What's been happening since the Steam Games Festival? Online play is coming!

Hey everyone,

Just a quick update on a few things as I don't post much on Steam News, I mostly use Twitter.

The Steam Games Festival went quite well for TRF, almost doubling the amount of wishlists the game had. And generating several thousand views to the store page.

The game had been due to release at the end of the Games Festival, at the end of June. However I ran into some issues with the 8 player controller setup for local play. Unfortunately, in order to comply with Steam regulations, I've had to lower the amount of supported local players from 8 to 4. This was a real shame to me, as I wanted to make sure the game could be played by as many people as possible in as many scenarios as possible.

To that end, I decided to delay the release of the game to September, and use the time that gave me to add online multiplayer to TRF.

I've spent the past 4 weeks working exclusively on adding online/LAN multiplayer to the game, if you follow me on my Twitter, you'll have seen frequent updates, including GIFs, to show how the network multiplayer is progressing.

Right now, I have 3/9 game modes working in network play (Time Trial currently isn't planned to support network play). Those game modes are Race, Drift & Zen. The current focus is the Elimination game mode, which is similar to how classic Micro Machines plays.

So that's basically what I've been up to the past month, polishing parts of the game off, and mostly adding the ability to play over a network.

Thanks for reading,
Oliver
