when the report menu was opened
    • Fixed an issue where it was possible to navigate in the lobby while the Playstyles pop-up was displayed
    • Fixed an issue where the Y input to show/hide password would not display when hosting a Private Match
    • Fixed an issue where no party was created when two players would both invite each other and accept
    • Fixed an issue where a player could remain frozen by an Ice Bolt when the player who launched the Ice Bolt died
    • Fixed an issue where the Canyon Tile reintroduced in patch 1.15 would not appear as often as the other Tiles
    • Fixed a collision issue with the crouch while rolling

Discover The Death and Life of Roger D. Glanton with the First Darwin Project Battle Pass

Hello inmates, We have lots to share with you today about the direction Darwin Project is headed in and some exciting new content coming in the October patch just a few days away. Please watch Behind the Scenes 4: An Update on What's Next by clicking the image below.
The Death and Life of Roger D. Glanton is the first-ever Darwin Project Battle Pass, and we want to talk a bit about why we chose to add this content and what it entails. Ever since the Easter Egg Hunt in spring, a lot of you said you miss in-game events and are interested in new opportunities to collect unique cosmetic items. We reflected for a long time about how to make future events more meaningful, because while players had a fun time collecting Easter eggs in the arena, we felt we could provide a deeper experience. We decided that the next limited-time event would be a great opportunity to expand the lore behind Darwin Project. Our writer (the same who gave us the wonderful Mabel Beeswell) came up with a fantastic, spooky tale about how the Darwin Project began. The Death and Life of Roger D. Glanton is the story of the man who started it all: the Darwin Project founder himself. Playing this new Halloween-themed content will involve progressing through 50 Tiers to unlock a variety of rewards, and some of those rewards are age-old documents that youll be able to piece together to learn about the bone-chilling fate of Roger D. Glanton. We just cant wait for you to discover the story! Combined with the art and music that our team has worked very hard to produce, The Death and Life of Roger D. Glanton is probably our most refreshing new content so far. The Death and Life of Roger D. Glanton will run from Tuesday, October 16 to Tuesday, November 13 on Steam.
Why the Battle Pass format? Its no secret that many players today are accustomed to the Battle Pass progression and reward systems (but dont worry if you arent; well have detailed information in-game as well as on our official website). We also like the idea of players knowing exactly what theyll unlock and whenespecially when theres a lot to discover. The Battle Pass format allows us to organize all the content in a way that allows players to keep track of earned and upcoming rewards, with no luck needed to obtain specific items. Purchasing the Battle Pass is not required to enjoy The Death and Life of Roger D. Glanton, but doing so will allow inmates to unlock more rewards and have access to Premium Weekly Challenges to help reach higher Tiers. The Battle Pass will become available in the Shop for a limited time starting on October 16 for 1000 Ramen. We estimate the total value of all items that can be unlocked with the Battle Pass to be over 16,500 Ramen, so its great valuenot to mention that inmates will be able to recoup a large part of the Ramen cost by playing. Lets talk about the rewards! On top of the lore we already mentioned, progressing in The Death and Life of Roger D. Glanton will unlock a ton of exclusive cosmetic items related to Glantons story. You can expect more extremely cool styles for your clothes and weapons. There are over 65 rewards to earn in total! Among these is a brand new way to customize your character: Face Details. Additionally, a lot of you have been asking for new Cloaks and Haircutsyoull be able to add more of those to your collection as well!
To advance Tiers and obtain the rewards inside, you will have to earn experience points (not to be confused with Fans). Playing Darwin Project normallyas an inmate or Show Directorwill grant XP toward The Death and Life of Roger D. Glanton, as will completing the Daily Rehab Program (only while the Battle Pass is active). Completing Weekly Challenges will also allow inmates to reach higher Tiers. These Challenges will be revealed at the start of each of the four weeks that the Battle Pass is active, and will require more attention to your playstyle and to your environment than the tasks assigned to you in the Daily Rehab Program. Note that Challenges can only be completed by playing as an inmate. Reaching the final Tier through play after purchasing the Battle Pass will take an estimated 25 to 50 hours. At Tier 50, youll gain access to the Ultimate Challenges section of the Battle Pass where a final set of Challenges await. For The Death and Life of Roger D. Glanton, they are called Inferno Challenges and will reward you with a special 7-piece item set variant upon completion. Unlike the Weekly Challenges, youll still be able to complete the Ultimate Challengesif youve unlocked themonce the Battle Pass ends. At any point between October 16 and November 13, you can choose to spend Ramen to purchase one or many Tiers. Purchasing Tiers is not required to reach the end, but will help players who get started later or who just want to speed things up. Any experience points in your current Tier will carry over to the next one when purchased with Ramen. Thats all the key information about the Battle Pass! Were sure you still have lots of questions, so please keep an eye out for more details as well as a complete FAQ in the coming days.
As you might have guessed, the new Tile that were also adding in the October patch will be thematically related to the Battle Pass content. We will add it to the bank of possible Tiles in the same way we did with On-The-Rocks Shipping Co, meaning it will be available to everyone immediately after the patch. Stay tuned to our official channels for a first glance! To reiterate an important point we brought up in the Behind the Scenes video: In the coming months, were keeping optimization at the top of our priority list so that all of you can enjoy a smoother experience in the arena. Weve been reading your survey responses closely and want to ensure that you are satisfied with how Darwin Project performs on your PC. We also want to note that creating our Battle Pass content has not interfered with this focus, and we will be doing everything we can to optimize Darwin Project even as we continue adding more content and improving existing features. There wont be a new Battle Pass available as soon as this one ends, so dont feel pressured to save up your Ramen just yet. In fact, because The Death and Life of Roger D. Glanton will be the first limited-time event of this scope that we deliver, your feedback will be incredibly valuable for us to help determine whether we create more in the future! Once you get a chance to play, please let us know what you think on any of our official channels. And as usual, see you in the arena!

Patch Notes 1.15 - Changes for September 18

Hello inmates, Weve got another gigantic set of patch notes for our September content update! Patch 1.15 is coming to Steam Tuesday, September 18. Expect maintenance to begin at 11:00 AM EDT / 3:00 PM UTC as usual. Again, thanks to all the Steam players who previewed these changes in our technical playtests and sent in feedback! Dont hesitate to keep sharing your thoughts about any of this content on our official channels. See you in the arena!

    New Combat Move: Roll

The roll is a new stamina-consuming move that inmates can use in combat as a fast dodge option or to quickly get into close range with an enemy. Weve added this first new basic move to deepen gameplay following feedback from players asking for additional ways to achieve more advantageous positioning in combatsomething that often determines the outcome of an encounter in Darwin Project. Players can roll with Caps Lock on a keyboard or by pressing down on the right stick with a controller. With the roll replacing the crouch input on the controllers right stick, weve remapped the crouch to the left stick by default and added an option to swap it with the sprint in Controller Options. The roll can be used in a variety of different situations depending on the result players are after: swinging the Axe during a roll will combine into a roll attack, trading some stamina for the chance to surprise an opponent, and performing a roll might sometimes be the only way to avoid an incoming projectile spotted at the last second. We hope inmates enjoy their newfound acrobatic ability and use it to make Darwin Project matches even more spectacular to watch. The roll is the first of major combat enhancements coming to Darwin Project as our Fight Strike Team continues to work on improving fight mechanics.

New Show Director Power: Beach Party

Beach Party is a new Show Director Power that transforms the arena with a tropical atmosphere that warms up all inmates, helps them detect resources (including deer and Loot Chests) in the same way as the Detector, and doubles the amount of items received when inmates harvest all resources except Electronics. It costs 5 action points to activate. Beach Party is sure to be a hit among inmates on the verge of freezing or low on Wood or Leather. But because this Power affects all inmates still alive, players using this opportunity to chop down as many trees as they can must still be on the lookout for well-placed traps or freshly stocked up enemies flying in on a Glider. We had a blast putting together the visual and audio effects for Beach Party and hope Show Directors will have just as much fun surprising inmates by changing the climate of the arena! Want to add Beach Party to your Show Director Deck? Just keep leveling as the Show Director to unlock it!

    New Electronic Power: Shrink

Shrink is a new Electronic Power that inmates can craft and use on themselves after looting an Electronic resource. It can be equipped in the Crafting Wheel immediately once patch 1.15 releases. Activating the new Shrink Electronic Power will turn inmates very small for 15 seconds, making them jump higher, leave no footprints, be more difficult to see and hit, and safely walk over Traps without activating them. However, shrunk inmates will deal 100 less Axe and Arrow damage and be knocked back farther when hit. The Shrink Electronic Power will prove particularly useful for inmates who enjoy sneaking up on their opponents to catch them off-guard, and it can also come in handy in a fight where the only way out is to suddenly become much more difficult to aim at. Use the Shrink to lay Traps and loot defeated players unseen, or whip out the worlds tiniest Glider in a pinch!

    New Spectator Interaction Feature: Betting

[/strike] UPDATE: 9/18: Weve decided to postpone this update to spectator interactions in order to further test it with your help. Stay tuned to our official channels for more information! Weve updated the Darwin Project Twitch Extension with a new feature for spectators: Betting When watching a livestream on a Twitch channel with the Spectator Interaction Extension enabled, spectators will be able to become even further involved by placing bets on which inmate or team they believe will be the last one standing. Spectators can place bets even if there is no Show Director in the match. This betting interface will replace the Crowd Favorite vote as the main way spectators can select their champion in each Darwin Project match (votes launched by the Show Director remain unchanged). To bet, spectators use a currency were currently calling Darwin Dollars. Spectators will earn 50 Darwin Dollars per minute they watch the stream, or 100 per minute if they are a channel follower. [Known issue: Refreshing the stream prevent Darwin Dollars from accumulating normally] Spectators will be prompted to choose the amount of Darwin Dollars they want to bet on their preferred inmate, with the payout multiplier based on each players performance. The multiplier will update every 10 seconds depending on how spectators place their bets. Note that betting will be unavailable in Private Matches for the time being, and that spectators will not earn Darwin Dollars by watching the stream when the players are in the lobby. Spectators will be able to access three leaderboards at any time while watching the stream: Current amount of Darwin Dollars, total gain, and largest gain in one shot (shows top 10 of each). These leaderboards will display the top 10 spectators in each. This betting feature is just the beginning! We plan to keep improving our spectator interaction feature to further connect Darwin Project broadcasters and their viewers.

Highway Bandit Cosmetics and Change to Boots & Armor

Safety Psycho (male character) and Sentient Hardware Store (female character) You can purchase these items individually or as 5-piece sets that include the Helmet, Shirt, Armor, Pants, and Boots. The 5-piece sets will be featured during the week of Tuesday, September 18 in the Weekly section of the Item Shop. All Safety Psycho and Sentient Hardware items, including the Nonstop Axe (not pictured) and Screw You Bow, can also be found in Fan Gifts starting September 18.
Plated Denim (male character) and Copper Computer (female character) You can purchase these items individually or as 5-piece sets that include the Helmet, Shirt, Armor, Pants, and Boots. The 5-piece sets will be featured during the week of Tuesday, September 25 in the Weekly section of the Item Shop. All Plated Denim and Copper Computer items, including the Nuqkarit Axe (not pictured) and Bronze Drill Bow, can also be found in Fan Gifts starting September 18.
Foreign Exchange Student (male character) and Recycling Czar (female character) You can purchase these items individually or as 5-piece sets that include the Helmet, Shirt, Armor, Pants, and Boots. The 5-piece sets will be featured during the week of Tuesday, September 25 in the Weekly section of the Item Shop. All Foreign Exchange Student and Recycling Czar items, including the Ice Scream Axe and Pink Pipe Bow (not pictured), can also be found in Fan Gifts starting September 18. Boots and Armors to be Equippable by Male and Female Characters Patch 1.15 marks a change to the way Boots and Armors can be worn in the Dressing Room. Starting with the Highway Bandit items above, Boots and Armors can be equipped by both the male character and female character. Boots and Armors released after patch 1.15 will also fit both characters in the Dressing Room. Note that this change will not apply to existing Boots and Armors.

    Report System Improvements

Players who violate the Code of Conduct will be more quickly warned, with higher level sanctions continuing to be applied if the violations persist As part of our ongoing efforts to minimize the amount of hateful language that Darwin Project players are exposed to, warnings for abusive chat will now be delivered more frequently. Players who receive a warning for abusive chat are strongly advised to pay closer attention to their use of voice chat; failure to improve this behaviour may result in a voice chat restriction, temporary suspension, or permanent suspension. Note that this also applies to other Code of Conduct violations such as teaming. When action is taken against a player who has violated the Code of Conduct, a thank you message will appear for players who have reported the offender A big part of our improvements to the report system is letting our players know that their reports actively help keep Darwin Project matches fun, safe, and positive. Well now display a message to players who have helped us take action against an inmate violating the Code of Conduct the next time they go to the main menu. We hope this small gesture helps demonstrate our appreciation for your help! It will now be possible to report teammates for match sabotage when playing Duos Weve heard feedback from players who had unpleasant experiences in Duo Mode when playing with a teammate who deliberately attempted to throw the match. With patch 1.15, it will be possible to report an ally who is inactive, intentionally disruptive, or otherwise engaging in sabotage during a Duo match. Please review the updated Code of Conduct.

    Gameplay

    • Improved the Axes visual consistency Developer comments: As part of our continued efforts to make Axe combat feel better, we tweaked the Axe collisions and trajectory so they are more visually consistent with the character animation.
    • Temporarily undid the change from patch 1.13 that made it easier for inmates to hit enemies above or below them with the Axe by looking up or down Developer comments: Because we dont have specific animations in place for these directional Axe swings, this change from patch 1.13 proved difficult to understand and led to fighting inmates believing some missed Axe swings should have connected. Weve undone this change until corresponding animations are ready. The drawback is that fighting on uneven terrain will become more difficult.
    • Show Directors will no longer be able to activate a targeted Power on a player engaged in a fight Developer comments: We understand that it felt frustrating for inmates to have the Show Director interfere in a fight with such influential targeted Powers as Heal or Speed Boost. By limiting the use of those Powers to inmates not in combat, Show Directors will still be able to impact the overall match while letting the outcome of individual fights be determined only by the inmates skills.
    • Removed jump height and distance bonus when stamina is full Developer comments: This change from patch 1.14 was meant to address how the jump made player trajectories so predictable that the first advice any new player would receive is dont jump. However, the jump height and distance bonus made it a bit too difficult to calculate and time Axe swings, resulting in fights with many swings that dont connect. Note that we did not make changes to the air control and gravity.
    • Reintroduced the Canyon Tile Developer comments: The Canyon Tile (North-West zone prior to patch 1.13) was incompatible with some configurations generated by the Tile Mapping system, so it was removed in patch 1.13, but our level designers have tweaked it and itll now be back in the bank of possible Tiles that can appear in the map!
    • Added more BoomShrooms in the On-The-Rocks Shipping Co. Tile
    • Being hit by a Turret will no longer interrupt players drawing their Bow
    • Added a slight aim assist for targeting enemy Turrets with the Bow when playing with a controller (can be turned off in the Controller Options) Developer comments: Weve received feedback from players using a controller about the trouble that Turrets have been consistently giving them. The Turret alone was never designed be an insurmountable threat, but it was significantly more difficult to take down when playing with a controller as opposed to keyboard and mouse.
    • Players can now Hook an ally with the Hook
    • Increased the delay between two Hook throws by 0.2 seconds Developer comments: This change is meant to make it less likely that players will successfully land another Hook on an enemy just being released from one.
    • Holomaps will no longer display player names [strike](does not apply to Private Matches)[/strike]UPDATE: Holomaps now will not display player names in Private Matches either
    • Damage notifications will now only display damage dealt to you or by you, and to or by an ally in Duo Mode Developer comments: By limiting the information players receive passively about their opponents, we hope to increase the importance of tracking mechanics.
    • In Duo Mode, quitting when an ally is still alive will not result in any Fans for that match, and the quitting players final match rank will be determined by their current position, with no chance to be improved by their allys performance. Developer comments: This change is intended to further encourage strong teamwork between allies in Duo Mode, even when one has been defeated.
    • When playing as the Show Director, middle-clicking on the mouse or pressing down on the right stick of the controller will toggle follow camera to the nearest player (to easily switch points of view between two players in combat)
    • Pressing the Show Director Megaphone button again while using it will turn it off

    Optimization

    • Optimized lighting day cycle, storm, particles, ambient lights, northern lights, birds, footprints, Fire and smoke effects, Electronic activation effects, and Arrow trail effects Developer comments: In response to player feedback, we are now undertaking continuous optimization efforts to improve framerate in each content update. With patch 1.15, we focused on the most performance-heavy elements of the game.

    Visuals

    • Reworked the equipment menu layout
    • Updated various buttons (work-in-progress)
    • Added a small axe icon to player avatars when in combat that is visible only to the Show Director and spectators
    • Players will now see their Boots, Armor, and Cloak in the lobby (they will still not be visible in the arena until related Perks are crafted)
    • Added a visual icon to cosmetic items in the Shop, Dressing Room, and Fan Gift menus to indicate whether they were obtained as part of a special event
    • Added an exclamation mark to indicate new Shop items

    Animation

    • Added new animations for inmates hit by an Axe from the side, from the back, and from a spin attack (currently only available for the male character, but we plan to add them to the female character as well)
    • Added a new animation when propelled as a result of attacking a BoomShroom (currently only available for the male character, but we plan to add it to the female character as well)

    Audio

    • Added a sound effect when players are out of stamina
    • Reduced Loot Chest sound range by 30%
    • Added a sound effect when purchasing an item from the Shop

    Shop

    • Reworked the Shop layout
    • The Shop will now offer 4 weekly items and 4 daily items at a time, and is now split into tabs

Hunter sets return! Didnt get a chance to pick up the shop-exclusive hunter-themed sets released in May? Keep an eye on the Item Shop in the coming weeks as the Dead Survivalist, Cheerful Forest Murderer, King Cold Shoulder, Icebreaker Prime, Islander Slayer, and Samoan Smasher styles will return alongside the featured Highway Bandit styles!

    Leaderboards

    • Leaderboard resets will occur on the first day of each month starting October 1st (information about Top 100 Showdown scheduling changes to come soon)
    • Starting October 1st 2018, players Official Rating after a reset will be based on their Rating from the previous season Developer comments: This change aims to improve matchmaking by reducing the probability for high ranked players to be matched with less experienced players.

    Other

    • Improved matchmaking in Duo Mode
    • Added a message when trying to purchase an item with insufficient Ramen
    • Updated the default controller sensitivity Developer comments: This change should help new players to get acclimated with the basic movement controls.
    • Changed controller input to purchase an item in the Shop from A to X
    • In the lobby, the Mute All button will now also mute players who join after pressing it
    • Reporting a player for abusive chat will no longer mute them by default in future matches Developer comments: We expect that improvements to the report system will ensure players who make inappropriate use of voice chat have those privileges restricted.

    • Fixed an issue with the way match rankings are tracked for the first player to be eliminated in a Duo team [Patch 1.14 known issue]
    • Fixed an issue where the female character would sometimes not react to collisions in the same way as the male character
    • Fixed some collision issues at the junction of few Tiles
    • Fixed a visual issue in the Director section of the Career menu where Prestige would appear to increase each time the menu was accessed
    • Removed the Report button in the bottom right corner of the pause menu (players can still be reported in the pause menu using the yellow icon next to their names)
    • Fixed an issue where swinging the Axe in mid-air would sometimes cancel the next swings animation
    • Removed the Play Again button from the end-of-game screen for players in a party but not party leader
    • Fixed an issue where the Rigged Chest sound was slightly different than the Loot Chests
    • Fixed an issue where the square avatars would change to circles in death notification
    • Fixed an issue where sound waves would sometimes appear red instead of blue when an ally harvests an Electronic
    • Fixed an issue where the Show Director could sometimes use their Powers twice
    • Fixed an issue where most animations would not play when caught in a Bear Trap
    • Fixed an issue where selecting a report category in the report menu would display the definition before the choice was confirmed
    • Fixed an issue where it was possible to reset keyboard and mouse settings with a controller in the Options menu
    • Fixed an issue where the UI would not correctly adjust in the career menu when switching from controller to keyboard and mouse
    • Fixed an issue where the UI would not correctly adjust when switching from controller to keyboard and mouse as a spectator or Show Director drone
    • Fixed an issue where numbers on player portraits would appear as inmate when switching from keyboard and mouse to controller in the lobby
    • Fixed an issue where pressing B on a controller would not work in the Quit Game confirmation message
    • Fixed an issue where it was possible to navigate the main menu with a controller before selecting Continue in the Latest News pop-up
    • Fixed an issue where it was not possible to report more than one player per match
    • Fixed an issue where it was not possible to report the Show Director using a controller
    • Fixed an issue where the voice chat icon was not set to muted when entering spectator drone mode

It's called "Darwin Project" and it challenges 10 participants to survive the cold and fight to the death in a treacherous arena.

    KEY FEATURES:
    - SPECTATOR EXPERIENCE:
Through the Spectator Experience Extension, viewers can impact each Darwin Project match in several groundbreaking ways:
    • Cast votes to choose the target of a Power activated by the Show Director
    • Place bets on which inmate or team they think will emerge victorious
    • Bid for Powers normally reserved for Show Directors & unleash them in a Private Match

    - SHOW DIRECTOR:
The Show Director is the living bridge between the players and spectators. He/She is the host and master who controls the arena with nuclear bombs, zone closures, gravity storms, and the power of their voice. This could be a real tool of self discovery; the start of your new career as a charming but deadly game show host.

    - DYNAMIC, TACTICAL GAMEPLAY WITH SURVIVAL ELEMENTS:

Gather resources, craft tools, upgrade your gear, track your enemies, engage in both melee and ranged combat, and be the last inmate left alive.
